GET AND CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS BEFORE LEAVING THIS PLACE! This is pending resolution, but as of now I am shocked by my experience. Yesterday Nov 11th, two friends and I went here for brunch. They ordered breakfast while I ordered a latte (online menu says $8) with vanilla, lavender and oat milk. During our visit, the staff brought out 2 additional plates of food (avocado toast and chicken & waffles) which we quickly said that we did NOT order. They offered them as "samples for you to try". At the end, I paid for my latte by handing my card to the owner (Tammy?) who stepped away with it and came back with the card, but no receipt. I didn't make a deal of it because hey, it was just a latte. Later, I was shocked to see a $22.76 charge pending for my latte. One of my friends said she noticed that she too was overcharged by around $5. I called twice and was told (by Hope?) that the only latte charge she found was a latte with a shot of Irish Cream, which I did not order and sounds nothing like "vanilla, lavender, and oat milk". Hope said the owner would call me the next day but she did not. I did I notice a $5.44 credit pending, but without an explanation, I still don't understand why my latte was $17.32. Are they for real? Or did she charge me for the food that we did NOT order? Candlelight used to be one of my favorite brunch spots on the Strip. All of that quickly changed when they moved into a smaller building that used to house NOLA Brunch and Beignets. When I walked in I've noticed lots of changes were made and I wasn't feeling them. Their menu is no longer written on a chalkboard. You have to have a smartphone and scan their menu with the QR code. Oh and cash is no longer accepted. Electric payment only. Change isn't always a good thing because it's not going to be for the better, just the opposite. If it ain't broke then don't fix it and leave well enough alone. Candlelight has failed me for the first and last time. read more

After seeing Candlelight Pour House on numerous social media sites, I wanted to visit! My parents and I stopped in on a Saturday morning around 10:45AM. We were told it would be a 30 minute wait and we could wait in the outdoor seating area. I didn't mind the wait but was hoping to order mimosas for while we waited BUT they don't allow that. Once we were finally seated, it was a table in direct sun at the kitchen entrance so we asked to move tables. They said it wasn't as easy as just moving us because we had already been assigned to our table through the ordering system. The use toast tan so you don't have a server and order everything on your own through an app (drinks, refills, meals, etc). I personally didn't like the system at all. The servers that delivered the food and drinks were very friendly but I can imagine the system isn't easy on them either. It took almost an hour for our food to come out and we had to ask that our order be checked on. Once requested, they brought it out (I think it had been sitting there and they forgot to bring it out). We ordered the following: - Orange mimosa: Tasted like straight juice - Apricot mimosa: Tasted like straight juice - Bloody Mary: Very good. Interesting that they use a wine based vodka for this - BLT: No condiments on the sandwich, very dry and not very tasty. Served with chips that tasted like they had been left out for days. - Turkey Club: Also very dry and the bacon was over cooked. Served with the same chips as above. - Candlelight Breakfast: The flavors were good but the food itself was cold. I would've usually request the issue be fixed but I was so hungry from the long wait. First time back since the remodel and I do miss the indoor bar, coffee and couches but this new layout is what Texas is about. You enjoy your food and the weather. We went for brunch and I tried their cinnamon toast crunch drink which was fantastic, then there was avocado toast with eggs that didn't disappoint! I had the Benedict barbocoa and was so good! The back patio is very inviting and the resident kitties is a sweet addition to the decor. Don't worry they don't bother anyone, they actually kinda greet you at the entrance behind the bannisters. Great experience! First time visit on a spring day. Seated quickly, coffee and food came out with minimal wait. We ate outside, lots of tables, many with umbrellas and little fans to keep the bugs off our food. Staff checked on us regularly, more so than we've experienced in a while. This restaurant overcharged me and refused to do anything about it. I ordered a coffee flight for $16.95 and placed my order myself using a QR code at the table -- there was no table service involved. I still decided to leave a $1.00 tip, and my emailed receipt showed a total of $19.34 after tax. When the charge posted to my bank account, I noticed I had actually been charged $21.73. I called and spoke with the manager, who told me he couldn't do anything. When I pointed out that they had charged me more than the amount shown on my receipt, he replied, "Well, I can't refund you, that would just be giving you money," and admitted the owner wouldn't help either. He claimed the difference was due to an added service charge, which is illegal since there was no notice of any service charge on the menu or anywhere in the restaurant -- and it was added after I paid and received my receipt. This is deceptive and unethical business practice. The prices are already extremely high for what you get, and the customer service was dismissive and unhelpful. I would not recommend this place to anyone and had to report the charge to my bank as fraud. read more

