There was the typical sales pitch on extra warranty add-ons and whatnot (a salesperson got to sell), but a quick decline was the end to that discussion, which I greatly appreciate. I'm likely an atypical customer as I knew exactly the car I wanted, I don't have a trade-in vehicle, nor was I financing. Therefore the whole process was as simple as car buying can be (outside of Tesla). So take my experience with a grain of salt: there weren't as much moving pieces for things to go awry. I hadn't purchased a car at a dealership in 12 years or so when I decided I wanted to get another Miata. Capitol Mazda had a fairly lightly used RF that was in a color combination I liked, so decided to check it out. I initially went there to just look and was shown the car, but specifically didn't want to take up the sales person's (Andrew) time with a test drive as I was just mulling things over. No pressure or pushing, just allowed me to get inside, open up the roof, get a feel for the car. Short interaction, but I got what I came there for. There were a couple of rock chips and stuff, so at that point I was thinking of buying new instead. After looking at the new color combinations and how much I could save buying used, I reconsidered the car I looked at, but it wasn't clear if it was a Certified Pre-Owned (as listed on the Mazda USA site) or not (wasn't listed as CPO on Capitol Mazda's own site). So I called in, talked to Chris Hampton, who assured me it was a CPO, so we made an appointment for the next day. Turned out Chris was given the day off, so I met Samuel Molina instead and he took me on a test drive and when I inquired if there was any flexibility on price, he said if I was serious about buying that day, he could run some numbers. I was serious, so we went inside. I know (roughly) how car dealers make extra margin, so it wasn't surprising that the original quote/offer had $7K in extra maintenance/service plans and extra things (theft deterrent stuff). I really don't begrudge them adding this stuff in the initial offer, even if it didn't make sense for me. There was no real push back on my saying I didn't want those things. I had kind of dreaded the whole car buying experience, but it wasn't bad at all. Yes, we had to go through some iterations to negotiate on price, but I had my acceptable number and had studied the KBB/Edmunds used pricing guidance, and their initial "sticker" price was reasonable even if on the high end of the range, but it's the Bay Area, so being on the high end of ranges is not unusual. But they showed some flexibility to ultimately get to a price we were both comfortable with. Not unpleasant at all. Once we agreed upon the price, I worked with Oscar Delgado on the finance/sales paperwork. He was efficient, friendly, and was happy to explain anything I had questions on. So I got the car that day, and Chris followed up the next day to congratulate me on getting the car. There turned out to be some issues (details not terribly relevant) related to CPO compliance, but Chris was my contact and advocate to push to get things taken care of on his side. It wasn't a sales issue really, but he took responsibility to get it taken care of internally. There wasn't any pushback on there being an issue, or any indication that Capitol Mazda didn't want to address it. It did take some time to resolve, and there was some back and forth about the sequence of some things that led to one heated discussion (I was heated, to Chris' credit he stayed calm). I understand the how/why of why it happened that way. But the main thing and bottom line is it was fully resolved and I'm happy with the end result. So on the issues that matter: - sales experience and professionalism from all members of sales staff during the buying process - attitude and receptiveness when an issue is brought up by the customer and corrective action is requested - the end result of whether things get fully resolved On all these counts, Capitol Mazda did well by me and I can say I'm happy with the overall experience and would buy another car there in the future. Maybe the best service of any dealership I've been to. These guys are awesome, especially Nick who has been updating me over the last couple days. I took my 2021 Mazda 3 turbo hatch in for a low oil light, I had been smelling burning oil in the cabin intermittently for some time. They identified an extended warranty issue for the car and started repair. After having the car up they also noticed my radiator was cracked, the standard warranty expired in 2024 but they went out of their way to request an exception from Mazda when they could've just charged me for repair. And I got a 2026 replacement of my turbo 3 to drive in the meantime, didn't even have to ask for a loaner. I don't know of any other car brand that would do this, I've always got good service here and at Steven's Creek but am honestly surprised with this experience. They really make you feel valued and stand behind their cars. I have had only Mazda since 2018, I own 2 of them right now, and this the first actual issue I've ever encountered and it's caused as little headache possible. read more

