I really wanted to like Cantina Louie. The inside is actually beautiful--the wall art is stunning, the space feels clean, and it definitely gives "this is about to be good" energy when you walk in. But the experience just didn't match the vibe. Service was slow, and not in the cozy, take-your-time way--more in the "is anyone coming back to our table?" way. And to make things worse, my friend found a hair in her food, which instantly took us out of the moment. Mistakes happen, but it definitely colored the rest of the meal. As for the food... the presentation looked great, but everything tasted pretty bland. The flavors just didn't hit like you'd expect from a place that looks this fun and lively. Overall, the aesthetics are doing all the heavy lifting here. It's a gorgeous spot, but the food and service need some love before I'd come back.

Never been here and we really enjoyed the vibe and bright colors. Marg's were very reasonably price and delicious. Our meal was flautas and empanadas. Well prepared and delivered timely. Jose, our wait staff, was very helpful and friendly.

Taco Tuesday

There are several of these in the Jacksonville area. It had an interesting vibe of skulls and skeletons. We were seated right away and our server came quickly to get our drink order. Specialty cocktails are discounted on Tuesday's if that matters to you. Beware the iced tea is not brewed, it is bag in a box soda style tea. I really don't like that stuff. I had the tacos, $2.99 each on Tuesday which makes 3 specialty tacos cheaper than the plate with 2 tacos even after I added a side of beans. I chose the sirrachi shrimp, mahi and grouper tacos. Everything was fried. I expected the shrimp and grouper would be but mahi is usually grilled. They were all very good. Each had a unique flavor and garnish. Nothing traditional about any of them. Overall I thought if you want a hipster environment with non traditional choices of food this place is great. If you are in the mood for traditional Mexican food.. "This ain't that".

I really enjoyed this place! I got carryout from here first and went with the cantina quesadilla which were yummy. My second time enjoying it here was dine in on a Thursday. They have different daily specials, Thursdays are $6.99 jalapeño margaritas and they were good! The enchiladas supreme were tasty, you get a combination of 3 enchiladas filled with different things, rice, and beans. The mahi taco honestly was not good, the fish seemed over cooked and the flavor just wasn't there. I was really hoping to get some mexican street corn, however that is only available on Saturdays and Sundays so I will just have to come back to try that! Our server was very sweet and repeated the orders back to us to ensure she got it correct. The food came out quickly and hot. The patio had 6-7 tables as well as ample seating inside. I will be returning when I'm craving mexican food!

I've always loved Cantina Louie's! However, I wasn't impressed with the tamales. They lacked flavor in my opinion.

It was great! They have outdoor seating, fast service and great food! The bathrooms weren't cleaned as well as they should, but the food was great! I've been to other locations and it gives the same level of service and food!

I love that atmosphere.I love the decoration, colorful and pretty. They seated us right away. We ordered our drinks to come back and ordered our food. I got a margarita that was served quickly. Everything came out and was great!

I do want margaritas and queso!

Go to Cantina Louie for delicious food, drinks and bar service from Pilar. Everyone we met was friendly and the service was fantastic. Lots of flavor in the food and the drinks making this a spot to revisit soon! I recommend the burrito bowl.

03/2024 Popped in here for dinner & drinks while staying at a nearby hotel. Food & drinks were good. Husband & I sat at the bar. Bartender was nice. Enjoyed friendly convos with her as well as other customers at the bar. Chill vibes. Decor is very cool! I would visit again while in the area.

I always love coming here whenever I visit Jacksonville, Florida. It's the best! The atmosphere is really nice. The staff and service is pretty quick. There is nice wherever you sit.there are no bad seats! We always enjoy the food. It's very very good.

When I say this is my mom's favorite restaurant, I genuinely mean it. The queso dip, the tacos, the fajitas--everything is delicious. My favorite go-to dish is the California steak burrito smothered in that delicious creamy cheese sauce--a weekend treat with Mexican street corn as a side. Usually, I have the corn for dessert. :) The inside is colorful and fun. It's definitely a place to check out.

I dropped in for lunch on my day off, and opted to sit on the patio since the weather was decent. To my surprise, there's a 9.99 lunch special with two tacos and rice and beans. I chose the special with a small cup of queso for dipping. Service was a little slow for me, but it could've been because I was outside and not in my servers line of sight. My food was good and the portion was perfect for lunch.

Quessabirria tacos
Michael S.

