I ended up walking in an hour before closing and they were able to fit me in for an oil change and check out some strange noises I was hearing. ("Rattle- rattle thunder clatter...") I felt they were honest and accomodating. They gave me the Internet advertised sale price ($19.99) for the oil change without me even mentioning it. I ended up leaving me car overnight so they could do the additional work needed. My only gripe is that they told me it would be ready at 9 or 10am and it was not ready until noon. Was charged $671 for them to replace a faulty thermostat on my Jeep Cherokee. BEFORE they started work, Car-X gave me a $671 estimate. I looked online, and most estimates are about half that price. When I picked up the car, Car-X claimed labor costs were $480 because it took 4 hrs to figure out the issue. They, of course, claimed they did not know how long the entire process would take. My question, then, is how did they know it would take 4 hrs of billing $ before they started? The stories don't add up. Car-X gave me $50 off to make me feel better, but I will nvr go back to Car-X again. If u r willing to risk paying double for your repairs, feel free to go to Car-X. Went in had some work done, than when I left the shop I noted some new noises occurring with the car that wasn't there prior to me bringing it to the shop. When I called out the manager and demanded they fix whatever they screwed up, they made up countless lies and tried to play me for a fool. Jokes on you dumbasses, I may be a girl but I'm far from dumb when it comes to cars. Needless to say, I pulled my car after they decided to give me a laundry list of things which are wrong and refusing to acknowledge their error. I had been going to this location for about 5 years. Joe was the original Manager and he was awesome. However, the last few times I have gone to this location I have felt they are trying to take advantage of me. After my last visit, I will not go back. I took my car in for an oil change and tire rotation. Should be about 30 minutes. I left with a friend to run an errand and returned an hour later. My car was still in the bay. The Manager told me they had to keep it in because the battery was so low and they had to keep it running. I told him the battery was fine. He took me back to show me and said it needs to be replaced. I told him there was no issue and I called my male friend inside from the waiting car. The manger then just checked me out and upon handing me a receipt told me there is a quote for tires there because those need replacing too. I am convinced if my male friend had not come in they would have pushed me on the replacement of tires versus just providing an unsolicited quote. The next day I took my car to the Firestone service center because I was experiencing pressure issues with one of the tires that had just been rotated at Car X the day before... I had no issues with my tires prior. Now I was suddenly loosing pressure quickly. I took it to Firestone and they checked everything... including the battery and the treads. Firestone told me the battery is fine and recommended a re-check before next winter. He also let me know the tires were fine and have about 50% tread left. Recommended re-checking in a few months based on my miles driven. The final nail in the coffin for this Car X location is that I had synthetic oil put in the car... I asked about the amount of miles I can go with synthetic... should be about 10k. I asked if the sticker on the window reflected that number. The Manager said yes. He lied... it reflects 3k miles. I had previously received good service from this location. Yet, I went in one day because my car was struggling to turn over. I was told I needed a new alternator, costing me around $400. It turns out that it was just my battery, which would have been a far cheaper repair. My car ended up dying about a half hour from home. Thankfully, I had people to jump my car but I could have been stuck. read more

Im only giving them 1 star because I cant give them no stars. We "recieved" an oil change and a coolant flush here. Only to have no oil in my car a month later. So my car didnt start. So I headed over to Jiffy Lube to just get a second oil change and new filter. So then now I recieved a full inspection and my mechanic told me that he recommends a coolant flush because the coolant in the tank was a yellowish brown color. Now i had never tought of checking the cooling fluid because my wife had said that they did the coolant flush. Also the employees were all pretty dismissive when it came to answering questions. I do not recommend going to this location! Stay away from this CarX. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. I had oil change at CarX North Aurora and 'FREE' tire rotation that nearly cost me my life on the tollway!!!! Tow truck driver informed all of the lug nuts on all 4 wheels were loose. Front wheels wobbled nearly off and luckily I was near the shoulder. I'm counting my blessings I wasn't injured or struck by traffic behind me. Traumatized! Also out $120 for a tow plus who knows what kind of repairs pending to my car. CarX North Aurora was already closed for the evening. Will see what the manager says or how they fix this. read more

I went to the North Aurora Car-x today for the first and last time. I had my oil change and my tires rotated. When I was driving home, I noticed that my $40.00 sunglasses that were in the center console were broken. The glasses had the right temple piece broke at the hinge and the top bar was broken over the lens. I had worn the glasses to the business and put them in the console when I parked, so I know they were not broken before I went in the business. I called the business when I got home an hour later and explained what had happened. I said that I know accidents happen, but I was disappointed that the technician didn't tell me he had damaged my personal property. The owner/manager said he didn't think that his worker did it, or he would have told him, but he would look into it. I waited until the business closed for him to get back to me, but he never called. It is very disappointing that not only do they not take responsibility for damaging my personal property, but they can't take two minutes out of their day to return my call. This was the most expensive oil change I have ever had and I will never uses their business again. read more

