Renzo's absolutely knocked it out of the park during my recent visit. I was there with my book club, which is a LARGE group. Coordinating a big table can be tricky, but the service here was *outstanding* from start to finish. Our server kept everything organized, drinks refilled, and plates coming out smoothly without anyone feeling rushed. Everyone in our group felt really well taken care of, which made the whole evening relaxed and fun. The food was just as impressive. Truly every person at the table seemed to love what they ordered -- we had a lot of "you have to try this!" moments being passed around the table. One thing I especially appreciated was the Caesar salad. I noticed another review mentioning the anchovy flavor in the dressing as a negative, but in my opinion, that's exactly what made it great. For me a Caesar should have that briny anchovy depth, and this one tasted freshly made and perfectly balanced. It felt authentic and thoughtfully prepared. Tried this Italian restaurant for the first time. Had dinner on a Monday night and it wasn't busy when we got here. Mondays are all day happy hour so that was a nice surprise. Had the pasta carbonara with the Caesar salad. Pasta carbonara was tasty, the Caesar Salad had a bit too much anchovy taste. The best appetizer was the buffalo burrata. It was a bit show when we went - we try different Happy Hours on Wednesdays or Thursdays. This location is right in the parking lot of Living Spaces and it's all by itself when it comes to places to eat in that lil section. My friend told me she enjoyed lunch here so I looked it up and was delighted there was a happy hour. We got some discounted cocktails and tried a happy hour pizza. It's the same size pizza as regular menu. The drinks and pizza was great. We subbed out the pesto on the pizza for reg red sauce since my hubby doesn't like pesto. I really enjoyed coming to this restaurant yesterday evening. The service was impeccable. Our server made we were well taken care of and we received our drinks and our food very quickly. My husband ordered the Mexican pizza and I got the Cacio Pepe with shrimp. Both of our dishes were delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Additionally, the drink menu had lots of options and we both enjoyed our wine and cocktails. My favorite part of dinner was my cup of tomato soup which was delicious along with the garlic bread. Upon walking outside and into the restaurant I was surprised that it was in a strip center for one and how small it is inside. We were seated right away. The service throughout the meal was very inattentive. Water glass left empty a lot, at least leave a carafe if you won't come to the table! The food itself was pretty mid and lacking flavor. The penne in the bolognese was noticeably overcooked and splitting, which wasn't the end of the world, but definitely shouldn't happen at this price point. We made a reservation for 6:30 on a Saturday and showed up around 6:20. No waiting around--they sat us right away, and the hosts were super friendly and welcoming. A great start. Our server, Mike, was fantastic. He was friendly, knew the menu well, and was refreshingly honest about the food. His recommendations were on point and didn't feel pushy at all. We kicked things off with drinks. My wife ordered the limoncello martini, which was bright, lemony, and not overly sweet. Turns out they make the limoncello in-house, and you can tell--it was really fresh. One was just the right amount. I had the Dolce Vita cocktail, which had a great mix of whiskey, vanilla-infused demerara, and walnut bitters. Smooth and balanced--nothing overpowered the other. For the antipasti, we split the fritto misto. The shrimp and calamari were perfectly crispy, with more calamari than shrimp, but still a good portion. What stood out was the arugula--it wasn't just for garnish. It added a peppery, citrusy bite that really elevated the dish. For our mains, my wife went with the carbonara--a solid portion, not overly creamy, and a perfect ratio of spaghetti to pancetta. The spaghetti was cooked just right. I had the short rib ravioli alla vodka--rich and creamy with just the right kick of spice. The ravioli were big and stuffed, served piping hot and full of flavor. We weren't done yet--we ended the meal with another round of drinks. The espresso martini was a showstopper: not too bitter, creamy froth, and beautifully presented. My wife joked she could've had 20 more. I ordered the carajillo, which had a great blend of cocoa and cinnamon. The flavors were rich, warm, and smooth--definitely a must for coffee lovers. Overall, the experience was excellent. The ambiance was lovely, music was at a perfect volume, and service throughout was great. For small boutique Italian I love Pesto in Olmos Park and Umberto's on Culebra. Renzo's is in the boutique or small business category, satisfied but did not wow today when we went for Brunch. I feel like the ambiance and experience would be better at night. The space is sort of strip mall sterile, but aspiring with incongruous details like laminated menus and luxuriant leather check holders. We arrive and the guy asks if we have reservations. I was oh brother, it came across as pretentious. Then he took us to a wobbly table which he did fix but it was something they should have done earlier, not while we are seated. Servers were attentive, I had constant refills, a nice plus! I had the Verdure