The staff here truly work as a team. They are polite, respectful, communicative, and loyal. Any time I called they were very friendly on the phone. On one occasion I needed to drop off a check to them prior to the business office opening for the day (I was on my way to work). The gentleman in the service department went and asked her if she was willing to help me and she agreed to and was so kind about it. Lastly, the car had a couple of minor issues with it that I noticed in the first couple of weeks of my purchase. This has got to be the worst CarMax I've ever been to. Danny the sales guy kept pressuring us into vehicles we clearly were not interested in. Once we decided on a vehicle he repeatedly screwed up our finance application to the point where I was nervous he was going to make a very costly mistake. After the sale was done the day after the vehicle had bad rotors and needed to be taken in to service for repair. Danny made absolutely zero effort to follow up with me about the vehicle I just purchased and then a few days later calls to complain to me about what a "great" salesman he is. I have purchased my last two cars from my Beaverton OR Carmax, and I wouldn't go anywhere else. They are the best salespeople ever!! They pride themselves on being helpful, but not pushy. Another thing that Carmax does that I don't think any other car dealership does is: when you drive it off the lot you have 7 days to test drive the car, then if your not satisfied for any reason you can bring the car back, and get a full refund! You don't even have to buy another car if you don't want to, but they would be happy if you did.. I recommend Carmax to anyone buying a used or new car! read more

Let me first say that my overall experience was...OK Salesman was good, and everyone was nice. Here is my complaint. When I asked our salesman about the apparent worn tires and his response was that they met our legal standards. Well less than 2 weeks later I got a nail in one of our tire and Les Schwab could not repair it because the tire did not meet legal standards. Hmmm....we drove it about 75 miles and it couldn't be fixed because it had too poor of tread? But, but....CarMax said it was fine. So $1200 later we have new tires. Number 2 complaint-The mats were from some other make of car. They were not Lexus mats. Number 3 complaint-in the back cargo area of our Lexus 450h there is supposed to be a tarp that mounts back there and retracts. It hides any valuables that you lock in that area. That retractable tarp was missing. They didn't seem to know if they had one or not. As it turns out they did not have the one that came with the car, it was nowhere to be found. Dealer cost for replacement? $750-$1200!!! So some things were just ok but some things were not. Overall this has/will cost us additional money ($1000-$2000) to make things right. read more

I only have good things to say about this location. I worked primarily with Jerry, who was so friendly and helpful with finding the car I wanted. He was very professional and really knowledgeable about most cars . He really wanted me to be happy with my final purchase and he went over and beyond to ensure this. This way, the bottom line was not always about "making the sale" but more about " I want this customer to have a good experience and help her get the car she wants. In addition, I want her to be happy even after she leaves the lot. " There was no pressure, fast talking nonsense, just genuine help with getting the right car. No haggle price but major hassle to purchase. First I wanted to look at a car on a Saturday afternoon but had to wait to make an appointment. Ok. Went midday Sunday and loved the car. Now the hassle. It needed a front end alignment on a two year old car. Ok again. Twenty or more phone calls later I was told the car was being held "hostage" at the dealership they took the car too for other unpaid bills. If I hadn't really wanted this color car I would have called it done. Looked all over for another one and found one in California but it had sold the night before. Asked to speak to the general manager, Bill, and left a message and no call back. Don't expect it to be good communication between you and them. They have a memorized script of answers. So decided to give it another day to see if anything straightened out. So here we are late Thursday waiting for an appointment to pay and pick up the car. Still don't have it yet but hopefully this nightmare will have a happy ending. read more

We had just left Wilsonville Mercedes, where they had offered us $110,000 for our 2021 Cadillac Escalade platinum ESV sport, they are currently selling for about $135,000 so we knew the dealership was gonna make some pretty good money, we went to Carmax to come get a competitive " , after waiting around for about an hour, they came back with $73,000 seemed like a bunch of 15-year-olds working in there, they pulled the Vin number, but did not bother to look up the fact that it was a Platinum Sport, they didn't seem to know what an ESV was. And they didn't bother to put in the $10,000 self driving feature. While I was there, I went and inspected some vehicles that were on the lot, pretty much all the vehicles on their lot had some form of small damage, and from what I could tell they were asking retail plus plus!! Typical giant corporation, lacking in customer, service and quality of product. In my opinion every single thing that's wrong with the world can be found right here.! read more

