I have always enjoyed the food and have been to the restaurant several times. And all my previous visits I would have given them four or five stars. I'm writing this review because I called to make a reservation for this evening and because I'm a party of one was told I couldn't be given a reservation and my only option would be to eat at the bar if I showed up. Didn't have an amazing experience this evening. Our server was Dale - who seemed annoyed with us or his job from the start of dinner. The seafood platter had a hard casing/shell mixed in. It was hard enough to cut my gums. Mentioned to Dale (honestly thought it was plastic) he said it's just from the seafood dismissively and walked away. The hostess was picking at her nails the majority of the evening. Normally that wouldn't bother me but it was about 10' away from out table. I don't need an acrylic flying into my food. The food otherwise was okay... not horrible but not amazing. Truly hoping tonight was just an off night. The atmosphere and menu great. The support servers were great. The WORST restaurant experience of my life and I love restaurants! It's a girl's night out so we are determined to have a good time, but this place ruined it! 1st we ask for separate checks, the waiter says no, but he says he will charge the cc's separately. No, problem! We look at the menu, he tells us the specials. The menu has 7$ glasses if wine, yay! We put in our order for steaks 2 medium, one medium well, and some gnocchi [we should have known when the waiter offered the steaks as medium or medium rare only). The wine comes in a little pour carafe or little mini bottles..wha? The appetizers come hot and decent, not great, not horrible. My calamari was crispy. The cocktail sauce is lukewarm. The salads come before we finish our appetizers, since they only have two types of salad dressing (vinaigrette and um...vinagrette..) we ordered Ceasar: Served with your standard powdered parmesan cheese sprinkled on top, the wilted lettuce is too tangy and needs pepper. THERE ARE NO salt and pepper shakers on any tables, none! We roll our eyes drink a sip of the tiny wine portion and keep talking. The dinner comes before we finish our tiny salads ! Three of us order another glass of wine. We continue to chit chat, but notice the waiter staring at us, so we decide we better eat the steaks. They are ALL medium RARE!! My friend said the gnocchi tastes like chef boyardee made it. The waiter is STILL staring while we eat, WE FEEL VERY RUSHED .. we decide to take the rest home and cook it the rest of the way. A different waiter/assistant asks if we want to wrap our food up, we say yes. It's busy, and although we can tell they want the table, my friends want dessert and it's a girls night out, and we didn't come to be rushed! We ask about a dessert menu, he says he doesn't have one, but knows them. He rattles them off, they order. They are okay. Now, the check comes, 324 dollars!?!! FOR WHAT!! The waiter says he gave us a special wine, not the one listed in the menu, the undercooked (non-prime) steak specials were 42$ a piece!!! He takes our separate cards and the correct amounts and literally comes back within 1 minute saying he OVERCHARGED a card!! Why would you suggest doing separate cards, if you don't know how to do separate cards???? We have him cancel it, but now there is a 220$ charge on the card, instead of the 70$ charge it's supposed to be! One person decides not to tip him, but the other three give him 20%, we give him the books. The waiter OPENS THE BOOK AT THE TABLE AND COUNTS THE MONEY!!! He says he didn't get a tip from someone!!!! WHAT!?!? He sits there and argues until one of us, who already tipped 20% for underdone steaks, overpriced wine, and wilted salad tosses him 5 more dollars. I am shocked at the pathetic service and lack of quality of the food. To top it off, precisely 2.5 hours later, I start having the worst stomach cramps ever and gastroenteritis!!!!! We were there last Thursday night for a Christmas work party. We were a table of 9 upstairs and Tony was our server. The food was excellent and so was his service! We've been to Capri Sogno many times. The place is really cool. They took the inside of an older building and updated it, yet it still has all the charm of an older, very well kept restaurant from decades back. The owner, Chef Robert and his son Dario, who's the manager are two of the best hosts in the business. We always get treated very well and feel like family when we go there. Robert is just an amazing chef and obviously has a great staff in the kitchen. I can say we've never once had a bad meal there. We've tried most of the menu items since they opened, and each is pretty special in its own way. I prefer simple stuff, like Chicken Parm served over Angel Hair with their spicy red sauce. It's so tasty, I want it almost every time we go. My wife loves the various fish specials they have from time to time. These guys do magic with their fish dishes. It's always super fresh, and creatively prepared. The appetizers are above and beyond. The Calamari Capri is outstanding. Once again, super fresh, cooked to perfection and served with their awesome red sauce and lemon. Even the bread basket is special. It comes with roasted red peppers in a garlic olive oil sauce. It's hard not to just eat too much of that. The Bruschetta as simple as it is, it's just amazing and so delicious compared to so many other places we've been. Their desserts (if you have room) are heavenly. And a nice cappuccino always hits the spot with dessert. The wine program there is great. I don't drink, but my wife loves a little spot of bubbly before dinner and a nice red with her meal. They always