After bringing a car in for routine tire work recently (since the change to corporate) I would not recommend the shop. My regular place that I go also charges 19.99, but one day had a long wait, so I thought I would try Car-X When I got home I noticed a $3.14 Shop Supply fee on the Invoice. I called them up on the phone and was told that is an oil disposal fee that the State of Illinois requires on all company's that do oil changes. Went into car x today for a check engine light, so I dropped off the car and I get a call back in the afternoon saying that car is fine and that the gas cap was just loose and that's why the check engine light went off. I brought my car in because the TPMS light came on. I spoke with Joe Garrity, he hooked a computer up to the car and assured me everything was okay. He didn't charge me anything for looking at it. A few weeks later the TPMS light came on again, this time I spoke with Al. They replaced the sensor on the rear passenger side and assured me everthing was fixed. I paid $125 and drove off, only to have the light come on again a few hours later. I immediately called back, frustrated that the car wasn't fixed. Al told me to bring the car back in. I brought the car back in the next weekend and they replaced the same sensor they had replaced the week before. Although I wasn't charged for this, I was frustrated that I had to bring the car back to replace what they claimed to fix the prior week. They also didn't clearly explain what they were looking at or what part was being replaced. A few weeks later the light came on again. This is the fourth time I've brought the car in for the same problem. I spoke with Al again who told me they would look at it and replace another sensor if needed. He never fully explained what might be wrong or the work they might do on the car. He also didn't explain that they might need to replace a second sensor which would cost me another $100. When I returned to pick the car up, I had a bill for $100 waiting for me. Al told me the first sensor they replaced was causing the light to come on and that the second sensor was also misfunctioning. I had never had trouble with this light before, but now they're telling me both sensors went bad at the exact same time. That seems hard to believe. Most importantly, Al never explained that they might have to change a second sensor AND he never showed me the cost of labor and the new part prior to the work. That's like going in for surgery and reviewing the financial cost after the operation is already complete. The fact that the car wasn't fixed properly the first time, they weren't able to clearly explain the work they were doing and the inability to talk with me about the cost prior to doing the work are red flags I wish I had known about before bringing my car there. I would not recommend Car X on Genesis Drive, they have poor customer service and aren't properly equipped to fix the car correctly the first time. read more

I went in for a simple oil change recently, little did I know, this would result in potentially dangerous changes to previously safely functioning parts. Upon leaving, my brake pedal descends to the floor before engaging the pads and I'm leaking oil at an alarming rate. Now I've tightened the oil plug to a point where it leaks less, but a new pan is needed, which they did mention. But they barely tightened the plug, even after an employee asked for my keys a second time to pull my vehicle back into their garage. He claimed it was to check the oil. If you know anyone personally that works on cars, I advise you to go with them instead, since I believe my vehicle to have been sabotaged in their hopes that I'll return to them to remedy everything that happened as a result of my going there for just an oil change. Car-X Tire and Auto 202 Genesis Way North Aurora Illinois 60542 On Saturday September 30th at 11am, I took my truck to Car-X Tire and Auto in North Aurora to have some simple routine maintenance done which included, oil change, radiator flush and fuel injection cleaning. These are all very simple tasks that any auto repair shop should be able to do. When I arrived, I parked my truck in the parking lot in a normal parking space. I went inside to let them know I was there and they proceeded to get my keys and pull in my truck into one of the bays. They started working on my truck by adding windshield wiper fluid and then raised my truck in the air with one of their lifts. After about 5 mins go by, three gentlemen from the shop including the manager coming walking in and asked if my truck has been running hot. My answer was "No, why?", then I proceeded to tell them it always runs about 204-206 degrees since I have a digital programmer I can always see the temperature. I walked out to the shop and my truck is gushing antifreeze all over the ground. I was like "what happened?" They said "it was like that". My response was, "if it was like that, then why is there No antifreeze on the ground where I parked my truck and there is no trail of antifreeze from the spot into the bay?" They could not explain. If my truck was leaking that bad, antifreeze would have been everywhere, but it was not, besides just the one spot in the bay. They told me my water pump was bad. Well I know water pumps just don't explode, but there was so much antifreeze on the ground there is no way I could of made it anywhere else to get it fixed, it would of overheated. I was stuck getting it fixed there. I have been around cars my whole life and have even worked at Chrysler for 13 years as an engineer, so I knew right away they were pulling a fast one on me or at least trying to. Besides them scamming me out of a water pump, they decided to take my truck for a two mile joy ride afterwards. There is no reason for taking the truck for a joy ride, all you have to do is start the engine to cycle the antifreeze through. Car-X in North Aurora are a bunch of scam artists that take advantage of people. You take your vehicle to them for simple maintenance and they will scam you out of something major with your vehicle. I looked up reviews and I am not the only one they have scammed in the past. It's the same story. Please do not attempt to take your vehicle to this Car-X, they will scam you out of a lot of money. The sad part with my situation was they fixed a good water pump and I still never got any of my original maintenance that I took it there for done and had to take it somewhere else. Nissan wanted to overcharge me for a full exhaust replacement. Joe the manager at Car X told me that was not necessary. He saved me over $800 from what Nissan wanted to charge me. With that savings, I was able to use the money to replace all my tires which needed it and they had a great tire sale going on as well. Again, Nissan was $300 more for the same Continental tires. Lesson learned, avoid car dealers and head over to Car X. Not as busy here on a Tuesday and service is great. Good job guys, now let's get those tires on and the exhaust replaced read more

