Quite a wait for a pizza ordered as a take out. I didn't feel like dining in. The location is a great area of downtown Carrollton and around plenty of other shops, bars, boutiques you name it. But I'm here for the food. And this pizza was underwhelming. I loved the flavor but the bottom of the pizza was a bit burnt; maybe it was left in the forno too long, who knows. I love that the pizzas are baked in a classic way. When they are done right they hit the spot, but it wasn't my night. I would've also like more chicken on top. One of my boyfriend's Customers gave him a couple compliment pizza cards for Cane Russo so we decided to take 2 of our sons out last night. This was all of our first time trying Cane Russo and unfortunately I cannot discredit the staff - they were nice but they were too young to handle their jobs. The hostess wasn't very welcoming, she didn't even want to talk to us when we entered but we got her to laugh before left. Our waitress was so new, she didn't even know if they offered Long Island Ice Teas which is understandable so she asked the Hostess and she didn't know either so I walked to the bar myself and asked. Most of the wait staff look like they were just out of High School. It took 15 minutes to get our first round of drinks, and then when we ordered our second round, our waitress forgot about them. The drink price was overpriced based on what we got but the price of everything is going up these days everywhere. Our pizza was about $20-$22 a piece considering we got toppings but the size of it could have been a little bigger than 14" for the price. I've been to a few different wood burning pizza establishments and so far this one is the worst. 2 out of 3 of our pizzas had a burnt taste (the bottom were black) but they were beautiful for me to take a pizza and the dough was very soft. I was bribed with pizza, but decided to give pasta a try! It did not disappoint. I got the Fusilli Alla Vodka which has sausage, vodka sauce, roasted red pepper, caramelized onions, and garlic breadcrumbs. It wasn't as saucey as I thought it would be and noodles were a bit tough, but the flavor was incredible. My friend did a custom pizza with chicken and pesto. Did you know you can add crispy brussel sprouts on top? Speaking of brussel sprouts, I've always heard great things so ordered them! They were good. I'd like mine to be more crispy next time. This place was a disappointment. The pizza flavor was awesome. I use to eat at the Fort Worth location a lot. The crust was always flaky and had the right consistency. This pizza dough was extremely chewy at this location. It wasn't as bad when it was popping hot but when it became warm it was like chewing gum. I had a side of Caesar salad. The serving size was about a 6-8oz bowl. There was also a lot of bugs flying around my pizza and drink the entire time. I had to fan my pizza while I wasn't eating. Pizzas were being served left and right We started with the rosemary focaccia - there is easily enough served for 4 people and we were only two. The cheese dip served with it has a honey jalapeno drizzle which is delicious We then split the Tribeca salad - once again a portion that could easily serve two For an entree I had the Baked Penne Bolo with one optional meatball. My issue with baked penne anytime I've ordered it is it had no flavor BUT not the case here. The Penne was flavorful and came with a dollop of ricotta cheese to add an additional creaminess to the marinara. The optional meatball I ordered was excellent. No doubt I will return. This location always hits the mark! It's in a super fun and walkable area with lots of other restaurants, bars, and a large brewery right behind it. We always have quick service here. We recently went for happy hour and it was surprisingly not busy yet. We were in and out within 40 minutes. We've never had a bad pizza here. Solid but not mind-blowing. Same way I feel about the one in Deep Ellum. Appetizer burrata was good. Appetizer meatballs were also good, but I can make better at home, and the sauce was too sweet for me. The bread served with burrata and meatballs was just grilled pizza dough. I would actually like the bread to be something else. I can get enough pizza dough when I order my pizza. Here Comes Treble pizza - sausage, garlic broccoli rabe, red pepper, fresh mozzarella. FANTASTIC. The crust held up perfectly to these ingredients, which were fresh, delicious, and perfectly balanced. Zoli pizza - soppressata, sausage, tomato sauce, mozzarella. Good ingredients, but waaaayy too floppy and soggy, which has always been my complaint about some of the Cane Rosso pizzas. It can be