have several great choices by the glass. The service, when it's super busy can get just a bit slow, but to me, that's a sign of a local family business doing well. That means a lot to me. I like to support local family owned businesses whenever I can. The price have gone up quite a bit since the pandemic, but so has the cost of everything else. I have no problem recommending Capri Sogno to friends and family all the time. I know Yelp doesn't particularly like raving reviews or terrible reviews. I'll be darned if I'm going to take away a star just so my review is seen. This place is 5 stars from every aspect. The place is nice and clean. The staff is friendly and courteous. My wife and I eat at Capri at least 3 or 4 times a year, it is my favorite restaurant for Italian cuisine. Unfortunately we had a bad experience yesterday, I had a reservation for 3 at 530 pm and my wife and I were running 5 minutes late. I called the restaurant as a courtesy to notify them I would be 3 to 5 min late and our third person would NOT be joining us, the individual that answered the phone was not pleasant and when I let him know he sounded like I was bothering him by calling ahead. We arrived at 533 I dropped my wife off at the door and I parked the car. When I got inside she notified me they were clearing a table for us. The host was answering calls and speaking with customers in the restaurant came to the counter and also reiterated that they were clearing a table at 540pm. At 545 a party of 3 walked in and let the host know they had 6 pm reservation in which he grabbed 3 menus and sat them immediately in the open table 30 feet from where we were standing. Now over the next 10 minutes we are standing there the host answers several calls including one call that asked if they could get a table and he reply's come on in we will find you a table? However never addressing us again about our table that was being cleared since 533pm. At 555pm I decided to walk out the door and called Oprah house that fit us in at 615pm no questions asked. I see several posts on here recently about host issues I think it is time for Capri to do a self check on customer service cause this has cost you business. read more

My husband and I had lunch there today with 2 other couples. The food was delicious but our waiter (Tony) was not acceptable. When we asked for more bread he looked at our table to make sure we really needed it. Started clearing our table before we were ready to leave. Hovered around our table waiting for us to pay our checks. We weren't even there an hour and seemed to rush us. There were only 3 tables (6 people) so it wasn't like the restaurant was busy. First and last time here! First impression upon entry was really good. Great ambiance -- loved the decor and music! Waiter was nice enough. The food was incredibly bland. I ordered the pasta with shrimp and broccoli. Broccoli was mushy and there was absolutely NO taste to the pasta or shrimp. My husband ordered the Piante di Mare and his too was tasteless. I pass by this spot in Plainfield on the way to work. We've walked up and down Lockport many a time and said numerous times we should stop; Well tonight we did. The Mrs and I came here on our anniversary and we're not disappointed at all. First things first- only the downstairs is open on the weekdays so seating is limited to @10 tables and the bar. So I would suggest reservations or get there before 7 like we did. There is plenty of outdoor seating which is very nicely done. People were rolling in when we left at 8, and I completely understand why- Food and service were outstanding. The staff was very attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and beyond polite. Our server Melissa recommended 2 dishes and she was spot on. We were asked countless times how was the food and if we needed anything. The atmosphere downstairs was extremely cozy and white linen while yet not being presumptuous. Nice sized and well appointed Bar should you need to wait. (Mrs and I said we'd eat at the Bar if no seating was available.) Let's start at at the beginning for the food. The bread is what I'd class as Arthur Ave in the Bronx Italian bead good. (fellow NY'ers will understand) And yes the Oil and Cheese are already on the table. On Melissa's suggestion we had the Calamari alla Capri for an appetizer which was very good. The sauce made the dish and the fry wasn't heavy at all. The serving was more than enough for 2 and perhaps even 4 Dinner time (getting full) I had the Pollo Limone and one again the sauce was very good. You get the pasta, in this case Mostaccioli, on the side with Red sauce. Personally I'd suggest angel hair on the plate mixed with the sauce. Hindsight being 20/20 I should have asked for that. I'll do so when we go back. My dish was $16. Mrs had had was the "daily special" which was called the fish special. A white flake fish sitting on a bed of green-beans with a butter/lemon sauce. Portion size was large and filling The staff heard it was our anniversary so presented us with a slice of chocolate heaven. I have no idea what it was, but holy crap it was good. We had the appetizer, two entries, coffee, 5 glasses of wine, one mixed drink for $125 including tax and tip. Side note- this is Italian Italian, not Americanized Italian. There is a ton of seafood on the menu. The folks next to us had The Potato Vesuvio appetizer which looked to be a meal in itself. We will be back and already have the Gnocchi Bolognese and Rigatoni di Casa targeted for the next meal. My only suggestions would be to offer the pasta on the side with sauce options and not charge $10 for mixed drink. This is the perfect place for the special date. I wanted a