which looked great in the pictures, it is basically small conchas (shells) in a creamy cheese sauce. I added grilled chicken. The chicken and for that matter the meatball in the meatball panini did not taste seasoned, basically just cooked meat. The chickee had a smokey char taste, not bad, but the chicken may have benefited from being soaked in a tasty brine overnight. We ordered caccio de pepe and the margherita pizza to go. I liked the packaging of the To Go, a large branded paper bag with handle and a plastic container suitable for reheating in the microwave. This place is awesome. ATMOSPHERE: Located at a super non-crowded area next to Living Spaces with tons of parking, Renzo's is such a nice, classy restaurant. Candle lights, overhead string lights on the patio, a beautiful mural, the whole nine yards. FOOD: Everything we've had here has been delicious. My favorite dish is the Verdure (pictured below) that has a fantastic Bianca sauce on top of the unique orecchiette pasta. We also love the Cacio e pepe pasta that they do wonderfully here. Seasonings have always been great and pasta/meats have never been overdone or cooked poorly in our experience. DRINKS: The few cocktails I've tried have been good. Pictured below is the lavender mule but I substituted blackberry for lavender. For the wine list, they provide a nice selection of bottles and glass options. Specifically, we've had a good experience with the Nerello Rosato and the Paso Robles Cabernet. Overall, this place is fantastic, and they even have some great live music on weekends we've been able to enjoy. Recently, we listened to a very talented lady play the keyboard and sing fantastic jazzy, R&B tunes. They do bring you more and desired. My friend had the spaghetti Pomodoro with chicken. I had the quinoa tuna bowl. The tuna bowl has an asian flare. The tuna is raw. I had great flavor. The avocado and cucumbers complemented the bowl well. I tried out the lavender mule. It was pretty good. I was able to get the lavender flavor from it. Sometimes you buy drinks and you can't even taste the lavender. They have inside and outside seating. Parking is available on site. I did take a small cake for my friends birthday. Wednesday, we headed back to @renzostx for dinner and happy hour. Happy hour ends at 6pm. There are both food and drink specials. The last time we sat out in the patio and there was live music. This time we sat indoors. Dad had Lemonade, Hubby had Capri Island, and I had the Nero E Blue Mojito. We started out by sharing the Carpaccio Di Manzo. Love the thinly sliced meat! Just melts in your mouth yumminess! Dad and I shared the Verdure. Hubby had the Bolognese with meatball. We all shared the Renzo pizza. The cured meats were too much for us with the saltiness and thankfully, Samantha, the manager, changed it to the Capri pizza instead. Plenty of pizza to take home and enjoy another time. Came for dinner on a Thursday night and you would've thought it was Saturday the way it was packed in there. Live music going on, tables packed, bar packed. Great weather for patio dining so we requested a table outside. Our server Mike was on point. It was our first time so he gave wine, cocktails and meal recommendations which we really appreciate. We started with the garlic bread and butter, an espresso martini and Renzo's margarita. Drinks were soooo good. I loved my martini, perfectly espresso'd and the margarita was crafted so well. The bread isn't complimentary which was kind of a bummer but $3 isn't bad. I do wish it came with marinara or some type of dipping oil or even more butter, but overall nice to have with the meal. There are so many appetizing dishes on the menu, it makes it really hard to decide. We relied on our cravings, Yelp photos and server recommendations to make a final decision. The way the menu is set up, definitely feels like it'd be hard to make a wrong choice but I just had to have the best on my first time. I was looking to try something new, something exciting. After long and hard consideration, we both landed on the Verdure with grilled chicken. Came highly recommended on Yelp and by our server. It was a HIT! Absolutely loved this plate. The sauce is well balanced and the chicken was seasoned perfectly. I'm a sucker for char on my chicken so I would've eaten it alittle more "burned", deeper grill marks BUT it was perfect regardless. Great great great meal. The mushrooms, the cherry tomatoes, everything so fresh. It was probably one of the lightest pasta dishes I've eaten in a long time. I ate my whole plate which is the first for pasta. If it's your first time, don't waste time debating, get the Verdure and then line up your next option because you will be back and it's always fun to try something new. My husband and I decided to celebrate our 44th wedding anniversary at Renzo's. We made the reservation on line and indicated we were celebrating our anniversary on the on line form when it asked if it was a special occasion. We were seated immediately and got to pick our table since we had an early reservation. We had three servers--the primary server and two bar tenders. They were all very polite and the service was efficient. We had the burrata as an appetizer that was excellent. Both of our pasta dishes were delicious. I can't give the restaurant 5 stars because absolutely nothing was mentioned about our anniversary. They should pay more attention to the reservations.
