I'm still searching for a permanent groomer for my 8month old puppy so even with many recent negative reviews, i gave it a shot. Puppy came back well groomed but noticed the next day that he's licking his left paw constantly, a behaviour that i've never seen him do before. After examining, i found a huge gash between his toes. It looks like the tip of the scissor got caught between his toes while they were doing his leg/paw. After comparing left and right, the area where gash was, skin was bare and no hair at all while rest of the other in between toes were with hair. It was very strange. I immediately called to let them know; what's happened happened so I wasn't expecting or wanting any type of compensation but rather an apology: an apology for not notifying the owner after the cut and that the groomer was not careful to know that they made a mistake. But rather the receptionist was very defensive - i wasn't working yesterday so i can't help you - groomer did not leave any notes so it's probably not us - if it's just a cut, put some neosporne on it - because he's a puppy, he could have pulled his leg during the cut because they are not experienced - our clippers can't cut the dogs Really, on the phone i had nothing to say because it was just so baffling. As a small business owner, it's hard to see other small business doing this type of customer service. These irresponsible actions is what drives people to stay away and resort to more bigger corporates who might have better system with such mistake. Regardless of how the grooming turned out, we'll continue our search for the groomer. I would not feel comfortable recommending this place to anyone. read more

I feel so fortunate to have found this grooming facility! My Sophie was so nervous every time I took her to the big box groomers and so I believed she just didn't like getting groomed. After nearly a year I got frustrated and decided to give Canine Perfection a try. Wow!!! The minute I stepped into the salon the receptionist welcomed us so warmly and instantly put my anxiety to rest. I gave them direction on how I liked her groomed and sent photos as well. When I picked her up 2 hrs later she was happy and looked amazing! A week later the owner called to check in on Sophie and ensure I was happy with the experience. That personal touch really went a long way with me. I have been back 2x and am beyond thrilled with how she looks and at peace knowing the groomers take such good care of my fur baby. ABUSIVE. I walked in on our sweet boy being manhandled and abused by a groomer at this shop. And as I left, the owner screamed at me about his lack of proper conformation. The dog needed a haircut--he doesn't show--so why yell a bunch of conformation nonsense out of the blue? It was truly one of the most traumatic events for our dog, and one of the strangest for me. I am very disappointed in the treatment I received here. The bleached blond lady called to tell me my GSD was ready and to come get her as there were problems. I arrived at the business and she proceeds to tell me that my dog has injuries on both legs and, "a hole in her back." She said ," your dog is no longer welcome here." What!! No explanation or anything. I am a nurse and carefully examined my dog and found no "hole". They are very strange. What is she talking about? I got the feeling they just didn't want to groom larger dogs. Very odd behavior and no explanation. Where the pros go! I got my referral from a professional show dog connection and the owner here does specialty show grooming. My Havanese earned his grand champion title, and earned his first haircut. It was more stressful for me than when my child got her first haircut! They took plenty of time to discuss options, assure me and Buddy was happy and looking amazing when I picked him up. He looks fantastic a couple weeks later...still gets the looks and comments while we are out, but without so much hair so things are easy and fun for all of us. They take notes about the cut so I know when it's time to come back they will do exactly the same awesome job, or only make intentional changes if we discuss. But really, they nailed it on the first try. Price was reasonable and fair. I'm so grateful for transitioning my long haired show dog to pet life with style and class. Thank you!!! read more

After waiting a month for my appointment, I was told I had no appointment. With no apology, the receptionist recommended I call a mobile groomer. I have a 17 year old pup and was referred here by a friend in the dog training industry because they will work with two groomers on one dog, making the experience easier on the elderly pup. Well, after telling me they have my information right there, with the date I was going to come in, she said they never actually booked my appointment, (?) and then began to talk about how they were "phasing out" working on older dogs. Well, why schedule the appointment if you don't want to do the work? At least apologize, or call me so I don't have to wait a month to find a new groomer! So irresponsible, and very rude. Also, if I were this business owner, I'd remember that people with older dogs usually have younger dogs as well. read more