Great brunch location away from the riverwalk crowds. This cute house located about 5 mins from downtown is a neighborhood home converted to a great coffee house that serves great food and drinks. Breakfast / brunch options are all great options from various benedict dishes to standard bacon and eggs. They provide various mimosa options form the standard orange, pineable, grapefruit, cranberry and so forth. Plenty of inside, patio and back patio seating. In fact quite big. Food was fantastic; ordering system a nightmare. Having just moved to San Antonio we made plans to go to Callums ATA Boy for brunch. Looooong line so we came next door to Candlelight. To begin with we didn't know what to do to get service. Apparently they are completely digital with no instructions on the table how to use. The whole process was disjointed and convoluted. Further I was treating my friends and we could figure out how to put it all on one ticket. We had to ask wait staff over and over how to use the system. We were about to abandon the process as we had been there 20 minutes just trying to figure out how to order. Additionally because each one of us had to put in a separate order our food came out at wildly disparate times with one of use almost finishing their dish before the rest of us got our food. NUTS!!!! To their credit, the food was delicious-best home fries ever. They need to DUMP their digital system or train their staff to follow up with guests on whether orders have been placed, confirm orders and then submit orders. Despite the great food, will not be going back so long as they have the digital system. read more

Love this place!! Great ambiance, service was wonderful and oh the food! I had the smoked salmon scramble and it was scrumptious! The salmon was cooked to perfection, the eggs were scrambled and seasoned just the way I like and the capers... just delectable on the whole. The sangria was yummy and my latte was perfect. Nice to have options for milk substitutes as well, for those of us who are lactose unfriendly lol Ordering on an app as a group can be a little tricky, in terms of getting your food at the same time, but since I was STARVING, not having to wait on my girls' chicken and waffles to be done was actually a win today lol And it was worth the wait for them (and me) - the fried chicken was SO good. I went here a time or two over 12 years ago, but not a fan of the area due to parking situation. Today I wanted something different so I tried brunch. They requested I clean my hands inside the door with anti-bac and the host checked our temperature. My omelette was too salty. Not a fan of the side potato the way it is prepared, sort of like pot roast potato, I like roasted or hash style The pancake was so good though. I am over all pleased with my experience. I tried it out for the first time with my family. I like how we were treated at the door, by the bartenders and by the servers and waiters. Food was good and on point. The atmosphere was nice. My only issue was with how cold it was inside, like if the heater was broken or something. Even the staff member agreed it was cold and would ask to put up the heat but i never noticed it on. I've never been in a restaurant where my hands and feet were cold and i kept my beanie and jacket on the whole time. Pretty cool little spot. This was my first time here and I would say this is a great spot to meet up with friends, coworkers or even have events. The outside area is a good size for all gatherings. They serve beers, wine, hot teas & even desserts. Staff was accommodating and friendly. I recently had the pleasure of visiting Candlelight Pourhouse for brunch. I arrived at an odd time, around 2pm, but the staff was still very welcoming and accommodating. I sat inside due to the heat, but I later learned that they have a beautiful backyard patio with trees, umbrellas, fans, koi ponds, and shade. The service was excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive, and they seemed to have a great camaraderie amongst themselves. They were also very accommodating when my phone died and I couldn't access the paperless menu. I tried the seasonal latte, an iced blackberry and lavender latte. It is very easy to overpower things with lavender, but this latte was perfectly balanced with the sweetness from the blackberry and nice little hints of the lavender. I also tried one of their seasonal martinis, which was well-balanced and not overly sweet. They also have an awesome beer menu that I will need to try later. For my meal, I had the chicken and waffles. The waffle and syrup had great flavor, and the chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I had to take a to-go box because there was so much food! The owner was also there and helped wait on my table. She was very nice and knowledgeable about the area. She has an amazing business, and I will definitely be back with family and friends. read more

