Atmosphere: Cute little place with a very eclectic vibe. They have everything from wall sconces, to blueprints, to neon signs, a giant moose head, and they have a piano in the front window for people to play. The bathrooms were clean. There was also a real sense of family? amongst the patrons, everyone sitting at the bar seemed to know each other and it had small town feel in a city. Service: Friendly waitstaff from the hostess to the server to the busser to the bartender. The young man working as the busser was literally on the go non-stop. He must have had 3000 steps in just in the time we were there. He filled out water glasses 3 times and we were really grateful for him. Drinks: We didn't opt for drinks this time but will for sure be ordering some during our next visit. The blonde bartender was SLAYING drinks. I've never seen someone so confidently make a cosmo and an old fashion within a 3 min. time span. She is a force and knows exactly what she is doing. Food: We ordered an appetizer and two entrees. I really recommend the calamari appetizer, great quality and the spicy sauce that came with it was delicious (I love the spice level it was perfect!). I literally can't stop thinking about the salad I had, it was so diverse in flavor profile and texture...salty, sweet, acidic, bitter, creamy, crunchy, and fresh. I have only one complaint, both of our water glasses on the table that we had to drink out of were dirty (dried food stuck on the outside of the glasses and a sticky residue). What has happened to Cannova's? Seems like the challenges in the restaurant industry have hit this place. This used to be one of our go-to places in Neenah for 25 yrs but not any more. Had a very sub-par experience this evening like other recent visits and doubt we'll be back. Same old tired menu and the hostess and wait staff are young college students where they used to be more experienced waiters. We had a disruptive table next to us and was in clear view of the hostess station but they did nothing to help. We couldn't wait to leave but the waiter took 20 minutes to get us our check. For a "nicer" restaurant I expect more. I think we're done there. read more

Cannovas Pizzeria IS THE BEST IN TOWN!! It tastes like the Italian food I had in NYC. My boyfriend's grandfather was born in the Bronx and grew up on Long Island. This is his first pick for Italian food. He says the pizza is as close as you can get for an authentic NYC pizza. Their sauce is so delicious too, it's not over acidic like other places. I can't express my family's love for Cannova's. Tonight we got take out - amazing as always and the bread was still warm! Cute little family owned place and the owner always comes to say hi when we are there (we probably go at least twice a month in the summer). The red sauce was too sweet. Grandma (from Sicily) used to put a little sugar in a LARGE pot of red sauce, way too much here at Cannovas. This sauce was missing oregano, salt, had too much sugar. Service was over 30 mins to serve spaghetti and meatballs? The garlic cheese bread was missing garlic. Service was mediocre. BUT, what are you going to do in Neenah, WI? Odd thing is a guy walks in and orders a salad and mentions going to the big Wednesday night concert 1 block down the street to eat it; might need to give him a fork and napkin. Okay, I did ask for a fork and you went to get it. Did I mention how awesome the salad was? Really good. Fortunately you supply 3 copies of the kitchen ticket and those worked well for a napkin. My wife and I tried to eaten here this evening but were completely ignored at the hostess desk. There were only two occupied tables and about five people at the bar, they were not busy. We stood there making eye contact with all the wait staff, the bartenders kept looking over but were talking to people standing at the bar and never acknowledged us. One member of staff finally came over with two menus, placed them on a stack of other menus, never looked up and just walked away. We still waited patiently a few minutes more but the disinterested staff never showed any sign of performing the simple act of welcoming us in or explaining if there was some other issue. We were hoping this would be better than 3.5 stars but I cannot say it is from what we experienced. The waitress was great and very helpful in letting us know what was popular. In the end we decide on splitting a pizza because we were not super hungry. I also added cheesy garlic bread. The bread came soon bit your going to want to ask for a dipping sauce. It did not have a good garlic flavor and it was a bit dry. We thought it should have had more butter on it. The pizza came out and we added Parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes and we still thought it was lacking flavor so we asked for some extra sauce. The sauce is slightly sweet. Some may like that. They had nice music and some musicians where there to play live which sounded great. Overall, we would try somewhere else jext time. read more

Visiting for work and came across this place while walking. They were one of the only businesses still open. I ordered the salmon avocado and artichoke hearts. It did take a while for the food to come out but I can tell you the wait is worth it! The salmon avocado dish was absolutely delicious! Will be having dinner there again before leaving. As someone that has traveled in business for years and often dining alone, l have had many pizza's all ordered with the same ingredients. Cheese, sausage, mushroom. Seems simple enough. Just find the best pizza l can. I read many of the reviews ahead of settling on a destination. This one had many great ones and a few stinkers, but mostly seemed like a decent place so l gave it a whirl. I was stunned when l saw this particular pizza and it did not disappoint. In fact, l was hard pressed to think of a better pizza in my years of questing to find the best. I ordered a 12" pizza. The ingredients featured a choice of fresh mozz, fresh cut mushrooms and sliced Italian sausage! The crust was crispy and done to perfection. The sauce had excellent flavor, a slightly thicker sauce but not chunky, nor runny. As we all know, great pizza starts with a great sauce. The price for this little gem was a tad spendy but well worth every penny and would definitely order here again. Service was attentive and the place has a nice old world charm. If you are anywhere near the downtown Neenah area, give this place a try. read more