Neapolitan style while still being able to be held in your hand/eaten bite-to-bite without falling apart all over your plate. And it doesn't help that all the pizzas with soppressata have really large and chewy pieces. Fusilli alla vodka - sausage, vodka sauce, roasted red peppers, broccoli rabe, soppressata crispies. This was fine, but sausage and broccoli rabe is a classic pasta combo for a reason and it does not need peppers or soppressata and it most definitely does not need a tomato-based sauce. Salad - awesome assemblage of greens, multicolored grape tomatoes, onion, light dressing. Loved this. Service was pretty good. Really attentive and lovely overall, but there were stretches when she disappeared. Granted, we lingered for a long time, and probably took up half her station for half the night, but I think we tipped accordingly so hopefully it all evened out. Ambiance is fine for what it is and I felt comfortable all night so I can't complain. Drinks were not weak, but still overpriced for the amount. So. Good things and not as good things. A friend and I went to Cane Russo's restaurant in Carrollton today. Unfortunately we were VERY DISAPPOINTED with our pizza. We ordered the build your own pizza which starts with a MARGHERITA base and then you add toppings of your choice. We added meatballs and caramelized onion. The "meatballs" we actually this slices of a meatball (think pepperoni) and there weren't very many. At first we thought they forgot to put on the onion so we asked our waiter about it. He then showed us that there was some onion on the pizza, but the amount was so small that he could only point out 2 slices with onion. He did offer to get us more and we accepted. The biggest disappointment of all was that when we got the pizza it was cold and the crust was so soggy the slices were limp. We had to eat it with a knife and fork because you couldn't hold a slice in your hand. I really wanted to like this place, especially because of the dog rescue they're associated with, but neither one of us will ever go back to Cane Russo's again! I am gluten free. I had a pizza. This was the second time I have come to this establishment. The first time the pizza was so good! This time with was ok. I even ordered the exact same pizza type. The service was fine. We got everything we ordered. No one really checked on us, which is ok. It probably saved us money because I might have ordered another glass of wine. Ambiance is the reason I am writing. So we actually made a dinner reservation over the phone. I know. Not very common these days. Most do it online. My husband and I haven't been on a date in a LONG time. He even indicated on phone that this was the reason for dinner. We got there and were quickly sitted in the middle of the loud bar area. Now, since I had been there before I knew about the other room. I told my husband I was slightly bummed and told him to just go look at the other room. So sad. Food is great, they just can't handle the demand. I ordered, paid and waited forever for my pizza and salad. I left with nothing. Great pizza, useless staff. I overlooked the awkward, high school-like tension between waitstaff the first time I came here and ordered a few pizzas for pick up Friday night. This place is the best Za, other than Zoli's. The flavor is so good thanks to the wood fire, the crust is still super soft n the texture is to die for. The Honey Bastard and Nuggz are a go to. Pre-Corona times, got UberEats from here. Ordered the Classic Spaghetti & Meatballs, Baked Penne Bolo, Pizza of the month (March), Straight Fire and The Edgar for dessert. Classic Spaghetti & Meatballs ($14) - Really, really good. The sauce was yum and asked to make it spicy which they did and it was perfect - not loads of chilli flakes but actual spice cooked into the sauce. Baked Penne Bolo ($16) - A bit too much cheese, for me anyway. But good quality, would probably say less cheese next time. Or maybe get two of the Spaghetti & Meatballs hmm. POM Straight Fire ($17) - Delicious, again asked extra spicy and it was too good. All ingredients were fresh and the mix of mushrooms, jalapenos, soppressata and calabrian chile was great. The Edgar ($13) - Not a fan of this, it was a bit thin and dry. Think I'd go with the Lady Bird next time. Quantity - A bit on the smaller side, decent quantity but you can see in the pics it's not the usual sizing which usually lasts for more than one dinner - talking the pasta here. Spice - 3/5 Really good flavour and extra yum with the chilli. Taste - Fresh ingredients, good food and great mix of flavours. Apart from the dessert pizza, enjoyed the rest of the dishes.
