I've been wanting to check out Momo for quite some time now, I keep reading good reviews on SGV Eats. I came across their 'Star Student' promo on Instagram and thought why not?! Both my teens are straight A students and they love shabu! We invited another family with us, who also has a star student of their own. I also love that they take online reservations, it's very convenient. We were a party of 8, 5 adults and 3 teens. We sat at two tables of 4, right next to each other. I love their large portions of meat slices, it's so rare for AYCE. I wish they had a large selection of veggies, sides and sauces. Their unlimited drinks for $3.55 was a good value too. I've been to Mo-Mo Paradise a handful of times, and it's always been pretty good. This time, we came with a reservation for 11 people and were seated once everyone in our party arrived. The meat selection is fairly small, with only about five different types of beef and pork to choose from. The vegetables and sauce bar are all self-serve, so you'll need to head up and grab everything yourself. The biggest highlight is definitely the quality of the meat. Compared to a lot of other AYCE hot pot places, the meat here is noticeably better. It's well-marbled, tender, and delicious. The vegetables and other sides were fresh and good as well. I'd say the sauce bar is decent, I've been to plenty of other AYCE spots with a much larger selection, but this one gets the job done. Overall, the food is good, and I usually come here for special occasions. It's a little more expensive than other AYCE hot pot restaurants, but I think the higher-quality meat makes it worth the extra cost. If you're planning to visit, I'd recommend making a reservation since the wait for walk-ins can get pretty long. Parking: Easy. There's a large parking lot with plenty of spaces. read more

Mo Mo Paradise has always been my favorite AYCE hotpot place in Southern California. I've been to a few different locations throughout Socal, yet surprisingly this was my first time at the Arcadia location. I was lucky enough to snag a same-day reservation at dinner time for a party of five. It gets busy so I always recommend getting a reservation online. Parking is easy. There is a parking structure behind the restaurant. There aren't any big signs pointing to it so keep an eye out for a side street opening into a small parking garage. As always, the soups are very flavorful and the meats are always tender and delicious. They allow you to select two soups per pot and I always get a sukiyaki. I love that it comes with poached raw eggs too. I always get the beefs and they always hit so good. My favorite is the wagyu beef curry. It is soooo good and I always get multiple plates of it. Now, the reason why I gave this place 3/5 stars today is unfortunately due to the service. I usually have such a great time at the other Mo Mo Paradise locations I have been to, but unfortunately I felt extremely rushed during this visit. For the majority of our visit, we had a great time. But when we ordered our third round of meats, we found out that we had missed our "Last Call" time and only had 10 minutes left to sit. Our server had unfortunately forgotten to tell us when our "Last Call" was and did not ask us if we wanted to order anything else. This was so disappointing, since I felt like we had barely ordered any meats at this point. Feels bad, especially considering we spent $250+ for this meal. They did give us ice cream, but during these last 10 minutes, the server kept coming to our table saying - "you only have 7 minutes left... you only have 4 minutes left... etc." I was rushing to eat my ice cream so fast. At one point, the server started clearing our plates and our pots while we were finishing our meal. I remember eating a carrot and the server almost pulled the plate from me as I took a bite :( She said she would come back in a minute... The server seemed to be guilt tripping us a little bit too :// She kept telling us that the next party was waiting for our specific table, but I found that to be weird because the empty table behind us could seat six but they weren't in any rush to finish cleaning that other table for some reason. My friends and I usually come out of Mo Mo Paradise so full and happy, but we just had a sour taste left in our mouth because of they rushing us. We also were unable to eat to our hearts' content :( It was weird, when I left the restaurant there really only seemed to be about five people waiting too... Just not sure what was going on that day but it was Memorial Day weekend... maybe they were understaffed or something... This was a really disappointing experience because of this. Our kiddo is a shabu shabu aficionado and loves them all but this place by far has become her favorite and I must say mine as well. What stands out to us is the elevated level of cleanliness, detail, product, utensils, food quality... the list goes on. The hostess was very friendly and welcoming despite the huge crowd that had arrived before us for lunch. The server was equally as smiley and helpful and explained how it all worked. We had not been to a Japanese shabu shabu and it was amazing. They had the most delicious curry I've had in a while as part of their self serve appetizer and veggie bar. First time eating at Mo Mo's. We reserved our table in advance in case there's a wait. On a Wednesday at 6:30pm, they weren't very busy which was good. Our server was pretty attentive and brought the meats out fast. Please note their tip starts at 18%. Ambiance was pretty good, with low chatters and spacious seats. Restroom was clean too. The veggie bar was adequate but did run out of items at times with no refills. They charge for drinks now except hot water, hot