So this review is for their catering trays! The portions for their catering trays are HUGE at this location. You really get the most bang for your buck at this location. We learned the hard way that not all the locations serve the same size (different owners) but still charge $75 per tray across the board... Other locations will give you 1/2 the size. Moving forward we'll only trust this location whenever we need party trays! So if you're going to cater from a Capital location, come here! You won't regret it. read more

I came in for lunch recently by myself. It was just a quick lunch experience. They serve a variety of Asian cuisine. They have dim sum, teriyaki chicken, orange chicken, Korean style. I tried the HK Style Chow Fun and a green iced tea. It was very good. A huge portion of food! The tea was not too sweet. If you want it sweet, they bring a bottle of simple syrup to the table. Came on a Saturday afternoon, and left with a full stomach, and a happy face! I went with one of my best friends after an event on a 90+ degree day and hadn't eaten anything. Dim sum + Asian food always sound great, so we Yelped to find Capital Noodle Bar just a few minutes away - just our luck! They are located in the "Village at La Floresta" plaza in the corner. We arrived and were seated right away. We got settled at our cozy table. I love the open airy concept with their big window glass and industrial/wooden furniture pieces. They even have an outdoor patio seating area with shades to block the sun if you want to sit outside. Our hostess/server gave us time to take our order, and brought us our food in a jiffy. She was so friendly and helpful. She made sure we were able to get our dishes not so heavily spiced, as my friend is sensitive to spicy food, and that I had my spicy sauce on the side so we were both happy. Our shareables were the HK Style Chow Fun with Chicken, Capital's Filet Mignon Cubes, Spicy Garlic Chicken Wings, and the Fried Garlic Calamari. My favorite was the Chicken Wings, they had a great "cronch" to them and were seasoned very well. If you like garlic, you'll like these chicken wings! The HK Style Chow Fun was great as well and bonus points for the mushrooms because my friend and I are both mushroom lovers. Needless to say, I had a wonderful time here and will definitely keep Capital Noodle Bar in mind the next time I'm in the Brea area. We've given it 3 shots before writing this updated review because we love Capital's frozen dumplings. This last time we stopped in with 3 adults and 3 little kids of which one is 3 years old. Beware that this constitutes 6+ and gratuity is automatically included. Also beware that the auto gratuity is already selected when checking out AGAIN and you have to opt out of ADDITIONAL automatic gratuity. To which I didn't know that as she said it was already included, so the assumption is that it is the automatic gratuity-- it is not. They refunded the second amount 2 days later after requested. We also ordered a wonton soup with extra wonton. Both came very delayed from our other tow dishes and independent of each other-- so after we were already finished with the other food the wonton soup came out and then extra wontons. It really would have been nice to have all our wontons for the wonton noodle soup at once. It is just so hit or miss, that for the price of the food, sadly it isn't worth it. read more

