Firstly, I'll concede that in purchasing a used car one must be diligent and informed. I did my best to examine every aspect of the 2017 VW Alltrack in the lot prior to purchasing it, but I couldn't tell, and had no inclination that the sunroof would leak large amounts of water into the car until the day after I got it home. It now makes sense to me why there was an air freshener, not hanging from the rear view mirror, but wedged into the center vent blowing scent directly in my direction and masking what I would soon learn , was the smell of wet carpet and trunk liner that could not be hidden without it. Upon informing the dealership of my "discovery" they of course said all of the right things,"we want to make sure you're satisfied with your purchase, we want happy customers". Additionally, I was informed that the service department would be contacting me to arrange dropping off the vehicle for them to inspect and repair it. Nearly a week later and no one has contacted me, nor has my original salesperson reached out to ensure the process to fix my car, and "make me a happy customer" no call has happened...crickets, nada, zilch. As a customer, an Oregonian and a veteran, the lack of concern, honesty and downright dirty sales approach of this company has obligated me to share my experience. A simple phone call was all that was needed to reinforce their commitment to repair the car they just sold me. That and not hiding or masking such a problem as this. I took my car to Capitol Subaru because the engine shut off when I stopped and then tried to accelerate. Not all the time just certain times. They kept the car 2 days charged over $400 and didn't fix a thing. Still had the same issues when I got it back. I took it to Japanese Connection, within 2 hours they found the issue, showed me and had it fixed for under $200. That means either the guys at Cap Subaru services have no idea what they are doing or they didn't even bother to look. That is just a crappy way to treat people. read more

We had a list of 5 cars that we wanted to look at, one being the Subaru Ascent. Truthfully, we were pretty much sold on the Ascent ahead of time between trusting the Subaru brand and it having what we thought would be all of the features we needed. For this reason, we put it last on our list. We wanted to have all other cars done before we fell in love with the Ascent, which we fully expected to do. We went to Kia, Mazda, Honda and VW before Subaru... the problem? One of the previous cars gave the Ascent a solid run for its money and had features that we became pretty attached to. When we drove the Ascent we were less impressed than we expected to be. That said, the guy who took us on the test drive was nice, knowledgeable and not at all pushy. All the things we love in a tour guide! We got through and were honest with him that we were considering other cars and thanked him for his time. Had the experience ended there, this would have been 5 stars. This is when Capitol Subaru made me regret giving my information to the fella from the test drive. Two days later I got a text and a call literally at the same time. I picked up the phone and it was Duane from the dealership following up on my visit. I let him know that we were pretty decided on a different car but had a few outstanding questions for that dealership and that we'd be in touch should we decide that the Ascent was still an option for us. I thought this would be the end of it. Again, still would have been 5 stars. No pushing, no gross salesy stuff. Still a good experience. I hung up and received an email containing a video that Duane had made introducing himself to "put a face to the name." Kind of weird, but also a bit amusing so still didn't ruin the experience. Yesterday I got a call from Duane asking how I was doing in my search for... some sort of deisel truck I think? I let him know that he had his notes wrong. He back pedaled and asked what I had been looking for so I rehashed the conversation we had previously. Then he starts in on... did I look at Chevys? How about the Traverse? It may have the features I am looking for. Did I consider Kias? I may want to consider one of theirs. I let him know that I did a ton of research in making the list of cars that we looked at and neither of the cars he was suggesting made the list. I then got a youtube of the Chevy Traverse that showed one of the features I had commented on, which was how the middle seat allows access to the backseat. We want one where the carseat does not need to be removed. While it wasn't clear in the video we were sent it turns out the Traverse does this. I initially replied that it wasn't the same feature but it turned out the video just didn't address it. Then I get a call from someone else at the dealership saying the video I requested had been sent. I didn't request a video but okay. So the video pretty much mirrors the youtube video I received. At this point I am getting