Well what a change. When the restaurant is not busy it is a nice establishment. Today there was a buzz obviously it is the morning and it is a breakfast place. The owner/or manager, the older large man who wears a blue shirt, can not handle the stress of the busy hours, we watched him fill 2 tables that came in after us. We told him that we had a dog and that we needed to be sat outside. But we stood there as he filled the tables and was not offered coffee or anything. Finally our buzzer goes off but we were confused because we can see there were no empty tables. That is finally when he acknowledges us, he said he remembered us because we had a dog. At this point we had been waiting for an hour and are hangry. It is obvious that everyone outside was just starting this meal. So we left and told him we couldn't wait another hour and he told us to go to McDonald's. If you do end up going on a rainy empty day just beware he will be extremely fake and extra nice. Had brunch on Saturday. It was difficult getting anyone to acknowledge us- we waited 15 minutes for that. After our drinks we waited another 10 minutes to have our order taken. The food was horrible. I had a Mexican omelette that was full of burnt, cold chorizo and had 2 little pieces of tomato. The only thing hot was the potatoes. While visiting in Southwood in Tallahassee, we were looking for a nearby breakfast cafe open on Sunday. We found the Canopy Road Cafe And had a wonderful experience there. We enjoy an outdoor table with a nearby heater for the chilly morning. Jake, our server, was spot on and our omelette and eggs over corned beef hash and home fries were delicious.Don't miss the homemade biscuits. Food came out fast and Jake was very attentive with more coffee. Overall, we couldn't have been more pleased. read more

Food here is consistently good (I get the same thing literally every time). I get the vegan skillet, the spices are on point and the flavors are good. Today I got the croissant French toast which was really good too. It's pretty eggy and has cinnamon and whipped cream, real tasty. I usually put hot sauce on stuff (like skillets) and I've come across some bottles that are kinda funky, either crusty or really old and have gone bad but I've been there so many times I think most of the gross ones are gone now. It's not a big deal to me and the rest of the place is clean so I'm not worried about food safety. read more

This is my favorite location of Canopy road! It is small but if you go at the right day or time it is not busy! I love their breakfast skillets. Each one comes with a great amount of food. I always add on a single special pancake because they all sound delicious. Their specials are always unique! Coffee is decent. The cinnamon roll pancake and Bebe skillet are so yummy! This place serves a solid breakfast! Even you are not a breakfast person, this place will make you seriously reconsider making breakfast a priority. I have only been here a handful of times over the years but each time the quality has been top notch. I ordered the chicken fried steak with two eggs over easy, home fries and rye toast. just now Dear Canopy Road Cafe - I hope management see's this so they know how incredibly disappointed I was in the service I received yesterday at breakfast. First of all you guys weren't even busy at 8am. My wife and I were seated by the hostess (a very nice older gentleman) and I sat there for 12 mins... no water.... no coffee, but you have one of your staff members cleaning a table beside us, does not even check to see if we need anything. I use to serve in Tallahassee before I got my state job so I try to be patient but eventually I end up having to go inside and ask for service. There's no excuses when you aren't busy. It's just laziness and bad management. Sure, the waitress finally makes it to our table - she apologizes. Fine. We ordered. I had the Canopy Road special 2 eggs over medium with hash browns and bacon, and wheat toast. Meh. My eggs halfway busted, still over cooked and the hash Browns where flavorless. My wife got the avocado toast. She was happy, and the view sitting outside was beautiful so that's the only reason I'm giving 2 stars. Next time I want breakfast I'll take my girl to Kool Beanz. This is our go to breakfast place in Tallahassee. Over the last five years or so we have enjoyed canopy road meals every time. My favorite is 3 eggs over medium hash browns and chicken Cajun sausage. The eggs are alway hot and cooked perfectly. Their hash browns are rustic chopped and cooked in frier to golden brown perfection. The Cajun chicken sausage has nice hot spice combined w the chicken for a mouth watering result. Last visit I tried a roger skillet. It was made on a bed of the epic potato hash browns. Then diced green peppers and white onions are sautéed with corned beef than this mixture is covered with Swiss. To finish the dish it is covered with three eggs of your choice. Very delicious and satisfying. My son had the chicken fried steak skillet. His order was built on a base of home fries with a huge chicken fried cube steak then it is covered in sausage gravy. Truly good. We have also had the gyro sandwich which was amazing too. Nice interior with barn wood log contrast walls which hang paintings of canopy roads around town. Also outside seating. This was my first time at this Canopy location and I was very impressed. I've never been to this part of Tallahassee and was so delighted. The whole community is new and well kept, a picture perfect family community. We came late Sunday morning, assuming there would be a pretty long wait but surprisingly they sat us quickly. The inside was much smaller than I imagined but so cute & clean. This was definitely the nicest location I've been to. The food was great, as expected with every canopy. I got one of their skillets and was so full I had to take some home. The server was sweet and attentive. An older man, possibly manager, came around and made sure all of the tables were happy and offered coffee refills. I really appreciated this, it made the experience feel very homey and friendly. My only complaint is the Coffee, I wish they had flavors you could add, or whip cream, or anything besides plain coffee. read more

