Recently dined at the Captain Joes restaurant in Midway, GA and enjoyed the best meal I have had in quite some time! The salad bar features a large variety of multiple items which was consistently well kept and replenished with fresh food on a busy Saturday night. The salad bar along with the plentiful seafood platter I ordered was delicious! I get the impression that the management and employees strive to ensure customer satisfaction which makes a visit to the restaurant a pleasant and positive experience. The food here does not disappoint! During my recent visit I ordered a grilled redfish dinner to go for a neighbor and she as well was very satisfied with the taste and portions size! My son was treating my husband and I to a Mother's Day dinner...we expected to have a wait, however, two hours was out of the realm of reason. We were seated pretty quickly, but forgotten after that. Twenty minutes after being seated my son went to the counter and said something, a waitress did come and took our orders but it was quite a wait for the drinks. She did say that there would be a wait but after people who came in after us had gotten their meals and, waiting still longer, it became evident that they had forgotten us yet again! We went to the counter and asked when we could expect our meals and the manager said that they were just being prepared but it would be another 20 minutes or so. We canceled our dinner but, we were charged full price for the "side" salads that we got(two salads and three drinks)...$37.00! That price is for a full meal of salad. Don't waste your time going there if there's any kind of crowd, they can't handle it. We won't be back either! read more

I regret so badly for the many times we have drove past this place & never stopped. Our 1st time visiting & there was nothing disappointing about it. Freshest salad bar in town. I'm a salad bar snob & this spot on, was the best salad bar I've had in a long time. The service was amazing. Husband got the small order of the scallops & baked potato that came with the salad bar & he said it was excellent & the perfect portion. The ladies were so nice. The atmosphere is exactly what you would hope it to be with its name. Yacht rock type music on, low key, but very nice seating. We will definitely be going back soon. read more

The BEST fried shrimp in the area. I must mention the salad bar because all of the dressings are homemade and fresh. They offer homemade potato and sweet potato chips, homemade soups, cornbread, custard and garlic cheese rolls. Miss Lillie warmly greeted us with a huge smile and was very attentive to our needs. They had plenty parking. Super friendly and had a perfect area for 12 people. The restaurant was clean the buffet salad area was clean and filled. So many choices for the salad bar. This is a classic seafood place with an all you can eat salad/soup:dessert bar. I've had the po boy sandwich and the seafood platter for two and everything was very good. Very old, dated interior that could use a serious makeover and honestly a good cleaning. The food was average, the portions good and the prices pretty much consistent with other places, but OMG, the service is PAINFULLY SLOW!!!!! I was by myself, ordered fried oysters and was there over an hour. The waitress apparently had all the time in the world to kill and thought that I did too. It took 15 minutes for me to get my check after asking my waitress for it. She proceeded to take orders and wait on other tables while I stared at her and waited. This place not only has great food, but is perfect for large parties! Celebrated my mom's 75th birthday and we had over 60 people. The room was set up so nicely, the staff was so friendly and easy to work with and the service and food were both excellent. It is not easy to serve this many people and everything was fantastic. If you are having an event in Hinesville, Midway, or Richmond Hill I would recommend you use Captain Joe's in Midway. read more

We had a party of 9 come in for a birthday. Everyone had seafood platters and steaks. And no one was impressed. The steaks were ordered medium and medium rare. They came out cooked like leather. And portions for the prices were very small. Only thing really worth having was the salad bar. Seafood was tasteless. The boiled shrimp was dried out and not even edible. We did say something to the waitress about the shrimp and she said it's because it's boiled. We are a seafood loving family and this was very disappointing. read more

Someone told me there is an excellent seafood restaurant in Midway but couldn't remember the name. Well, folks. This isn't it. The girl who waited on us seated some people in front of us and another waitress (Casey?) was super rude to her about it so it was a bad impression from the first minute we walked through the door. The brunt of Casey's rudeness was actually our waitress and she was very sweet. I was genuinely disappointed that none of the staff wore masks and there were no alternative options to the salad bar, especially considering that we are in the midst of a pandemic. My husband paid for the salad bar (it came with his meal) but did not eat off of it due to concerns about cleanliness. We were offered no alternative (i.e. a salad made in the kitchen). My husband got the ribeye and while it was cooked well, it looked like a chop steak. There was also no rib bone in the ribeye. I asked how many stars he would give it and he said two. My appetizer of clam strips came after the meal but they were hot and delicious. My fish sandwich was decent but overpriced at $8.50. Also there was a table of "regulars" (I assume from the fact that they knew everyone and their child was yelling at the staff and his "girlfriend Casey") who sat down after us yet was served before us. So not only did we have to listen to a 2 year-old and a waitress yell back and forth across the restaurant, but those customers were deemed more important than us. Guess I'll keep searching for the "great little restaurant" in Midway. read more

