Parking: Plenty in the back at this time. The front has parking as well. When we were there, a blackout occurred, but the staff reassured us we were okay. I need to confess something to you: I love Chinese food. However, it wasn't until the last few years where I've come to realize the distinctions between Hong Kong cuisine and mainland Chinese cuisine. It's been an exploration. But with each new Hong Kong style restaurant I try, the more expansive my view, and belly, get. Alice's Kitchen, specifically this one in Temple City, was a refreshing look at not just the food but the vibe as well. Design - Falling into a different world Walking into Alice's Kitchen from the back parking lot is like walking into a vibrant food court back in the 1980s. Bright neon signs are placed throughout the dining room floor, faux food stalls can be seen to give more of a community feel to the inside, and I love the sprawl of different props of newspapers, t-shirts hung on clotheslines, and big advertisements on the walls like you might see in a food court. It really elevated the atmosphere of the space and I loved their branded orange plates, bowls, spoons, and chopsticks. It gave whimsy to this place. Staff - Cool The staff here are like what you expect from any Chinese restaurant. You try to flag one down or grab their attention with your wandering eyes and when they come over you can tell them what you want. They take your order and usually within 5-7 minutes you'll start to see your food heading your way. Perfect for anyone hungry and dying to eat right away. When you ask for to-go boxes at the end of the meal (you definitely will) moments after you get your food packed someone will appear with a tablet ready for you to pay right there at the table. Talk about speed. Food - Onions galore I see that in Hong Kong cuisine there is this mix match of Western and Chinese tastes put together. This fusion of ideas is what brings something like their large pineapple bun sandwiches to existence. We got the BBQ pork (char siu) pineapple bun sandwich and this came warm with a fried egg, slab of butter, generous slices of BBQ pork, and a savory sauce. For one person, this could be a good main dish to be accompanied by a side. For this split between two people, this is a savory sweet dish perfect to wet the appetite. Highly recommend getting one of these. The sweet & sour pork was nostalgic to me. Served with chunks of white onion, green peppers, and pineapple the flavor of this reminded me very much of the sweet & sour pork Chinese-Korean restaurants serve, except for the color being different and no cabbage in the sauce. It has the sweetness brought out by the pineapple but still a bit of tang and deep savoriness of the pork with each bite. The onions were undercooked and you'll see this as a pattern for all their dishes containing onions. The French style filet mignon chunks were fantastic. Juicy and flavorful, each bite makes the mouth water more and more and the texture gave such pleasant mouth feels. The fried basil accompanying it also gave a burst of freshness and herbacious flavors. Just be careful not to accidentally bite into a chunk of ginger. Unless you love ginger. Then go right ahead. The beef chow fun with black bean sauce was great. Nice balance of their black bean sauce with the textures of the chunks of beef, the onions and peppers in this add a nice crunch and difference in flavor that balances all the savoriness. The tofu with spiced salt was also incredible. When I ate this still piping hot the crisp exterior with the hot soft interior made me smile. The spiced coating was flavorful and with some rice it gives a nice balance with each bite. Final Thoughts With all the food we got for dinner, I'm sure I leaned more into the Chinese cuisine side than the Hong Kong side. However, I was happy with the quality and depth of flavors in everything I had. Alice's Kitchen has definitely been one of the better Hong Kong restaurants I've had and I'm excited to explore more of this cuisine in the future. Can't wait to come back! read more