Bought a car from Capitol Mazda, and it couldn't have been easier! It's the best and nicest experience I've *ever* had buying a car. I filled out their contact form on the web, and asked for an "Out The Door" (OTD) price. I also did this with other dealers, all the way out to Roseville. Capitol got back to me first, with a no BS quote that was also the lowest. Several other dealerships did not get back to me, or tried to pull either the "come in and talk to us first" or the "tell us what your other offers are, and we'll beat them". No, sorry, I was clear about what you needed to do to win my business. Once I accepted their offer, I filled out all the paperwork online. They didn't play any "you have to talk to the Finance guy so that he can sell you a bunch of stuff you don't need" games. I walked in, signed the 3 forms that the government needs wet signatures for, gave them my down payment, and walked out in less than 15 minutes. My sales manager said that he specifically took the job there because he didn't want to play the games any more. Their folks don't work on commission, so there was no "what can I do to get you into this car today" type pressure when I took the test drive. Highly recommend them! The Saturday crew needs a serious reality check on basic customer service. I walked in to pick up a part, and not a single agent at the front even looked up from their computer. Thinking I might have better luck at the parts desk, I walked to the back and stood there waiting. Again, I was completely ignored. I eventually had to ring the bell just to get someone to acknowledge I was there. The employee came out from the back, where he had been laughing and joking around, looking visibly annoyed that he had to do his job. I actually felt like I had to apologize for "interrupting" his fun just to pick up my order. Customer service is clearly a lost art with this specific crew. The Capitol Mazda sales guy cheated us - my wife and I - two 81-year-old octogenarians who weren't able to understand the purchase agreement, I guess because of our age. The purchase of the car was supposed to include two discounts but we never received ANY discounts. We also asked about a Costco Auto Discount but the sales guy NEVER even mentioned the Costco Auto Discount. Instead, the sales guy quoted us an out-the-door price of $39,000. dollars - for a Mazda 3 that has an MSRP price of $25101. When the sales guy showed us the outrageous out-the-door price of $39,000. dollars, we should have gotten up and walked out. However, we stayed to negotiate since we needed the car. Anyway, we were "hoodwinked", that is, scammed, cheated, conned, ripped off, lied to, etc. You get the picture. The sales guy then quoted us a price of $30,135. BUT, he neglected to state that the $30,135. price included two OPTIONAL ITEMS that amounted to $2194. dollars that they added to the price of the car - unnecessary items that we did not need or want. The MAZDA guy added those optional items, we didn't. We should have caught the $2194. dollar con but we failed to do so. It was WAY too confusing for us, two 81-year-old octogenarians. Thus, we think that the Mazda sales guy committed "elder abuse." Sighhhhhhh . . . . . WARNING! Make sure to read the fine print in the purchase agreement and DON'T make the same mistake that we did, that is, to wind up paying for OPTIONAL ITEMS that you don't need or want. We purchased a certified preowned (CPO) Mazda CX50 in February 2026 and could not be happier with car and customer service at Capitol Mazda. Big shout out to Sameer. I came for an oil change because they sent me a coupon. I always appreciate that they check everything while servicing the car. They sent me a video of what other services my car needs. There are two service lanes and one should arrive 15 minutes before an appointment to get checked in. Simply pull up and wait for someone to check you in. Nick was stellar in assisting me with check-in, obtaining a loaner car, and checking out, including payment. There is a sign indicating a 3% surcharge for credit card use, so bring cash or debit card. They offer complimentary car washes upon request at check-in when you get your car serviced. The parts department was also very helpful. The gentlemen helped me install a cargo net (simple, I know). There is a comfortable waiting room with leather chairs and some refreshments. The premises appeared clean. An area of improvement would be to place protective seat cover and paper mat when receiving or handling the vehicle. read more

I've been a customer of this Mazda Service Center since I bought my car here in 2020, and this review is long overdue. Overall, my experience has been great. They've been fantastic at servicing my vehicle, and it has run smoothly over the years. Early on, I would approve all the recommended services. However, after taking the time to read my car's manual, I discovered that some of the services I was being sold weren't actually required or even recommended by Mazda. I later found out from an employee that the service advisors receive a commission for the services they sell, which explains why they push for certain services that aren't truly necessary. While I understand that commission is a part of many sales jobs, I wish there had been more transparency about what my car genuinely needed versus what was an optional add-on. Despite this, I want to give a special shout-out to two employees, James and Jamie. In my experience, both of them have been incredibly honest and helpful. If you bring your car here, I highly recommend looking for either of them. My advice to fellow Mazda owners is to always consult your car's manual before approving any service, so you can make an informed decision. read more

Customer service received here used to be great. I've been a customer for the last 4+ years since I purchased my car. I kept coming back for the advisors alone but most of them are gone now. One day I came to pick up my car on a Saturday and felt like I was a nuisance to her, making her work on the weekend. The car service has gone down as well. I get a video of my car with all the things they suggest I fix, but don't actually need fixing. My air filter doesn't smell like it's been changed. The carwash has been broken forever or they just don't want to wash and dry it. They only washed my car after the first service after purchase. What's more frustrating is I cannot reserve a loaner at all. I have to call every hour the day before and the day of only to get "you just have to hope there's one available when you drop it off." In an hour??!! You want me to HOPE it's there and that I can continue my day? How would you like it if I said that to you? I can't take time out of my work day just to make sure there's a loaner. It used to be a lot easier to reserve a loaner, I could call days in advance, but now it's impossible. I'll be taking it to Stevens Creek from now on. read more