It doesn't smell bad, the ladies are lovely, the location is easy for us lake o peeps, and while spending $70 to groom a 10 lb dog feels super expensive, the convenience and quality make it worth it (almost!) My dog is blind, hard of hearing and smell, and rather incontinent. They made him feel like a thorough bred. He pranced around for days after! read more

Our Bichon is 9 years old and has been going to the groomer since she was a puppy. She had a series of bad cuts at the groomer we had been going to for a couple years and so we decided to let her grow out until we found the right place for our fancy pants dog. :) This was our first time at Canine Perfection and it is the best cut she has ever had! The whole experience was great. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The shop is clean and professional. The owner met with us and made us feel comfortable with how she would groom our dog. We felt confident and well informed when we left her there. Our dog was ready when they said she would be and best of allwas calm and happy when we picked her up and she looked amazing! The groomers are excellent, and I recommended this business to many people until this happened. I drove over an hour to get my little dog groomed here every two weeks, and all was well until she was spayed, and I had to wait three weeks to get her in. She's going through a coat change, and the inflatable collar from her surgery caused mats. I worked every day with corn starch and a comb I bought at Canine Perfection to get the mats out, and it was hard on her. She ate a treat from New Seasons (an I Love You jerky treat) and became very ill for over a week with vomiting an diarrhea. She was on an IV for a couple of days, and I sat on the sofa with her on my lap for the better part of three weeks. I saw that she was matting beyond my control because I didn't want to hurt her when she felt so bad, so I called Canine Perfection and moved her appointment up a week. I explained the situation to the front office. While we were waiting, my husband took me to nearby La Provence because it was my 72nd birthday, and I had been inside with my little dog for so many weeks (my husband was on business trips). While we were having our breakfast, the owner called on my cell and shamed me for letting her get matted. I explained that I couldn't brush her in her state, and she told me that I have to bring her in even when she's sick. I felt physically sick to my stomach and couldn't eat or enjoy my birthday breakfast because I knew in my heart I had taken care of my little dog while she was ill. She's my world, and I couldn't hold back from crying in public because my little one was suffering. I had to leave the restaurant so as not to embarrass myself. Her illness and the lecture was a breaking point for me. The owner said it would take an hour extra and her groomer's hands would be tired and she would have to put two groomers on my dog for the side mats, but when I arrived 15 minutes early, she was already in a cage waiting. No hour extra. I was charged $150 for the same time as it usually took to groom her. I followed all of their recommendations of the front office for having her there every two weeks, but after I recovered from my the shock of this lecture, I became upset and angry. I refuse to be shamed by an owner who had no idea of what had happened to my little dog during her illness. She said my dog couldn't raise her chin from the mats, but that was not so because my brother, a physical therapist, checked her over the day before. I'm sick. I like the groomer so much and tipped her $10 to $20 each visit, but I feel the owner just wanted to make me feel bad in order to charge me $150. I've since contacted a closer groomer who doesn't charge Lake Oswego prices. We are fortunate that we can afford these prices, and I understand that coat change is a problem, but my dog was really sick. I don't want to dissuade any one who had the groomer I had, but please be cautious if you use this service. read more

