Paid a hella lot of money for a chicken tender combo....got the smallest burnt tenders Ive ever seen in my life, very few fries and a flat drink. Form the start , minus 1 star for the slow service and lack of employees. The location is in the border of Scotts Valley, on Scotts Valley drive. Right across from Scotts Valley market and a Jack in the Box and many other businesses. The location and the extensive menu of different burgers and chicken sandwiches shakes make up for the other stars. This is the only Carls in the immediate 831 area for a while. It is also the last stop for gas for 16 miles until Los Gatos comes and your done with the mountain stretch of highway 17. The dippable vegetarian options like jalapeño poppers, waffle fries are perfect for to go eating on the go while driving. You can tell this Carls Jr. is mostly a drive thru popular spot as I noticed the employees weeks bagging up multiple drive thru orders before even getting my simple 3 item order for 15 minutes literally earlier. There were only a few people in the line but it took forever for all of us to get our food and we ended up chatting for a while. Would like to give special recognition to Denzel. I've been to this location a few times for my lunch break or after work and the food had always been fresh. The worker named Denzel showed a lot of hospitality and politeness. He made sure the order was correct, and put extra salt and napkins (as requested) and asked if it was a good amount. Just got food here with my son and it was the most pleasant experience in a fast food restaurant I have had in a decade. When all service these days seems lackluster, Donny was amazing. I've always had good food and excellent service eating inside, but made the mistake of getting a drive-through order yesterday. Nobody was behind me, but since I ordered a large crosscut fries, the counter person asked me to pull to the side. I did, but no cars ever came behind me. They were obviously cooking a fresh order of crosscut fries. The lady then brought the food out and I went home to find there were only 5 fries in the box and two tiny French fries. The cheeseburgers tasted fine, but I was shocked that making an entire new basket of crosscut fries only resulted in me getting 5...for a large order. It didn't even remotely fill the provided container. So, if you utilize the takeout window herein, you need to check ALL your food. It's so frustrating, as I really used to enjoy stopping off here. Given how overpriced Carl's has become generally, it's hard to get excited when you don't get enough food. In looking at some recent reviews, it looks like others have reported getting the wrong food, no food at all or having charging issues. It's hard to discern if it's just the takeout experience since I haven't dined in for a while and everything was fine then. Chalk it up (likely) to new and/or poorly trained employees who don't care. Carl's Jr was one of my go to burger shops. I used to enjoy the Six Dollar Burger w/cheese. Guess they changed the name when it got to be more than $6,lol, to the Angus original. Absolutely horrible, ordered a spicy chicken combo through the drive-through, pulled over to have a fry which was absolutely ice cold and hard as a rock. Took it back into the restaurant where I was given fresh french fries, that's a good thing until I went out and started to eat my sandwich which was cold and dry. At that point threw it away I will never come back here again I have no idea how a business can stay in business that way. I always have a good experience, nice ladies who run the drive-thru window. Always polite and patient. They are generous with sauce packets and don't charge extra for them like McD's. I've never gotten a bad tasting meal. One time they forgot my food and replaced the food and gave me a coupon for the next visit. This is a clean convenient location. The food is reasonably price a basic burger fries and soda is $1 The restroom and the facilities are clean and the staff is very friendly. Fries were nothing special but not bad either. They were a bit undersalted for my taste, as well as slightly undercooked. Carl's Jr. also goes with the typical take-out fry container cup, which is frankly difficult to use when trying to dip the fries in ketchup instead of pouring the ketchup on top of the fries, only leading to more messy fingers. Supremely disappointing. I live in town and have come to this Carl's Jr. before. During the week days this place is run well. But the food I just received was disgusting. I ordered a beyond burger. It wasn't cooked and even though it's not meat, I'm pretty sure I would've got sick if I'd eaten it. It was nothing like the way it was ordered; slathered in some gross sauce with about 20 pickles. This has happened twice at this restaurant in the evening and that just reflects on the management and the lack of care that the employees have about doing their job properly. By the time you're home, it's not worth going back for and they know that. During Covid they got a pass. But no more. I would not recommend this Carl's Jr. No way! Love the Beyond Burger options offered here. As a family of vegans and vegetarians it can be difficult to find fast food options but the Beyond option available here surpass what one would normally expect from a fast food burger joint. Their vegan and vegetarian burgers here are not cheap, especially considering it's fast food, but they are of equal or better quality to what you might get from a more formal sit down restaurant. read more

I 'm a rabbit...I mean I Don"t ever eat fast food, but after coming into Scotts Valley from 17 I was hungrier than usual I ordered a famous Starr intending to toss bun ( and possibly meat, hah ) and eat the produce only ' ok, yep I'm a kook...but wait! I give it a 1 for my soda. I ordered the new golden sandwich and a small coke. When I went to the window the lady looked at me and didn't say anything so I handed her my card to find out the total was 11.95 which is crazy for a sandwich and a small drink. Previously, the worst Carl's Jr. I've ever experienced was the now defunct location at UN Plaza in San Francisco https://www.yelp.com/biz/carls-jr-san-francisco-2. Tonight's experience at the Scott's Valley franchise now exceeds the unpleasantness of anything I've ever experienced elsewhere. At least when I witnessed a stabbing at the former SF civic center franchise, the staff and shift manager handled the situation with dignity and professionalism. Tonight I drove 12 miles down a mountain road to Scott's Valley and was turned away almost a FULL HOUR before both Google and the www.carlsjr.com website stated the restaurant was closed. Yes, both Google and Carl's Jr's own website stated dining is open until 10PM, yet I was turned away at 9:10PM after a long drive to get there. That alone would have potentially yielded a higher review, were it not for the departing shift manager's piss poor attitude for even having the audacity to ask what the hours were. I was first told to "call corporate". I did right then and there and was told that the restaurant still was indeed open. The shift manager then became belligerent and started spouting obscenities about it "being a franchise". Needless to say I won't be back. In retrospect, I sorely miss the courtesy and professionalism of the staff at the now defunct SF Civic Center location, which I had previously deemed one of the worst fast food experiences of my life, Scott's Valley is far worse because of the attitudes of the staff. I'm not even sure where to begin. The food was fine, and my wife and I came in for dinner in the early evening. A woman came in and changed her baby's diaper on a table in the dining room. The employees watched and did nothing! I called the manager out, who did NOTHING! Then the woman moves to another table, because the old table was dirty and had had a diaper on it, and then started breast feeding out in the open, wiping her baby's face and throwing the napkins on the table. The "manager" did NOTHING! Then because table #2 was dirty, she went to table number three with her family to eat. I have NEVER been so disgusted in my whole life, and the fact the staff, including the "manager", did NOTHING was infuriating. Someone could die from that bacteria, and the staff nor the manager ever cleaned any of the tables during all of this even after notifying them of it -- they didn't want to deal with it. I am reporting them to the local health department. It was the most repugnant dining experience my wife and I have ever experienced, and if they were so negligent in dealing with keeping the dining room safe and clean, I can't imagine what goes on in the back room where no one can see them preparing the food. read more