I would like to make a shout out to Melissa Olson, my service advisor. I went to both south bay Mazda dealers for a quote to replace a door lock cylinder. Melissa was very knowledgeable about the required service, quoted the appropriate time and additionally pursued getting a parts quote. This was a dramatically different experience from the other dealership, whose service advisor vacillated on the level of effort and quoted me 3x the labor based on disassembling the door (not needed) as well as specifying additional parts not needed. The advisor also "abandoned" me as far as getting the part quote, leaving me to get the VIN number again and explaining the ask at that department. Based on that experience, I chose Capitol Mazda for the service which was completed as quoted. Melissa reviewed with me additional services recommendations and straightforwardly answered my questions. I realize this is my third review but this is just for the service department and sales team. I wish there was a way to give reviews specifically for each department because the experience really is different for each. I'm giving five stars to the service department. Each time I have brought my car in I do feel like they really are accommodating. They keep you updated with calls or text and are upfront if the service will take the whole day so that you can go about your day. There was something odd with my engine, and they were very thorough and ended up keeping my car for a couple days to resolve. Thankfully, my warranty covered it. I haven't had a bad experience just with the service department. And of course, the sales team is still top-notch so five stars for them as well. I went back to Gitea for possibly another car and he was incredibly thoughtful with my budget given I was going through a personal move. I called this phone number and this guy answers. I ask him if he can reschedule my appointment for Monday. He tells me that's no his responsibility and that I need to talk to the parts department. I tell him that the parts department does not answer the phone and ask him if he can walk the ten feet from his desk to the parts department. This guy has the gall to say to me "not really." You kidding me?! You don't talk to a paying customer that way. I'm not for pal - I'm a customer. Talk to me with respect. So then I ask for his manager. I can't say his name here but the first letter is the same as Apple. Then the manager talks to me. He is so nonchalant about the whole thing. You can tell he gives exactly zero about customer satisfaction. He doesn't assist me and I tell him I'm not showing up on Monday for my appointment and the only reason I called is to be courteous. He does not have even the slightest interest in what I'm saying. I can't stand the business because the customer service is so bad. It's just unacceptable. Walked in close to closing time on a Tuesday with my wife, and Lorenzo was the product specialist that greeted us. He was already busy with customers, but he made sure to let us test drive a couple of cars either way. We were interested in the CX-30 and the CX-5, but after our test drives, we were set on the CX-5. When we arrived home, it was past closing time, and Lorenzo contacted me off the clock to thank us for coming in. Within a couple days, we set an appointment, and Lorenzo and the manager Steve made the entire process smooth and easy. They gave us a great deal, while showing us all the details and options. 8 years loyalty with these guys, bought 2 cars with them and had all tuneups and tires, etc done with them, looking at over $50 thousand spent here and they totally let me down. Brought my car in to get the Navigation Lens cover replaced since Mazda chose to use cheap plastic for their screens and over time it wore down and looked terrible, not able to see my screen in places. Was told to bring it in and would get it replaced with a "good-will" credit. Sat in the waiting room for 3 hours only to be told they wouldn't do it per the managers orders, that it was ruined by possible carwash attendants using bad products on it so NO GO. that was enough for me to leave them for good, will by my CX5 somewhere else. the sad part? all I needed to do was us Maquires plastic conditioner spray on it and it restored the screen so that I can see it now. They lost all that business over not knowing that the fix was just using a $7 bottle of plastic conditioner spray. why didn't they know that before jerking me around? found a mechanic by my office, will go to Stevens Creek for the new car. read more

Their service center is always attentive, clean, and fast. It is so easy to schedule appointments with them. I always receive my car back on-time, if not earlier than the estimated time. They take videos of your car to show you how your tires look or to share anything that needs your attention. The front desk is always courteous. Eugenia helped me today and she was such a delight. For the quality of service, I would rate the Capitol Mazda service center a 5/5. The only reason that my overall rating is a 4 is because, like most car dealerships, their labor pricing is veryyy high. I got the 5 year maintenance plan when I purchased the car back in 2019. So since then, I've only taken my car in for the bare minimum oil changes. I very rarely added extra services like 4 wheel alignment (which costed me $180 in 2023 and $200 in 2024). Sometimes they will email you service coupons that are good through the end of the month, so be on the look out for $15 or $20 off coupons. Anything helps when the prices are this steep! read more

Last week my TPMS lights came on and I made an appointment for this past Tuesday 8/20/24 8 A.M. I was greeted by James who was very polite and welcoming. He found my appointment and got me situated. Later on in the day we spoke and he said the tech needed more time to diagnose my issue. I went back to the dealership to get a loaner. If I was Mazda, I would do a sting operation on the sales team. Mazda as a company is hurting, not because they are scamming, but just the amount of laziness. Sales manager and sales representative both are the most careless people I've seen. I walked in to inquire about new MX-5, and both were unhelpful. There was no conversation about current MX-5s on site nor did they offer to look at 2024 allocations. The only offer they made was that comeback Wednesday, since person who does allocations works on Wednesday. This is first dealership Ive been to where the sales team actively does not want to sell cars. I usually don't write reviews on dealerships, but this place is actually hurting Mazda. Stevens Creek dealership is not that much better since it's owned by DGDG. These guys are browsing internet for the weekend plans while companies like Mazda that make a great product and need to grow will suffer. I'm off to Subaru next door to see if I can order a BRZ since I heard their service is really good, but avoid this place. You can always stop by to use their restrooms and drink free water, trust me no one will say anything cause they are all glued to the monitors browsing internet. read more
