It was my first time dining at Capri Lasagneria and I really enjoyed it. From the food to the service to the overall ambience, everything just came together nicely. We came in for an early dinner and were seated immediately. We also had our toddler with us. I'm not sure if they always bring out focaccia right away, but they did for us, and it kept him very happy while we settled in. Capri Lasagneria had six specials that night, which added a nice variety to the menu. We ordered one of the specials which was the short rib tortellini. The tortellini pieces were a bit larger than what I'm used to, but I didn't mind at all. They were soft, really flavorful, and super filling. Portions overall felt generous. Of course we had to get a lasagna and we went with the Italian sausage. We were surprised that you can actually taste a bit of spice in it. Not overly spicy, but enough to give each bite a little kick. We also did a build your own pasta for our toddler, who happily slurped up a fettuccine alfredo. I tried a bit myself and thought it was really good too. Service was attentive throughout, but what really stood out was a small moment. Our toddler dropped his personal fork. One of the servers picked it up and asked if we wanted it cleaned, then took care of it for us. Such a simple gesture but it made a big impression. The complimentary bread is technically only available upon request as said in the menu, but our thoughtful server brought it out automatically. The various pastas were perfectly al dente, the seafood was remarkably fresh, the tomato meat sauce was rich and flavorful, and the lasagna had the ideal level of moisture. I'm torn about this spot. Right off the bat, the ambiance is super cute with incredible staff that make you feel like you were transported to the streets of Italy. But unfortunately, the food was average at best. The handmade focaccia brought out at the beginning of the meal, which I was so excited to try, was extremely stale. The flavor was good though! I also ordered the seasonal seafood linguine and was a bit underwhelmed. The flavors were ok but my main qualm was the temperature of the dish... the seafood was cold but the noodles had pockets where it was hot and pockets where it was lukewarm. For the amount I paid, I definitely feel like I could have gotten a better dish elsewhere. Similarly, my friend tried their vodka sauce lasagna which they thought needed a bit more seasoning. And my other fried got the build your own pasta which was good BUT she ordered meatballs and it didn't come until the end of the meal when most of us were done eating. The lasagnas are excellent. I have tried pollo alla vodka and the zuchini lasagna a couple times and keep coming back for more. The mushroom ravioli (specials menu) is one of my favorites. My friend and I were looking for some Italian food for the night and we hadn't been to this one yet. We popped by and were able to get seated immediately, despite having no reservations. I opted for the Italian sausage lasagna ($24) while my friend chose to make her own pasta and had pesto gnocchi ($20). The Italian sausage had just enough of a spicy kick to it. Both were great dishes and at affordable prices. We were also given some complimentary focaccia to start. The interior had cute decor but was playing extremely loud music and there were some exterior tables with bright yellow patio chairs, equipped with blankets. The service could really be improved--both my friend and I were uncomfortable with the service and felt like our waitress lacked patience and was nearly yelling at us, given the loud music playing. She also seemed short with us when we didn't want to order dessert and when we asked for boxes when we didn't finish our food. My only gripe is that the last time I went, our lasagna came out a little overcooked so some of the cheese is hard and the lasagna is a little on the dry side. That is to say, the lasagna can be a little inconsistent depending on the day. I've only tried one pasta and it was a special off menu item for the day - the truffle mushroom ravioli - a decadent and delicious dish. We got the seafood pasta special and the bolognese. The bolognese was horrible. The beef had a dry, grainy texture, and the sauce lacked flavor. The seafood pasta was interesting, but it wasn't my style. When it arrived at the table, there were chunks of butter still melting into the dish. It was far too rich and salty, and not in a way that complemented the seafood. It was very heavy and bloating, almost as if it had been made with heavy cream. I did like that the shrimp were huge and crunchy. The focaccia was also dry. The prices seemed fair at first, but then we noticed a $3 service charge on our $100+ bill. I have no idea what that was for, as there was no indication on the menu of a credit card fee or service charge. Overall, we won't be coming back. read more

I tried really hard to like this place, but it just wasn't for me. I was excited to try this place out since it's such a cute & quaint little spot. They're located in a busy block in Downtown Burlingame with indoor and outdoor seating. I had called a week before to make a reservation, and the man on the phone said they don't take any, which wasn't a problem since the two of us got seated right away. However, I did just notice they do take reservations via Yelp! My friend and I got the peach salad, bolognese lasagna, and zucchini pesto lasagna to share. We were also given focaccia, which was yummy. The peach salad was refreshing and was my favorite dish of the meal. Both lasagnas were overcooked and really mushy. The bolognese sauce was flavorful and meaty, but the mushiness of the lasagna noodles really threw me off. Both my friend and I Iiked the zucchini lasagna better in terms of texture, since the zucchini helped give it some bite. Tables are very close together, but it wasn't uncomfortable. However, service was really spotty, and by the time it was nearing the end of our meal, it was nearly impossible to flag down a server to get boxes and our check. We had asked for boxes 3 times before giving up and leaving our leftovers. Wish I had a better experience :( read more