I ordered the Quesabirria tacos which were fantastic. The thing that really set this experience apart was our server. He made sure that I knew it was pork, which is something I've never had a server do before. He then made sure that I was ok with cilantro. I thought that his mindfulness of possible dietary issues was beyond considerate.

$4.99 frozen margarita very strong!

Man, it was one of the best decisions I've made on the road lately! The food came out hot and fresh with that real homemade taste. The tacos were packed with flavor, the rice and beans were on point, and the portions were generous enough to fill up a hungry driver without breaking the bank. I went with the carne asada and it hit the spot perfectly - seasoned just right, not too greasy, and cooked tender. Service was quick and friendly, even when they were busy. The place has that classic hole-in-the-wall vibe (in the best way), nothing fancy but clean and welcoming. It felt like the kind of authentic spot locals would keep coming back to. Only reason it's not 5 stars is the parking can be a little tight for a big rig if you're not careful, and they don't have a ton of truck-friendly seating space. But the food more than makes up for it. If you're rolling through the area and craving real Mexican food, definitely stop in. I'll be back next time I'm in the neighborhood. ¡Muy bueno! -- Carlos, SemiTruckDriver

Like I don't know if it wasn't mixed well, or they heavy handed it, but I wasn't mad about it at all. The steak tacos were delicious and very flavorful. I'd get these again and again in heartbeat. Service at the bar was great. Food arrived faster than expected, but I had also got there as their night was winding down. My friends and I were originally going to eat here for Cinco de Mayo, but when I got there at 6:45, I was told it would be a 3.5 hour wait. They had a DJ outside pumping out fast and upbeat music for the party and an outside margarita stand for grab and go drinks. When I arrived back just after 9, I had told them to take us off the list. She informed me that they tried calling me. Nothing came through on my phone, but she did show her call log and sure enough, it showed they called me around 8:20. My friends and I probably would have stayed to eat here originally had we been given a more realistic wait time guesstimate. An hour and a half wait vs 3.5 hours is much more feasible. Oh well. I'm sure I'll be back in the future. I've always enjoyed Anejo.

First off we ordered steak burritos- paid extra... the meat was literally STEW meat- not steak! It was so disgusting. Secondly, the ground beef tacos tasted good until you realized how crusty the meat was- as if it had been sitting ALL DAY in a bin! And lastly the nachos were exactly the same crusty old chicken meat!! We ordered pretty much every meat there and all was DISGUSTING and we had to throw out because meat sitting around all day can't be healthy! My recommendation is to NOT come here for the food!

The 30% off code - LOVETACOS - is good on the entire menu on Taco Tuesdays. The deal & code are advertised on a window poster you'll notice as you walk up in addition to another poster advertising a great lunch deal available. I ordered the Shrimp Tacos (corn tortillas, lettuce, breaded fried shrimp, chipotle mayo, and cilantro) minus pico & they were great. The shrimp were freshly fried and steaming hot. I had to wait a bit because a large catering order was being finished as I arrived. The manager offered me a free Jarritos and apologized profusely for my wait. I took it as a good sign that their tacos are that popular plus it gave me time to enjoy the gorgeous murals by ARTBYJAE. I visited the Baymeadows location (open until 3am Fri/Sat & 1am Sun-Th) & they now have a second location on Parental Home Rd (open until 1am Fri/Sat & 11pm Sun-Th).

The floors were sticky and our shoes stuck to the floor. The women's restroom was out of order. The kiosks seem like a good idea but nobody there to ask questions or to get your drinks. If you can catch one of the two people working as they bring out orders you are lucky. The menus on the kiosks are pretty informative though and tell the ingredients for each item. Kiosk automatically adds 20% tip unless you change it. Considering you don't have any interaction with employees until they bring out your order other tipping options might apply. They cook to order which is nice except you don't get your drinks or your appetizers until it's your turn. There is a comment section to type no tomatoes or special instructions. Mine still came out with tomatoes but they promptly remade it for me. The food is pretty good. No complaints there other than having to remake one of my tacos. The chips and queso was pretty good. Chips were dusted with spices and served hot. We tried 6 different tacos and they were all very good. The tortillas were toasted on the grill which makes a big difference. You can get flour or corn tortillas. The chicken and steak were marinated before grilling and were big cubes and plentiful. The menu has a pretty big variety including a kids menu with chicken and fries. The last comment is their fountain machine for drinks. The coke tasted off. They may need to recalibrate it. Drinks are served in small clear throw away cups and the lids don't fit very well. Refills are hard to get. You have to wait for someone to come out of the back. If these small complaints don't bother you the food is very good.
