Well the ambiance is great, it has great curb appeal outside. However I was expecting the place to be much bigger. I believe the inside seating is probably enough for like 30 people and outside another 20. We have been trying to eat here for a long time, we knew about the Amar location but every time we've tried going it's been really busy. This location is less busy and even the location seems better than the Amar location. The staff were great, everyone was very friendly. I have been a fan of Caramelos ever since they first opened in La Puente and happy they expanded over to the east side. The original Caramelos is so popular now the wait times were too much for me. My sis and I stopped in for a quick breakfast on our way to work, arrived at 8a on a Friday there was only one other party there but by 9a the crowd started rolling in. We weren't too hungry so we shared a savory Country Crepe and added breakfast potatoes that also came with 2 eggs and 2 sausage (we really only wanted the potatoes and thought the eggs and sausage came in the crepe). The crepe itself was huge, had lots of ham but lacked some sauce or melted cheese inside to tie it all together. The side of green salsa was yummy and had a little kick to it. Our server was very nice and came to check on us a few times. We will surely be back to enjoy their expanded menu. read more

I was just here last Friday morning, and I did write that I would return to try their crepe. Well, I came back with 2 family members who are chilaquilles lovers! I told them that I really thought they were delicious and I'm happy to write that they were not disappointed! We decided to share their strawberry crepe with caramel, pecans, sweetened condensed milk, and whipped cream... Oh my goodness, it was beyond delicious!! The picture shows that we nearly licked the plate clean! Today, our servers, Rosario, Fernando and Sasha, were just as wonderful as Niellie!! The food here is good but the customer service needs improving. We came after noon on Saturday and everyone just seemed to be flustered and scrambling. I got there and I had to join the Yelp wait list, shouldn't they be able to add me to their own list? I guess not. But I obliged and put myself on the wait list. Another group showed up and I over heard that the hostess had given their table to someone else. Then we finally got sat and we placed our order pretty quick. Everyone and no one seemed to he our waitress/waiter. I had to ask for a regular coffee refill. My husband's plate came out first and it was cold. About 5 minutes later mine came out, the server spilled salsa all over me. No one ever came back to check on us, offer more coffee, make sure I was still good after having salsa spilled all over me. I was excited to try this place as La Puente desperately needs more family friendly, modern, sit-down restaurants. Came Sunday morning for breakfast, and were told it was going to be 15 mins. With the long line of people ahead of us, I was surprised they only said 15. However, once we received a text alert our table was ready, I was told by the host that she just needs to clean the table. No problem. But then we had to wait another 10 minutes for them to actually wipe down the table. Also, they waited for the entire outdoor patio to clear out, and then sat down all 5 tables at the same time, which is covered by one waitress. They're immediately setting themself up for failure with this strategy. Next, after sitting down, we didn't get waited on for another 10 mins, when by now, you'd expect we'd at least have water and silverware! We chose to order our drinks and food all together because I knew this was going to take a long time. After about 15 mins of ordering, I'm looking around, and no one has received a single cup of coffee, water, or any drink. Absolutely ridiculous. We ended up receiving the sides of our breakfast before any drink, or silverware showed up. Super bizarre. Another 5-10 mins after that, then our waffles appeared. Meanwhile, I could hear other tables reaching out to the server to order (mind you they sat down at the same time as us, 20 mins+ ago). Also meanwhile, there was a girl who sat down after ALL of us, got her food before us, and the gentleman working there kept taking care of her. As someone who has worked in restaurants, it blows my mind you would ever serve someone food before giving them their ordered drinks, let alone water, first. They give you a good amount of food, and prices are fair. However, there was something off about the taste of the waffles. They tasted exactly like they used pancake mix rather than waffles. And the inside was mushy and not cooked all the way through, even though the food was hot. This was the first time in my life I didn't finish a waffle due to the taste. This place has a lot of potential, and while the host and waitress were really nice, it's clear there is ZERO management going on at Caramelo Cafe. I think this could be a great place to get food to-go, but dining in here was a terrible experience. To whoever the manager is, get involved and learn how to operate a restaurant efficiently. read more

Note that this location doesn't have any espresso drinks -- so I opted out for any drinks. I think they use Folgers coffee (saw someone come out with the containers). Ambience, probably nicer to sit outside. We sat inside and it was just ok. Service was ok, the employees all seemed nice. Country crepe: would not recommend - It says it comes with tomatoes, but it didn't come with any. - flavor was bland, no seasoning, no sauce, didn't seem like any butter was used. - mushrooms seemed almost raw - cheese doesn't melt, didn't even notice cheese till you dig into the bottom of the crepe - eggs tasted very plain, over cooked, dry Cordon blue crepe: would not recommend - chicken was dry/tough - sauce was good and not salty - overall flavor was ok Unfortunately, we won't be coming back. read more

Finally got to try Caramelo's second location. Food and coffee are just as delicious and service was quick! Also love that they have an outdoor area. Interior isn't as decked out as the original location, but it still pays homage to its vibe. Not a big deal, but they forgot to cook our eggs over easy and also charged us for two cafe de ollas instead of regular coffee. Considering we were the only 2 there, this could've been noted better. This is why I removed a star. Of course, they fixed our receipt promptly after telling them. :) Still the same old Caramelo at the end of the day. Definitely coming back in the future! read more

From a happy customer: First time I eat inside this location because I've only visited the location on Amar previously. The reason I came in to a late lunch today was because of their green chilaquiles photo on their Instagram story. Pros: Food: Food is AMAZING! It's like you are eating at home. And they hands down have the best Cafe De Olla I've ever had! I had the green chilaquiles made just the way I like them (lots of sour cream and cheese on top), sautéed potatoes and scrambled eggs. I also had the "Flameada" crepe which is filled with cream cheese, Nutella, and topped with flambé bananas. Service: I was greeted by Sasha when I sat down at the table. She is an excellent server and has a very welcoming smile. Great job on whoever hired her. She went the extra mile to make sure that I got my order exactly how I requested it. I admire the entire staff at both locations because it is obvious how much they care about providing the best service. Small, almost packed eating area (way too many people for the size of the restaurant) and if you eat inside, it can be very loud. The service was fair, and the food was as we were expecting. It is a little on the pricy side for breakfast. I'd vote a single thumbs up (not two) as there are other places in the area that offer a better menu offering at a more competitive price.
