Carey Hilliard's is a well known local Savannah staple. This restaurant has multiple locations. It has car side takeout or dining if you so choose. There is of course indoor seating too. The food is classic barbecue, seafood, and fried favorites. I am a fan of the chicken fingers and fries or the barbecue plate. I always get food to go. The service at car side is efficient. It can be quick depending on time of day. I suggest calling and ordering ahead for quicker service. read more

I want to say this place is equivalent to a Burger King or McDonalds etc.....definitely food you might want after hanging out with friends late night (food that doesn't need to be critiqued just put in your belly.). I will say their sign says seafood so that's most likely their specialty which I didn't try. I had a bacon cheeseburger fries and onion rings. The burger is only made one way which is well. The onion rings looked like calamari but were ok....sometimes looks aren't everything lol. I also had the crab chowder which was ok. I'd say yes to this place if I was doing a 10 hr drive and it was the only option. Our waitress was super sweet and patient but we winded up taking the order to go because the whole restaurant is carpeted so there's a lingering smell and they don't vacuum due to noise factors instead they sweep all the dust around. Something a person with allergies definitely doesn't want to be around but the drive up might be an option for you. For me it's a no thank you. Maybe if they updated the interior and ripped out those rugs I might try what's on the seafood side. read more

Located off of Abercorn street near the Toyota dealership, this restaurant is good ol fashioned food. I typically order my food to go and everything is cooked fresh and hot when given to me. I stopped by late Saturday night to catch the half priced hot wings deal. It was fairly late so the restaurant was pretty empty. I did an online order and my food was ready before I arrived. Restaurant was clean and quiet. The young lady that helped me was very nice. I ended up ordering the tenders special and my food came out super quick. The tenders were fried perfectly and seasoned well. read more

Came in tonight for a quick bite to eat and they had the wing special going on. The wings never fail me, the chicken is always fresh, crispy and hot. The sweet tea was a bit too sweet for me, but overall good. The lady who served us was super sweet and informative. read more

I picked up an order, they gave me someone else's order (name on a box was Lauren, my name is Laura). I never looked at the boxes in the bags until I got home. It was raining and I live 25 minutes away. I called to ask for a refund, as we did not want what was in the order. The manager told me he would not give me a refund unless I drove back 25 minutes to his location and bought back the food. The manager said he could not trust I was telling the truth that i received the wrong order. I told him it was easy to figure out, my name was Laura, i could tell him not only what "Lauren" ordered as it is sitting at my house, but i could also tell him what i ordered which is either sitting on his counter or at Lauren house. Kayla is awesome!! She was super attentive, knows her menu well! She was also super friendly, the only issue I had was i had (at no fault to Kayla) I had asked for my sons pizza to be cooked a little longer so it wasn't so stringy, and it was put into the microwave. Ordered food from the Abercorn restauran. I got the captain platter. You can see oil spots and on the food from the food sitting out. The fries were cold and when you open the fish the inside of the fish was raw but the outside was overcooked and stale. I'm sure I could have gotten food poisoning if I didn't throw the food away. Visit Savannah and stop by Carey Hilliards, I was very impressed. The inside was nice and cleaned and the people were super funny. We ordered the boom boom shrimp as an appetizer and it came out fast and was hot and delicious. I heard about the chicken so I tried that as well, and when I tell you that was some of the best fried chicken. My husband and I are traveling back from Florida and wanted to stop for an early dinner somewhere close to our hotel. I looked online for a local restaurant and found Carey Hilliard's. We were so impressed with the food and service. I ordered blackened salmon, mac and cheese, and green beans. Everything was delicious! The salmon was cooked to perfection, the Mac and cheese was cheesy and creamy, and the green beans were cooked with some kind of ham. My husband had chicken tenders ( very juicy), coleslaw (creamy, not vinegary), and potato salad (creamy and tangy). The hush puppies are yummy! Our server's name was Latrice. She gave us excellent service! If you get a chance to check it out, you should definitely go. You won't regret it! read more

We had dinner at Carey Hilliards on a Monday evening at about 7 pm. We had a party of six; the teens had chicken strips as did one of the adults, we had two salad orders and I had the crab stew. We also had an order of mozzarella sticks for the table to share. The servings were large and the food was good. Our waitress was super busy but we never felt ignored or that we went without anything we needed. Even though it was busy, it never felt too loud or crowded. Went out with a friend from fla. They always like Hilliard s oinin ring. We went last week and he ordered some. When thy got to the table I notice how the batter was very light When he started to eat one all the batter fell off the oinin all over the table. He said what's going on i said the batter is soooo light it can't stay on...He was literally eating and oinin ring with no batter. I said Hilliard s must be watering the batter down.. What a shame they use to be soo thick and crunchy...must have cut back on there reciepy...the food is not what it use to be ..back in the day...from someone who grew up in Savannah....also, I ordered shrimp salad when it came out I looked and found no shrimp...it look like mashed of something but no shrimp..When I tasted it it was awful. It tasted like they added Shrimp Paste with pickles...I could not eat it. I waited for the server and he was no where to be found.I even got up to look for him and ended up giving the plate to the woman at the counter. I called to speak to the manager and after spending over $40 and drove up there to get my food- I received a $2 for my inconvenience. I'm grossed out. Okay. I'm just going to say. I don't go to church but Dwane's fried chicken from the Southside Carey Hilliards took me straight to Jesus. When I say you can taste the passion and love that he puts into the cooking and honestly it is night and day to anything else. This chicken teleported me through time and space to my nanas farm house in the country for Sunday dinner with all of the fixins. Just one bite. I close my eyes. Immediately, I'm driving through the summer woods down a dirt road to an old farm house where nana has the table set up with fresh bread coming out of the oven and chicken fresh from the skillet with the most spine tingling crisp breading and skin. 10 out of 10 doesn't even come close. Easily 10000 out of 10. My only wish was that they had honey to eat with the chicken that would be the only feedback. Okay so that's the food. Now the service.... Jada... I have never met such an attentive hardworking and friendly server. She is personable and is on top of everything. You can tell she truly takes pride in her work. She is funny and bubbly and when I came in saying that I'm hungry and I'm about to do some Gordon Ramsey level ordering...She had a genuine laugh at the comment and was like "heck yes let's go what can we get cookin to get you fed." I got the regular bacon cheeseburger and it was delightful. The server I had was very upbeat and cheerful. when she first came to the table, her smile lit up the room practically. Her name I think was Essence. And I loved her gap. She has such a beautiful personality. I also notice how she was helping everybody out in the restaurant as well as tending to my needs. . My wife and I just moved to Savannah from the Los Angeles area. Last night we had dinner at Carey Hilliards. Our server was Peasy. He was a very nice guy and gave us excellent service. In addition, he has a great sense of humor. The food was good. I asked Peasy what his favorite dish was, and he said he liked the hamburger steak. That was an excellent recommendation. If you want seafood DO NOT GO HERE! This was absolutely awful. Ordered shrimp and oysters. Both were the pre-breaded frozen stuff you get at chain places.