irritated. I am picking up my kid from daycare while being inundated with calls/emails and requests to text. I felt badly for the guy who called because I was super short but, at that point, I was so over it. Not his fault, he thought I requested the video but good grief. I took a beat and then thought... Okay, I'll look at the Traverse. I couldn't remember why it didn't make my list so I thought maybe I'd missed it. Well, it didn't make it for several reasons so I emailed Duane saying "no thanks." As I hit send an email came through from the other guy who had made the video requesting feedback on the video. I copied and pasted the email I had sent to Duane. This experience went from not at all pushy and really helpful to super pushy and overwhelming. I cannot imagine what it would have been like to negotiate pricing here. This review is about the service department. The place is very clean and the waiting area is spacious. There are cold water, hot tea or coffee and snacks. People are very nice, helpful and professional. We had an accident which required us to replace a wheel and tire. It was not easy to locate the wheel. They have it done within an hour. I highly recommend working with Jesus! He's absolutely a pleasure to work with. We bought a 2019 Forester Sport, and he made the process extremely pleasant. We even had two kids in tow, 7 & 6! It's a great place to go to, even when you can't shop by yourself. Jesus was super patient, kind, very informative, and extremely professional. Really, I could not recommend this dealership, and specifically this sales rep enough. We also worked with an excellent financials man, who's name is escaping me, but he's outstanding as well! He said he was new to the position, and just came from Chrys? I think? Both of the men we dealt with, made the process extremely pain free. I had been emailing with salesman Andrew for a couple of days, and we had discussed my coming down to Salem from Portland on Sunday to look at and hopefully purchase a particular used car. I specifically asked about the logistics of coming on Sunday: could I get financing from On Point Credit Union on a Sunday? Insurance coverage from Geico? Yes, yes, yes! Andrew made it very clear that Sunday was an awesome choice. I called the dealership Saturday night to make sure that this was the plan, and was told that Andrew was busy, but they would make sure to get my message to him: I would be arriving in Salem at 2:30 on Sunday. I arrived at 2:30 on Sunday, to be told that Andrew doesn't work on Sundays. Ok, so they gave me to an intern named Ricardo instead. The price of the car was now suddenly $1000 more than it had been online, which was weird. Ricardo took me for a test drive and he was a nice guy, but to to every one of my questions, his answer was, "I'm not 100% sure about that...." I get it, he is an intern and didn't know the answers, but it was frustrating to spend 1.5 hours with a person who couldn't answer a single one of my questions. When we got back to the dealership they told me I'd be working with Jusitin, the sales person. While I waited for him, I went on the Capital Subaru website to get the "internet price" of this car, which was going to presumably have been less than the published $18,000. Justin showed up with an invoice stating that in order to buy this car, I would need to pay almost $20,000. Part of that was DMV fees, but not all. I explained that I needed to negotiate from the posted $18,000 price rather than the new price of $19,000. There was no talk at all about the "internet price", which should have been less than $18,000. I proposed a price of $16,500, based on regular dealership mark up, regular negotiating tactics, and the fact that the car had been on their lot for 80 days without a price drop. I fully expected to negotiate from this, moving up/down as needed in order to come up with an agreement that would please us both. I didn't expect to actually pay $16,500, nor did I expect to pay the listed price(s) of either $18,000 or $19,000--something in the middle. Justin came back a few minutes later and told me that based on the fact that this car had been on the lot for 80 days, it had already dropped in price as much as it was going to. That was incorrect--my resources showed that it hadn't dropped at all in price. I showed them other cars I was also looking at that were not only cheaper but were certified used cars, to no avail. Justin then said that the only thing he could do was to give me $100 to help with the DMV fees. No counter-offer, no attempt to meet me halfway at all. Come on, guys, this is a negotiation!!! They took my $1500 price deduction offer, countered it with a $100 deduction not in price but for the DMV fees, and wouldn't budge a dollar more than that. So, I walked. Looked at trading in our current vehicle for a new one they only wanted to give 2/3 of what bluebook is you can look up for yourself (Nice top trim vehicle) and then deduct another 10% for "reconditioning" try to add on $4000 for extended warranty and $4000 in additional add-ons that you didn't ask for. Added .6% to the interest rate at my credit union to pad their own pockets. Knew that there was no reason to bother negotiating further with shysters like that. read more