Do NOT EVER go to this location. (Unable to give 0 stars). The following are 3 actual experiences at the North Aurora location: 1. (Bad experience) My family bought a set of 4 oil changes that came with a free tire rotation. I went in to have this performed, and I gave the coupon to the manager. I waited about 25 minutes. When they pulled my car around, I checked my tires. I always mark my tires so that I know they get rotated. They were not rotated. I went back in and told him that my tires weren't rotated. He said you never asked for that. I explained that it was part of the coupon deal. He said that the tire rotation was not part of the deal. I said look at the coupon, it is right on there with an employees initials on it. He claimed he threw the coupon away. So I said, don't worry, I have another one just like it. I was then told that the employee no longer works there. I responded that I don't care if he works there, you need to honor the agreement. I paid for this special rate and it is a contract. Only then did he agree that they would put the car back up and rotate the tires. I waited another 15 minutes. 2. (Terrible experience) I went in for another oil change and free tire rotation. I made sure to tell the front desk that they better rotate my tires because last time they didn't. He assured me they would. When I was handed the work order form, no tire rotation was on there. I said why isn't tire rotation on here? His response was that "Since it is free, we don't put it on the order, because it kills our sales numbers. But it will get done." I dropped off the car for the entire day this time so I wouldn't have to wait around. When I came to pick it up, I checked the tires, and you guessed it...not rotated! I went in to complain and expressed my frustration. The worker then appeared agitated when he had to put my car back up on the rack and rotate the tires. I drove home and parked the car in my driveway. The next day, a HUGE oil stain in the driveway. Popped the hood, and they left the oil cap off!!! Oil splashed all over the engine. There was a mess. I went back to Car-X, and told them how stupid they were. They cleaned up the engine and offered me a free oil change. I said I would never be back. I came in for the two easiest things to do, and they messed up both of them. 3. (Horrific experience) Although I will never go back to Car-X, my father decided to give them another shot. Huge mistake. He was also getting an oil change and tire rotation before our family vacation. When he brought the car in, he talked to the manager and reminded him of my terrible experience. He said that they have new employees since then, and it must have been a bad day. When my dad picked up the car, he checked his tires. They were rotated. He even popped the hood to make sure the oil cap was on. It was in place. Good to go he thought! He began to drive away and as he was about to leave the lot, his wheel falls off. Yes, his front WHEEL came off! Those idiots forgot to put the lug nuts back on!!! Thousands of dollars of body work had to be performed. A rental SUV was paid for so that we could still go on our family vacation. Car-X did right to pay for everything, but what a joke this place is. Could you imagine if he had gotten onto Orchard or I-88 and then the wheel fell off?! Car-X is lucky no one was hurt or killed. All of this happened to just our family on 3 different visits within one year. I can't imagine how many other people have had problems. And I bet most of the people who "get their tires rotated" there actually just wear down their tread unevenly because the work order is never given to the employee...all to make their numbers look better! Well leaving lug nuts off will really screw up those precious numbers. These people are incompetent. NEVER get your car worked on here. Got my drivers side mirror/cover replaced there and apparently they don't know the difference between grey and black. My car is grey and I how have a black mirror.. We went here for an emissions test and an oil change. We dropped the car off before 9am and was told that they would call us when it was ready. At about 3pm when we still hadn't heard anything, we called them and they said that it had been done since 10am and "Whoops, sorry we never called." Um, ok whatever. We had plans at that point and couldn't pick up the car until after closing so we paid over the phone and they said they would lock the keys in the car for us. That's fine. Well when we went to get the car, I go to put the key in and it basically shatters in my hand (not the metal key part but the case with the lock and unlock buttons). Luckily we had a spare key because this one was now unusable. I checked the notes and receipt and there was nothing mentioning a broken key. I'm assuming they were hoping we stupidly just wouldn't notice. We called in the morning to tell them about the key and they denied having anything to do with it and said that it was broken when we gave it to them. Even went so far as to tell us we told them it was broken when we brought the car in. Right, then how did you get my car to move with the broken key? I mean, they just flat out lied. read more
