We had afternoon here yesterday for my mother in law's birthday. We loved every moment. Since it is a smaller tea room, you get a lot of attention. The owner spent a lot of time explaining all the various teas. I loved that we each could get a different type of tea and when we wanted a new pot we could choose another tea. The food was delicious! I stopped in on a Sunday while antiquing with some friends. I had never been there before and wanted to look at the loose tea selection. The tea is way behind the counter up on high shelves so I asked to see the menu. Before I had a chance to look at it, the owner/manager was asking me what I wanted. I was looking for a Green-White tea blend. They looked at me like I had asked for something exotic, told me they didn't have anything like that and then asked me where I had had it before. I told them Daz Bog, which is a coffee house and they just dismissed me like I didn't know what I was talking about. I will never be back. I don't know if they were overwhelmed by the Gingerbread party that was going on, or if this is the type of service they give potential customers but I thought they were pretty rude. The concept of this restaurant is great. Unfortunately the attitude of the owner leaves a real bad taste in your mouth. The sandwiches are nice, not great. The side salad is disappointing. The tea is enjoyable as well as the desserts. But when there is not a friendly greeting to start the meal, it is all down hill from there. I went back a couple of days ago for lunch. I ordered the egg salad sandwich, a pot of tea...I think it was called Yunnan (?) and then finished up with a slice of chocolate cake with peppermint frosting. I could pretty much go back at least twice a week for that meal for the rest of my life. My son loves their curried tuna sandwich and wanted some of my cake, but I said no, so he ordered the cupcake version of my cake. I have been going here since it has opened and have never had any problems with unfriendly people, and I'm not sure what that's all about. I was in Denver visiting friends and had run out of tea (I drink a lot of it). I purposely went out in search of a great loose leaf tea place and stumbled across this one via Yelp when the first place was not open (and in a psychic bookstore w/ tons of incense). I was very impressed with the selection and price of the loose leaf teas. I bought 1/2 pound of Vanilla Coconut (have been looking for something like this for a year) and 2 oz of the Immortalitea and one other one that was really good but already consumed (can't remember the name). The prices are well below what I pay at the chains (Teavana and Lupica), and I was very happy with the quality. In addition to the pot of Vanilla Coconut, we were impressed with the food. We had a blackberry lemon scone that was unbelievably moist and had just the right crumble (i.e. butter to flour ratio). The nut caramel bar was so good that I had a hard time sharing. I was sad that we had a big breakfast and could not try more of their food. I loved the vibe (less teahouse more coffeebar feel), and the staff was extremely helpful. I am so sad that I live halfway across the country and cannot go more often! read more

Cute place. Long wait to order. Asked for a chai latte. The ladies who worked there acted as if they had never made something like this before. I think they brewed a chai tea then put milk over it so it tasted like really watered down milk. It was not good :( I would venture to bet that their regular teas are very good. First of all, our service was pretty good. We were fortunate not to encounter the "owner experience" that you may have read about in the other reviews :D The atmosphere is pretty hipster which makes the owner's attitude even more surprising. In any case, we stopped by here to have some desert on a weekend. The deserts were good and are limited to what they have made for the day. Lots and lots of different teas to choose from, many italian sodas and teas are also available. We also saw others having sandwiches but for the price they looked pretty puny. I would come back here for some tea and dessert but probably not for lunch. read more

Updating my Capital Tea review because I've been going here for over a year now. My experience has gotten better so I've been back many times. I patron Capital Tea monthly for my book club and the staff are always nice. Once I forgot to make a reservation and they managed to accommodate us. I'm glad they split our checks and don't make a fuss like other places I know. We always order tea and most of us also order sandwiches or salad. They sometimes have a special for the day, such as quiche, and that goes quickly. I like the tea selection and have drank all of their oolong and white teas. The place also has a variety of desserts like macaroons, cakes, and cookies. It's a great central location for those of us coming from all over Denver metro. It's funny that I start noticing regulars. Great place. I definitely recommend! read more