It is so comforting that this groomer has a zero contact drop off and pick up! I appreciate that each dog that enters their business requires getting a bath! I wouldn't want to have my dog standing on a groom table that another's dirty dog has been on! We brought our dog here for 5 plus years for a grooming. We haven't always had the most pleasant experience. There was one groomer that worked with our dog who was wonderful, I wish I knew her name and that's why we kept coming back. She loved our animal so much. BUT the owner is something else. She has ALWAYS been rude. When I have had to reschedule because things come up.. hello life, she has ALWAYS BEEN RUDE. The last time I went to reschedule an apt I gave them 48 hours notice and the women who I talked to at the front desk told me she was going to have to charge me a no show. A now show??? I gave her 2 days notice! Plenty of time to reschedule someone else. Then shortly after a charge for 180 came through my account from them. I called back and they told me they had to charge me the full amount for the apt. 180??? Excuse me for 2 days notice. I'm not sure what their policy is but 48 hrs is plenty of time. We have given them 1000s of dollars at this point and to treat us rudely. She told me that there was a note in our account saying because of past activity, we needed to be charged anytime we rescheduled. If I no showed then that's something else but to be charged after giving notice is not okay. The only reason they got 1 star is because of the sweet groomer who used to groom our dog who I think is no longer there. I will be calling my bank and reporting fraud to get my money back and will be finding a new groomer. Seems to be that this owner has no customer service skills and does not know how to treat people who give her their business. I hope she reads these reviews and changes her ways. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOGS HERE. I gave this place two chances before I decided to write this review. Our dogs had been getting groomed at a previous location in Portland for years by a wonderful groomer who we LOVE. She moved to Canine Perfection and, of course, we followed her! During our first appointment, I was a bothered by my interactions with the front desk staff. The person was rude and didn't acknowledge my dogs or me. I let that slide. When I came to pick my dogs up, I was treated similarly. I let that slide, too. My dogs looked great, and I was happy to be back with our lovely groomer! The woman said she would run my card. I asked her how much it was with tip, and she said $240. Yikes! More than I spend on my own hair, but again, I let that slide. It's all about the dogs. About two weeks later, I noticed a charge for $288 on my card. I called and asked about the discrepancy and the staff member explained the $240 was BEFORE tip. Whatever- seems unprofessional and sketchy, but again- I let it slide. I scheduled my next appointment and that is when the real trouble began.. I took my dogs into the building and, again, no acknowledgement was made. I introduced myself and said I had an appointment. The lady was eager to tell me she was the owner. Yikes! The owner doesn't have strong enough customer service skills to greet guests?! Again, I let it slide. I look at my dogs and they are clawing at the door and shaking- something I had never seen EITHER of them do in their 4+years of vet, grooming, and various appointments. I immediately knew by their behavior that something was wrong. She told me I needed to put my dogs on the Canine Perfection leads, remove their harnesses, and hand them to her. I asked her when I would need to pick them up. She told me that because one of my dogs was making sounds (scared whining/crying), that she would NOT be able to keep them both there at the same time and that I needed to come pick one up in an hour and then come back to pick the other one up in two hours. I explained that last time I was able to keep both dogs there for a total of three hours before picking up, and I was expecting a similar experience this time. She immediately went on to brag about how she is the "owner" and how she runs things differently. She doesn't let dogs bark and can't have a dog making sounds for the duration of both of their appointments. At this point she had my dogs in her hand and took them to the back room. I was shocked by her aggressive movements and did not feel safe leaving my dogs there. She was extremely rude, aggressive and NASTY in her mannerisms, handling of my animals and in her conversations with me. When she came back out I told her I would be taking my dogs with me and canceling my appointment. I told her to remove my card from her database and cancel my account. I have never in my life had such a terrible experience regarding my animals. My dogs are my babies, but I acknowledge their flaws. It takes a lot for me to feel like their safety is being compromised by another human, especially someone who is supposed to care for animals. I have never written a negative Yelp review or canceled an appointment that abruptly. I try not to publicly shame businesses, especially during uncertain times, but I feel it is important for people to know about their business practices. Sonoma and her Mama absolutely adore Canine Perfection! Sonoma is our 4 year old rescued Border Collie and this was her first time having a spa day! Even though she's been with us for 3 years now, she can become easily stressed by new people and situations... but not with Michelle and her amazing groomers! Sonoma was not only beautiful and silky soft when I picked her up, but she actually seem relaxed and proud of herself! I also appreciated the extra time the owner Michelle spent with us when we first arrived, answering my questions and putting my mind at ease. Until a second groomer assisted and my dog started yelping and cowering and evening tried to nip the lady. After I heard the first noise, I watched thru the glass for about 30 seconds and instantly understood why my dog was reacting that way. The Groomer's actions were rough- almost aggressive. It was shocking. My dog has been hand stripped her whole life and has never made a sound, nor tried to bite the groomer. I stopped the appointment immediately. We have been taking our Standard Poodles to Michell Evans, owner of Canine Perfection, for several years now. Especially, Michell has groomed our show Poodles for AKC competitions. Each and every time, they are groomed to perfection, as in the name of the saloon. The staff are all professional--friendly and very competent--and above all, honest. Michell is an very talented and accomplished groomer who knows exactly how to groom dogs according to the breed standards, so important for show competitions. Michell has consistently groomed our Standard Poodle boy, Gibson, who recently finished his American Championship in the show ring in stiff competition with professional handlers. Having taken a few classes from her, she is also a super teacher; I just wish I could scissor like her! We have owned Standard Poodles for over 25 years now, and Canine Perfection is the best! read more

