We were so excited to come back as we've been talking about this bbq place for the last 2 years. While it was very good, it wasn't quite as good as I remembered. The pulled pork and smoked sausage were good, but not INCREDIBLE. Mac and cheese was standard, very creamy and cheesy. Cornbread was pretty dense and dry. The collards were NOT great like I had in my prior review until you add the vinegar hot sauce and then they were pretty good. Everything was good, just not as excellent as I remember. How lucky are we to have such a great spot right down the road from us? We finally lucked out last night and got burnt ends and YUM. Highly recommend! My husband and I didn't want to eat too much so we shared the burnt ends and got two sides to go with it. We stopped by boat on the way up to St Augustine and I was pleasantly (and extremely) impressed. Most of the time places on the water have good reviews but mediocre food, but earn their reviews based on the views. Hands down this was some of the best BBQ! They were extremely fast w getting our food out - the pulled pork was delish, the sausage had great flavor... the Mac n cheese was yummy + I honestly don't remember the other side we had. Tried a few bites of a friend's greens and they were heavenly. And the desserts.... Oh man. Both the carrot cake cheesecake and the peanut butter chocolate were great but the carrot cake stole the show! Definitely stop by this place and grab a bite! read more

Gotta get your hands on some better quality bread. The reason I'm writing a negative review is the brisket slider was criminal. I've never seen brisket that dry in my life. It was like dust. HEY, YOU HAVE TO REST YOUR BRISKET FOR AT LEAST 4 HOURS IF YOURE GOING TO SERVE IT TO A HUMAN FOR MONEY. Put some tallow in there when you wrap it. (Are you wrapping it?!) Captains BBQ is located smack dab in the center of Bing's Landing Park. You can access the restaurant from SR A1A or by way of the Matanzas River (boat dock!). Just a friendly FYI, the restaurant is situated in a dirt parking lot, I imagine mud is inevitable on a rainy day. A group of us stopped in Friday evening for dinner. My wife and I ordered the Grand Slam Combo ($21.99) which includes three meat choices and two sides. For the meat selection, we decided on the brisket, smoked kielbasa, and chicken; for the sides, we chose potato salad and Coleslaw. The establishment is Covid-19 prepared as all the staff and customers are required to wear coverings (can be removed once seated). There are a few seats located inside the restaurant, however, additional seating is located outside on an enclosed patio. Orders are placed and paid for at the register. When an order is complete, the staff will contact the customer over the PA system. Orders are received at the kitchen expo area located back inside the main restaurant. From here, a customer can sit at any available table. Condiments are situated on a table in the enclosed patio. At the end of the condiment station stands a handwash sink and hand sanitizer dispenser. Our food was ready minutes after we sat down (10 minutes or less). The meats were all on point! I truly enjoyed the brisket and smoked sausage and was happy to find the chicken skin extra crispy! The meat choices were flavorful and just overall splendid. We were not too keen on the potato salad because the potatoes were still slightly hard and lacked seasonings (other than dill). The Coleslaw was passable but not something I would go out of my way to order again. The BBQ sauce had a touch of heat, and supple smokiness helped balanced out the meal. The manager stopped by to check on us about halfway through our meal and thanked us for stopping in. It is nice to see a manager taking care of his customers! Also, all of the staff were friendly and responsive when we needed something extra. The enclosed patio provides a spectacular view of the Matanzas River! I am so happy we were able to enjoy dinner while watching the sunset. It was a beautiful day, and we were fortunate to be in the right place at the right time. The restaurant is not fancy by any means; however, I highly recommend stopping in if you are in the area because the BBQ is delicious, and I cannot imagine a better place to have dinner with some friends while watching the sunset. read more

Captain's BBQ is conveniently located inside Bing's Landing, a nice little park that offers a fishing boardwalk, a boat launch, playground and so much more. The Park and Captain's BBQ is a perfect marriage altogether. A Food Coma High...the smell alone coming from the smoke pit will lure you to this place like a Zombie lured to a sound. I have had their BBQ Chicken a handful of times now, and it has yet to disappoint. Always delicious... so delicious, that it is kept me from ordering and trying other items off their menu, which I will "attempt" to try on my next visit. Everyone is always telling us to try this bbq place. The people are super friendly and the food was fast. Disappointedly, there is no house made sauce. We shared a 3 meat combo plus a link of andouille sausage. The brisket and sausage were on the dry side and too lean. Pork was bland until we added the Cattleman's sauce. The turkey was moist, but nothing special. The baked beans were the highlight of the plate. All in all, it's not our favorite bbq. I wish I could give 10 stars. The food is utterly amazing, from the main dishes to the sides. Very casual inside with a large enclosed porch area that is "fresh from the beach" friendly. But don't be fooled--the food quality and taste is as good as any Michelin star restaurant. There was ample parking and a huge smoker at the front of the restaurant. You walk in to a large open area and order at the counter. When the food is ready, they will call your name at the back where you pick up for take out or dine-in. If dining in, you carry your food back to the table, which has like 5 different homemade sauces waiting. Homemade is the watch word here. All the sides are homemade. The desserts are homemade. The bbq is of course homemade. And everything we tried was phenomenal. I had the ribs with the beans and collard greens for my sides. I can't convey in words how good everything was. The beans had one kind of meat mixed in with a perfect sauce full of flavor. The greens had a different kind of meat mixed in, also perfectly seasoned. The ribs...wow. That smoky flavor and dry rubbed goodness, and they were so tender. The perfect storm for the perfect rib. I also added a piece of cornbread and almost took a full order home. Yum! My daughter had the grilled cheese with brisket and side of mac and cheese. The sandwich was full of amazing brisket and she devoured everything. My wife had the triple sliders so she could try the turkey, the pork and the brisket. Her sides were the beet and cheese salad, and the potato salad. Again, the sides stood up to the main course toe to toe. Everything was delish, including all three of the meats. The turkey