Do not buy any Subarus from the capital Salem dealership. 2019 and newer cars are breaking down with electrical repairs ranging from 2K to $3000. 2019 Subarus with eyesight are significantly flawed and thousands of people are having the same problems! Drive a couple miles over your warranty and all of this is out of pocket! don't let them send you away while you still have the bumper to bumper warranty stating that they cannot find a problem ,this is what happened to us. Other dealerships offer bigger warranties WITH the sale of the car & don't charge you thousands of dollars extra. If you love Subarus, keep buying them but buy them from a dealership with a better warranty and better customer service. We have bought cars from this dealership for more than 10 years and now we are officially done. our home is at 2300 feet elevation and we typically get 2 to 3 feet of snow. In 2019 we had 4 feet of snow at our house. We're going to miss the Subaru's but it's time to try something different. it takes so much energy to write negative comments and this is the first time I've ever done anything like this but it's warranted. I'm sure they will delete my messages soon as they find it but maybe it'll reach one or two people before it happens. I will also post this on Yelp where they cannot so easily delete messages. Ps, our 2015 Forester has burned oil since 2016 ( well known problem) it has power loss and it appears the all wheel drive has Never worked. I was quoted $7000 to fix this problem. The 2015 was my husband's first Subaru so he never realized that the all-wheel-drive didn't work until he purchased a 2019 Subaru. once I started driving his old car I noticed it traveled very poorly in the snow. The 2019 is AWSOME In the snow, just like my 2012 Outback. we are a family that puts lots of miles on our cars because we both work in healthcare, I do home health OT, we need reliable vehicles. I don't know what's going on with Subaru but they are certainly not the vehicles they used to be. Either pay big bucks for the longest warranty you can get ( Now You NEED IT with a Subaru) or get the longest warranty from a different dealer when you buy the vehicle. Note: The staff that used to work at capital Subaru in Salem was so incredibly cool I still stay in touch with one of the women I bought vehicles from. You were truly part of the family. Now it feels like forced kindness. Like just a job. I'm not sure whether they lost a great manager or gained a bad one, but some thing has seriously changed with this dealership. we were naïve and had no idea that better warrantees don't just come with the car, they come from other dealerships! OTHER dealerships really want your business! if you go to Salem because you think it's convenient think twice because having a new car break down and cost you thousands of dollars and struggle to figure out how to get to your job....is far from convenient. I'm not writing this because one bad thing happened, I'm writing this because an entire series of bad things has happened with this dealership. I came here a couple of weeks ago, on 12/30/17, looking to trade my RAV4 for a BRZ. They had the vehicle I wanted and advertised at a decent price, however it had some issues and the sales tactics/presentation of the numbers made no sense. I knew I would be dealing with negative equity, and honestly would have been content with a simple "can't be done" as opposed to being presented with outlandish numbers to dissuade me. I ended up purchasing the virtually identical Toyota 86 elsewhere about 4 days after my visit to Capitol. I would not consider Capitol Subaru for a future purchase. Here are some key points of my experience: Pros- * Good selection of vehicles * Clean facilities * Relatively friendly staff Cons- * Questionable sales tactics centered around vague ways of "moving numbers around" (I was shown numbers asking for $12k down and payments of $1,200 - $1,400/month ?? I asked my husband not to buy from Capitol. They were so pushy when I went there years ago. He still wanted to check it out, so we went with his Jeep ready to buy a Subaru. Worst experience and purchase of our life. They kept asking him if he was going to buy without even giving a price on the Jeep. He finally did, but I felt so frustrated at the experience of looking there, I wouldn't go back for the purchase. A few years later, when he was hit by someone and needed repairs, again it was the WORST experience ever. He was hit in May. He took his car in and out of their repair shop this year and got his car back in October after a zillion excuses as to why it wasn't fixed in the meantime. Yesterday, after a week of having his car back, he couldn't roll up his window. ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL!!!!! Car buying the past (in Willsonville) has been every nightmare you can imagine. With that apprehension I came looking for my first personal Subaru here! I was greeted by John Baker with a smile, kindness, and not at all pushy! I felt comfortable, engaged and excited the entire time, since I was waiting to hear from insurance I took his information and planned to return. When I did, since John was busy he happily passed us to Nick Stapleton who was informative and just as amazing as John. I fell in love after the test drive of course, especially because cars have become not only intuitive but everything you could need at your fingertips. All my questions were answered, and anything that was questionable was immediately checked and relayed asap. However they didn't have the car I wanted on the lot. Luckily they searched over a 400mile radius to find the one I dreamed of. I came in to finalize paperwork, only after they did the hard work and searching. It was the best time management given some complications of multiple buyers waiting to go through. John was wonderful at keeping a conversation going, being relatable and teaching me all about my new vehicle. My vehicle had to be brought to this dealership so I had to wait to fully learn the capability of my car until it arrived the next day; The best part was not leaving until I understood every button. Even my added on accessories were pushed through the service department asap so I could pick it up, and come back for the hitch to be installed in a day since they were busy (understandably). As for the venue, they provide doggy bags and lawn for convenience since they welcome doggy test drives. They also have a "capitol mile" to tour the scenery while you wait and a nice place to sit outside on good days. Their service center has a drop box for keys should you need to leave your vehicle over night for a flat or whatnot. (Best part about a flat they replace and shave the tire for best symmetrical AWD). They also provide fruit, popcorn, coffee, hot cocoa, tea, and Friday morning they have pancakes for service drops near the warm fire place. read more

I went for a test drive with Jared Lund in a nice top of the line Subaru. He was knowledgeable about the vehicle, low pressure, knew the features, explained them well and easy enough to deal with. He said they are not The Costco Dealer because "why pay Costco when they offer the same deals" (They don't) . First warning flag. 2nd warning flag was when Jared couldn't discuss price or trade in value. Right away I knew this was going to be a multi salesman experience using outdated old school tactics and understanding that I would be getting handed off to a closer. It was still going good until the "Team leader" ruined the experience. After the test drive I filled out some paperwork, and waited for "Chris"(The team leader) to come close the deal. Chris finally comes with the offer sheet. 3rd Warning Flag was when Chris starts with the list price as their offer, which was higher than the price on the Capitol Web site by $2,000 and higher interest rates (by 4%) than on their own web page plus a low ball ($3000 less than other dealers) on the trade in. Right up front they were over $8,000 off from what Wilsonville Subaru and Bend Subaru quoted for the same top of the line based on price and trade in offer. After I tell Chris that is ridiculous make your best offer and don't waste my time (He already has)he comes back, drops the price by $6,000 to a price in line with the other two dealerships I'd visited but then says it is price or interest deal and the trade in is the same low ball. The other dealers were within $500 of each other and it did not effect the special interest rate (Why would it?) they are not related???? Then to make sure it felt like the not so good old days Chris gives the "what do I have to do to earn your business today" line which was lame because I told Jared explicitly I was planning to test drive a couple other brands and would make up my mind next week which Chris had acknowledged. The bottom line I wish I'd read the Yelp Reviews first and saved a couple hours of my day. If I end up buying a Subaru (It's up at the top of my list there with the Honda CR-V) I'll buy from another dealer so don't feel I have to wash that slimy feeling off when I leave. read more

