I had a chance to drop by Shabazz's for the first time while I was in the neighborhood a couple of weeks ago and just didn't have a chance to write a review but wanted to circle back. This restaurant is situated on the corner of victory Drive, so parking is somewhat tight however there is parking behind the restaurant and on the opposite side you can drive around if needed. This is not a dine Inn restaurant but takeout and options to sit outside if the weather permits. They do have a couple of tables and a covered area with one or two sitting areas for you to eat there as well. The menu is pretty self-explanatory with a wide range of seafood options wings, and other sides. They also have the prerequisite bean pie, which I found my slice to be nice warm and tasty. I ordered the fish sandwich which was a healthy amount of fish on a bun with lettuce and tartar sauce with fries and a drink and I believe that all came to less than $10, so definitely a value. It took about 10 minutes max for my order to be prepared and my name to be called and I was off and on my way. Definitely a great alternative to the McDonald's, which is a couple of hundred yards away across the parkway but you obviously are going to have to get out of the car to enjoy it. read more

After watching Daym Drops' review of this spot I had to drop in and check it myself. My wife and I ordered the Shabazz Combination Dinner with fish and fried shrimp. Let me start by saying the service was fast and friendly, but let's get straight into the food portion of the review. The fish was just ok. It wasn't seasoned as I like and the breading was too soft, meaning it wasn't fried for the long. I usually like a little crunch on the exterior, but I suppose that's not what Shabazz does, or maybe I should have told him to fry it a little longer for that crunch. I also wasn't getting fresh as the advertising states. The shrimp was also ok, but like the fish, wasn't seasoned well. I wish they had an option between wheat and white bread. I know I'm being picky on this, but most fish spots or fish frys you go to serve up white bread. The French fries had zero seasoning on it. Salt, seasoning salt, or Old Bay would go a long way to make those fries pop. The fries were also soft. No crunch on the exterior. It was like they were baptized in oil and brought back up. We seriously have to do better on those fries. Salad was basic, crunchy iceberg and and two grape tomatoes. I have seen this place mini mini times, but had yet to stop again. Another coworker wanted to go eat lunch normally I don't go anywhere to eat lunch so she wanted fried fish. We went to Shabazz seafood restaurant I think the sandwich itself and all the ingredients was good I didn't care for the french fries. They came with the Shabazz Fish Supreme but overall it was good. The juice I drink was a little too sweet for my liking a half of that I will go back and try theYasmin Crab Sandwich on my next return. place has been here I know ever since I came to savannah over 10 years ago and never came because it looked small and hard to get to. from what I see all that is still true for my first visit. I would wish they would relocate but who am I to say. anyway I first pulled in and couldn't park because the parking isn't controlled and ppl parked crazy. service is slow and u have to scream thru a small box to place ur order.. as so far as the food I'm still wondering what salaam beef means and Malika means for the juice. food quality is good not great. burger served on regular wheat bread. food not seasoned like I thought should fish should be. Saw this establishment on Fresh, Fried and Crispy on Netflix so I had to stop by and try the food. The Shabazz Fish Supreme Combo was ridiculously good. The side of fries was nice and fresh and the punch was very good. The customer service was very nice, the owner even gave my daughter an ice cream cone . The exterior of the building really gives the small local business appeal. With how busy it was though, it would make more sense if they open up a second window for pickup while the other window can be for orders. read more

I had previously seen this place on a Netflix show, Fresh, Fried, and Crispy. The food looked really good and the host gave it a really good talk up. So on a family trip my husband and I stopped in to support a local, small business. What a mistake. We ordered the Supreme Fish Sandwich combo, it came with fries and a drink for their advertised price of $8.50, posted right on their sign, at the ordering window. My husband took a $10 and when he went to pay it was more than that. When I asked to verify the order to make sure we were on the same page the cashier rang us up for each individual item. It was corrected, and we paid. There were (3) others behind us, so we stepped aside and they all ordered and received their food before ours. I didn't think anything of it at all, though the interaction with the cashier still wasn't sitting right with me. As I was going back to the window, ironically my food was coming out at the same time (it was cooked after everyone else's -- all they serve is fish, so my fish sandwich should've taken (2) minutes or less) I heard the woman in the back tell the cashier it was the order for "the white b!tch". My husband (Colombian and African) and I (a white b!tch) are from Miami and we're disgusted by the racism, from a *very* proud black owned business. Coming from out of town to show support. AFTER our experience of being over charged -- which now made sense, and disrespectful behavior, I was curious to see other reviews. Wouldn't you know, others have experienced racism from employees here as well. My recommendation to the owner with his own personally designated parking spot to the right of the Shabazz hut with only (3) other spots in the gravel lot; * Correct all spelling on your signage. * Over charging leaves a foul taste -- worse than your food. * Racism will get you a Yelp review for other "white b!tches" with their mixed families to see. * If your staff continually serves up poor service according to color, you'll stop seeing green. 0/10 even rating the food unbiased to the racism. * The Malika juice is advertised as fresh fruit juices, and it's literally the same red Kool-Aid I drank growing up. It was 0% fresh fruit and 100% artificial. But maybe that's just what they serve the white folks. read more