tea, and iced water (that comes from the soda fountain). Their meat quality is pretty good, specifically the eye of round and chuck eye. However, after a few rounds, the quality of the eye of round dropped significantly and turned tough to chew. This is my second time here. Quite disappointed. Food: Everything tasted fine. The meats were thicker cuts. The vegetable bar looked very unsanitary. Everything was easily mixed together. Mushrooms were in the cabbage bin, kale were found in the tofu bins etc. The curry + rice tasted good. The soups were okay, but they were definitely lacking flavor. While eating the meats, I found a piece of plastic buried within the cuts. It was pretty disturbing on top of everything else. Drinks: The sodas tasted fine. I tried the Tokyo melon and cola. They were sweet and refreshing. Service: Our server was kind, but it seems like they're pretty understaffed. She was extremely busy, and we would have a hard time flagging her. She was speed walking back and forth most of the time. Parking: There's a free parking lot in the back of the plaza. Lots of space. Overall: Make sure you have a reservation. Came here with parents since we haven't ate hotpot in a while and didn't know what to eat. We came on a weekday for dinner so it wasn't crowded. However, I still made a reservation online since I saw a few reviews mentioned reserving ahead of time to mininize wait time. Luckily, it wasn't full when we arrived so the reservation wasn't actually needed but it did get more full later in the night so a reservation would be helpful if you plan to eat later at night during the peak times and especially during the weekends. Anyhow, we were seated quickly and got a table with two stoves and we could use both for four people. I got the Shabu Shabu and Sukiyaki broths while my parents got the Shabu Shabu and Tomato. And we got the Momo experience since it has a good assortment of meats. Our server was friendly in explaining the menu and had pretty fast service. Once we ordered the meat, they were served quickly too which was nice so you didn't have to wait long in between. The meat quality was pretty good but we noticed that the quality for the Chuck Eye got worse towards the end of our meal even though it started off really good. Not sure if that was on purpose or just a bad batch of beef but it was disappointing since it wasn't as tender and was tough to chew so I couldn't eat some of it. The broths were also pretty good. The Sukiyaki is a bit salty if you let the veggies and meat sit inside for too long so warning about that, but it was flavorful enough to not dip in sauces. I liked the Shabu Shabu more since it is more clear and not strong. Also, they have a drink section for unlimited drinks if you pay extra which I didn't opt for but they do let you order free hot tea or hot water unless you want cold water then it is at the soda fountain. Sad that they now charge for drinks. They also have a self-serve veggie bar which has decent amount of veggies and other hotpot ingredients but it is a smaller variety compared to some other all you can eat hotpots I have been to. They also have free ice cream at the end of the meal which is just 1 scoop of the flavors they have available. Nothing special. Overall, this is decent hotpot choice if you like Japanese style hotpot. The meat quality is okay but doesn't seem consistent on each platter. Also not many veggies to choose from. My first time at momo & wow, it is sooo DELICIOUS! They have a variety of sides you can freely grab & also a make your own sauce/grab your own drinks on the side. I love the choice of choosing between different broths. My side of the table ordered sukiyaki & tonkotsu broth. Sukiyaki is a sweeter, savory broth while tonkotsu is a creamy pork bone broth. I do prefer the tonkotsu because it match my taste buds more, but the sweeter broth was a great change and they give you broth water on the side if flavor is too strong or your soup evaporates. The sauces they offer blends so nicely with the meat. They also gives you a raw egg go stir and dip with your meat the japanese way. It's become a tradition to celebrate New Year's Eve dinner at Mo Mo Paradise with my in-laws, and this year was our first time visiting the Arcadia location. We had a 6:30pm reservation and were seated shortly after arriving, which was much appreciated on a busy NYE evening. The restaurant itself is spacious and clean, with ample free parking in the parking structure (huge plus!). Mel was our server and she was absolutely fantastic. She was friendly, attentive, and somehow managing five tables at once without missing a beat. She cleared our table promptly and stayed on top of taking and checking in on our order the entire time. You could tell she really cared about providing great service, even during a rush. Weekend dinner is $38.99/pp. You can also add the non-alcoholic drink bar for $3.55 per person, featuring sodas, teas, juices, boba, adzuki beans, and coffee jelly. They even have fresh kale! Adrianna is the BEST server - she took the time to explain the menu, was so pleasant, and always had a smile on her face regardless of how busy she was. The restaurant has a 90 minute policy and they start the clock once they seat you. It's all you can eat but drinks are extra. There's no fish or seafood option. Only beef and pork. Been to Mo-Mo a few times now (as well as many other AYCE hot pot places,) and IMO, what makes Mo-Mo unique is that the include drinks in the price of the meal and they also offer a beef curry that you can eat on top of rice. I'm not a big fan of the ponzu sauce nor sesame dipping sauces and you have to ask for soy sauce but the dipping sauce profiles are definitely more Japanese than Chinese if