If I could, I would give Capitol Subaru 6 stars. I did my homework and checked out numerous Subaru Forester LL Bean Limited Edition cars online from Salem to Oregon City to Portland to Vancouver. Not brand new but one a few years old that looked new with low mileage........ and we found it at Capitol Subaru. Jesus was absolutely fabulous and very, very patient. The car that we bought is almost like new and beautiful. I sent a message through Car Fax and Riley responded twice but when we went in, Riley was busy with another customer so Jesus made the deal (Riley gets the sale). Jesus was friendly and answered all our questions and after two hours or so, we agreed on a price and we paid cash so it expedited the deal for the car and we were off. There was never any pressure and nothing but courteous service. There is a nice lounge with complimentary fruit, great cookies, hot chocolate, coffee and a variety of teas. I had been looking at the cool key chains and asked Jesus nicely if I could have one. I might have threatened him a little to hand over my favorite one but he just smiled and handed it to me. I love it. It's long and lean like me. Ha! Thank you Capitol, I will recomend you to anyone looking for a new car. My '86 Subaru is still running so we're keeping it but I'll make my husband drive it and I'll drive my new purchase. I have never had a red car. Actually, this one is more burgundy then red and I love it. Subarus are fantastic cars. Thank you, Juan and Riley and Capitol Subaru's very own Matthew McConaughey look alike!!! You were all great. I purchased a new Crosstrek here last fall and had a terrible experience. I was really excited to buy my first Subaru but the low customer service standards of Capitol Subaru have soured me on the Subaru brand. Besides the initial purchase I have been to the dealership on three occasions. When I purchased the vehicle the salesperson was sketchy and would not give me a written or verbal statement of the trade-in value of my precious vehicle. I had to stop the interaction and threaten to walk out before they would tell me how much I was receiving for my trade-in. I was also given an absolutely ridiculous (11.9%) interest for my loan. I told the sales manager that I wanted financing through my credit union. The manager told me that he would arrange the financing. When I returned several days later to sign the papers, the interest rate was listed as 11.9% through another bank. I had to call my credit union myself to arrange the financing at 3.99%. They clearly did not care how much interest I paid on the loan. They only wanted me to sign the papers. During my other visits for service there are several other items in which I would like to comment: -You are NEVER greeted when you pull your car into the service bay. There is no one there so you have to stand outside of your car looking goofy until you give up and have a seat in the lobby. They might notice that your car is in the bay and eventually find you in the waiting area. -Most of the staff are friendly but some are very rude. Regardless of their demeanor, nobody is really interested in answering questions or helping you in a professional amber. -Don't come here on rainy days. Instead of pulling your car up to the front door or back into the service bay, the attendants will park your car across the lot so you have to walk in the rain to your car. The only redeeming quality for this dealership (and the only reason I continue to do business with them) is the fact that they support the local Humane Society. I hope they can pull their act together but Capitol Subaru has a long way to go to win me over. read more

I had an inexcusable experience with Capitol Subaru. Please read this review to understand how you can expect to be treated from this dealership. I'm in the market for a limited edition Subaru BRZ Series Blue. Capitol Subaru sold their allotment of the limited edition (apparently each dealership can only sell a certain number). Many times I asked Capitol Subaru if they could locate a Subaru BRZ Series Blue, and each time I was told "none exist on the West Coast." A salesperson there by the name of Jackie lied to my face in telling me that. Despite Capitol Subaru telling me their internal systems are tied to all other Subaru dealerships in the US, apparently Capitol Subaru has never heard of the Internet, because a one-minute search revealed 2 of the exact cars I want in Vancouver, WA. I called that dealer (Dick Hannah Subaru) and they confirmed to me that yes, they have the cars on their lot. One of the two cars was even in its showroom. So Capital Subaru searched their internal system and couldn't find my car anywhere on the West Coast, but the Internet found two new cars less than 100 miles from me? Clearly, Capitol Subaru's intent was to not find me the car I wanted, but rather to get me to buy a different Subaru. I bought the BRZ two days ago from Dick Hannah in Vancouver. My roommate is in the process of leasing a 2014 Subaru Forester. Had Jackie and Capitol Subaru told me the truth about the BRZ, he would be leasing it from Capitol Subaru. Instead, he's leasing it elsewhere. They've lost his business and the business of every person I know and will ever meet. When a car dealership puts its own self-serving interests ahead of the customer is when you know to avoid that car dealership. read more

