The service was not great at all. Us a group of 4 had walked in to the place half empty , they were aware of us entering yet had us wait 10 minutes just to be seated. We had ordered the angelina pizza which had sounded much batter than it had tasted and we had orders the fettuccine Alfredo , with a 4 dollar add on we got chicken . It was sad to see only about 6 or 7 little pieces of chicken added for what I had paid. The server a man with glasses did not seem customer service trained . We did not get greeted any please or thankyous . I could not even get my water refilled because he only checked in on us twice throughout or entire dining experience. There was a young a girl working who was extremely rude . When she seated us she just said "table against the wall" and that was it . No smiles or anything . We were hungry and saw this place at the end of the block so we popped in. The main dishes were mediocre, but the rosemary bread was really, really good. The lasagna was on the salty side and the sauce tasted a little off. The salads were ok, but nothing amazing or special. Service was great, though! They do have a parklet outside, but the tables and chairs were scattered all over the place and there were only 2 umbrellas for 4 tables which made it somewhat unpleasant given how hot and sunny it was. When it's time for Italian and you live in the Nard or VTA there are only a couple to even consider. At the top of the list sits Capriccio. We went early on a hump day and we're lucky to have their star waiter Oscar. He guided us and had all the right answers. Tammy got the Chicken Piccata and I got the Chicken Parm. Both were cooked to perfection. Oscar made the experience even better by checking on us a few times like a pro. You can always tell a good restaurant by the people. Great companies hire great people. New ownership! Same amazing dishes and excellent service. JoJo the new owner is so kind and personable, we just fell in love with him! My veggie lasagna with meat sauce was superb, and my friend really enjoyed her eggplant parmesan. She was flying back home the next morning, so I was lucky enough to enjoy her leftovers! haha! When she had a second glass of wine, I decided that we needed to see the dessert menu and ordered the caramel apple cheesecake, which I think was the chef's special that evening. Boy, were we lucky! This has become one of our favorite local spots for tasty authentic Italian fare in Ventura. The waitstaff is attentive and knowledgeable about the menu selections which are varied - from delicious thin-crust pizzas to many different pasta dishes, soups, salads, and fish. They also feature an excellent wine list, along with daily specials and scrumptious desserts. The atmosphere is fun casual and a basket of warm bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar is brought to your table immediately after you've been seated. I ordered the seafood pesto and my partner ordered the pappardelle. We also shared a pizza. The pasta was swimming in sauce, it was basically a thick soup with noodles. The seafood pesto was extremely fishy, the fish they used with very low quality and the scallops were smaller than any scallops I've ever eaten. The pizza was doughy and undercooked. We have been long time clients of this establishment for 15 years and currently living out of state. The last time we came the food was mediocre and the waitstaff was in a rush to get us out so they could close (early). Note that they close at 9 PM. The moment we came through the door we were greeted abruptly by a woman that stated " the kitchen is closed". Manager came out and said that we could still sit down. We were unnerved by the way we were rudely greeted, we opted to find somewhere else to patronize as this was the second chance for this restaurant. It seems as though they are under new ownership since the old days and their personal welcoming practice is not the same. This spot is warm and friendly. The food is home made, fresh, savory and delicious. Starting with the olive oil & balsamic vigor and break, unbelievably good! My linguini & meatballs had great flavor, so much that my girl kept sneaking bites. The crab cannelloni had amazing flavor but the shells were a little tough from the reward. The lobster cream sauce was rich and delicious but heavier than it needed to be. The staff was friendly and during COVID season we ate outside in a new porch like setting with heaters and umbrellas. I was on a business trip in Ventura beach when I came cross Capriccico Italian restaurant. It's a small restaurant in Ventura downtown with small seating area and the have outside seating area as well. I went with group of colleagues to have dinner and we did not have a reservation. However, the staff were super nice and accommodating, we did have to wait for 15 minutes till a table emptied out, but it was worth it. There's six of us, so we ordered different plates and they were old delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant. Prices are very reasonable. Only street parking. read more