Great selection on a wide variety of teas. The food was all very delicious and you could tell they know what they are doing in the kitchen. It feels like a tea shop and eatery you'd find in a quaint little town right on South Broadway. The service was excellent: we were taken care of but not hovered over nor forgotten. Very disappointing! Made reservations a week in advance for 2:30 pm. Most places want a credit card payment in case people are no shows and they do not loose money, which is understandable. They will give you a bill at the end of the service and you will pay then and sign the receipt. Not so here, but there is nothing that states this is the case that is different from any other place I have made a reservation. Poor service: Staff seemed to be running back and forth in the shop a lot. forgot milk, had to remind to light the candle in tea warmers, after giving us their lukewarm Noel tea, it took 20 minutes before wait staff came by to get our order for tea and then 20 minutes to get our teas and some scones, another 20 minutes for food tray, told several times the discount if you got high tea you would get for purchasing dry tea, but never came by to see what we would want to purchase, when my husband went up to the counter to order, they told him to go back and have a seat at the table, after 20 more minutes of waiting and 5:10 pm had rolled around and we still didn't have the loose tea he had asked for, I had had enough. The tea: Actually very good variety and quite tasty. Quality of food: The "hot" food on the first tier was only lukewarm when we received it at the table and the sausage roils were mini hot dogs in puff pastry. I have never seen anything like that served in any tea house before. The crust less quiche tasted good, but was too cold. The finger sandwiches were had some crust still on part of them and were not actually cut as finger sandwiches usually are. I noticed when we walked in that they were sandwiches that were just cut in half- except that when that tray had 1/2 sandwich, we got the chicken sandwich cut in thirds. Maybe they were running out of the chicken? Cleanliness: I saw crumbs on the floor right away and there was a crushed cookie right by our chairs. The tablecloth was wrinkled and the server was brushing some food off it before we sat down. The lid of my teapot had some kind of film on it and I made the mistake of moving the tarnished sugar bowl and that handle was coated with something. Atmosphere: This would be a great place to work on your computer, but NOT for high tea. Recommendation: If you want a nice cozy place to have high tea for a special occasion go up north from Capital Tea to The Denver Tea Room and you will get great service, good food and inviting atmosphere. If you just want tea and you don't care about cleanliness of the place or cozy atmosphere, this is the place to go. read more

Decided to check this place out yesterday since I'm crazy about teas and they just opened! Apparently this is the furthest west they've ever been. This company is mostly on the east coast. I was immediately gravitated towards the green teas and the store manager, Chip, noticed me staring at a hand rolled tea called madame butterfly. I mentioned that I had never tried a hand rolled tea before and he immediately asked me if I like hot or cold teas. I I replied hot and was expecting a small sample size of the rare tea but he returned a few minutes later with a whole to-go cup just for me!!! I was shocked and pleasantly surprised. The tea was amazing but I'll have to save up for it because it was about $150 for 4 ounces of tea! My boyfriend and I ended up picking up a milk oolong instead. I was amazed at how milky it was and Chip explained that it was the drying process that have it it's milky texture. There was zero milk products in it! Even though it was still pricey... About $50 for 4 ounces, we couldn't leave the store without it! If you enjoy teas and appreciate high quality product, I recommend Capital Teas!! read more

I have been searching for a place like this in Denver for a while. Nestled in Antique Row, Capital Tea is a locally owned, friendly and charming establishment. I have grown up drinking English Breakfast tea, and I am very particular about how it is served. It was served in a warm tea pot and the tea leaves were carefully removed after the perfect steep ensuring the tea would not become bitter after the first cup. The sandwich selection is classic - egg salad and curried tuna, both wonderful. I also had an almond shortbread, which was lovely. The atmosphere is also charming. So happy to have found this little gem. The girl at the counter was very sweet an informative, she definitely knows what she's talking about. I had a hot chai with some milk and a fantastic breakfast panini with red pepper. It was delicious! I couldn't help myself and also had a molasses cookie sandwich with lemon icing. Too tasty and everything was priced on the fair or low side for this type of brunchy nook. I also really enjoyed the atmosphere, so quiet with classical music playing. Sure, the tea selection is large, the sweets are absolutely delicious [though incredibly overpriced], but the sandwiches seemed extremely small for being as much as they were. When I order a turkey sandwich for eight dollars and get snarked at for no reason, I expect there to be meat on it. Not only that, when I asked for a non-grilled sandwich, the owner became huffy about it, and I heard her complaining in the back about my choice. It took a while to actually get the food. It was a disappointment when I actually received it to see a tiny side salad with very little to it, and virtually nothing on the sandwich. I'd make a better one at home. She was extremely short, and I don't like when someone looks down their nose at me because I don't know much about tea. If anything, the owner should be reasonable, nice, and happy customers are interested and asking questions about her products. Because of the owner, I will never give my business here again. There are plenty of places on Pearl Street to frequent that have never treated me wrong. I would hire the baker for personal parties, though. Brilliant sweets. read more