The crispy gnocchi is a must get, perfectly crispy on the outside, pillow soft on the inside, with the perfect amount of salt, then dipped in the truffle sauce... yum! My husband and I love alfredo so we were very excited to try it, but it honestly the sauce it self didn't have very much flavor, but was very creamy and the pasta was amazing. I last minute chose the pesto and I am so happy I did. It was so fresh and made so well. We ended up mixing the left over alfredo in the pesto and it was so much better. Our friends got the regular lasagna, chicken lasagna, and the spicy Italian sausage lasagna, and they all enjoyed it. Our favorite was the chicken lasagna. I ordered a few appetizers, the gnocchi fritto (4/5) and the polpette al sugo (meatballs) (2/5). The fried gnocchi is a fun idea but a little too truffley for my taste. The meatballs were dense and made with an interesting flavor meat mixture. I was pretty turned off by the flavor. The red sauce that it came with kept it from being (1/5). The lasagna and pasta were hits. My wife and I shared the bolognese lasagna (5/5). Loved it...and so did my wife. The portion size is huge and definitely can be shared unless you want leftovers. My daughter and son-in-law loved their pasta and lasagna dishes. Very cute restaurant in downtown Burlingame. My friends and I happened to like the appetizers more than the lasagna! We got the burrata alla caprese (with added prosciutto) and that was super creamy and delicious. We also got the popette al sugo (meatballs) which were in a very tangy sauce with tender meat. We tried three different lasagnas: bolognese, Italian sausage, and pollo all vodka. The lasagnas were HUGE and you can easily share one lasagna between two people. We came here for Mother's Day this year and it was so much fun! The decorations are super cute and this place is very baby and dog friendly. We sat outside and got a highchair and a little corner for our dog! We ordered fettuccine with pesto and salmon and spaghetti bolognese with meatballs! The salmon was really tender and delicious. Was in search of a place to eat for dinner, and came across Capri on Yelp which had great reviews. We had to give it a try. To start we ordered the gnocci frita. The gnocchi was perfectly cooked, crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy inside. The sauce it was accompanied by was delicious. We finished the entire thing lol. I ordered the Lasagna Bolognese, which had to be one of the best lasagnas I've had in a restaurant. Perfectly balanced meat to noodle ratio (noodles also made in house), with a great blend of flavors. I really enjoy lasagna with bechamel sauce and this one did not disappoint. My 7 year old ordered the pesto rigatoni which she really enjoyed. The pesto tasted so fresh and didn't require the more popular creamy pesto variation you'd find at other establishments. However, the rigatoni was a bit more al dente than either of us would prefer it was still a solid option for her. What a lovely little place! We (party of 3) came on a Saturday night around 7pm. It was packed inside the restaurant so we sat outside. There were blankets available but the host Mikaela made sure that they also surrounded us with 2 heaters - as someone who's just always cold, I really appreciated that lol. The person who took care of us was Esra and she was just delightful. Super friendly, funny and sweet. We also loved that when she told us the special, she also said the prices for each special - so you avoid the part where you have to awkwardly ask about it. We got the Lasagna Bolognese, the Lasagna Italian Sausage, Soup of the Day (Cream of Mushroom), the Mushroom Ravioli and a salad. They also kept the foccasia coming- which was delicious! The portions of the lasagnas were huge! Both lasagnas were delicious- hearty, saucy, cheesy and full of flavors. The Mushroom Ravioli was my favorite though- it was perfectly al dente, creamy and just comforting. The tiramisu - we seriously didn't think that we could finish it because damn it's huge! But it was incredibly light yet creamy, also wasn't super sweet. It was a really nice way to end the meal! We also met Marco - the owner of the shop. He was really funny, and super passionate about food. You can tell that he really takes pride in what he does. Everything at Capri is freshly made in house daily - and we could really taste that. We went in to try their special of the day: seafood squid ink pasta. It was absolutely divine! They didn't hold off on the seafood. The pasta came with shrimp, clams, squid, mussels and fish. It was phenomenal! I had a bouquet of flowers that day and the waiters were super attentive. They let me borrow a wine cooler stand so I can put my flowers in it. I enjoyed my meal very much and I even had enough for leftovers because it was a huge serving. They even provided focaccia bread as appetizer. It was deadly baked and very delicious! We were so excited about a place that sounded like they specialize in lasagna...and the great reviews. The signature Bolognese lasagna was weirdly dry and tasteless with burnt overtones in the meat. The sausage lasagna was better but not great. The best of the lot were the corn and zucchini, and the chicken vodka.