daiquiri but they couldn't make it so I settled for a Mojito. Next, for dinner I have been wanting chicken Marsala, our waiter quickly steered me away from that asking if I like sweet Marsala wine, really I don't know so I ordered a special, cavatelli, it was just ok. Went here twice in the past week. We've had the grilled octopus, sausage & peppers, and the veal Marsala. All passable, but not great. We sit at the bar, and both bartenders we've had we're very nice and attentive. The issue is with every other server employed there. At one point, there were 6 of them all standing at the end of the bar all playing on their phones. I don't know about you, but I don't need an audience while I eat. Then... The "manager" says that it's time to light the candles on the tables. NOBODY MOVES. Finally, the bartender, who's the only one doing anything so far, goes and lights all the candles. Also, I forgot to mention that the female (?) server with the long frizzy hair has not stopped eating since we walked in. So we went here for my wifes birthday and based on all of the good reviews we were pretty excited. The restaurant is very nice but LOUD!!!! I mean shouting across the table loud when they are busy. The service was slow, very slow. I think they either screwed up our order and didnt say anything or completely forgot about us becasue it took 45 minutes to get our food which in my opion is long for pasta. When we sat down the waitress told me about their specials and mentioned that they had a stuffed mushroom apetizer. I love stuffed Mushrroms so of course i ordered them. 3 decent size stuffed mushrroms, pretty tasty although kind of luke warm. When the bill came $16.95!! almost 17 bucks for mushrooms... ridiculous. I've seen some people mention how nice the owner is... Not on my visit. He spent the entire time i was there talking with the 2 tables next to ours and never once came over to ask how our food was as a matter of fact one of the few time our waitress actually came to the table she was interupted by the owner to come over to a different table. My wife and I ended up here on a Sunday afternoon right when they opened at 2pm. We frequent downtown Plainfield and wanted to try something different. We had a taste for pasta and this seemed perfect. The restaurant was very nicely decorated and had a good feel to it. Music was a little loud but bearable. We were the only ones in the place but did not receive the attention you would have expected. We ordered the caprese to start, each of us had the minestrone. My wife ordered the tilapia with lemon sauce/artichokes/sun dried tomatoes. I ordered the linguine with clams and white sauce. Appetizer and soup was good. No complaints at all on those. The fish was good but fairly basic. Artichokes were canned. It was weird that the pasta came with marinara since the fish had a lemon sauce. Linguine was ok. 100% not homemade pasta, definitely dried pasta, like the $1 box at the store. It was cooked very well though and not over/under done. Clams were plentiful and tasted normal. Very watery sauce though. The bartender used the F word at least 5 times while he was reading a bad review of the restaurant! Not very professional, good thing the kids weren't with us. Save the $75 and make pasta at home, it will taste the same. I will stick to the Wine and Cheese shop next door. read more

Pros: Decor Cons: Pricey, mediocre food I've been here twice. Once about a year ago and it was decent and again at the end of January 2016 and it was not. Stuffed mushroom appetizer was okay, but for $15.95 I expected a great deal more in both taste and quantity. Pollo Limone had a great sauce, but it was a single small butterflied chicken breast . For the price, I would expect two chicken breasts. The pasta came on the side with only a drizzle of a flavorless marinara sauce. Not a very good presentation. Pasta alla Mamma was okay. Unfortunately, this was something that most people can make successfully at home. When I go out to eat at a nicer restaurant I expect a dish above and beyond my basic culinary skills. Wine pours are measured out in little carafe glasses and poured in front of you... a little tacky and somewhat of a mechanical feel to it. For a dinner with two glasses of wine that was well over $70 (tip not included), I did not feel it was a good value nor did we leave the place feeling like we had just enjoyed some satisfying culinary creations. read more

Had an odd aftertaste. Not worth the price at all. The gnocchi... Holy shit this was like crack. Very soft and melts in your mouth, just deelish. I got half way through and was stuffed but HAD to finish! The bolognese means it has meat in the sauce. Not my favorite but it was extremely good. The bread.... Ummmmmmmmmmm, yeah it sucked. All in all, I will definitely go back and try other items. Very reasonably priced and the gnocchi alone would keep me coming back. Give it a try and have an open mind. Man this place is just not what it seems! First off the bartender did not seem to know much of anything and maybe doing hair is a better option than being a bartender! The menu is a Gosh darn mess like any other Italian joint! Less is more people! On top of that two drinks cost over $30 WTF!! Capri is exactly what you think it is - an "Americanized" Italian restaurant serving food of average, maybe slightly better than average, quality in an average Italian restaurant setting. We tried Capri after hearing good reviews about the place. I thought the menu could have been a little bigger, but it had an OK variety. As is typical of Italian restaurants, the headlines and dish names are in Italian, but the descriptions are in English. Our food was exactly what we