Seventeen bucks for this? Absolutely diabolical. The waffle looked like it came from a middle school cafeteria, and the chicken must have been on vacation because it was nowhere to be found. As if that wasn't enough, the manager actually made one of us get up so they could move a rug and set up for the party that was apparently more important than our table. We waited more than 20 minutes after being seated before anyone came to our table, even though the restaurant wasn't busy. We had to ask just to get a server. When the food came out, only one plate was served and it was cold, mine never arrived. After I asked, the server came back but never acknowledged me and immediately went to another table. It was clear my order hadn't been put in, and there was no communication at all. I spoke with the owner, who was very understanding and kindly comped my plate, which I truly appreciated. I have been on Mothers day(~10am) at the Canopy Road Cafe. It was raining but this wasn't the problem. We find a nice spot and start ordering. Everything looks nice and calm. The coffee was medium hot. The orange juice prefabricated, tasted more like chemicals. The food I ordered was a Breakfast Buritto was cold inside and outside. The Tater tops was cold too. I asked the server how it should served. She confirmed it should served hot. For heating up they microwaved it! Still not good. I listen to all server around my table so most common phrase was "I'm so sorry" when the order doesn't match with customer expectations and there was a lot of orders in the time we have been there. What started as an eagerly anticipated breakfast outing turned into a disappointing experience from start to finish at Canopy Road Cafe in Southwood on Merchants Row. The issues began at the hostess stand, where we were told our wait would be 20-25 minutes. In reality, we waited over an hour to be seated. Once finally at our table, we were ignored for another 10 minutes before anyone took our drink orders - and even then, one drink was forgotten. The menu had looked impressive online, but the reality fell far short. We tried to order donuts from the specials menu, only to be told they were unavailable - odd for early in the breakfast service. After a 30-minute wait for food, dishes started arriving piecemeal. The last person in our party of five received their meal a full 15 minutes after the first, meaning some had finished eating before others even started. Although the sweet potato pancake ($9 for one) was shared by the table and was delicious, quality issues plagued nearly every dish: 1. One sandwich came on white bread instead of the requested sourdough (which they'd run out of). It was missing avocado, had a subpar tomato, skimpy chicken, and bizarrely, sauces that should have been incorporated into the sandwich arrived as condiments in packets placed directly on the food. 2. "Over medium" eggs arrived with nearly raw, transparent whites. 3. Biscuits and gravy were cold. 4. A "medium" steak was served very rare. 5. An omelet was practically raw, missing ingredients, and topped with a packet of sour cream instead of it being incorporated. The service was inattentive and disorganized throughout. While I understand restaurants can have off days, this experience was a fail on all fronts. After reading other reviews, I can see that these are ongoing issues. Sad, because the place seems so inviting, with a great menu and delightful location with outdoor seating. Given the multitude of issues with both food and service, I cannot recommend Canopy Road Cafe and won't be returning. read more

I love CRC, and I've been to all of them except this one. We figured it might be a little less busy than the others, we waited about 20-30 minutes (typical for a weekend, actually faster than usual). But I didn't expect to wait so long at the hostess stand. The man standing there didn't acknowledge us at all for about 5-7 minutes and we were the only ones waiting at the stand. We ordered mini churro donuts which were fabulous! I ordered the southern Benedict and asked for poached eggs (the menu says it comes basted, which that would have been fine too). However the eggs came out over medium...like dry yolk medium. Everything else was pretty tasty except my husband and I noticed something was very off about the tomatoes, maybe they went bad? I probably won't go back to this CRC, I felt bad for the servers they seemed very flustered and i got the impression management was not doing the best at managing. On 12/19 my friend and I met for brunch here and it was very disappointing. I normally love Canopy Road but not yesterday. We both ordered eggs Benedict and hash browns. We waited quite a while and when the food arrived the hollandaise sauce was split, the eggs were cooked hard, they substituted Bibb lettuce for the arugula. I asked to hold the tomato and it arrived with tomato in tact. Other than being with my friend; it was a terrible experience. read more

Last time they squeezed us at a table that doesn't even comfortably fit 4. Tried to go this morning for Father's Day. There were multiple tables large enough to comfortably fit my family. They tried again to squeeze us all into one of the tiny tables. I asked if we could sit at one of the larger tables that were available. The waitress said my children were not old enough to warrant one of the large tables. They said they were saving all these tables for parties of 5 adults. They turned my family away for Father's Day breakfast. Now we are eating Dunkin' Donuts... needless to say they've lost my business for good. read more

