This particular Salsas Cocina is in a huge shopping plaza, so parking will not be an issue. Salsa Cocina is a small chain of Mexican restaurants and for the most part, is a decent enough choice for Mexican food. The service here was friendly enough and the restaurant has a pleasant enough ambiance and vibe. The menu does not stray far from the usual items offered on a menu in your standard Mexican restaurant, but that is not an issue. These are beloved items and rightfully so. When we arrived we were seated right away, they brought out chips and salsa, the salsa barely covered the bottom of the bowl, the waitress came over and took our drink orders. They had football on every channel and I asked if she could change the channel so we could watch a different game she said yes, came backed asked again what channel, then never changed it or gave an update as to why. I have a bad allergy to Bell Peppers and always have to ask about what has peppers in it. I wanted Fajitas and they were able to remove them so I could order them without peppers. This happened tonight. On the MENU & on the DOOR, it states, "Parties of 6 or more receive an auto-gratuity of 18%". We had 5 in our party and we noticed this auto-gratuity of 18%-- why? My friend asked the Manager and she said we were mistaken and it was 5 or more...we then got a menu and showed her, she then said it's on the door where we again pointed out THEY were mistaken...unreal. We are good tippers, everyone starts at 20% for us but this was not OK and certainly not how you treat your customers. We won't be back & that's a shame because we do like the food & drinks but to be so bold as to lie to our faces like that is wild. Maybe it would have helped (a little) if our server mentioned something but she didn't even bring it to our attention, we just happened to notice when our cards were returned! Enjoyed a lovely Saturday here on the front patio. The service from Gervin was attentive and excellent so I appreciate him for that. The food was filling and super tasty. To be honest, today was all about the drinks rather than the food, though the taquitos were delicious. We were doing our weekly walk but I wanted to checkout the new big box that opened so we switched up our walked route. The big box store was cool but my friend couldn't pass by Salsa's without a margarita, one turned to a giant and we ended up calling a friend. As we were walking we figured drinks were ok but the more the merrier. They don't hold back on the alcohol, it's not one of those places you feel like you got a Virgin drink, it was so worth it. Salsas is a staple for us with Mexican food. We love the service from the friendly staff and are always open to try all the new items. Went in for lunch at 1:30. It was slow. I had to wait several minutes for anyone to acknowledge me. After I was seated, the server finally approached and I already had read the entire menu and ordered (ironically) a Speedy Gonzalez. The food came out and it was good. The salsa and chips were very good. I finished my meal, stacked my dishes, wiped the table, and read my entire days' email. No sign of the server. I went to the front register and stood there a few minutes and she finally came to ring up my bill. Service is horrible, non-existent but the food is good. I come here very often 3-4 times a week because I loveee they're frozen margaritas I've been coming here for MONTHS! They offer indoor or outdoor seating, although technically in the Lowes parking lot. The ambiance inside is nice with nice decor. Salsas Cocina River City is actually a pretty good Mexican restaurant in North Jacksonville. The food is very flavorful and the drinks are really nice. Serving sizes are good and the prices are reasonable. There really isn't a huge difference than most Mexican restaurants except that on Friday they have live music which is always a good time, so if you want to get out with your friends or significant other, I would say this is cool place to be for dinner on the weekend. read more

Had dinner at Salsas Cocina and the food was delicious. I will admit I was a little worried because of some of the reviews, but better to do your own research, and it was definitely worth it. I ordered the mix fajita which included chicken and steak. It came with 3 tortillas, rice, beans, lettuce, pico and guac My husband ordered the appetizer chicken quesadilla which came with guac salad (basically a scoops of guac on a bed of lettuce). We were given chips and salsa as soon as we were seated. The chips were fresh and the salsa was perfect for us (not spicy at all). My fajita dinner was spot on. More than enough fixings and it was delicious. My husband thought his chicken quesadilla was excellent as well. The atmosphere in the restaurant was cool and the paintings on the wall were impressive. They did offer 10% off your dinner entree for military (and of course they deducted it from my husbands entree, even though I'm the veteran, but I didn't say anything). Overall very good food, affordable, and pretty good service (with a smile). My mom has been raving about this spot for quite some time since she knows I love Mexican, so I told her that during my next visit from California, I would love to give it a try. My mom got her usual, a chicken quesadilla, and when she tried my taquitos, she said that would be her new favorite order. It breaks my heart to share the poor experience we had at this location today. We'd been here 6-8 months prior and loved it. The food quality to price ratio was fantastic. We were craving Mexican food today so Salsas it was. However, the experience went down hill quickly: 1) Like others have recently shared, there is a sign on the front door saying in so few words that if you don't like what you order, you're stuck with it. Against better judgement and relying on our last visit, we took out chances anyways 2) On this locations FB page, they show the lunch menu is offered Monday through Saturday until 3pm. We had lunch at 1120am on a Saturday so well within the lunch time. However, we were only given a dinner menu where the prices were $2-$3 greater with no change in food offered, just the time of day. 3) The real kicker was the rice we were served. I've had Mexican rice with carrot chunks in it before so no big deal. However, I've never had Mexican rice with Lima beans, green beans, and peas before! I hate green beans. Why would I ask if there were green beans in the Mexican rice if I've never seen that before!?!? God forbid I question or complain based on the sign out front. 4) Ambiance was standard for the type of food served (there you go Yelp, I talked about ambiance). We won't be back. We thought we had a great go-to Mexican joint but not anymore. We called in and placed an order for pickup today, November 3, around 4pm. The total was $10 more than we expected. I asked for an itemized receipt when I picked it up and the prices were different than the advertised menu prices on their website. I asked the girl that was helping me if there was anything she could do to help remedy that price or if there was a manager there. She first said that I was looking at the lunch menu when I wasn't. Then she said that those menus should have been updated to reflect the correct prices. Then she said that there was no manager there and the best she could do was make the queso the correct price. Our subtotal should have been $41.50 instead it was $51.50. At the end of the day, it's just $10 but it's the principle of your advertised prices we're wrong and that should have been remedied.
