It's frustrating when you have to travel out of your way to get loose leaf tea, and they don't follow their posted hours. Both online and the store doors say they're open until 5:30 pm. Got there just before 5 pm, and they were closed. The door wasn't locked, so we went in. They wouldn't let us buy tea and said they close at 4:30 pm. Won't be going here anymore. read more

A tea house in Denver, you say? Shut your mouth! My friend Theo and I met here around New Year's to catch up and had a marvelous time. Capital Tea has an extensive but not overwhelming menu of assorted teas that makes the tea lover in me so happy! The staff were able to recommend several new to me teas based on my current favorites, Earl Grey and the classic English Breakfast Tea. I opted to try a Darjeeling tea, which was smokey and fabulous. I can't fail to mention the lovely food and baked goods menu as well. Sandwiches and salads and sweet galore! Everything I tried was oh so tasty. Was just in this establishment. I waited quite some time for someone to acknowledge me. No eye contact, no I'll be with you in a minute... By the time I was able to engage someone, after asking for some tea sample sizes to take at home and try, I had asked for a scone. The service was slow, another one of the staff swooped in and took the last of the scones. Not a pleasant experience. I understand how important your seated customers are, but I think it's just as important to acknowledge your walk-in customers as well. This was my experience here. read more

My friends and I have been on a mission to go to all the tea places in Denver. This one ranks in the top 3 so far. Though it doesn't appear to serve the traditional high tea, it does have a delicious assortment of sandwiches, salads, and pastries. They serve high quality, loose leaf teas, and the atmosphere is casual and relaxing. I liked that I was able to eat a tasty grilled turkey and avocado sandwich, side salad, 2 pastry items, and drink a large pot of tea for the same price as many high teas. My friends enjoyed having the option to eat less and pay less. They got the small pot of tea, a sandwich, and one pastry which came out to $16--a pretty good deal for a filling meal at a tea shop. All in all, the three of us really enjoyed the tea, food, desserts, and atmosphere. read more

I came here for a bridal shower and wow was I impressed! It is a very cute, quaint, and quiet shop with a lovely and inviting staff. They have a great variety of teas, you'll definitely find one you like! We had an assortment of snacks, the spinach pastries were delicious, the chicken sandwiches were my favorite, everyone loved the quiche and the shepherd's pie! This is a charming little tea house and I came due to a special promotional coupon that I had. I didn't realize until I got to the front door that I would have to make reservations so I asked when I came in. There was no one else in the dining room so I asked if I could have a table. She agreed with some reluctance saying that due to the special so many had purchased the special offer. I felt a rather cool response from the owner but enjoyed the lunch with my friend and the great tea. The deserts were grand also. It is too bad our experience was tainted by one person's attitude but I would love to come back again. I also agreed to upgrade my tea pot to a large for an extra dollar but instead they charged me $5. Just little things to be mindful of that can make a big difference in return customers. read more

I don't know how this place is getting such a low rating. I went here after being in the area to look for a dress down the street. I love tea mostly just a nice black straight up. The front counter girl was SUPER sweet and seemed to know what's on the up and up about tea. They have organic teas which I believe some people prefer. It is a cute little space kinda reminds me of these little cafes in France where you can just sit and relax and drink tea, much more slow paced than a national known coffee/ tea places. I also had a chance to enjoy some lunch here just a sandwich which was good. A little steep for a sandwich but good. I will defiantly come back here for some good tea talk time. read more

I went for the first time on June 28th with a dear friend. What a yummy and delightful experience. We had the high tea for two...which included tea sandwiches, scones and cream and sweets. They have a wonderful selection of teas (including decaf) and a friendly and knowledgeable staff. This is a neighborhood treasure. I will go back with other friends very soon. We went here for my daughters birthday, and the waitress was less than attentive. We were there for 45mins before receiving our first tea. We immediately ordered more knowing how long the first took. In the meantime they asked the table next to us to leave they needed the table. It wasnt much longer and the table on the other side was asked to leave. We knew we were next. So our 2nd tea never came so we called the waitress over to order tea again and she had to check with her boss to see if we had time for a 2nd pot. She came back and said we could stay for 40mins. It was 28 mins before the tea came. Unless you are prepared to pay $30/person and be asked to leave before trying your 2nd type. I'd advise going else where. Food was tasteless. read more

