If you are a first time Capt. Steve's diner, you will probably enjoy it. As a long time Harrisburg resident, I have watched all the changes and am less enamored. This was one of our "go to" locations for dinner. Several times a month we would be in line to get a table. Last night we left there and decided the value is just gone. It will now be an occasional stop. Certainly, all restaurants have had to adjust to increased costs. This is no different. But the increased prices, coupled with decreased portions and the decision to upcharge for sides (salads went from 3.99 to 5.99, but only on fried dishes....on broiled they are free) plus then surcharge credit cards is simply out of control. Dinner for 2 used to run $35-$40 with a tip. Now, it's $60 or more. Food is still good as is the service. I wish them the best but I suspect the volume will go down. read more

Finally was able to make it inside as a first-timer. Off the bat.. the service was excellent. I do not remember her name, but our waitress was fantastic and attended to us often! Not too much where it is overbearing, but enough to let us know she cares. She also made great suggestions which upped her sales! The food portions are HUGE. I ordered a "small 2 item plate" and I could only eat half and I eat a lot. I ordered the Catfish strips and the fried shrimp and it was def yummy. Had hush puppies for the first time with their honey butter and wow -- ate those up within minutes haha. Overall great family experience. I was with my family to eat out for dinner. I ordered grilled fish and shrimp with a baked potato. My server Reggie took pride that he remembered everything. My food came with french fries. No apology given, just oh I can get a potato. I feel his arrogance was uncalled for. He gave me a plate for me to remove all of the french fries and hand it back to him. I had a great experience here. Everyone is very friendly when you walk in. This is a very family friendly place and you definitely get a bang for your buck. My dinner was delicious and I had a good experience at Captain Steve's tonight. We even needed a box to take home our leftovers. Our experience began with us being seated and quickly greeted by our server. Our server delivered a basket of hushpuppies to the table before he took our drink orders. The hushpuppies were wonderful. They aren't flexible with allowing anyone over 10 to order from the kid's menu. You can't order a salad as your side with a fish plate. It made ordering a little difficult because I wanted a salad as my side but I didn't want to pay an extra $3.49 for a bowl of shredded lettuce. I just got a baked potato. Our meal came out pretty quickly. It came out correctly. My wife ordered a popcorn shrimp plate. There was a copious amount of shrimp on the plate. It was running over. I got a pick two combination plate with flounder and deviled crab. The flounder was good but the deviled crab was the star of that plate. It was great. I received two decent sized pieces of flounder and two deviled crabs. The portion sizes are very generous. The service was good. He kept checking on us and he was very attentive to his other tables as well. The place looked clean. The parking lot was full so they must do something right! read more

I really have no idea why alot of reviews have been positive that I read ?? I got 2 flounder plates and the fish was so thin & tasteless that if it wasn't for the smell you wouldn't know it was fish ?? one of the sides were onion rings and they were cooked until the onion was gone ? the hush puppies were also tasteless ! I don't think they believe in salt at all .. I was really disappointed as every time I go by the place it's packed and thought for sure it would be good, I WAS WRONG !!! I am a seafood lover and I used to drive all the way across town to Po Boys (which I still love) I just dont make the trip that often since I found this gem in my backyard. I would drive past and I noticed that they were always packed, so boom I asked my peeps that have been living in harrisburg longer that me about the joint. They said....yooooo the place is like that (its really good) Lol. So long story short I stopped in and have been stopping in every since! you get so much food for the price and its fresh. One night I grabbed myself and a friend of mine a platter and the young lady that was rung me up was like Check dig, you need to see whats up with the family deals they like that...Ok she didnt say it like that but what she did say was for the money you just spent you couldve got alot more food for a couple more dollars. WORD!! not only did have a great spot to eat in the neighborhood but now I had a bestie because anyone that can save ya girl some bucks and plug me in with some good food is a friend for life. (I was wondering what those brown boxes were that folks were carrying outta there) I saw them putting them in their cars but I wasnt close enough to them or I sure wouldve been nosey. Lol. We dined in at a captain Steve's for the first time for Fathers Day, there was about a 30 min wait - expected. We were greeted by Kelsey who was a great waitress and didn't miss a beat. I've been to this location quite a few times. The food and the service are normally good but today my server had a party of 6 come in after me and was focusing most of his time to them and neglected me. I had to get another server to get me a to go box but I still had to wait to get my servers attention to get the hill so I could pay and leave. It took a while but I think he finally got the drift when he saw that someone else gave me my to go box. I still tipped him good even though I shouldn't have. We waited 20 minutes to be seated which ok but once we were seated by the hostess no one came to our table they continued walk by us until the girl who was taking a large order from table of black folks behind us she then said has anyone came over here we said no which we been sitting close yo 20 minutes maybe longer let me reminded you we been sitting there long enough to say to one another let's just leave. It was so loud where the hostess sat us we couldn't even talk everybody conversation was yes that loud. Food was delicious, prices were great. As a person from California, I am beyond shock at the quality and quantity of food you get. The chicken tenders are incredibly juicy and the cat fish is just, great. The service was amazing, shout out to Reggie for his amazing service. Once you sit down, you get a basket of hush puppies and boy are they addictive. We got 2 slices of cakes, the strawberry shortcake was THE BEST I'm telling you, their homemade by someone and delivered straight to the restaurant, did not disappoint. The service was great, no wait because we arrived almost when they opened at 3 on Saturday. I got fried catfish strips, onion rings, coleslaw. Fish was hot and tender. This visit I was craving oysters and fish so chose the pick 2 platter and it came out as a mountain of seafood, not filled with hush puppies either. It was fresh hot and very tasty. Captain Steve's has a long history in the Charlotte area and as a result is very popular with the locals. This location was my first experience with the well loved fish camp and I have been here several times since they opened a few years ago. As soon as you sit down they will bring you a basket of hush puppies with honey butter.....enjoy. I try to stick with the same entree with a few modifications. I usually go with the fried or blackened fish combo with blackened scallops, a salad, and the collard greens. The greens are not fresh, probably frozen but they are seasoned really well and are my favorite side here. The blackened fish and scallops are really good, not heavy like the fried. By far the worse fried shrimp I've ever tasted, in fact..i questioned whether it is was shrimp I was eating. On top of that everything was soggy. I did a Sunday evening takeout. It was a fried seafood platter not worth the price for a container of clams with one piece of fish, four shrimp, and three oysters, and three scallops. The fries were very much undercooked. A side of cole slaw came with the order but was packed in a container under all the fries and seafood making it warm by the time I made the 10-minute drive home. My wife and I eat at your Harrisburg restaurant at least once a week, and take our daughter and son-in-law about twice a month. In total we spend about $195 month. During our last visit I asked for a diet Pepsi t go and was told it would cost one dollar (to pay for the cup). This is outrageous and I want to know if you plan to continue as yours is not the restaurant I have to patronise. This is a slap in the face. For over three decades we traveled to New Hope Road south of Belmont for coastal fish camp service and food. Since moving back to Charlotte 2 years ago we discovered the better choice was in our own backyard in Harrisburg. We had lunch again there today and, while they have gone up in price ($2) from the last time we ate there, the food was fresh, hot and delicious. My wife had catfish fillets and broiled baby shrimp with coleslaw and a baked potato. I had catfish fillets and oysters with coleslaw and potato salad. There was more food than we could eat and we will have enough for fish tacos and baked potato tomorrow (or whenever). Lunch is the best deal, although dinner is not disappointing with plenty of food and a greater range of selections. One can't go wrong at Cpt Steve's if one is hungry for good seafood. read more