I took my mom there for her 84th birthday lunch and didn't know, that you had to make a reservation 24 hours in advance for high tea which is $25 a person but it's the traditional little sandwiches , chocolates and tea's But the staff said we could just order off the menu and still order desserts so it ended up being a really good birthday for her I would definitely recommend this tea spot read more

This tea house is the best ever!!! I brought six people, including me, for the Afternoon Tea and the experience could not have been better. I have gone to The Brown Palace for Afternoon Tea and this is so much better in terms of service, quality of food, and most importantly, the quality of teas. The teas were thoroughly explained to us by the lady up front and the owner, who checked in on us periodically and asked if we wanted more tea. You get as much tea as you'd like and is the best way to try new teas that are more expensive. The owner, Shani, is a bright and cheery woman who is passionate about teas and making everyone feel at home. She explained each tea and where it came from with detail and made sure our dietary needs (vegetarian and nut free) were accommodated. The cucumber sandwiches are THE BOMB and I highly recommend ordering some with your tea. You will not regret it! We had wonderful quiches, sandwiches, and chocolates that were prepared with care. This food is absolutely delicious and everyone in my party deeply enjoyed all of it. The cherry on top of this outstanding tea is that you get a discount on any teas you want to take home with you. I recommend the Birthday Blend, Lichee, Orange Creamsicle, and the Darjeeling. Everything about this place, from the lights strung on the ceiling to the walls full of tea make me want to come back every week. I recently hosted my sister's baby shower at Capital Tea and they did a phenomenal job! Capital Tea was able to accomodate all 18 of us and gave us an amazing experience while we were there. While we were initially told that we would only have 2 hours for the event, the manager informed us that there was some leeway in that time as there was no additional large party after us. We were able to select the Holiday Tea they put on every winter in December, and Capital Tea was able to accomodate the dietary restrictions of those in the party. The manager did an amazing job welcoming us when we arrived as well as explaining the English tea experience to the party. The servers were very efficient as they served us our teas and treats for the afternoon. We never felt rushed, and the food was absolutely delicious. Capital Tea has become one of my favorite tea houses in Denver to go for afternoon tea. I would highly recommend this place to anyone simply wanting to get a cup of tea before shopping or anyone wanting to experience an afternoon tea. read more

We used from love this tea shop, however, it was sold a couple years ago and it seems like ever since neither food nor service are as good. I went in today for the turkey sandwich, and they have changed their lunch meat to a cheaper brand, put on very little tomato and also put on Chipotle mayo when I specifically requested they leave it off due to dietary reasons. I had to throw the sandwich away due to the Chipotle mayo. The food here is not cheap, so I have high expectations that I will get a good sandwich, it just seems to get worse and worse. The tea is good and so are the scones, but they always seem to run out of scones. They used to have a regular Saturday scone that was delicious, but I haven't seen that one there in a long time. To the owner, please, please read your reviews and take steps necessary to up the food quality and quantity, it is mentioned multiple times on your reviews and you are not replying or changing the food. Ordered the special and didn't receive half my order (the turkey and Swiss quiche). The order was a to-go order and the woman that took our order seemed pretty unhappy about that. It took around ten minutes to receive the order. Which would have been perfectly acceptable had my order been complete. I regret making such an expensive reservation here for high tea and wish I would have gone somewhere else. As others have expressed, the service left a lot to be desired. It took 20 minutes just to get seated when we had a reservation and another 30 minutes before we received any tea or food and it only came because I finally went up to the counter to ask. It honestly felt like I was intruding on their day, no "sorry for the wait" or even a basic greeting of any sort. The food for high tea was admittedly delicious but after having waited so long to get it we were rushed to eat before they closed. When I went to check out I was annoyed to discover that the prices they have advertised online were not the prices I was being charged! High tea is supposedly $30 for an adult and $22 for a child (according to their website) but I was charged $35 for all three adults at our table and $26 for the child adding an extra $20 to my total before tax and tip! This was even more infuriating considering we didn't get to drink nearly as much of the "unlimited" tea as we wanted because we had so little time after waiting so long.