Arrived this morning and told it would be 25-30 minutes. Waited patiently 45 minutes and told it would be another 20-25 minutes. Finally seated and waited. We had to ask for a server. When one arrived we were told it would be an hour wait for the food! At no point during our lengthy wait were we told that food would be so late as well. Clearly, they weren't telling customers because they didn't want people to leave. I have been a frequent, loyal customer of Canopy for years but I will not return to this poorly managed location that showed blatant disregard and disrespect for its customers. Update: I received a nice note from the owner acknowledging that there were several issues at this location yesterday. He offered a sincere apology and regrets for our experience. My husband and I love this place for both breakfast and lunch! It's my favorite Canopy Road in Tallahassee. It pretty small, but if you get there at the right time you usually won't wait long. My advice would be to go early. We always receive great service, and Kellie is great! Some of our favorites: -Captain Crunch French Toast (soo much fruit and delicious!) -All omelets! (I like the veggie and Jamaican ones best) -The Abner (fried chicken tenders on honey butter biscuits=AMAZING) -The Traditional Breakfast Skillet (replace ham with sausage) -The Blueberry Cobbler Pancake (in love with this one!) -They have specialty pancakes each month (the thin mint one was good!) -The Dagwood, lunch sandwich (HUGE sandwich, quality deli meat) There's so much to choose from here, you have to give it a try! read more

I would highly recommend this cafe - If you are in town or just passing by. The staff greets you warmly as you are seated, and the ambiance of the cafe, reflects that small town comfort- that has a way of making you feel right at home. The food is well prepared, hot and flavorful. I was honestly surprised how fast our service was and how very little wait time was involved, getting the food to the table. My companion and I had ordered a variety of items from the menu; myself was delighted with the corn beef hash *recommended* however, anytime I see "Fried Green Tomatoes" on any menu, I immediately must order myself some, as this is easily one of my favorite dishes. And let me tell you, this dish was NO disappointment. SUPER tasty, the tomatoes where No over fried or soggy- they came out rightly cooked and served with some in house made pimento cheese. I love Canopy Road. This is one of the best places to get brunch period. This location is tucked away in the Southwood area. It's a great location. My wife and I find ourselves here often. The omelets are amazing. I usually get the Jamaican omelet (cheese, chicken, jalapeños, onion, green/red pepper) and it is fantastic. One of the best omelets I've had anywhere. I've also tried The Abner. This comes with two chicken biscuits (biscuit, cheese, honey butter) and your choice of hash browns or home fries (either are very good). These sandwiches are great. One of my favorite breakfast sandwiches in town. The lunch is also fantastic. I've had the Dagwood (club sandwich with turkey, ham, cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato). It is huge! Plenty of food for the price. The onion rings are top notch and so are the waffle fries. The Breakfast Burger is also great. It comes with egg, bacon, ham, cheese, and burger. It is very good. I would highly suggest any of the items I mentioned above, but I'm sure anything from Canopy is delicious. If you haven't been here before, I would highly suggest that you give this place a shot. We are pretty much regulars here. When we go for breakfast, I get The Special (kinda standard American breakfast) and for lunch my fav is the Summertime Salad. I've had their gluten-free pancakes and gluten-free toast and they are awesome. Sinfully delicious is their cinnamon roll (not gluten-free... Shhh!), but worth the side effects I get from gluten. My husband loves to try the seasonal specials and has never been disappointed. All the servers have been excellent and we've never had a problem. Highly recommend! The good: the bacon and home fries were good. The bacon is "pecan" smoked if I recall and had good flavor. The home fries were nothing special but good. Coffee was hot. The bad: my two scrambled eggs probably weren't two and were really overcooked and dry. The biscuits and gravy were as underwhelming as I've ever had. Dry, hard & tasteless biscuits covered in a ton of tasteless "sausage" gravy. Pretty sure it is just canned gravy just being warmed up. Just not very tasty at all. One of the worst biscuits & gravy I've ever had. If you're going to serve something like that just take it off the menu. Granted maybe other things they serve are better but my experience was I'd never be very interested in coming back. read more

Well what a change. When the restaurant is not busy it is a nice establishment. Today there was a buzz obviously it is the morning and it is a breakfast place. The owner/or manager, the older large man who wears a blue shirt, can not handle the stress of the busy hours, we watched him fill 2 tables that came in after us. We told him that we had a dog and that we needed to be sat outside. But we stood there as he filled the tables and was not offered coffee or anything. Finally our buzzer goes off but we were confused because we can see there were no empty tables. That is finally when he acknowledges us, he said he remembered us because we had a dog. At this point we had been waiting for an hour and are hangry. It is obvious that everyone outside was just starting this meal. So we left and told him we couldn't wait another hour and he told us to go to McDonald's. If you do end up going on a rainy empty day just beware he will be extremely fake and extra nice.