expected. Not bad, but not outstanding. My wife ordered Chicken Vesuvio, and the way Capri prepares it is with mushrooms and onions. For an "Italian" dish that was invented in Chicago, it sure gets a lot of variety in the area and this was the farthest off of the "norm" that I've seen. Our chocolate lava cake dessert was beautifully presented, but sadly overcooked. Our service was excellent. We were seated immediately on a Friday night without reservations, though I'm sure this had a lot to do with the fact that the place has no liquor license yet. Our waitress was very pleasant, attentive, and made good suggestions. The decor of the restaurant very much was reminiscent of the former Irish pubs that preceded this restaurant in the same location, save for the removal of the tap rail and the addition of white tablecloths, a replica of the Mona Lisa, and Ol' Blue Eyes playing in the background. Seating is cumbersome, as it's split half upstairs and half downstairs with no restroom upstairs (that I know of...) Overall, as Americanized Italian restaurants go, this hits right in that sweet spot of "Exactly what you would expect, but unremarkable." - We've all been in this restaurant dozens of times, just in different places with different names. read more

My experience here was extremely bad. The worst part is that I knew the staff knew it but did nothing. Mussels were puny and disgusting. The pasta was gross. The wine selection was embarrassing. You can tell the tomatoes were fresh and the bread was outstanding. I've had chicken marsala in over a dozen restaurants and it very safe to say this was the best! Hazelnut & caramel gelato were both excellent. Waitress was helpful with recommendations and very friendly. Menu was authentic and many more things I would like to try there. Delicioso!!!! Capri Sogno is within walking distance of my house. Priceless. I will be here every week. Hubby and I walked to Capri and were seated right away at 6 on Friday for dinner. We sat upstairs in the dining room. Our server was their bartender. I wish I could remember her name because she was excellent!!! We ordered 2 appetizers, their bruschetta and calamari that was breaded and sautéed in olive oil, lemon and seasonings. Both were delicious. I ordered lasagna and hubby ordered tortellini with peas, mushrooms and pancetta with Alfredo sauce. He also opted to add Italian sausage. The lasagna was solid. I would definitely order it again. The tortellini was excellent. Their Alfredo sauce is light and creamy and in my opinion one of the best I've ever tasted. We were way too stuffed for dessert but hey! Definitely a nice addition to the down town plainfield restaurants. The chef is from the Capri in Burr Ridge, which puts him in a pretty good league. EVERYTHING is made from scratch. We ordered the tortellini and the eggplant parm. Food and service were great! The manager/owner was present and made sure to spend time with all the tables and guests. As a new restaurant I'd offer just a few suggestions: 1) There is a decorative martini glass when you walk in filled with red liquid. Looks nice, but a natural fly trap. Not a good first impression. Dump the water and fill with decorative rocks. 2) The menu is very traditional italian, so doesn't have a ton of healthier/lighter choices. I would suggest adding some more salads or a few healthier options in addition to all the great rich italian cuisine. We will be back again! read more

I visited for a family birthday dinner, and was pleasantly surprised. Location & building: Like other restaurants in the area, it is not easy to park here. You may have to walk a few blocks to get here, but you should already know that. The building is on the corner, and is eclectic and inviting. When we first walked in, we wondered where the heck they'd sit our huge party, only to be guided around the back and up some very narrow stairs to the upper level. Another bar and dining room! This would be perfect for planning an event. Booze: They have it, and a good wine selection at decent prices. There are reviews that are upset that they didn't have it when they opened - don't hold it against them, it's there now. Move on. Appetizers: We ordered a few appetizers including a few of the caprese selections and calamari. The boys loved the Salsiccia Giambotto, and I'll admit the flavor of the sauce was great. Dinner: I ordered the Linguini Scampi Diavolo and I was pumped to try it. I LOVE spicy food, love seafood and love Italian. Perfect, right? NO. This was so loaded with red pepper that it was nearly intolerable to digest. Even my other spice-fans that ordered it couldn't stomach more than half the meal. I took it to add cream sauce as leftovers, but later that night my stomach turned so violently that I knew that was going down the drain. Disappointing. Being a fan of very spicy food, I can't even imagine what would happen if the normal consumer ordered this. So stay away from the spicy red pepper items. Otherwise - everything was great. We are frequent diners at Capri in other locations but decided to try this adorable spot in downtown Plainfield. I was a bit surprised that 1/2 the dining space is upstairs (a very long, steep set of stairs) and I'm not sure if they have an elevator so if you plan to come here with anyone who has mobility issues - request a table on the main floor. The service was amazing - our server (I can't recall her name) was so pleasant and attentive and believe me, our table was demanding! She and the buss staff were well coordinated and so helpful throughout the meal. The food was very good from the appetizers to the dessert - the portions were large so expect to have leftovers unless you share dinners.
