After checking in with the hostess, she informed me it would be about 30 minutes, but it was actually only a couple. The restaurant opened up another area of the restaurant to accommodate all the guests. Unlike other dim sum restaurants we've been to, this restaurant utilizes a full color menu and ordering sheet. I'm typically use to dim sum carts roaming around bumping my chair as they navigate the dining room. It was entertaining to watch the staff organize and arrange the to go orders. Some of those orders were huge! The dim sum was amazing! Full of flavor and freshly made. It may not come out in the order you like, but regardless you can tell it's fresh. Anything and everything is so good, I'm mean great tasting! The hostess is absolutely amazing as well. She handled everyone checking in, organizing and arranging to go orders, assisting the servers, cleaning tables, and processing checks. We come here for dim sum on a regular basis but won't be back because they charged us for $1.95 for tea and hot sauce even though we specifically told them we wanted neither. When we told the manager we didn't get tea or hot sauce, he told us it didn't matter, everyone gets charged for tea/hot sauce. I'm not going to pay for something I never got. read more

Perfect spot to get a solid dim sum fix in the area! Establishment - the moment you walk through the glass double doors, you're greeted by a host or hostess. I went at around noon on a weekday with four other people and were seated right away. Dining area is very comfortable with spacious seating. Booths line the wall on the opposite end of the restaurant, and there are private party rooms as well. Cleanliness says a lot about a place, and one can tell that it's well cleaned and maintained. Service - this is the area where I needed to take a star away. Immediately after being seated, the host or hostess sets menus down for the table (or so I observed with all other parties that were seated around us). Our hostess was distracted by something and ended up walking off with our menus. That's fine, however it took us much longer than it should have taken to get anyone's attention to get a menu. We also asked three different staff members for an extra set of silverware before anyone brought it over. I understand that it may take time when it's busy, however I also watched them take care of smaller parties almost instantaneously, so I'm not quite sure if they just kept forgetting or if there was miscommunication of some kind. Aside from that, food came out very quickly and fresh and people were friendly. Food! Quality dim sum. We ordered a lot of things, but three of them stuck out to me the most. Chicken in sticky rice - aromatic, is the first word that comes to mind when you unwrap it from the leaves they're blanketed in, and it's just as flavorful. We also ordered a dish of something I'd call a 'deconstructed Hong Kong stir fry noodle', where the flat noodles used for the original dish are rolled up, cooked in the same sauce, and has a very light crunch from being lightly pan fried. The almond flavored milk with the almond puff topper was also something I've never seen or had before, and I highly recommend it if you want something light and sweet to end your meal with. On Christmas evening, we had guests from up north, and the sister-in-law planned this dinner at Capital Seafood. I've never been here for dinner, but felt the food was done exceptionally well, especially their fish and lobster, which they are know for. The Peking Duck had the traditional sweet bun and was savory, as other restaurants in the valley. The 12 course dinner was filling, and had such a nice pace, well except for the dessert. To compensate for the lateness of the otherwise perfect dinner, they threw in red bean dessert, which was well received. Can't say I'm a dim sum expert, but I've been to all the local ones people love, including some small ones. I'll say seating inside is actually pretty clean and it's not as chaotic as, say, 888 or that one spot on Rosemead near target. They use large shrimps in their dishes, which I think says a lot about the quality. We've had this place for dinner, and it's pretty great too. Price point during pandemic and whatnot is still decent. They get busy though, even with take out orders, so plan accordingly. Went to this place expecting a typical dim sum restaurant, I was pleasantly surprised! Although they do t have the "dim sum carts" to deliver food, you have to check off what you want. I got the claw part of the lobster and when I ate it, it is still raw. I asked the server if it is edible, only got a confused face and an "ok" as response. What does that even mean? What a wonderful Chinese restaurant. I had the pork dumplings and they were nearly perfect. I bit into one, and the broth came pouring out. It was so unctuous. I had a chicken dish, which leads me to one issue. I prefer dark