I read the reviews and I ordered the Haina brown chicken and the girl didn't know what I was talking about. They don't have it only what on the menu. Needless to say I ordered the fried one because I wanted the dark meat. The shredded meat was white meat. The reviews said it was dry. The fried one is dry too. It's bit Hainan chicken to me. Also I asked for extra sauce that cost 2.00 more and when we got home the sauce came out of the container... The filet mignon was okay not as good as other places. The HK style crispy noodle was okay too the fried shrimp roll would have been better if it came with some sweet chili sauce to dip. For the area the food was decent but definitely may not comeback any time soon. Update: In response to the owner to me. I read a review to ask for the brown chicken Hainan. So I did thewhat the owner suggested I do it I wanted Hainan chicken with bones and she came back and told me they only offer the shredded white chicken or fried Hainan chicken which is thigh. The food was pretty good. They only had pork dumplings and my kids prefer chicken so they didn't love the ones they tried. They had plain noodle soup and ate some chicken potstickers. We were seated right away and the ambiance is nice. Tables are long rectangles so not as convenient for family style as round tables but I get that they save space. We passed food back and forth when serving ourselves so everyone could get what they needed (we had a party of 8). I was fine with the chow fun and other noodles. The juicy pork dumplings were decent but I don't know if I would get them again. They are like XLB and there wasn't as much flavor as other places I've tried. I think the chicken potstickers were okay as well. The noodle wrapper was quite thick and they were pan fried but already soft when they came out as if they had sat there instead of being crispy. I was pleasantly surprised to stumble across a good Chinese restaurant near one of my OC offices. Capital Noodle Bar is a descendant of Kim Tar Restaurant, and it definitely reminded me of Chinese food I had growing up in Southern California. I really like their Hong Kong style chow mein with beef. Their noodles are really crispy and the flavour of the dish was spot on. I also had their yeung chow fried rice, which was also really good. For drinks, I had their milk tea, which unfortunately does not have boba. The prices are also reasonable. The interior of the restaurant pays homage to the Kim Tar restaurant in Chinatown. The staff here is also really nice. I am surprised the locations are focused on Orange County. Huge disappointment from the dinner take out last night (7/18/25). We were frequent customers (1-2 per week) because they have great variety of noodles and we love almost all of them. However, last night's meal was completely off; both the taste and quality of the food. We ordered the HK style crispy noodles, HK style chow fun and Pad Thai. None of them met our expectations compared to the other times we had ordered; especially the Pad Thai. They all sticked together when we opened the box and since we had ordered the dish multiple times before, we know it was not supposed to be like that. Then the taste was off; it tasted like they didn't use bad oil and had that weird taste. I hope this was just an exception or maybe they got a new chef? My love/hate relationship with Capital Noodle: The good: * The food is genuinely great. We really haven't had a bad thing. Top recommendation is the HK Noodles, CRISPY Hainan Chicken (MY FAVORITE) and the Filet Mignon cubes is my mom's favorite. They have pickled chilis and plenty of chili oil at every table. All their sauces taste home made, hot, and fresh. When I am craving Capital Noodle, there's nothing else that can satisfy. * Place is relatively clean. Atmosphere is open. My wife says it's always cold in there. It's a great place for date night or for larger gatherings. * You DO get what you pay for. Prices range from $15-$28 a plate but it's worth it. The bad: * The service is either non-existent or just plain bad. We have gone here MANY times over the last few years and it's always the same. None of the servers care about you or care to engage you in conversation. They don't ask you if you have any questions nor make suggestions. They rarely, if ever, check in on you. We are almost never walked to our table, but instead, always told to go "sit at that table over there". * It's never really clear where we pay. We often go so long without anyone checking in on us that we get up to the counter and pay. This last time, I had to ask for the check for someone to come to the table. There is no standard for service here and you can tell. Verdict: * Service is half the battle when dining in restaurants. If the service isn't there, the food better be AMAZING for me to come back. There are a few restaurants I won't go back to due to the service. Because the food is so good here, I do come back. It's worth it for that Crispy Hainan and HK Noodles. At first glance, Capital Noodle Bar has a modern interior and a good ambiance. The service was pretty good and the seating decently comfortable. Unfortunately, the food did not meet expectations. We ordered two lunch special items: the Mongolian beef and the orange chicken. When they first came out, I was a bit disappointed to see that they basically filled one of the sections of the bento with frozen corn/veg. Next, the cooked broccoli was cold with salad dressing (why not use fresh salad instead?). The pickled cucumber bites, the rice, and the proteins were pretty good, but as a whole, the lunch specials were a bit disappointing. The fried sweet buns with condensed milk were just the right amount of crispy and yummy, but the chicken buns, on the other hand, were over steamed and somewhat soggy. This used to be one of our go to places to eat. The food is usually great. But the last few times we've gone the service has been lacking. Today we went in for lunch. My husband and I were only the 3rd group there. We were there for 40 minutes and they hadn't even brought us water. After the 4th group arrived and they got drinks and appetizers and we had still yet to get water we got up and left. We went there for dinner. The food was ok, but the service was not that good. We had no water and they never bothered to refill or even come around and ask. When I paid I was told that they automatically added gratuity to the bill. I don't think these people understand the concept of tipping. They probably never looked it up so I will educate them: tipping is a voluntary action from the customer if they want to show some appreciation for the server going the extra mile to make their experience exceptional. Came on a Saturday around 7:30ish. Waited for about a min for any server to acknowledge us. place wasn't fully packed either. Most guests were finishing up their food. We sat at a table in the back of the room. The table was pretty clean n orderly. this place is known for their noodles. Since I was a noodle guy, I got their Capital Bowl. the size of the bowl was pretty decent. They gave you generous amout of rice noodles. the bowl came with the usual ingredients (fish cake, shrimps, etc) BUT one was missing n it was the fish ball. I thought it was just purely coincidental that they missed it but we ordered 2 capital bowls n both didn't come w fish balls. what gives?? Not a big issue. However, one big issue I did have was the saltiness of the soup and possibly saltiness for their dishes in general. we also ordered a Five Spice beef stew. flavor was good. The beef was tender but again salty. It was so salty that I finished my water and I drank more when I got home. I know most restaurants want to have savory taste/flavor but that was too much. Both dishes weren't bad only if you could overlook the saltiness of it. Servers also needed to be more attentive. read more

The initial opening menu seemed to be geared more towards an Americanized customer base (individual servings, price, fusion) so I didn't want to go back. But now, I think this might be my "go to" for Chinese food, more than noodle street! I'm grew up on Sam Woo in the city of industry, always ordering the HK style crispy chow mien with beef. Unfortunately Sam Woo no longer exists, but Capital Noodle Bar is up to par in taste, texture, temperature, portion, and price! The portions are definitely not individual sized. We also ordered the string beans and Singaporean vermicelli stir fry. Both excellent as well! And the variety of meats/veggies is great in both quantity and quality, whereas noodle street is like 90% noodle and 10% meat and veggies. I've been to the Costa Mesa location a while back and saw that they had one in Brea. It felt a lot smaller than the CM location. It felt like they were also understaffed when we arrived because it took a while to put in our order. Food takes a while to come out but our server let us know beforehand. We tried a couple of their dishes: Captial Street Noodle, Spicy Fried Rice with Sausage, Siu Mai, Har Gow, Juicy Pork Dumplings, and Spicy Wontons.