The staff were so incredibly kind, the hostess and our waiter. We sat in the bar area and I loved the vibe, not sure what's on the other side of the wall for seating. Both my mom and I got different pastas and the sauce was pretty sweet- but that's just a preference thing. It was still great. By far the best Italian restaurant in Neenah and arguably the entire Fox Valley. The pasta and pizza are superb but they also offer much more on the menu. There are also steak and salmon dishes and a weekly special. Lots of specialty thin crust pizzas that aren't too greasy. Cannova's is also a great bar if you're looking for fancy cocktails and wine. There's a great selection of wine and top shelf spirits. Josh & Chloé are superb bartenders and are very creative with the cocktails they create. I've spent many a night at the bar enjoying an old fashioned and watching a classic film on the tv. During dinner hours there will be a local musician playing great background music. The place is popular with the working class as well as the local elites. I'd recommend Cannova's to pretty much anyone. read more

My husband and I finally made it here last night, after being back in the area for 6 years and always driving by this place. It's come highly recommended by many people and on Yelp so I knew we would have a good experience ( compared to the disaster at Milwaukee Burger Co., I know completely different establishment but still) anyway. We were greeted within a minute (!!!) by a friendly server, I forget her name. She wore fingerless gloves, shoulder length hair and was very pleasant. Too bad I forgot her name. She took our drink order and appetizer order and those came out pretty fast, and it was getting quite busy. I was pleasantly surprised, and let me tell you the bruschetta was fantastic! Full of flavor and you could easily make a meal out of that. Husband ordered the tomato basil cream and I went with the classic red sauce and meatballs. Both were fantastic and came out within 10 minutes on a bustling Saturday night. My red sauce and meatballs were great - flavorful sauce, meatballs were tender and the pasta was delicious. So was the tomato basil cream from what I understood. And you get a lot of food, we took the rest home with us. Oh and the bread and oil is amazing! Bread you can tell was freshly made, and not out of a bag. One other thing I noticed was that our server came back quite often to refill water, see how we were doing, answer our questions, etc. And again, very pleasant! Every time we come here we have an excellent experience. We discovered it about 10 years ago and keep coming back. Service is excellent whether it is at check in, the bar or at our table. Food tastes fresh and home made. Love their red pasta sauce! I heard it was the grandfather's recipe. On our last visit we started off with the bruschetta (it's our favorite around), shared a small Caesar and enjoyed the bread with dipping olive oil/balsamic. Fresh out of the oven, piping hot and soft. Didn't think about our entrees that were still coming out. Sadly we didn't have much room to enjoy all of the lasagna my husband ordered and the salmon I got, but took them home to enjoy later. First time visit with friends on a Friday evening during the Neenah Christmas festivities downtown and were happy we stopped. Cozy atmosphere: dimmed lighting, bit romantic, nicely decorated. What you would expect from an Italian restaurant. We were glad we were seated in the far room, though, as I think the live music might have been too loud otherwise. Good choice of beers on tap and in bottles; not large but varied. Surprised and quite happy that they offered flights. Good-sized menu with plenty of appetizer, salad, pasta, and make-your-own-pizza options. Fresh, warm bread was served almost immediately with oil/balsamic - delicious. While maybe not award-winning, our dinners were seasoned well, tasted good, and were what we expected. Portion size was average. Cloth napkins and quality flatware and china. Service was friendly and attentive. Our wait time for our entree's was average which I thought good considering they were busy. Our server did a nice job of explaining the specials and making sure we were satisfied. Our water glasses never became empty. This Italian restaurant is truly authentic Two locations in Illinois where is opened and the one in Neenah, Wisconsin. We had an amazing meal. Started out with calamari as an appetizer and I'm pretty sure this is the best all of us had. It is definitely something to try as a starter. Fresh warm bread was served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Very good. We were craving pizza and were not disappointed. The Italian sausage was excellent on the pizza. Margarita Pizza was one of my favorites. Service was great! Live piano player in the bar made the evening extra special. Such an enjoyable night. Went here for the first time. Had supper around 515 on 8/2. The place filled up fast for a Thursday night. The staff was very friendly and always smiling, and informative! Service was timely. The restaurant was very clean with an old school feel to it. Prices were very reasonable for what you got, serving sizes were plentiful. Ordered the cheesy bread and marinara sauce, both were very fresh and full of flavor. The Supreme pizza was perfectly done. Visiting Neenah on business caused me to look for restaurants so I fell upon Cannovas being in the mood for something other than pizza. The menu isn't overly broad and don't expect more classic Italian dishes or a grand pizza selection. On the day I ate inside I arrived 30 min after opening and the daily special was already sold out. Apparently they only had 3 fish. So I settled for an old standby, lasagna with a side of meatballs and I'm glad I did. The lasagna was hot and flavorful with a huge portion (I actually took half home). The meatballs were probably baked with a slight crust and robust meaty flavor. The red sauce was hearty although a bit sweeter than I like. I liked it so much that I did takeaway another night with lasagna and meatballs again but also ordered the prosciutto salad which was really well balanced with a nice tasty homemade dressing. Overall I was very happy. I'd only suggest they tone down the cheese on top of the lasagna which tended to overwhelm the otherwise great dish because of its volume. read more