We purchased our 4th Subaru (3rd from this dealer) in October and everything about our 3rd experience here was perfect. Juan met us in the parking lot on a rainy Sunday and was more than kind, helpful and patient. There was a little computer glitch while he was entering our information and he handled it was ease. Juan was professional, courteous and we were very grateful that we got him for our salesman! In addition to Juan, Jermaine was also there to help expedite our process and just helped things flow smoother overall. Not to mention, he gifted our little dog w/ a toy Subaru, how awesome is that! I negotiated with the salesperson for a used Subaru Impreza. I clearly stated multiple times fleet was OK, but I did not want a former rental. Got the car home and opened the glove box, and the manual was in a Hertz jacket. The car was a rental, and the salesperson flat out lied to me. In addition - the car was supposed to be "certified", found out later that it had been driven over a curb, ripping off the oil pan cover, and damaging the muffler (among other things on the underside of the car). Had to put up with rattling/vibrations from the muffler and undercarriage for years. Another example of the dishonesty of the used car teams at Capitol (see my review on Capitol Chevrolet). Spent close to $100,000 over the last 16 years there, will nit spend another penny. 4 licensed drivers in the family and 2 cars being bought in the next 6-months. None will be at a Capitol dealership! read more

This is to say Thank You to Jason Arritola and the Service Team At Capitol Subaru. My wife and I were driving through Oregon on our way to the Northern Washington area and experienced a major failure on our 2013 Subaru Outback when the compressor clutch failed, throwing the belt which runs the compressor, the alternator and the power steering. We limped into the service bay just 15 minutes from closing on Saturday the 7th of November thinking our entire trip was about to get derailed as a new compressor was not something any dealer would stock, and it would be Tuesday earliest before they could install it along with a new belt. Instead, we were amazed as Jason helped us secure a car and we were back on the road within 30 minutes. The repairs were completed perfectly the following Tuesday as promised and we came back to pickup our clean and perfectly running Outback. Since that date I have had to drive the vehicle all the way to LA and back and have had no problems, good as new. The service department here is highly disorganized. I Brought my vehicle in for service which they promptly "misplaced." Then they found it and then lost it again. The process seems to happen a lot. They don't seem to be using any kind of software for tracking the vehicles beyond google docs which I find rather unprofessional. Calling them is worse: you get transferred and put on hold multiple times (probably because they can't find your paperwork) and then transferred to a voicemail that is never answered. This place is a huge disappointment and I would recommend driving your Subaru to Portland for service. read more

We've taken our 2005 outback and 2012 impreza in for services on multiple occasions, and get poor results every time. Twice now we paid in the thousands of dollars for a repair, got the car back, and had the check-engine light come on either just as we got close to home or a couple days later, only to spend hundreds more for "new" repairs conveniently unrelated to the first job--even though the exact same trouble code was being thrown. Once they actually forgot to plug in a wiring harness component. My wife was understandably frustrated on the phone when she setup the last re-repair appointment and made sure to secure a loaner car for her troubles, which they agreed to do. But when I dropped the car off the service rep, Jordan, insisted that he "NEVER promises a loaner car" and seemed offended and upset that we were asking for one. He and the cashiers were generally rude and couldn't find the paperwork (it was under another pile of unorganized papers). The impression they gave me is that they can charge what they want and run sub-par service because you don't have a lot of options with a broken vehicle. So you either pay and deal with the hassle, or don't. But if you don't they have a line of other people who will, so it's just about them cycling as many people through the system as they can. At no point did I feel that they cared about our needs or concerns. My family and I have owned half a dozen Subarus in the last decade, but I think I'm done with them, and I will recommend the same to my mother who was just about ready to get a new one. I emailed them with my inquiry, laying out my situation and desire to trade in my car that I still owed on for something more reliable. They responded by email and then later text message. I was able to easily communicate electronically back and forth all the way up until it was time to go in and finalize a deal. They worked with me and made