Just had lunch there with my son daughter-in-law and grandson and had an excellent lunch. They're 1099 lunch special is more than enough to eat. I had a half a meatball sandwich and it was the size of a meatball sandwich because their meatballs are the size of baseballs my son had pizza my daughter-in-law had a regular menu item of the pesto pasta and my grandson had fettuccine. The waitress took care of us made sure we always had plenty to drink and was polite. The food was a little salty but that could be because of the large amount of mozzarella cheese on everything. read more

My spaghetti was ok (nothing special, but I would eat it again) and the garlic toast good. The salad is nothing special and, instead of dressing the salad in the kitchen, they hand you a screw-cap bottle of their "house salad dressing" that you shake, unscrew, pour onto your salad, then hopefully everyone REcaps the bottle (no telling how old the oil is or who has spit into it, etc. - NOT a sanitary way to serve IMO, but I know nothing about the sanitation rules, if any, in the area; this place would be shutdown elsewhere). So, the problem: My husband has been wanting a crispy perfectly toasted Italian Submarine sandwich for a long time and since we aren't in San Antonio all the time, have not experienced any Italian restaurants in the area. Unlike the Domino's sub sandwiches at home, the local Domino's sub is soggy and fatty, so we continued looking. Unfortunately, the people at Capparelli's did not understand us well (we speak English, but it is clearly not their first language, so that could explain the confusion on their part) and they brought my husband their "famous" sausage sandwich, which he did NOT order (and would never order). When I told the server my husband ordered the submarine sandwich, NOT the sausage sandwich, he apparently did not understand what I said and walked away, then another person came by and assumed we could not read the menu properly, apparently, because when I told her my husband ordered the submarine sandwich, she told us we did not understand their menu and started to tell us about their sandwiches (as if we are unable to read the menu, which states "OVEN BAKED SANDWICHES, which are alleged to be "served on homemade rolls and toasted to perfection," under which is listed "your choice of meatball, sausage, chicken parmesean, submarine and super sloppy sandwiches"). She said "we have the meatball sandwich, the sausage sandwich and the chicken Parmesan sandwich." I said, "so you no longer have a submarine sandwich, as it says on your menu?" She said they do have that sandwich available, but that my husband ordered the sausage sandwich. I again told her that my husband ordered the submarine sandwich, after which she said she was sorry and could she bring us a submarine sandwich. To digress, he NEVER orders sandwiches like their sausage sandwich or chicken parm sandwich because they all get soggy bottoms and are messy, PLUS he does not like them anyway - these are sausage patties, not actual sausages, as with onions and peppers, like they should be). By then, my husband had eaten half the sandwich (minus the soggy bottom rolls, which he tossed aside, and ate using a knife and fork), so at that point, it was not worth bothering. Also, he said the sausage was very bland. Anyway, I knew my husband and I would NEVER be back. Being an American born man of Italian ancestry (his mother was from Naples and father from Sicily), he gives any place a chance and, when there is an obvious problem, that they are unable to get orders correct, or the food is not good, or the place is dirty, or any other infraction by his standards, that is it for us. Mind you, where we live most of the time, there are many people whose first language is not English, but there are no language barriers at all and they are able to speak and understand English. Perhaps when Caparelli Bros. was owned by the actual Caparelli brothers (if that was ever the case), as suggested by someone else who posted, the food was good, but not now. Pizza has good taste, but they don't proportion the toppings and cheese adequately on the entire pizza... needs improvement for price.

Deserves zero or less stars. Stopped by on my way home to place a couple of to go orders. Never been to this location before. Was about 6:15 pm on a Friday evening so expected them to be busy but they weren't. Only had one table of 4 customers in the place and me. As other Capparelli's locations I visit are often "stingy" with the amount of marinara sauce on my pasta, I asked if they could put a little extra sauce on my order of spaghetti. I was told they would for an extra charge of $4--which would result in a cost of $15 for an order of spaghetti! This place isn't that "fancy" by any stretch of the imagination! Then they wanted to charge me an additional $3 to substitute Alfredo sauce for the marinara sauce on an order of ravioli. Plus would have been another extra charge of $4 for a little extra sauce for this second pasta order. Wow! Needless to say, I told them I'd take my business elsewhere. And this was after I had told them it was my first time to visit their restaurant. Now it's my first, and last, attempt to give them my business! And they obviously didn't care at all. read more

