What a refreshing honest shop to find. For the last 25+ years we used Thamm's auto repair. Joe and Dave retired (good for them!!). On a whim one day I stopped in to see if I could get a oil change and tire rotation while I took the kids next door for a haircut. Not only did they get the car in, the waited until I returned to take me to our car and show me the brake pads and rotors indicating that they will need to be done within 5k miles. There was no hard sell. Just an FYI. I've since been back for new tires, a tweak on body bushings, and this past week AC recharge along with another oil change and tire rotation. I cannot say enough positive things about the staff. They aren't offended when I do my own brakes, oil changes or tire rotations. As it sits now due to a major injury to my leg ive been unable to do any of that on my own. And they don't hose me on the work. I'm Happy to have found a shop and mechanics I can trust. Came to get my starter and battery done. It was estimated approximately 2 hour job it took maybe 3 hours. It wasn't a problem for me because I wasn't getting off until 5. When I got it fixed I used a 10 dollar coupon and they honored the coupon. Next day my engine light came on and they told me to bring it back in. Friendly, informed and went the extra mile for my son's car which had contracted the cursed Chicago disease known as potholitis.They found a tire for his 2012 Nissan Maxima. Then his car failed the emissionn test which meant he couldn't get the license plate renewed. Again Dennis, Joe and Roger stepped up and finally, due to their expertise the car passed. I had a great experience here. The first time I tried to bring my car in it was close to closing and I was told I had to bring my car back. I was so glad I did. I knew that I needed a fuse for my car horn. Well, when Roby announced my car was ready and that he replaced my fuse and that I should control my road rage I laughed . He was convinced that was how I fried the fuse in my horn. I told him that I was a teacher and yes, I layed on my horn because I took part in a car caravan and that's what you do. I brought my car in to be looked at for a loud clanging noise coming from the bottom. Dennis, a manager told me that the flywheel/flex plate and torque converter were loose and could possibly be tightened. After further checking, he said they both were too damaged to just tighten. Dennis said both items needed to be replaced. I okayed the repairs. I came back to pick up the car and asked to see the old flywheel/ flex plate and it wasn't damaged. (Dennis said it was scratched) The flywheel for my car is a heavy gauge steel part. These guys scammed me. I reported them to deaf ears. I would recommend an alley mechanic before you deal with Car-X. read more

I thank Dennis for not only knowing me when I come in but also making sure before I leave that my car is drivable and ready for anything. Abou a year ago I dropped my car off here for tire services. The service at Carx was superb. The staff here not only did the tire services I wanted them too, but they also cleaned my car from the inside and out after they were done. And then, I accidetally payed them $20 more than I was suppose to. So, the next day I got a phone call from them and they told me that I had payed them $20 too much. 7.29.16 Dropped car off for emission test which failed, then asked for estimate from Dennis (Manager) to fix problems that caused failure plus cost to change fuel pump and filter. Released Car-X to perform work. Was told to pick car up 7.30.16. 7.30.16 Picked car up, paid $2254 for Diagnostic test, fuel pump, fuel filter, catalytic convertor assembly, flex pipe and labor and was told (by Dennis) that I needed to drive 100 miles at or below 55 MPH to get the sensors ready to be tested again. Drove around my area for 32 miles and ended having to pull over on Northbound 294 with gas flowing out of the bottom of my car. Waited 1 hour for tow truck on side of 294 NB. Car-X had reinstalled gas tank improperly. Lost 2 hours of my day. Was told(by Dennis) it would be ready on 8.1.16. 8.1.16 received no phone calls about car. Had to call (Dennis) at 330pm to ask what the update was. Dennis (MGR) said he didn't finish work on car until 230pm and it still hadn't been retested for emissions. Asked for update at end of day, had to call back at 530pm and it still hadn't been tested. Told (by Dennis) to pick up on 8.2.16. 8.2.16 arrived at 810am, car once again failed emissions test. Was told (by Dennis) to drive it on highway to and from work under 55 mph to get sensors ready for testing on 8.3.16. 8.3.16 arrived at 830am for test of emissions. Vehicle passed emission test but I honestly don't think it did, I think that Oscar (Inspector ID #RT004231) rigged the test to get me out of there. Oscar walked in and handed me keys and paperwork and then quite rudely said, "you're welcome". I then went to front desk and told Dennis that his employee has an attitude problem and that this is not how a customer should be treated. Dennis offered me (2) free oil changes which I refused. Why would I want to go back to this business when they did such a bad job with customer service, repairs and overall satisfaction, let alone a safety issue with standing on side of a highway due to their incompetency? read more

They replaced our brakes in the Spring and we had to take it back multiples times for months because it was squeaking, the whole while insisting that it's normal for them to squeak till they get "worn in." We waited another 6-8 months for them to "wear in". After they did not stop squeaking - we finally took it back again and after much argument, they agreed to replace the pads under warranty. When we took it back in, they also said, "Well now your rotors are rusted". My Dad (a car guy himself) said rotors do not rust. AND I looked at the receipt and they had replaced the rotors when they replaced the brakes - months ago - and now they are "rusted". After the guy realized I was correct, he finally agreed to replace the whole thing, but had I not argued with him, I would have gotten no service, continued to have squeaky brakes, and maybe even paid him to replace the rotors twice in one year! Ridiculous! Not sure these people are rip-off artists, as our pastor recommended them, but I certainly will not be returning or let them touch anything else on my car!! Don't go here, unless you can really talk shop and make sure they don't try to scam you. read more