I'm part of a group of ladies that have tea once a month. We've been to The Brown Palace, House of Commons, Denver Tea Room, and now here. This place beats them all! Immediate, attentive service, the owner is extremely knowledgeable and friendly, there's a large selection of teas, and the food is outstanding! The business is small but charming, and has just the right mix of modern and Victorian style. A single, unisex restroom is in the back. There were four of us in the party, I made reservations. She called me the day before and confirmed. There's plenty of two hour street parking and residential parking a block behind Broadway that has no time limit. Cute neighborhood with lots of quaint local shops to visit. I got the Windmere tea and the Black Jasmine Cream. I loved the Jasmine so much I bought some to take home. ( When you buy high Tea, you get a discount on loose tea purchases that day). Free Wifi, the password is on the menu. We could smell any tea on the menu before choosing. She gave us a sample of Moroccan mint tea (samples change daily) served in a traditional Moroccan glass. The tea was served with a variety of sugars, honey, and cream. The scones came out first, smaller than you're used to, but not lacking in flavor. One was orange currant the second was lemon. Served with lemon curd, our choice of jam (we chose blackberry) and little jars of Devonshire cream (that you can purchase for $1 each!). The towers came out next, the bottom tier had a bite-sized tomato and cheddar quiche that melted in your mouth, and a tiny sausage rolled in a rye dough served with three kinds of mustard (yellow, Dijon, and jalapeño). Delicious and such a treat from the usual all-carb tower fare! Second tier was two kinds of sandwiches, a smoked almond chicken salad that is AMAZING, and some fantastic English cucumber with dill and cream cheese. The final tier for desserts had a tea sugar cookie, vanilla cake with strawberry frosting, a banana cream tort and a locally made molded chocolate. When I mentioned I'd be giving away my banana cream because I have a strong aversion to bananas, she brought me a lemon blueberry torte instead! You can always tell the good chocolate when you pick it up and it starts melting a little on your fingers (no wax coating). Amazing price! Stopped by for a quick tea refill. Got some Da Hong Pao oolong for ~$5/oz. the tea quality itself is not the best but Da Hong Pao is an amazing tea so even the cheap kind is still very fragrant and for that price, it's amazing. $5 for the most expensive oolong in the world. I'll take it. The place itself was also packed with people drinking tea and eating sweets. I'll definitely have to find a day to come back and sit down to try some of the pastries. read more

The decor is cozy but has a contemporary flare, and the lighting is natural coming from the two prominent front windows. They have an expansive selection of tea to choose from, of all varieties: black, green, herbal, mixed. The pastries looked delicious and very "food-y" with complex complementary flavors happening. This tea shop is the awesome! I went in for afternoon tea with my mom for her birthday and we had a great time! Food was great and the tea was perfect. You can change your tea flavor as much as you want and can drink as much of it as you can with unlimited tea. I frequent Capital Tea at least twice a week and probably 3 or 4 times depending on what is going on. Sometimes I go in for tea and a sweet and lately I have been eating lunch frequently. My favorite is the other turkey sandwich because it doesn't have cheese on it (middle age weight gain, blah blah blah). The salmon, cucumber is also fabulous and yes get it grilled!!! I think Lisa (the owner) is one of the nicest people I have ever met. I hang out there for at least two hours when I'm in tea, good book and yummy sweet mode and she's so pleasant to everyone who comes in. No it's not a coffee shop, coffee would overwhelm the tea and charm of the place. And yes I do drink coffee also, love it in fact. The owner spent a lot of time explaining all the various teas. I loved that we each could get a different type of tea and when we wanted a new pot we could choose another tea. The food was delicious! Cute place. Long wait to order. Asked for a chai latte. The ladies who worked there acted as if they had never made something like this before. I think they brewed a chai tea then put milk over it so it tasted like really watered down milk. It was not good :( I would venture to bet that their regular teas are very good.