you're familiar with the nuances. What sets this place apart is they also offer unlimited drinks (milk tea, tea, and fountain drinks) for a small additional cost of $3.55 I have had this spot recommended so many times by family, and it did not disappoint. The broth, especially Sukiyaki was SO flavorful and sweet-- it really complimented the beef. My boyfriend enjoyed the high quality of the cuts of meat. Service was really attentive, and our server made sure to check up frequently but not frequent enough to the point of being overbearing. Make sure to get a reservation as it was easier to dine in that way, than previous attempts of walk in and not being seated. There is a 90 minute time limit which they are pretty strict on! The restaurant has a smaller footprint compared to other typical shabu shabu places. The dining area was spotless and well-organized, creating a relaxed environment that made settling in easy. The staff were friendly and accommodating, checking in just enough to be attentive without feeling intrusive. Our party of four sampled three different broths, tonkotsu, shabu shabu, and sukiyaki. While the broths were overall average, the sukiyaki was a slight letdown; despite its rich, dark color from the mirin, it was surprisingly mild in flavor. That said, the true stars of the meal were the fresh ingredients and the meat. Ordering meat was quick and seamless, with no delays, and the selection and quality were well above average for an all-you-can-eat restaurant at this price point. In additional to typical veggies, fish balls, tofu items, they have both udon and ramen noodle. They also have a nice pot of Japanese curry to go with the short grain rice. My teenager was especially delighted by the self-serve drink station and happily went back for seconds on the matcha latte. After spending time simmering meats and vegetables in hot broth, the ice cream at the end of the meal was a refreshing finishing touch. The 90-minute dining window felt more than adequate to truly worth the price tag. We never felt rushed and had plenty of time to enjoy multiple rounds of food. The beef is some of the best you'll find. The really unique item that I can't find at other hotpot places is, their broth. It is really rich and flavorful. Their service is always speedy and courteous - this is important for an AYCE hotpot place that requires you to reorder your meats through the servers. The price is a little higher than other AYCE hotpot places, but it is more than worth it for the quality of the beef and the broth. Only small, small item to nitpick about is, the tongs at their veggies/ramen buffet station are not very good at picking up the food, you have to try a few times to get a sizeable plate of veggies. And, the ramen servings are very small. My kids usually have to get 3 or 4 each in just one run to the buffet station. But, these are the only very small issues I have with MoMo. For the quality, price point and experience, I've always been happy with my visits to mo mo paradise. There is a table near one of the back walls on the right side of the restaurant that offers great privacy, my family loves to enjoy our meals there and we can easily hear each other and catch up. My parents have limited mobility, so taking them somewhere where the food is also easy access for them and seating comfortable are two big factors about whether we will be coming back. We are regulars now. I'm very happy with the quality and selection, weekday lunch visits are always my favorite times I've visited. Staff was friendly and helpful. Menu has very easy to choose selections and descriptions on how to eat so it's pretty cool even for newcomers. I chose the sukiyaki and tonkotsu. Started with every meat they have for Momo option which is the only one you can choose from lunch special option. It was amazing. Highly recommend that you make reservations because it does get busy. Very family-friendly service. The meats were so good. My favorite was the pork shoulder. We decided on the chucke eye, short plate, and the kurobota pork should which was quite good. As for the soup based, they offered Shabu - Shabu, Sukiyaki, Tonkatsu, and tomato. You can split the pot and choose 2 types of soup. We decided on the shabu shabu (kombu and bonito) and sukiyaki. Thought it was flavorful. I liked it more than the sweet and savory taste profile of the sukiyaki. Farmer's Market: Had some of the usual suspects that I normally have at other shabu places. I loaded up on the cabbage and pumpkin. The kale was a surprise, because I never seen it being offered as part of their veggie selections. I consumed a good amount of that also. The curry with wagyu beef was amazing. I probably had 4 or 5 helps of that. :) As for the sauces, I didn't really try any of them. Just looked a little depressing. Mo Mo Paradise: Thought the meat quality was good, but wished they had more of a seafood section besides the fish balls, and a dessert section. They did offer ice cream though. Have to say they have the best meat among most hotpot places in the area. This place won't tempt you with sauce bar or fried/snack bar and other things because you totally will be happy just staying put on your table: the meat, ponzu, goma, and broth is enough to keep you happy. Make sure you order ahead, because it seems they are a bit underhanded. Order at least 1.5x more than you think, so you don't have to wait for the next order. Place is comfortable and nicely crowded without getting too noisy. They also have the best selection of drinks (though it will cost you an extra $3.5). I do wish they have their amazing miso broth like they have in other countries. That will easily add two more stars for me, despite the rather slow service. read more