My husband wanted to visit this restaurant because he saw it on Netflix. And the guy on Netflix did a great job making it seem as if this were the place to eat! The first thing my husband said was it looked cleaner on tv. I told him I'm sure it did because they prolly cleaned it up for tv. Anywho, the food was very expensive to me for the amount of food that you get. My son and I ordered fried shrimp dinner and for the price I thought we would've gotten jumbo shrimp. The shrimp was very small. My daughter ordered the sandwich that we saw on tv. It was actually pretty good. My husband got the fish dinner. He seemed to enjoy it. All of us ordered fries and all of our fries were cold. Ummm I'm not sure that I'd eat here again after traveling from Atlanta. We decided to try Shabazz after seeing it in the Netflix show. The host did a good job hyping it up However, I should have read the reviews. We got jumbo fish sandwiches with fries and juice. We also ordered a whole bean pie for delivery at our hotel. The fish was average in taste bordering on overcooked. Of course the fries were cold, but expected because of delivery. We did not get a whole pie for $13, but a slice. I tried several times to call the Carryout several times so I can get a refund at least for the error. No answer read more

My review is based off their customer service. I'm from Philly on vacation so maybe this is normal down here. If so, I apologize. Ordered my food for PICKUP via postmates. Sat in the car right outside the restaurant for 20 mins while my order was "being prepared." I go to check on my order at the time they said it would be ready and I'm the 6th person in line after learning they do not have a designated place for pickups. Ordering, paying and picking up all out the same 1 window. 30 mins later, I finally get to the front and I hear "Please wait" as she gives out the orders of the last 2 people before me. I give them my info and tell them it's a pickup order. They ask me to get my phone so they can see the order. I volunteer to tell them the order but they insist I go get my phone from the car. I come back and they are TAKING THE ORDER OF THE CUSTOMER BEHIND ME. At this point, I realized this place did not deserve my money so I canceled the order and ended up getting free food. I saw this restaurant on Fresh, Fried and Crispy and I wanted to try it. I'm from Chicago and since my visit here I have been underwhelmed with a lot of the food. We came around 2pm and it wasn't busy. I ordered the fish sandwich meal and it didn't disappoint. It reminds me of a place in Chicago called Dock's. I was pleasantly surprised to find this localized hole in the wall open. I've been here on a few occasions and the doors remained closed. Today was my lucky day. When I arrived I couldn't tell if they were open however. There were two local women looking at the pOsted wall menu. I was a little taken back because tHe ONLY fIsh they sell was whiting. Out of all the fish that swim, they had no perch, no flounder, no trout, no cod just plain ol whiting... there may have been a shrimp selection on the menu.. I ordered the fish. 10 bucks got you plenty oh fish, fries and a iceberg salad. They were out of hot sauce.. got my to go container and glanced at the fish that was sealed in a to go bag in styrofoam. Presentation was simply ok. It had a corn flour base to coating. It was really nothing that would warrant my come back. You had to order through a window that you could nnot see the person taking your money unless you squint your eyes. The food came out of a tin contraption that tHey had to lower the food into- ghetto fab style. Look like the glass was impact proof you had to place your head down to the tin contraptions opening to carry a conversation to the person takinG your order. We were visiting Savannah and I was looking for somewhere local to eat a light late lunch. I pulled this spot up and I was not disappointed. The lady who took my order was friendly and answered each question I had regarding the menu. They have fresh crab, fish, and shrimp options and dinner plates. I ordered the shrimp plate which came with 16 large shrimp, fries, whole wheat bread, and tossed salad. It also included a "Shabazz" sauce which my husband said was good. I don't like mayo and thought it may be mayo based, so I did not try. The food was hot and fresh.We also ordered the Shabazz juice, which I felt was pricey for size, but had an okay flavor. Food Came out very quickly (maybe 5 minutes max). This was a Saturday afternoon around 3pm. We will definitely be back to try the crab cake burger when in Savannah. My suggestion would be to break down what items are on the menu so the customer doesn't have to keep asking what items are when it's their turn to order. Overall a good experience read more

Anytime you got a lot people hanging out at a food restaurant just as they are opening is worth stopping to check it out. Shabazz was definitely worth stopping for. Let me start by saying this. I 100% try my absolute best to support black owned businesses. The owners of this establishment, from what I understand, are pillars of the community and perhaps this review will be an eye opener to what I have experienced 3x at Shabazz. My most recent experience happened only 15 minutes ago. I called Shabazz to place a Togo order and was left on hold for 38 MIN. I could hear everything that was taking place at the restaurant yet NOONE ever picked back up the phone to ask me what I wanted to order. I was on hold so long that I stopped at Popeyes to get food because NOONE at Shabazz would pick up the phone. I decided to leave it on hold to see how long it would take for them to say something. After 38 min, I gave up. To put this in perspective anyone else who called during that time would have gone unanswered as well!! I saw this business on Netflix and decided to patronize because of the history however on my first visit, they were completely disorganized with how they were taking orders and cashing ppl out and the wait was horrendous! The second time I arrived at 11:45am on a Saturday only to find them just arriving and taking supplies in to the restaurant, they told me they open at 12pm??? Like why? What lunch restaurant opens at 12 noon??? I will NEVER go to Shabazz again because clearly they don't value their customers AT ALL! I own a travel business and ppl are always asking me where to go in Savannah, no matter what great advice I give my clients and friends, I will be sure to tell them about the lack of respect and common decency Shabazz shows it customers!!!!! Visiting Savannah and came across this local staple in the community. I heard about it after seeing it on netflix. The shrimp and bean pie were the highlights. The bean pie was hands down the best I ever had. Crispy brown pie crust, hot out the oven with a custard filling. The breading on the shrimp was full of flavors and seasoned well. I visited town for the christmas break, and a family member took me to Shabazz for the first time last week for an authentic southern style fish sandwich. Since last week I have been going there three times. They are definitely worth the 20 min drive. The portion is great and the staff are very friendly and guess what, very economic prices!!!