meat chicken for most Chinese dishes as the meat is much more flavorful and juicy. I wish I could have chosen that. Came here for a Saturday morning. We have been here before and the food is great. Every time I walk in here I have low expectations on service because that's not what this place does. They don't mean to be rude but they just are. I asked for water 3 times and never got it. They gave us the wrong dish and when we corrected them they got upset. Not surprised. This time I decided not to give them a tip. Didn't think they would care since they give no service anyways. As we were outside of the restaurant getting in our car one of the workers ran up to my wife and kids demanding a tip. Unreal!!! This is the closest restaurant that offers dim sum around the area that I know of. I think it may be because of that that they mark their prices up. What's usually 3-4 dollars in Alhambra is at least 5 dollars here. It's not like the usual dim sum service where they walk around with carts, rather, you get a menu and mark down your selections. In a way, I appreciate this more since you can get what you want faster than waiting for the lady with the cart to do a whole circle around the restaurant before they can get to your table .. especially when you're really hungry. So far I've tried the chive and shrimp dumpling, shrimp rice noodle, taro and shrimp egg rolls, dried scallops with egg white fried rice (I add shrimp for an additional fee, which I find is worth it), egg tart, and almond milk with puff pastry dessert. I think these are all delicious. Their chili oil isn't the typical spicy one, theirs has garlic and isn't spicy at all, but it is very tasty and I favor it more than the typical spicy chili oil. The dim sum is served daily until 2pm. On the weekends it gets pretty packed starting around 11, if you come when they first open though there's no problem. When it comes to dim sum in the Pasadena area, I have always been partial to Lunasia in Pasadena. I went to Capital Seafood in Arcadia for the first time today. I've been to the one down in Irvine a number of times, but this place is better than that and better than Lunasia. We had shumai, shrimp wrapped in rice ball, Taiwanese spring rolls, cha shiu, rice wrapped in lotus leaf, sesame ball desert, chicken feet, and a couple other things I've probably forgotten. We came here not planning to eat lobster, but the waiter really pushed us to eat lobster because he said it had just come in that afternoon and was very fresh. So we agreed on a "small lobster". Then he came back to the table with a much larger lobster. When I asked the price, he said "$32" not $32 per pound. The lobster proved to be surprisingly tough and lacked flavor. At this place you order what you want and everything get served at the table while other places they have the dim sum carts going around from table to table. This is a more upscale, large Cantonese restaurant able to accommodate small and large groups. Late morning on a Saturday, there was no line and our large group was seated quickly. Service with a smile is non-existent here. The servers are all business and are only attentive when placing orders or when serving dim sum. Otherwise, it was difficult to get assistance. tl;dr: Pretty much the same as the other locations as far as dim sum is concerned. Maybe a little more conveniently located overall but expect to pay a little more for it... **** We came for the dim sum... Like it brethren in Irvine, I never took a complete liking to the dim sum from Capital Seafood; there isn't anything wrong short of it being less than rave worthy. That being said there were some pluses coming to this particular location... There was virtually no wait to park or to get in on a recent Saturday at 115pm. Maybe it was due to the hot weather or maybe it was just dumb luck. More likely that there were a couple of events that happen to be going on at the same time like the 626 Night Market nearby, or that it was the middle weekend of DineLA. For us, we were headed to the Nordstrom half-yearly sale at Santa Anita and we were not confident that we could get in the new Din Tai Fung at said mall without a long wait (and later we would find out that was pretty much dead on)... Newer and more tidy in general compared to some of the older dim sum places in the SGV, it is never-the-less a little more removed from the rest at this location. Forget about the nostalgic push carts here at CS, they've been using tally lists to order from day one. They also charge for the tea here so none of that old-school crap either (*sigh*). At least they have table cloths at lunch time but I don't think the napkins were linen... We finally show a little (more) restraint when it came to ordering. We ordered siu mai but no haw gow. We got the fried turnip (low bok gow) but not the rice noodles (cheung fun) we almost always order. We did order the (pan