My boyfriend wanted baked pork chop, so we came here. I've never been to Hong Kong so I don't know what it looks like. But when I walked in, it felt like I could've been in Hong Kong. Not as cheesy tasting as other places I've had it at, which is a good thing for me. In general, I think the baked pork chop with rice is better, since I feel the rice absorbs the flavor more. Had a great experience at Alice Kitchen for a family-style dinner. We made a reservation in advance for their 8-10 person set menu ($438), and it was definitely worth it. Just tried Alice Kitchen and it was fantastic. We ordered the seafood tofu hotpot, Hong Kong style stir fried spare ribs, and their most popular potato filet mignon cubes with house sauce. I had a crispy fish sandwich set that comes with hot milk tea and was absolutely blown away by how simple, yet delicious it was. The fish was crispy and light. The batter itself packed a good amount of seasoning and the sandwich even had tartar sauce and mayo. The creamy sauces worked well with the fish and enhanced the filet. Finally tried this Alice Kitchen in Temple City! Last time I was in town, it was a Wednesday and they were closed. We were lucky and found street parking close by on a Friday evening around 7:45. The decor is very cute and really made me feel like I was in Hong Kong where I grew up. The restaurant is very spacious with a lot of tables with reasonable spacing. I used to really like the Alice Kitchen in Monterey Park but was disappointed that they decided to get rid of all the wok fried items on the menu. So this time I decided to try my old favorites in this location. The two of us ordered a Beef Chow Fun, a Singapore Style Vermicelli, and a Congee with Fish Fillet. Food was good and satisfying. The congee was had good texture and came with a generous amount of fish fillets. The Beef Chow Fun was very tasty and the beef was tender. The Singapore Style Vermicelli came with a lot of shrimps, eggs, and BBQ pork. Unfortunately the shrimps were not totally fresh. I've been to the Alice's Kitchen in Rosemead a few times since that's where I reside. This was the first time at the Temple City location. It's much more spacious. There are a lot of fun decorations that give it a true 90s Hong Kong Experience. I came here with a group of friends (7 of us) from my running group. We were seated quickly. There were many large tables available to accommodate groups. Once we ordered, the food came relatively quickly. The winning dish has to be the Filet Mignon with Mushroom and XO sauce. The meat was super tender and saucy - perfect over a bed of rice. I ordered the Beef Chow fun. A classic Hong Kong Cantonese dish. I thought it was ok. I had ordered before at the Alice's Kitchen in Rosemead, and I thought it was good - a little disappointed, that this dish was lacking during my visit. I assume they didn't use enough soy sauce. Our main server was this older lady. She was so rude. My friends were talking to her in Cantonese, and she seemed so bothered and snappy; like in true Hong Kong Cantonese fashion. She wasn't patient with our orders, she legit would walk away if we took a bit too long to respond and then come back and ask ---"so what is it that you want?" It felt like any other HK cafes, but the tables were just your basic round tables and chairs, nothing too fancy. I came here yesterday for lunch with my parents and ended up being really impressed. Alice's Kitchen might just be the best Hong Kong-style cafe in the SGV. We ordered the baked pork chop over pasta with tomato sauce and cheese, salt and pepper squid and wings, and the salted crispy pork knuckle. Everything was delicious. The baked pork chop was comforting and flavorful with a nice balance of sauce and cheese. The squid and wings were crispy, well-seasoned, and perfect for sharing. The pork knuckle was the standout for me. Super crispy on the outside and still juicy inside. That said, the portions are a bit on the smaller side compared to places like Delicious Food Corner and some other HK cafes, especially given how good the food is. Service was amazing because they kept coming over to refill our drinks and asked if we needed anything else. For drinks, I got the iced lemon tea, which was refreshing and not overly sweet. My dad ordered the iced milk tea and coffee and enjoyed both. Solid HK cafe drinks that pair well with the food. The ambiance is a big plus. The neon lights, wall art, and street scene paintings really make it feel like you are back in Hong Kong. It does get a little loud during lunchtime, but we were still able to have a normal conversation without raising our voices. Parking can be challenging during lunch hours, but with a bit of patience, we were able to find free street parking because the free public lot fills up quickly. This is my favorite Hong Kong cafe in the SGV. All their dishes I have had here has what you call wok hay (in Cantonese it means their wok is hot enough so you can taste it in the cooking). Contrary to their Monterey Park location this one is so much better in my opinion. My go to dish here is the preserved veggie and beef chow mein. I was on a binge for tomato beef chow mein trying to find the best one in the SGV but got tired of how sweet the dish is. The preserved veggie beef chow mein is like their order brother. Not as sweet but more savory with a hint of sweetness. I have tried a number of dishes here and would recommend every item here. Nothing has disappointed me in my 10+ visits here in the past 5 months. They are opened late and I pass by going home from the gym. You can park on the street in the front or they have parking in the back as well. Like any other cafe service can be a hit or miss but once you order the food comes out pretty quickly. They have a Yelp waitlist as well that moves pretty quickly. The restaurant is decorated with HK decor so it is very trendy and has things to see. read more

I ordered from the Chinese breakfast section and got the Pork & Perserved Egg Congee ($13.75) with the Chinese donut. These breakfast combos comes with drinks. My boyfriend got their iced Milk Tea and I got the iced Lemon Tea. The food took foreverrrrr to come out. Surprisingly slow for a Hong Kong café. And when it came out the portion doesn't look as large as other Hong Kong cafes. It was also weird because we thought my boyfriend's food would have the eggs, protein of choice, and toast together... but for some reason they threw the meat inside the noodle soup. The macaroni was a weirdly large size and shape and the broth was bland. It was all weird. My congee was a smaller portion than other places. This is my goto order so I have a lot of point of reference. Flavor was okay but it would have benefited from some ginger. Also the Chinese donut was oily and stale. Not sure if it's old or they fried it in some old oil, but it wasn't good. We had to waive staff down for the bill and even ask multiple times until we got it. We tried 2 new dishes today, Pan Fried Beef Udon with Black Pepper and Baked Pork Chop in Tomato Sauce. Both were delicious. Noise level was loud but service was outstanding. The iced milk tea was on point this time. We will be back to try more food on the menu. read more

We went there on Sunday around 10:45 a.m. and had to wait about half an hour for a table. I chose this restaurant because they offer Hong Kong-style cart noodles, but it was a big disappointment -- nothing like what I expected. We also tried two stir-fried dishes, but both lacked flavor and wok hei. Maybe it's related to their name "Original Taste," because everything really tasted quite plain. The milk tea wasn't rich or fragrant enough, and the iced milk tea was almost undrinkable. The service was average, with no smiles from the staff. Expect a wait if you're going for brunch on a weekend! Would recommend to check in at the ipad at the back of the restaurant and pay attention to which letter/number youre assigned to since there were overlapping numbers which I assume is based on party size (ex M9 vs J9) I tried the steak plate with choice of eggs (scrambled, sunny side up, etc) and pineapple bun. Nothing stood out particularly with the pineapple bun, but the steak was super tender and juicy. It came with a drink (tea, coffee,etc). I got the lemon ice tea and its already sweetened. There's street parking as well as parking at the back of the restaurant. The interior and dishes matched the vibe which transports you to hong kong. It was vibrant and lively. read more