We are so happy to have such a nice Italian restaurant within our community. Lovely small restaurant, great food...chicken or eggplant parm is scrumptious. Plenty to eat, good pricing. Great service! Just moved near by so we have only had take out so far but the food is ok and reasonably priced if you are looking for a quick lunch or dinner. My husband had the lasagna once and pizza once and said it was great. I've had the eggplant parm, fettuccine alfredo with shrimp both were good. Good food.... Staff needs some work... While I was eating some guy in the kitchen was complaining at the hostess to go do something and stop standing around. I get his point but.... Placed a to-go order (pizza and salad). Said it would take 30 to 45 minutes. Arrived about 35 minutes and was told it would be about 5 minutes and we're asked to wait outside and they would come get us. We wait over 10 minutes and they didn't come get us, so I went in to ask. That's when we found out that they lost our ticket in the kitchen. Then we have to wait another 30 minutes for our order. Aside from an "I'm sorry sir," they could care less and made no offers to make up for the terrible service. We ended up having to pay full price for food that took over a hour and a half to get! They are extremely small and very disorganized. They have no waiting area and, because they are so small, you stand on the sidewalk / porch waiting. That didnt work very well for my wife that is wearing a boot on her foot because she has a broken ankle. Additiinally, now they are charging a $7 corkage fee, when they don't even sell wine yet. I also wasn't the only one that they messed up a to-go order on. Ok, a little added. The pizza and salad, after 1.5 hours was good. Glen ended up not charging us for the food. However, when he realized (an hour into the issue) that they screwed up, he should have gave us a seat, poured us some wine, fed us our salads, and told us that the meal would be on the house. instead we waited outside for the order. He did say that he understood the result reflected badly and wanted to make it up on a future visit. I adjusted by review from a 1 to a 2...still a disappointing experience. We will give them a second chance because the food is very good as is the Capparelli trademark. read more

I expected more. I had the eggplant parmigiana and it was by far the worse I have ever had. I got 3 slices of eggplant and one was so tough that I couldn't even cut it with my knife! I'm not sure but it could have been the rind of the eggplant. Two splices were edible, but way overcooked and hard around the edges. The pasta was OK and the red (marinara) sauce was tasty. The meatballs ordered at my table were really just a huge balls of ground beef with no real flavor. I could have eaten this well with a jar of Ragu! The cheese pizza ordered at our table looked pretty good, but with Papa Johns next door, I probably won't order that at Capparellis. There are very few restaurants in the Fair Oaks region, and I suppose this accounts for why they have so many customers. I would have complained while at the restaurant, but from the attitude of our waitress, she couldn't care less. read more

Been here a few times never had a problem. Called in the phone to place an order for my gf to pick it up. They said to give them a minute and if it's okay place me on hold. Of course we're all busy no problem. I was placed on hold for 15min listening to everything in the background hearing them laughing and joking. After about minute 12 I started yelling "hello?!?" I heard them move the phone and then it just hung up. I had to call back 2 times for them to finally answer me again. She finally answered and apologized and said she was busy. Not too busy to stop and talk shop and joke and then hang up on me I suppose. I told her that I could head them and she just pretended to not hear me and asked what I wanted. I loved this place. Never had an issue until now. Customer service has plummeted to a 0 for me. I placed an order anyways and asked if I could pay over the phone so my gf can just pick it up on her way home. She didn't seem to understand what I was asking and just ignored that I had asked her that like 3 times and just went over my order again with me and as soon as I confirmed it she hung up. I'm gonna call back and cancel my order and probably never come back. This is my first yelp review I normally just let these things go but this got me heated. read more

Have been going to Capparelli's in San Antonio since the mid-60's. Best meatballs and red sauce in town. I am so glad they have moved to Fair Oaks and we can eat something other than Mexican food. Their food has always been consistently superior. I highly recommend anything on the menu! read more

Can't recommend this place highly enough. The menu is not very big, but with food this good, it doesn't need to be. I came for lunch, and they lunch menu has a good choice of pastas or pizza. I went with a pizza. Lunch included garlic bread, salad, pizza, and a drink for one price. The salad is fresh, and they bring you a bottle of dressing to add yourself. The garlic bread was made fresh and hot. The pizza was personal size, but was loaded with toppings. I will definitely be back again and again. read more

This is a great place to get your fix for some delicious Italian food! The atmosphere here is my favorite part, small hole in the wall type place but well decorated, clean, and best of all old Italian music playing.