fried) rice noodle with XO sauce instead and enjoyed that, it had lots of garlicky flavor to it. All of this is fine, but again pretty standard, even boring. When we were leaving we saw someone else ordering the Almond souffle and I wished I had remembered that they even offered it... For a high-end Cantonese seafood dinner, you could do a lot worse than Capital Seafood. We hosted a big family dinner here and while it was pricey, I was really impressed by the quality of the seafood. Capital Seafood is higher end than most Chinese seafood restaurants. It's reflected in their prices but also in the ambiance and service. The decor inside is freshly remodeled and quite tastefully done. The waitstaff will refill your teacup if it is bordering on empty. The only real hitch was that ordering was massively confusing. Our waiter kept leaving every time we tried to order a dish to either check on its availability, or bring a fish to show us, or inquire about this that or the other. I wish he had just stayed put and took down our requests and handled his inquiries in one fell swoop at the end. We started off right with the Wintermelon Soup served in a whole wintermelon. It's an impressive looking dish with a whole steamed wintermelon that's filled with a rich broth, lots of scallops, ham, and tender chunks of wintermelon. Our other favorites were the Steamed Halibut. The fish was very fresh and tender and the seasoned soy sauce was perfect. The Geoduck was prepared 2 ways - one raw in a cold salad with scallions and dressed with sesame oil and the other deep fried with a tasty salt and pepper seasoning. The cold salad was really good and you have to like sesame oil and the fried geoduck was addictively good. We also ordered a variety of other dishes. Gailan vegetable with fried dried fish, sauteed pea sprouts, sauteed beef and they were all good as well. I'd come again if I wanted a fancy seafood meal. read more

We thought we struck luck when we got assigned a private room, alas that wasn't the story. Our orders didn't come completely, we had to remind them many many times that we haven't gotten the shiu mai from the first order. Again, when the shiu mai arrived, they gave us 2 baskets, but one was blank, only one filled with 4 shiu mai. It took us 30-45minutes to eat the whole meal, but added to that, it took us one hour waiting for the food to arrive. I loved the fact that you have to order stuff, instead of Hongkong style dimsum with the people pushing the trays, but if I have to wait one hour for every order I placed, I would rather have the pushing trays coming around to feed me. I was craving dim sum when I came here and my friend suggested this place. By the time I walked out the door, my dim sum satisfaction wasn't fulfilled and the time was already over 2pm. Whenever we come here, it's just for the Dim Sum. It's local and decent, especially if you're running late in the day and all the smaller places in Alhambra and Monterey Park are already packed. There are no carts buzzing around, but service has always been quick after we order. It does tend to get busy around 11am on weekends, which leads to a line waiting outside, so we always try to get there before that time. The food hits that yummy umami feeling every time. Everything is cooked-to-order fresh and served piping hot! Beware the hot soup dumplings and let them cool before eating, it's like lava in the mouth. We love the traditional stuff but we haven't gotten into the chicken feet yet. Not sure we could really be swayed into that. Aside from preferring the majority of the shrimp and the rice noodle items, we really like the sweet BBQ bun. We had just 1 leftover that we took home and later reheated. We did have a bit of spicy mustard that we dabbed onto it, and it still gave us the happy savory bun feeling. I'm not crazy about their sausage roll. It's essentially a hot dog with the sweet bun wrapped around it. The dough wasn't really cooked in the middle (the part closest to the hot dog). I wanted to keep the menu through the meal to order more, but every time I ordered another dish, the hovering manager would try to take the menu away (literally take it out of my hands). after the 2rd time I had to be a lil snappy and tell him that I wanted to keep the menu until I asked for the check. Nothing was terrible, but only the sesame balls were above average ... there are just so many other better and cheaper dim sum options. Make the drive to Monterey Park area, its worth it. This is an okay place for dim sum. The shu mai is my favorite and I get it at every dim sum place I visit, and the one here is just mediocre and kind of dry. The roasted duck, another one of my favorites, lacked in flavor and was pretty mediocre as well. There's usually a long-ish wait during brunch time. This place has the order sheet that you give to your server (as opposed to servers pushing dishes around on carts).