This place is a true treasure of weirdness and oddities coupled with fantastic food. I love that there's a huge outdoor patio to enjoy those few days in Texas that are just perfect. There's plenty of space for large groups or intimate corners for romances. The only things that keep this from being a 5 is the parking, long lines, and unkept garden in back. It truly could be an oasis, but I don't think anyone has tidied up the back in a long time. The concrete is buckling and uneven to the point that it is dangerous. The weeds and fences are unkept and ugly, but.... The Food is amazing!!! Bottomless self serve coffee, mimosas, eggs Benedict, chicken and waffles.... I've never had anything here that wasn't fantastic. And just the icing on the cake was that on this particular day, we arrived at 11:45 on a Saturday, got the best parking spoof immediately outside the front door and were only the second people in line!!!! So, my usual concerns regarding crowding, lines, and hustle were put to rest this day. If they would just put a little time and about $1000 into the backyard, this would be 5 stars. read more

I came here because it was on a list of top wine bars in San Antonio. Upon arrival the woman at the coffee counter asked me if I had a reservation. I did not , so she gave me a complimentary cup of coffee and I sat on the front patio and waited until they called me. This place is 100% QR based. No in-house payment accepted. You scan the QR code and a link will be sent to your phone so you can order ; You then enter all your credit card info and a tab will be started for you. Simple , easy , convenient. I am just not into traditional breakfast . i.e. eggs, waffles etc. I got the champagne flight which was actually prosecco and probably some Cava thrown in for good measure. Not for the elderly, their menu is online only, I did not have a QR code reader, therefore I was not able to see them in you or pay the way they wanted me to. I asked for the eggs Benedict traditional, it did not have the Canadian bacon, but it had a ham alternative, the hollandaise sauce I asked for, was a house hollandaise sauce that I was not able to stomach. This staff is very friendly however their iced tea is horrible, and when I refused to drink it, I still had to pay for it, due to the chef is the only person that can remove an item from the bill. And my wait staff told me that the chef was too busy to remove that item at this time. I guess I will finish my bottle that is not bottomless, and just be happy for the experience, of the new location, new rules, and senior citizen disconnection! read more

Was honestly very let down by Candlelight Coffeehouse. I came in for the weekend brunch and I got the veggie omelette which came with mushrooms. When I asked what kind of mushrooms none of the staff seemed to know that mushrooms came in different varieties and couldn't answer the question. I should have just left the mushrooms out because they tasted awful and were inedible. The food came out within minutes of ordering - to some this may seem like a plus but it made me wonder how much of the food was pre-made, sitting in the back, waiting for someone to order it. My meal came with a side of potatoes which were also just really underwhelming and left a bad after taste in my mouth. The environment is cute - aside from the folding chairs set up for brunch. I might come back to try the service as a wine bar or coffee house but the brunch was simply not worth it. read more

BRUNCH REVIEW: Just had my first experience at this San Antonio brunch staple. Not gonna lie-I was super confused about the process upon walking in. So for the newbs who don't know it's every man for himself when nabbing a table (both inside and on the garden patio) and you have to go to the bar and stand in line to place and order (each and every time you want something). Given I was there at peak brunch time the line got to be quite long at times. It's a real homey space filled with couches and tables (and board games) to help you pass the time as you down your mimosas. I ordered the "green eggs and ham" with a side of sausage and it was surprisingly good. The fresh basil pesto used to give the scrambled eggs it's green appearance put a super tasty mix on a standard breakfast dish. After spending the entire time I was there staring at the delicious cakes they had on display my table and I broke down and ordered the red velvet cake and mimosa cake and they tasted just as good as they looked. The food was very good but the three star review comes in because for my table of four people-3 out of 4 of us had issues with orders. For two of us (myself included) parts of our orders were missing and for person number three part of the order was wrong. It took some time to correct these items. Also, at times when the line was longer it was just inconvenient. When I'm trying to relax and have a good time with my friends, going up to stand in a line 4 or 5 (for entree, multiple bottles of champagne, then dessert) separate times isn't really conducive to that. These two areas definitely impacted what was a delicious food experience for me. read more

I've been here so many times before quarantine and loved it but this most recent visit did not impress. Unfortunately, they no longer offer the multitude of coffee flavors they used to. Absolute bummer because even though I'm not a huge coffee person, they had some really yummy flavors I liked. It was really humid and warm in the restaurant, which made the dining experience less than great, especially when drinking a warm beverage. Didn't feel like my food was anything to brag home about. Husband's pancakes were a little burnt and the potatoes weren't very flavorful. Staff is always very friendly and the restaurant looked very clean. Glad to see hand sanitizer available and masks worn by employees. I will be coming back to give them another try. Hopefully, this last experience was a fluke. read more