accommodations for a speed bump that came up along the way. It was a smooth exchange. I sent my email late Thursday, I was driving my new car Saturday. "Beware"! I had several phone conversations about a used $29,000 Tundra they had listed on line and was assured it was in excellent condition. So we felt pretty good about the 650 mile drive based on the provided pic's and reviews. When we arrived, we immediately noticed the tires were very worn and barely legal. I pleaded with them about the dangerous tire condition and our long drive back home at night but they did not care. I even offered to pay half of the tire replacement and they refused. Essentially taking advantage of how far we had come and allowing us to drive off the lot and 650 miles home on a dangerous set of tires. Shame on you guys! read more

I am being sued, my credit score has dropped over 100 points, and they have not done a damn thing to even try to work it out with me! Worst customer service ever!! Never, I repeat, NEVER buy a vehicle from this dealership. They say things will go one way then do them the exact opposite. They said the credit checks would be soft checks and would not go on my credit. I have 5 hard checks on my credit from them trying to find a loan. We traded in a vehicle and we put money down by doing a couple payments. They forgot to charge the last payment of the down payment and they did not pay off the traded in vehicle for over 2 months after we no longer had it. Yeah guess who got knocked on his credit for 60 day late payments on a vehicle he thought would've been payed off immediately!! But, once they found out they didnt get THEIR last payement, I got one letter in the mail that I wasn't even able to respond to before they sent it off to a collections agency. They sure as hell picked a great collections place too. Just got served a letter saying we are being sued by the place for the money that was not taken out by the dealer plus a laundry list of fees for the cost to sue us. DO NOT GO TO THIS DEALER!! You will regret it!! Worst car dealership in the country! I'd rather buy a car from Harvey Weinstein. He is more trustworthy than this place. They replied to my review on facebook which this is a copy of, but it was obviously an automated reply, then after sending another email I got nothing. So I asked if they got my email. To which I received an email that may very well have been written by a child and offered no help. At this point I'm more pissed off and truly hope everyone who reads this stays far far away from this place. read more

Terrible experience with these people. We called the day before arriving to check on available models in stock as we are an hour drive away, and the sales manager told us to come on in because they had what we wanted, but it was a lie. They only had it on order, and priced $1,800 MORE than we were quoted by a dealership closer to us. Then the salesman wasted our time trying to sell us options we TOLD HIM we did not want, and he kept playing the "let me go talk to my manager," sales game. We never met the sales manager and in the end we just walked out. What a terrible experience. Avoid this place. read more

Took my Subaru in when my clutch went out. There was no notice.. was out running errands one day and it started sticking, whistling, etc. (Disclaimer: I bought the car at another dealership, was just coming here for maintenance).. I drove straight to the dealership to have it looked at and by the time I got there, you could smell it burning. The first woman I talked to seemed a little annoyed I didn't have an appointment (of course I didn't, I drove straight there when it happened.. and barely made it. ) The second woman was incredibly nice and helpful. I paid their diagnostic fee and sure enough, clutch was done for. They originally weren't going to be able to get it done same day, but made it happen. I was able to pick my car up that evening, which I was thrilled about. They also proactively changed out my wiper arm that had been recalled. My bill was $2k for the clutch and I believe $100 for the diagnostics. They asked if I wanted my tires rotated for like $13 bucks or something, which I declined. It seems like when someone's dropping that kind of cash, that would be something you could throw in. Or maybe a complimentary vacuuming? I was really happy overall, but felt like they wanted to nickel and dime me a little there at the end. read more