Canine Perfection has left a permanent and remaining impressing of what disturbing and unacceptable client service and pet grooming are.   I do not typically write reviews. Still, as noted, this establishment was remarkably impressionable most cynically and negatively, and I feel it is my duty to inform anyone who is considering bringing their furry loved one there. The establishment is named "Canine Perfection," and their mission statement is, "We work hard to maintain a calm and quiet atmosphere for your dog or cat. We work by appointment so that your pets receive individual care. All of our services are offered with compassion and expertise by Certified Master Groomers." My pup did not receive this type of service or care. Nor did I receive any compassion or a calm atmosphere from the owner herself. At only our second visit, my pup came home with a bloodshot eye. It was apparent something went wrong during his visit; he was extremely stressed out and shaking when leaving. Yet, the employees elected not to mention what had happened, later behaving as if it was not significant or a big deal. Once I noticed my dog reacted to his visit, I immediately paid a visit to his vet. The veterinarian advised me this bloodshot hemorrhage could have been caused by only two things, strangulation (necktie too tight) or stress. Clearly, after hearing this, I was deep concern about how my dear pet could have been treated during his visit. As noted, I attempted to discuss this with the owner and the general employees. When finally, being able to meet in person, she quickly responded to the situation only after a few minutes by outing me. Mentioning in a hostile voice how she "didn't need my business or money," throwing me back what I had paid in the tip in cash out of her wallet -- then noting how she didn't care to hear what I had to say and that she just wanted me to leave and she then kicked me and my pup out. All of this occured in front of some of her employees, which to me, was completely unnecessary. I was completely thrown off by this behavior, lack of empathy, and complete avoidance to discuss what happened. I wasn't there with the intention of any compensation, but I wanted to make sure that it never happened again, and to make sure that whoever was the "Certified Master Groomer" in charge of my dog would be let know that they need to be more gentle than what they were that day. Overall, the experience was the most disrespectful treatment I've ever received and the most unprofessional. I hope all the pet lovers out there taking the time to read this, please do your research and find a more loving place for your friendly pet. It seems this place only looks at our pets as simple numbers and just that, not as the furry loveable family members they are to us. read more

I came here based off the fabulous reviews and boasts from the website that getting your dog groomed by a "certified master groomer" would provide "superior service." The first time I got my golden retriever groomed at Canine Perfection I went to pick my dog up and the groomer seemed appalled that I hadn't noticed that my dog had a rash around his neck from where his collar had been. They advised that I go to the vet ASAP to take care of it. I left feeling embarrassed. I took him to the vet and spent $50 for my vet to tell me she could see nothing in his fur that would suggest a rash. She thoroughly looked him over. I left frustrated and annoyed. I decided to try Canine Perfection again because I did like the haircut they gave him. The second time around I went in to pay and they charged me $20 more for my dog than the first time he went. I own a 60 pound English Golden Retriever who they had told me the first time I took him didn't even need the full amount of time to be groomed! On this second visit apparently he was more difficult to keep in the bathtub (he got nervous) and warranted a final price tag of $100 for a bath and haircut! Totally NOT worth it! Especially when I received the same haircut and bath the first time for $80. Additionally $80 is the "large dog" price. $100 is the EXTRA LARGE dog price. I don't think anyone has ever called my dog "large" before. My dog also didn't have any mats or problems with his fur he just needed to be washed and given a haircut. Their prices are absolutely ridiculous for what they offer. I thought I was getting something special here but turns out I wasn't. I will never go back again. The only reason I downloaded the Yelp app was to warn others about my experience here. Petsmart does an equally, if not better, job for half the price! read more