It would be nice to actually speak to someone and place a to go order without being put on hold for 15 minutes. I thought I'd call tonight and try again, and the same thing happened. I understand that service is slow due to staff shortages, however, please make that plain when customers are visiting. I don't mind waiting or even leaving a generous tip, but please make it worth my dime(s)!! The catfish was under cooked, and that is a big disappointment!! The fried shrimp was just okay. The best part of my meal were the appetizers: fried green tomatoes. My advice: do better and hire more help or stop taking phone orders!! I'm still on hold trying to place an order to pick up even as I type this review!! I guess I will drive up and place my order. Came here for the first time, we just moved to the area about 6 months ago. Jesse our waiter was fantastic. He was super attentive, and hands on the entire time. When he recommends something you should ABSOLUTELY listen to him. The hush puppies are to die for. The seafood was fantastic. We stopped here on our way home to North Carolina. Jaianna Bush was our waitress. She was excellent and gave great recommendations. The food was great and didn't have to wait long for it. It's irrelevant to the food, but there was an older man that came in and the staff welcomed him by name, knew right away what he was going to ask for. Waited for 30 minutes to even get a menu that I never received. Only spoke with one waitress to be seated and she looked bothered by us asking where we could sit. (There were only two tables seated that I could see) Other people received their menus and also their food. We're on vacation and wanted to enjoy the local food. My husband and I treated my real estate agent to dinner here. Unfortunately, it was embarrassing. When we walked in, one of the servers told another that we were here table to which she replied right in front of us... "I was gonna go have a cigarette. You take 'em." The food was not great, either. My stuffed flounder had very little fish and the breading was about 10% crab and 90% breading. I left about 80% of it on my plate. My husbands fried fish was so-so and my real estate agent's fish was tilapia, not the grouper that she ordered. That fell way short of expectations! I ordered the ribeye steak and sweet potato. The steak was supposed to be medium but cooked well done. I'm almost 100% sure they did not serve me a ribeye cut of meat but a cheaper tougher steak. Also, I can't forgive the side of collard greens they served my daughter. They, I kid you not, tasted like they were from the pond out back. Not one speck of seasoning that my tongue recognized as edible...no sodium, spice, broth, NOTHING BUT POND WATER OR SWAMP WATER OR TOILET WATER. The wait staff lady was nice enough but so slow to bring us our over priced check. 30 min wait to get the check! Also, my son ordered the linguini Alfredo and broccoli on the side and couldn't eat 2 bites. He isn't picky. He is a great eater at 15 but guess it's our fault for picking those "hard to cook" foods from the menu. Stick with the fish and fries. Those were decent but I'm not happy paying over 70$ at this restaurant. Greens from a southern restaurant should be from the soul, not from the pond. We've lived in Utah for the past 20 years, but when we get back to Georgia each year, we make a special trip to Midway to eat at Captain Joe's. It is always great. The seafood is lightly fried and delicious. The service is polite and gracious. If you want traditional Southern seafood, this is the place. There's nothing fancy, but it's the same great food and down home atmosphere that has made this one of my favorite restaurants since it was called The Cherokee so long ago. read more

The only thing good about the restaurant was the vidalia onion salad dressing. The crabcakes were the most bizarre thing I've ever seen. They looked like potato sticks mixed with imitation crab meat. I ate here once before and couldn't remember why I decided to never go back... until today. I hate to say anything bad because the waitresses were very nice and did give their full attention. The entire staff looked kind of dirty, a little trailer parkish I guess. Not a huge deal. Then the cook walks out from the back having just finished our food I assume. His pants down to his knees, bearded and looking twice as dirty as the waitresses. After ignoring all the warning signs we eat. I ordered the sea food platter which I believe was the most expensive single meal on the menu. Musty be good. No. With the exception of 3 pieces of shrimp in a tiny dip cup, the entire platter was fried. Shittier than that, it all seemed like it had been freezer burned or something weird going on. The one good thing without a doubt was the fried pickles. I actually boxed them up and took em home. The wife just found a hair in them. Undoubtedly the cook's hair based on the ethnicity. Sadly, the one good bit of food at this restaurant was ruined by hair. Never again. Hopefully this time I remember why. read more