I have to say we had one of the least painful experiences ever at a dealership (haha). We came in originally to see used cars, but were approached Grant Olson, who right off the bat was friendly and not pushy at all. He showed us the used cars and after knowing what we wanted mentioned we might be able to get a new one. He took his time and really listened to what we wanted without trying to push anything we didn't want or need. He was funny and when we went to go make a deal he shared with us cool places to go (we are new to the area). After making the deal there were no hidden fees, everyone was transparent and friendly, and we walked out with a brand new 2018 Subaru Outback, which we couldn't be happier with. This place really sets the bar for great customer service. While browsing Subaru's online I saw the car I wanted actually listed in the middle range of KBB's fair market price listing. After searching for a couple of months it's not something you see very often. I called and Stacey answered the phone. I asked for the best price on the vehicle and he called me back within minutes. I said if the test drive went well I would happily buy it at that price. They had no problem holding the car for me while I made the trip down from Hillsboro. When I got there the car was pulled up front and ready to go. I was greeted right away, and Stacey came right over. We went to the car and he went over controls and features. After a few minutes of driving I knew it was the car for me! Back at the dealership I said I was ready to purchase the car. Stacey was very pleasant and efficient at preparing all of the paperwork. I wasn't sure about the down payment amount and term I wanted so he showed me a spread of options so I could pick the right fit for me. In about an hour I was ready to head home in my very own Subaru Forester. To send me off Stacey came over and made sure the dash time/date was accurate and that my phone was paired for music on the way home. After several bad experiences with dealerships in the Portland area this experience was a breath of fresh air. Dare I say enjoyable? If I could, I would give this place zero stars. My entire experience was horrible. I bought a used Honda Pilot from Capitol just under two months ago. When I picked up my car, I went to the receptionist desk, she was on the phone so I patiently waited. Then another employee walked up. When the receptionist got off the phone, instead of helping me, she turned to the other woman and they talked about a bagel order. Only when she was done with that did she even look at me. She told me that I could pick up my key with Mike and where to find him. He gave me my keys and I walked out the door to find that one set didn't work. I walked back in and told him it wasn't working and asked if I could get the battery on the key checked. He said I would have to take it to a Honda dealer because they have to hook it up to a computer. Come to find out when I did take it there, it was just the battery and anyone could have replaced it. He was just lazy and unhelpful. Fast forward 2 months...I notice a vibration in my engine and my check engine light comes on. I take it to the Honda dealer and come to find out, I need a new transmission. Jackie, my sales person at Capitol Subaru told me that all their cars go through thorough inspections. I asked specifically about this car's transmission and she assured me that it was checked. She even told me that once they had someone drive off the lot and their transmission broke, so they replaced it immediately because they didn't want their customers to have a bad experience. I thought she was telling me this to show how well they treat their customers and that they take care of them but apparently, this is a common problem for them. When I called the dealership about the problem I left a message on Mike's voice mail. I received a call from Stephanie, she asked me to email the reports I was given from Honda to Mike and that he would call me the next day. In the email I stated I wanted any service records they had on the car (I never received them). I got a call back from Jackie saying that Mike was really busy and that he was calling the warranty company to make sure it was covered under my warranty. Ok, good. Then I get a call from someone in the service department asking when I can get the car down to Salem (I live in Portland) so they can look at it to see if it needs to be fixed and that they could put me in a loaner car. I said that I thought it would be better if they came to get it because I didn't feel comfortable with driving it down there. He said they won't do that and I told him that was unacceptable. He then said, "I'm done talking to you" and hung up on me! I wasn't even mad yet! But that surely pissed me off. So I called Mike, again got his voice mail. Left a message telling him what happened and that I wanted to hear from him by the end of the day. I got a call about an hour later, he said that the repair was covered under my warranty. Great. Good. But then that was it. No sorry, nothing. So, I called the President, Scott. Got his voice mail (surprise) and explained what happened and how it was bullsh!t that he allows his staff to treat customers this way. Not only will I never buy from Capitol Subaru again, I will tell anyone I know looking for a car to never consider them. Because frankly, this was awful and absolutely the WORST customer service experience I have EVER had. read more