They had excellent pasta, salads, pizza, and a large selection of non pasta/pizza entrees if that's what you're looking for! The bread service was wonderful, with two different types of bread with a delicious olive oil- balsamic vinegar dip! I got the grapefruit Prosecco spritz and it was refreshing and light, highly recommend if you don't want beer or a red wine! The calamari was tender and the marinara dipping sauce had a slight kick, some of the best calamari I've ever had! The creamy tomato basil pasta was some of the beat sauce I've ever tried! The $4 tossed salad was very large and the creamy Italian dressing was perfect! Told us what other customers tended to like, though. Food: scallops were done perfectly. Calamari-tasty and there is a ton even with small order. Caesear salad was perfectly dressed-garlicky/lemony and good crunch. I didnt like red sauce for dipping. I thought it was too spicy with no flavor but my husband thiught it was good. Atmosphere: we sat in high top at bar. Weird location in front of bathrooms and kitchen but we just sat with our backs that way and enjoyed the two man band. We are new to town. This is a very nice looking place, the interior and exterior are perfect for a date night. Food was good had the margarita pizza add balsamic to it, I thought it was very good. But the main reason for going is the atmosphere. A little pricey for what you get $25 for pizza $7 beer . But I have no problem paying this if atmospheres is romantic and classy and it is. I did not give it a 5 because are waiter asked us to go to the bar as they need to turn the table, problem was we had just finished and seemed to be rushing us. Have been going to Cannova's for 15 years, so have been through several menus and chefs. Overall a really solid Italian joint, better than one would expect for a small town in Wisconsin. Ambiance is great and the food is really good. I usually stick with lasagna or spaghetti with meatballs, but the salmon and chicken dishes are also good. Also recommend the pizza. Will keep coming back here, and would give this place a #2 after Carmella's for Best Italian in the area. read more

We are fairly regular at Canova's and the food & service is typically very good. Tonight however was poor. The restaurant wasn't busy, but the food had a terribly long wait and arrived luke warm. The waitress did not check on us during the meal despite empty water glasses and the cool food. After a long wait after we were done eating, the waitress finally arrived to ask if we were interested in deserts, we started express our disappointment in service, but the waitress left mid sentence by turning her back on us and walked away. Meanwhile, the hostess was talking at a nearby table for a fairly long time and spent no time check on us or other diners. Get it together team Canova. read more

Our experience was mediocre at best. The calamari was quite good but everything else lacked taste and authenticity. I spent three years in Italy and nothing about this restaurant experience brought me back. The pizza was nothing close to real Italian pizza and the pasta sauce tasted no different than store bought Ragu. For the above average prices, it just didn't deliver. We questioned whether or not it was actually an Italian restaurant at our table and when we asked the waitress at the end of the meal, she laughed and replied "barely." The first time we traveled from Appleton to eat dinner here, it was really crowded. And it was raining outside, so we couldn't just walk around for the hour+ to wait. We went to Cranky Pat's instead. A few weeks later, we came back on a night when there was no musician playing (which had been the case on the previous Saturday we tried to eat there). So, we finally made it back and we were not entirely impressed. The atmosphere is really great: dimly lit, romantic, classy. The food, however, was just okay, at best. The garlic bread was VERY salty, so much so that my boyfriend tasted it but couldn't manage to eat any more. The thin crust cheese pizza was also pretty salty, though a step above the garlic bread. If the prices had been better, this would have been a solid three star establishment. However, given what we had to pay for this meal, I have to be honest with myself. I know we could get much better for much cheaper. When the waiter asked how we liked the food, my boyfriend was honest about how unsatisfied he was with the meal, and the waiter didn't even offer a free dessert or to at least not charge for the garlic bread. I don't think he even really apologized. Also, we were seated near a bathroom where you could see directly into the toilet as the door opened and closed. It was also noticeably too warm there. Come here if you don't mind waiting, like live music on Fridays and Saturdays, and enjoy a classy/romantic atmosphere. I won't go out of my way to come back here, but I am curious to hear the live music and maybe to try something else. Maybe.
