This place is an absolute joke. You have to be one of those completely unaware Porsche owners to actually take your car here and let them actually work on it. The guy tries to give me some BS price on a transmission in which my car didn't need. He was trying to say $10K, and I'm like buddy, it's $1500 for a rebuilt. Then he said, well I got to pay my bills, and this place is expensive monthly. Like I care about your bills. If you're a bad mechanic that can only make money off scans and oil changes then I don't think you should be able to pay your bills honestly speaking and you should go out of business. Also how I found out what was actually wrong with my car was by replacing my battery. Then purchasing a $300 Durametric device, I was then able to use it to scan the car for codes. The Durametric gave me the codes on my laptop. I then used an AI to help me read the codes and clear the low voltage errors. I then test drove the car for 30 minutes and to no surprise I didn't have a transmission problem, and it was really a low voltage problem because of the old battery. Now, in conclusion this guy is an absolute However on the bright side, I now have the confidence to open up my own Porsche shop and charge people 9 grand to each person instead of 10. This place is in fact a joke, ZERO stars (as I had to waste time and gas to get there... and it's not even worth that to go here). read more

I rarely write reviews, however, having read a couple of winging reviews below I felt compelled to do so here. After a $1,000+ CDI (ignition) replacement at Mission Auto Aliso Viejo on my collector 1983 911 SC resulting in an undrivable car I enquired with members of the Porsche Club of America OC chapter for recommendations, Cape Auto was a consistent reliable name. Cape explained there were several possible causes for such a problem and they would give the systems a look over and call me. Brittaney called to recommend they needed a couple of hours labor to go through it in more detail as I appeared to also have a broken head stud which was serious and added to the original problem. James Buck, the owner of Cape Auto enquired what my long term intention was for the car - "it's definitely a keeper having owned it since 1985 and honeymooned in it". He then provided two options. a). A minimal fix, and b). Options for 'factory' upgraded components to do with known mechanical reliability (upgraded head studs, oil system, timing chain & tensioner, etc.) The engine out strip-down exposed two more about fail head studs, not the worsed problem considering under fine inspection one of the floating timing chain tensioner arms was fractured, it was only a matter of time before a total engine loss would have occurred. Wanting to avoid another engine-out job at a later date we did the upgrades and rebuilt the head. The 911 is running better than I can ever recall in my 35 years of ownership. I stopped by cape Auto Repair a few months ago and had a pleasant experience and talked to Britney and to my amazement she was so knowledgeable about the Porsche my head was spinning I asked her if she was born in one or does she sleep in one So I was impressed and couldn't wait to have her service my car But she was so booked that I had to go on a wait list of full month But I had the car towed to them for a simple "smog" as I had a check engine light on and I had it scanned and I knew "exactly" what the issue was and I called her and told her exactly what the check engine light is And she told me two hours! So I'm thinking two hours to kill the check engine light and pass the smogs So she called me two days later to say Yeah you're looking at $10,000.00 to fix all the issues with the car And they changed me 2 hours $250.00 to give me EXACTLY what I told them 1st they told me I need tires lol THE TIRES WERE "NEW" with less than 20 miles on them 2nd they found metals fragments on the oil filter I had the car towed to my mechanic immediately ASAP and told me NOTHING NO METAL PARTICLES FOUND And charged me another $230.00 I should have known they are full of you know what when they told me I need NEW tires and I shouldn't drive on them lol Oh and I need bricks and that I KNEW as you hear them grinding BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT I ASKED THEM TO DO! I asked them to smog the car AbedY abedy that's all folks AND NOTHING MORE! absolutely nothing more just a smog NOTHING MORE a simple smog And I called Britney and told her The car is being towed to them from another repair shop WITH THE FULL RESULTS OF THE COMPUTER SCAN IN DETAIL And they charged me two hours for everything I told them lol are you serious? On two separate occasions I stopped in to Cape. The first time I needed a small repair to my rear light. Despite all of the excellent mechanical reviews, I am not impressed with their customer service. We are looking to purchase a 1988 Porsche 928 which we know is complicated and expensive to repair. It needed a major timing belt and water pump service. Contacted Cape Auto to get a ball-park cost for these items that I could factor into the offer on the car. What I got was a detailed explanation on how the owner should bring the car in for a $500 pre-sale Inspection (which was not practical). Using internet searches, I was able to get a rough idea of the service cost and factored that into our offer. If we purchase the car, I will find another shop to do the TB/WP and other service and repair items. read more

I can't say enough great things about Cape Auto Repair. My VW Passat was having a brake warning light coming on and after speaking with dealerships and other mechanics, I chose Cape since they actually have a good knowledge of German cars and were super friendly on the phone. Wow, am I glad I did. It was a very minor problem that James fixed right away. He was completely honest and that's very hard to find in a mechanic these days. Great auto repair shop. They provide the same excellent quality repairs on my 2007 Porsche C4S as dealerships, at a fraction of the cost. This is a quality repair shop without the extra costs like champagne while you wait for your car. They've been working on oil changes & other car repairs for me for 3 years. My right window wasn't closing all the way when I close my soft top. James reset the computer function in 3 minutes, for FREE. He could have charged $500 for a new solenoid, but he didn't. I've recently been very disappointed. James is a nice guy. But I brought my Porsche 996 in to fix a window regulator on July 2, 2015. In late October 2015 (five months later) I was having the same problems. During the summer I moved to Tustin and brought the car to a different Porsche service place to fix the window. The new place told me that the window regulator previously used to fix the door was a Chinese part. I was told that it probably costs $50.00 for the part. But I was charged $274.00 for the part back in July! That is not honest and I am very disappointed and I think others should know that Cape Auto apparently installs Chinese parts in cars and charges full price for them. read more

I had taken my car to Cape Auto in the past and received good service. This time however the service and result was not good. The only issue I brought my car in for was not fixed, not resolved. They did find a few other issues they said needed to be fixed, I trusted them to fix those. When I brought to their attention they said they could fix the issue for another fee. read more