This is a new location to a well loved Tallahassee breakfast chain. I have been here twice now with slightly varied experiences. Since this location is in Southwood I am able to go with my coworkers during lunch, which is awesome because there aren't many options close to some of the state agencies on the east side of town. Both times we went we arrived around 11am during the weekdays and had no wait. The place is small but clean and adorable with cute blue chairs and the same menu as the other locations. So far there has been no 'specials' menu like at other locations, but it has the same good food on their regular menu and it has so many options that you won't be disappointed. Everything was great, but the service the first time we went was not good. Our latest visit today made up for it by having a full attentive staff who always made sure our coffees were overly full. I'll attribute the first time experience to opening week kinks that they are working out. Overall it is a great experience and a wonderful break from your workday! read more

This is a great restaurant for breakfast if you have extra money, want a quaint atmosphere, and do not have children with you. Their food is good, but I feel like the prices are a little high for what they offer. The kids meals are quite pricey and do not include a drink. Our waitress came to the table and asked my 2 year old if he wanted juice, and naturally he said yes. What I did not realize until I got the bill was that the drink is not included in the kids meal, and it was almost $3 for my child to have apple juice. While that was a great way for her to "up-sell" and bump the check total, it was sticker shock to me. Like I said, the food is good and the atmosphere is great, but I likely will not return with my kids--it would be more of a mom's morning out for brunch type of thing. read more

Tried this place out for lunch because it was close. I ordered a chef salad and added tomatoes. My salad came with tomatoes but had shredded cheese and Swiss cheese and no cucumbers or carrots. We had high hopes entering this restaurant and I am thoroughly disappointed in every interaction we had with the staff. Pleasant enough customer service until we discovered a black hair in the food. We were extremely polite about the incident and we were told "I will half it since I like you". Then when the check came there were extra charges so she went up to have it taken off. The manager proceeded to say "it was your hair", "all the cooks are wearing hats", and just a genuine disrespectful interaction. When in fact the kitchen is in view and one of the cooks had mid back length hair exposed. We were then heckled from across the room "you shouldn't laugh you are supposed to be faking sick" from the manager. Horrible experience at this place. The staff were all rude and had attitudes. Our server probably said 3 words to us and didn't check to see if our meals were okay. I had the biscuits and gravy and they came out cold. I had to flag down another server to tell her, she took it and put it in the microwave for 2 minutes so they were still cold when they came back. They forgot my toast and when I mentioned it to the other server she came back with a plate of bread. It wasn't toasted it was just bread. No one checked on us throughout the meal. My family and I went to this Canopy Road Cafe for my daughter's birthday recently, granted it was pretty busy on a Sunday morning but we were told our wait would be around 30 minutes which turned into 90 minutes and we had 3 small children and an adult with Parkinson's which made it very unpleaseant, we considered leaving but by then it was late in the morning and we would would have had to go through the process again somewhere else. We had spoken to the manager after about an hour and explaining how the young children were getting restless and he said "Well you probably should not have brought them" , overall there was not a friendly atmosphere from anyone that worked there, they all seemed stressed and uptight. The food was at best mediocre and barely warm. We will definitely not be returning to Canopy Road Cafe on Merchant's Way. read more

My two stars is completely due to the waitstaff. I've had trouble twice at the Southwood location, because of this last time I will not be returning to this location. First, after the waitress took our orders we didn't see her again until she brought out our food, leaving us with empty water glasses and coffee mugs. When she brought our food, with help, she mixed up my order with the table next to us and she didn't bring everyone's food. She did not ask if we had everything and we did not. She did not realize it. We had to call her back over after she took another table's order. My food was cold and I had ask for it to be heated up. The manger did eventually bring over our missing food, including half of my meal. No one apologized or seemed to care that they had ruined our meal. There are other canopy road locations. When my replacement pancakes came the chef that claims to be a master chef gave me them with burnt chocolate on the bottoms Normally wouldn't have bothered me but they were supposed to be plain pancakes. Went here this morning with my daughter for her birthday. She had wanted to try it. We sat outside because it was a nice morning. We were there around 8:30 it wasn't busy, I had read that you needed to be there early as it would be busy. Our waitress was terrific her name was Gabaiel, she was very attentive and made sure everything was perfect. I had the chicken fried steak which was awesome I know have a favorite place to get it. My daughter had the half order of the Floridian French toast, when I arrived I looked at it like "if that's the half I'd hate to see the whole". She said it was great and took the rest home.