was moist and delicious, not dried out like other BBQ places I've tried. I wish we could have sampled something for dessert because they looked really appealing behind the glass case, but perhaps another time! When I say this my second favorite barbecue place, behind The Bearded Pig (would be my favorite but they are kinda far). There isn't one thing that I've had there that is not amazing, from the brisket to the desserts. I'm not sure what they are using to smoke the burnt ends but they are slap yo momma good. The thing that brings it all together is the ambience. Captains BBQ is situated right on the water, where you are liable to see manatees and other sea life. Captains is still currently providing take out food during the pandemic. My boyfriend and I stopped by for a take out meal on our way home and I got the pulled pork plate with Mac and cheese and coleslaw and he got the brisket with baked beans and potato salad. The food was fantastic. We both also got dessert he had banana pound cake which was SPECTACULAR and I had carrot cake which was good. My family and I were in the area for a staycation and decided to try out this BBQ place. Restaurant is hidden and you aren't able to see the building while driving down the street, so keep your eyes open or just use a GPS. Line was long since the Register is close to the entrance and there aren't a lot of space to stand around. I suggest getting a menu and looking at it while you are in line. Place was busy on a rainy 4th of July weekend. There are inside and outdoor seating area which is nice. Also make sure one member of your party gets a table cause it can be hard to find one when it is busy. There is a pick up window where you go and pick up your order when they call your name. Order came out quick and we did not have to wait too long. I ordered a half rack BBQ ribs and they tasted great. I haven't had ribs in a while and it hit the spot. Meat fell off the bone, but it was a little dry. There are a few BBQ sauces on the tables to try with the food. Mac and cheese was decent. Service was great. Went in, confused, where is dining? Then a lady informed that you order your meal at the counter, find a space to sit, they announce your name, and you pick your order to have it at the table. Great! Next it was our turn to order, and know what, "we run out of the ribs, sorry" well, ok. So we end up ordering the captain bbq burger, a regular burger and hot dog, and for the sides we ordered baked beans, and guess what, no beans either, so ended up having Mac n'cheese. Food was ready in 15 minutes, brought everything to our table. And here we went, to our disappointment, none of the burgers tasted good nor did the Mac n'cheese. The burgers tasted tasteless. Our group was 7 adults, with a variety of preferences and opinions on food (plus I'm a vegetarian, so ordering from here presented some challenges for me). Between the two days and all of us, we probably ordered close to 20 different things off the menu. And everything was SO. GOOD. Literally everyone was thrilled with their food, and pretty much everyone tasted everyone else's food and liked it. We've been vacationing as a group for close to 20 years and I think this might be the first time no one had a single complaint about their meal. The location is on the water and there is picnic table seating around the building, as well as outdoor patio seating and a few indoor tables as well. Lots of reasonably priced lunch and dinner specials to choose from. I went with the pulled pork with yams and beet salad on the side (an unusual choice but I figured why not? I love beets and goat cheese). The pulled pork was perfectly tender, juicy, and not too fatty. On the table we're options of house made sauce including Hot, Sweet, and Tangy. They were all good but the mustard based Tangy ended up being my favorite! I wish I got to try their desserts because the selection looked incredible but I'll have to wait until next time. This is a cool barbecue spot located at Bing's Landing. There is boat access behind the restaurant if you want to come via water and ample parking if you're traveling via car. When we walked in, we were greeted by friendly employees and they let us know to review the menu, order at the counter, and snag an available table (seating is first come, first serve). There were a couple of open tables when we arrived so we chose one on the covered, screened in patio. There's a nice view of the water and boats coming in there so it made for perfect ambience. There are speakers outside to announce your name when your order is ready. Pick up your trays, hit up the sauce station, and dig in to your food! I ordered the slider trio so I could taste multiple meats. There is one turkey, one brisket, and one pulled pork slider. My boyfriend ordered the pulled pork plate and we also ordered two smoked St. Louis ribs ala carte to try. For sides I chose mac and cheese and collard greens and he chose Mac and cheese and baked beans. They swapped the baked beans and collard greens on our plates, but it wasn't a big deal since we always taste each other's food anyway. The ribs were really tasty and fall off the bone tender. The brisket was tender and flavorful, and the pulled pork was also delicious. I tried some sweet sauce, gold sauce, and hot bbq sauce and all are nice accompaniments, though they don't appear to be made in house, at least not the sweet and gold. My boyfriend enjoyed his pulled pork and liked the ribs and taste of my brisket. The turkey impressed me since sometimes barbecue spots don't focus on it as much, but this one was just as good as the beef and pork. The baked beans are uniquely flavored and full of meat. The collards were tasty and had a nice little kick. The mac and cheese was just average in my opinion, but even average Mac and cheese is good in my book. Portion sizes are large and prices are very reasonable. Overall, this is a good bbq joint at a cool location. It wasn't the best barbecue I've ever had, but I'd still return since it was tasty, the people were friendly, and the atmosphere is great. After lunch, we walked around the park and checked out a neat archaeological site they have that shows some remnants of old plantations that used to stand there and explored some trails near the water. Came here first on a recommendation of a local and pretty late in the day (about an hour before closing) the place was packed. Not quite every table packed but all tables outdoors were packed. Ordered Brisket Dinner and Burnt Ends, got both (but I didn't realize how much I had lucked out), Chicken and a Burger (yeah not everyone's a BBQ fan, go figure) everything was amazing, we didn't eat it... We inhaled it! And prices are more then reasonable, so we decided to try it again but 2 days we had tried no Burnt Ends an hour before the closing (popular items made daily!) so the last night we stayed in the are we just decided to order about 2 hours before and lucked out on Burnt Ends.
