Just had dinner here. My husband had salmon from the Senior menu and it was okay. I had the chicken fried steak, which was as tough as an old shoe. My sweet potato was burned and bitter. Waitress never did check in on us so I ate what I could. Worst dinner I've had in a long time. I did complain when she came over to give us the check, and again when I paid. I got a 'gee I'm sorry' and paid $18.99 for a terrible meal. I love eating at diners but we will not return to this one. read more

Yesterday my wife and I discussed my life insurance policy. Today she treated me to the Capitol diner. Do you have any clue where I am headed with this? We got there a little after 8 AM on Sunday, August 7. The establishment was barely half full. We were seated immediately. I inspected the silverware which showed that it was not very clean. I asked for a new set of silverware and when it came, I inspected it. It looked cleaner but I still took it to the restroom to wash it off to my satisfaction. Our waitress, possibly somebody moonlighting from being a guard at the local state correctional facility, was gruff and smelled of cigarette smoke. She took my wife's order and my order for two eggs and corn beef hash. The food took about 15 minutes to come to our table. When the waitress dropped our plates on the table, literally, she sped off while saying "Do Do you need anything else?" Over her shoulder. She would not have her response anyway because she was halfway across the restaurant. In regards to the eggs, they were over easy eggs and cooked properly. The corn beef hash was good but excruciatingly high in sodium. They also sent out hashbrowns with my order. This the servings of the hashbrowns and the hash were huge. I was only able to eat less than half, but that might give me another three years onto my lifespan. Bottom line is: there are too many other places in the area on Sunday morning to get breakfast. Your mileage may vary but I don't think I will ever come here again. read more

As a black woman who drove up here for a family function from Philadelphia this was definitely a disappointment. $75 for three people to get a breakfast that was bland, cold and incorrect. My one daughter got strawberry pancakes. They charged an extra five dollars for the strawberry and whipped cream, but didn't say anything until the check came. My other daughter ordered a side of cheese eggs that didn't come until the check came. We all asked for turkey sausage however she gave my one daughter pork sausage. My omelette was every kind of messed up that you could imagine. I repeatedly asked for no tomatoes and somehow still got tomatoes in my omelette. The weird canned glaze strawberries that they added to the pancakes was covering the entire plate. It was mostly strawberry syrup with a little side of pancake. Not to mention as long as the eggs took to come out they were still a NOT seasoned and bland. And last the orange juice was more sour than the lemonade, but it cost me almost 5 dollars. What started as a relatively good breakfast and restaurant turned out to be an epic fail! My family and I stopped in what we originally thought was "Silver Diner" to get breakfast on our way back to the DC Area. Not paying attention to either the signage or even the menu, (our fault) we were actually at Capitol Diner. Our waitress was a really nice lady (didn't get her name). We ordered our meals, French Toast, fried potatoes w/cheese and onions added in and a omelette. Because we were pressed for time, we had to get to-go boxes and take some of our food with us. After the two hour ride back, and resting up for a bit, I decided to warm our leftovers up to eat. I ate majority of my potatoes, get to the end and discovered one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen in my food-- a dead fly! I called back to the restaurant and requested to speak to the manager, and the young man who answered asks me "What's my name and what are you calling for?!" I then told him that I was calling to speak to the manager, he again asked "what am I calling for?" I told him to speak to a manager! The manager gets on the phone I proceeded to tell him that I'd left the restaurant around 730 this morning and took some of my breakfast with me, get home to eat it and discovered there's a dead fly in my food. I also understood that since I was no longer in the immediate area, I still wanted to bring this to his attention, and more importantly to have his kitchen staff to be more cognizant of insects that are flying around in the kitchen, let alone added to the food! He was semi-apologetic, said that he'd talk with both the waitstaff and kitchen staff. He didn't offer to refund the money! I can't say that I'll ever eat here again on any return visit to that area. When you eat here, look in your food and under it! You never know what may be added in! read more

This place was very good at one time, years ago, when we last ate here. It's now a place to avoid. $13 for a cheeseburger with chips and a pickle, not terribly priced but if the food insn't any good then it's very overpriced. My mother got a fried platter and sent it back. How do you screw up a frozen hamburger and a plate of fried food??? Everything is an extra charge btw. Cool diner in Harrisburg nearby chain hotels and gas station off the highway. Casual American food though they do offer daily specials. Food wasn't anything to brag about but a good place to order up comfort food whether it's a burger or pancakes for breakfast. I came here for breakfast one weekend and had a great meal. The country fried eggs were terrific with a just little bit of ketchup. They essential were home fries with scrambled eggs. Passing by this diner for years thinking how cool it looks and always wanted to stop in for breakfast. We finally had the opportunity for breakfast on a Sunday. There was a 20 minute wait when we arrived at 10am. We ended up sitting at the counter after about 10 minutes when two seats opened. The layout is your typical old school diner which we like. Loud and busy but expected. Employees were not overly friendly. I get it, it's busy but a smile and upbeat tones would be appreciated. Though our waitress did a great job keeping my coffee filled, water filled and quick service. Menu isn't as big as your normal diner in my opinion but they have enough to choice from. Overall the food was bland and high priced for the quantity. My creamed chipped beef barely was enough to cover the potatoes and had no flavor. When I saw the portion I immediately asked for to over easy eggs and added them on top with lots of pepper to bump up the flavor and make it more of a satisfying meal. I'm glad we tried it out but I would say it's on my list to return again. read more

The last time I was here the food was great! That was in 2007. Lol This time not so good. Service not bad not great. We ordered chicken fingers with sweet and spicy sauce. They brought out my side salad with what I can only describe as the crumbs from the bottom Of the crouton box. Gross! The lettuce was brown. Then when we got our chicken fingers they just poured the sauce in the corner of the dish. Instead of putting it in a container. This sweet and spicy sauce tasted like they mixed maple syrup and franks red hot. We didn't eat them fingers. I order fish and chips the tartar sauce was a good word consistency I can't even describe. We had to ask for our drinks half way through our meal. I didn't finish as I started feeling a little nauseas. This was all after I got a fork with a big hunk of food stuck in the prong. Yucky we will not be back. read more

would have given four stars as this place looked clean - The walls, ceilings and trim (most in polished aluminum or chrome finish) all shined. I would rate the food I had at three stars. I ordered the pancakes with sausage. The pancakes were not fluffy more crepe like and they were tough, couldn't cut them with a folk, needed the knife and even then they wouldn't cut more as you tore them apart. The sausage patty was good and bigger than most. Over all I ate it and finished it all. So, I would go back when and if I am around that area and try them again. read more

This place is reminiscent of a old fashioned 50's diner with some up scale value. Service is. Not over friendly but extremely efficient at what they do. Honestly the girls did great!!! Tiffany was in training and her and the trainer gave us excellent concise service. With all the worker shortage I have to say they handled it with excellence Big menu. Lots of great choices. We both both got the Capital Specials. One with French toast and one with pancakes. We both enjoyed our breakfast. Not the best not even close to the worst. Worst diner ever. We ordered. Waited 45 minutes and the waitress Susan, brought our food out. Was very rude and went to slap herself dropping my friends food. Then was very rude about saying how she dropped it. Coffee cups we're dirty and food was terrible. Nothing worth more than a copper penny! Seriously needs to be fixed. The waitress also said "then starve" after we told her we didn't wanna wait another hour. Terrible Also cook came out in pajamas to smoke a cigarette, which is totally gross. Never eating here again.