Mediocre food, shitty service. It takes 10 minutes just to get a menu, if you order Iced Tea be prepared to wait forever just for the server to come back with sugar and a straw. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. When the dish finally made it to my table the food was luke warm but I didn't send it back because I didn't want to wait an additional 45 minutes for it to be reheated. By the way, be sure to ask for a knife if you get this dish, the meatballs are hard as cement. What's shocking is how many people rate this restaurant with 5 stars. I have eat here before and it was decent but today I have to give it 2 thumbs down for many reasons. First off it was 3 pm and we came to the door and the waitress said she would be right with us. And we waited for another 10 minutes before someone came back to seat us. He said sit anywhere. Why she couldn't have said the same thing. We got a basket of bread and the rolls were so so. Very bready. I ordered the chicken picatta and my husband ordered the pasta puttanesca with sausage. The waitress came over with the micro-blade and the cheese and it was everywhere. On the table, on the floor and on the food. Very sloppy. The puttanesca sauce tasted like it was poured from a can or jar with some olives and pizza sausage. My picatta was gummy and the chicken had a weird taste and it was on a bed of dry angel hair pasta. I asked for some marinara and I got the same sauce as my husband without the olives and sausage. Not good at all. For an Italian restaurant, the sauces were not good. The only thing I can say is that it was hot. read more

This review is about service alone and cleanliness. Yesterday, we went in to be seated for dinner at around 5 pm. There was only one guy visibly seating people, but he stood in the middle of their doorway, on the phone, awkwardly making eye contact with us the whole time but never smiling or moving aside so that we could come in. Just kept talking on the phone. (Super weird and uncomfortable but okay, we still wanted to sit down and eat) -- never learned this guy's name but had super dark bushy hair and a beard and was the only one walking around at 5pm. So when he finally got off the phone (again, we just had to stand in front of the door and watch until he was done), he just stared at us without saying anything, raising his eyebrows. So my boyfriend said "Hi, a table for two people please" and the guy finally moved from the doorway and as he was walking outside he just said "Sit wherever you want then" So we went inside and sat down at the first table. It was super dead so all the tables were available besides 2 of them. The table was kind of sticky and gross, but we sat down anyway. As soon as that same guy came back in, he immediately told us "Can you guys move to a smaller table, thanks" (We were already seated and he had said sit wherever two seconds before this moment LOL) So my boyfriend started to move but I just said "Actually that's fine because we don't need to eat here" To which the guy said "Okay, whatever" So we left... to eat at a better restaurant LOL AWFUL. I have a friend who owns a restaurant in this area and we should have gone there instead. This is a perfect example of how service can ruin your entire establishment. I worked as a server for years before school and if I had spoken to a guest like that I would have been let go that same night. It's the job of the host/hostess to be friendly and to seat people according to their servers' needs..... it's not that hard. Cappriccio's should know better: they were dead when other places were hopping last night... on Main St, there are a MILLION places to choose from. We used to love this place's food, but will never be back and also tell anyone we know in the area. Also, their portions don't match their prices...big shock. Won't be back. Just devoured a scrumptious meal at Capriccio. Our server. Norma, was charming. We thoroughly enjoyed her personality and excellent service. I shared the fig, spinach & toasted hazelnut salad and enjoyed every bite - and I've never liked hazelnuts but toasting them took them to a different level. We each had glass of the 2020 Carmenet Chardonnay- which was delicious. It was surprisingly complex for such a low price point. Shrimp piccata was not on the menu but Norma ordered it for me, substituting shrimp for chicken cutlets. SOOO GOOD!! 7 plump perfectly cooked shrimp in a bright lemony sauce that was surprisingly light. Love love loved it. My friend got the pasta special, which looked like fettuccine alfredo, with the addition of (again) fat perfectly cooked shrimp and broccoli, zucchini and sun-dried tomatoes.