I took our Havanese puppy, Albert, here after a few bad experiences with other groomers. Canine Perfection did a lovely job. Michelle took the time to show me pictures to narrow down what I was looking for rather than assuming what I wanted and just doing it without discussion. I was very particular that his face not be trimmed so far down that he lost his puppy shape. Sure, enough they kept him looking like the puppy that he is while giving him his first big boy hair cut. The other woman that did intake/outtake for clients was absolutely warm and wonderful as well. They also take thorough notes on everything so they can replicate and/or adjust as necessary the next time. We will definitely be going back. read more

I just called to make my regular appointment for Leona, a Chihuahua mix, who finally found a nail salon where she didn't struggle during the appointment. I was informed that I was not welcome to bring her in for her much-needed nail appointment. I was informed they are not doing nail-only appointments, but that should would be required to endure a full "grooming appointment." The cost wasn't prohibitive, but the Owner Michell Evans made it clear that "Leona wasn't welcome because they aren't allowing two technicians to work on a dog." Michell said: "She is not welcome here." When I asked her why not? Leona is a very sweet doggie. Michell noted: "We are only working with owners who are respectful of our business policies during this time." I offered to give Leona a bath prior to coming into the appointment. I heard from a friend that there was a skilled groomer (who I later found out was also the owner) at Canine Perfection that also worked on cats so I decided to take my 2 girls in. It took a few days to find an available appointment that worked with my schedule but it turned out to be worth the wait & the receptionist was very helpful with making the arrangements. I wanted them bathed, their nails trimmed, & a lion trim on the younger, fluffier kitty. I was very happy with the results & how clean & soft my girls were when we I got them home! They also seemed very happy & playful so an all around great experience. I'll certainly plan to bring my cats back to Canine Perfection & when I get another dog hope to bring them in as well. read more

After over a year of being consistent customers, we thought we had found a groomer we would always bring our dog to. Not the case. After one scheduling conflict, pushing our normal cadence out a couple weeks, they decided they didn't want to take our pup anymore. Shocking to us after a single mix up, to kick a loyal customer out the door. It is unfortunate the dedicated groomers and friendly reception staff fall victim to terrible management. This is my very first review of anything, and sadly it's a negative one. This establishment came very highly recommended to me from a friend. Especially good for first time puppy grooming. The receptionist was so kind with booking the appointment, asked a lot of questions, and made sure our first appointment was with the owner, per their policy. We waited 2.5 weeks to get in. When we arrived at 4, I was told to return at 6. I checked in at 5:30, and was told my pup was being "over dramatic " and come back at 6. When I picked him up at 6, he was in shock, shaking, and nursing the underside of 3 of his paws. When I wiped his feet that night after a short walk.. they were bleeding. 3 days later, with paws still bleeding, I confirmed with my vet, that they were razor burns, and starting to scab over, in addition they had cut a few of his nails to short, causing more bleeding. When I called to ask about the visit, the owner was extremely cold, defensive, and told me, I needed a second opinion (my vet didn't know what she was talking about) they did nothing wrong, my pup licked his own paws open and made them bleed. Lastly, that I need to do some google research... I had no clue. Wow... never going back... if they can be this cold to me and a 4 month old puppy... I can only imagine what goes on behind close doors. Very poor!!!! read more

I went to them based on the reviews. I arrived a 10 minutes early to pick him up and could see my dog (10lbs) still on the grooming table and the girl that was grooming him being extremely rough with him. When she saw me looking at through the window, she stopped started petting and praising him and giving him treats. They also shaved him completely, which is still puzzle to me because of the lengthy discussion on only trimming his coat one inch. During this first conversation, I also asked them to call me if they had any problems because I wanted him to have a positive experience, they assured they would and said that if dogs are having a hard time a second groomer steps in to hold the dog and keep them as calm as possible. (this clearly did not happen).They also charged me more because they said it took longer, which made no sense because they when I dropped him off they told me it would take longer because they were running behind. I was so upset at what I saw her doing to my dog, the shaving and the increased price was the least of my worries. She started to tell me how good he did. I said to her I saw what you did to him and how you were mis-treating him, and she told me he needed to be disciplined and trained on the table. She said she was sorry she shaved him and that the owner would call me. I have yet to here from the owner. What a horrible experience for both me and my little dog. read more