On 7/31/19 I had my car appraised and was told my car had frame damage from a previous accident and therefore the value of the car is 5k below market. The accident was professionally repaired over two years ago and I have been driving the vehicle without issue since. Alarmed by the thought of my vehicle having damage still, I went back to my auto insurance and told them my car had frame damage still and that I would be taking the car back to the body shop for inspection. Had the car checked out the body shop and was told there are absolutely no signs of body damage and that there is certainly no way for an appraiser to have seen ANY signs of an accident much less frame damage. So who do I believe a Carmax "appraiser" or a licensed well-known body shop that has served the community for over sixty years? Me thinking the day i bought it it has been switched i asked them 3 times about the battery that to make sure it's switched. once i get my new car it didnt turn on . i got a loaner car even though i didnt needed it in the first place and i returned a car that i bought 2 days after i purchased it without even have taken it home all because they didnt really do what i got told . on top of that they had me back and forth and til this day i havent gotten my money back and they keep telling me one thing then another thing theres alott more details to this situation but i dont recommend this place at all . read more

I purchased a 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan from them a few months ago, and after quite a process, I'll say I am quite pleased with the service I received (with a few caveats). To start off, CarMax has an excellent warranty on their vehicles; 7 days to return the car for a full refund, and 90 days/4,000 miles to get any mechanical issues dealt with for free. Because of this warranty, I would recommend CarMax to a friend. However, I would not trust the integrity of the vehicle solely based off the 5 point inspection done by the CarMax service team. I'll cut to the chase, by the end of the warranty CarMax paid out about $8,300 dollars in repairs on my Tiguan that I purchased for $14k. I'll admit, those guys work on all sorts of vehicles, and so the service you get from a shop like that is simply not going to be as knowledgable as if you went to mechanic that specializes in one make of car. But the CarMax techs sure missed quite a bit. Normally, through the warranty, if anything is wrong with the car you would take it back to CarMax and have them look at it. Lucky for me, I lived out of town nowhere near a CarMax. For this reason, they let me take the vehicle to a Volkswagen dealership to have the professionals work on it, and I just gave them a CarMax employee's contact info for payment. I HIGHLY recommend going this route. If you live near a CarMax, go "stay a weekend at a friend's out of town," and find any reason to bring it in to a shop (noises, leaks, smells, anything). Call CarMax and they should approve it, and you can take it to the dealership that specializes in your car's make, where it can be properly inspected. CarMax was extremely loyal to the warranty, and paid every penny of the expenses, which deserves some applause. If you buy a car from them, you need to be extra aware of car issues during the time of the warranty (don't forget it's 90 days, or 4,000 miles, whichever comes first). Make sure to pay attention to all sounds, smells, weird vibrations, etc. Check the window seals for leaks, anything... When it was all said and done, I am very impressed that CarMax was loyal to the warranty to the extensive amount of money that went into repairs. I am happy with my vehicle, and the service I received. Just be weary of their service inspection, and take my advice about taking it to the professionals! read more

I was in a car accident and when my car was declared a total I had only a week of entail left to find a car. I saw one on line and Mike got it to the Beaverton lot in just a couple of days. I came in we took it for a test drive. I asked Mike about one other car and with no problem we took it for a test drive. Without pressure Mike and I talked about the differences in the cars. The first was more miles ,more money. The second one was what I was leaning to. Mike help me with my decision with out making me feel guilty about the one he had moved Dow from Seattle. The paperwork was quick easy and no pressure for "add on's" like I had ,had at other dealers. After a day or two I saw a small hole in the arm rest and a smell to the air conditioner. A quick note on the app to Mike and I had an appointment with the service department. They replaced a filter in the air conditioner and the hole was repaired beautifully. No charge. If you want to hear about how much of a clusterfuck this place is, keep reading. My husband has been looking for a specific car for a while. He found it at a Carmax in California with a transfer fee we could get behind. We did their online application for transfer. Probably 100 questions. I didn't understand why the transaction wasn't just to pay the $200 to transfer. The car is in Northern California but it quotes 3 weeks until delivery. Not something we expected. A two weeks later we get a call. My husband normally works their business hours so we let them know it was going to be Wednesday before we could get there (the call occurred Sunday). No problem, they said. We get there and it's no longer reserved. A little disheartening. We used outside financing and while cumbersome, we got through it and gave them a check. I would say the back and forth between my credit union and Carmax to get my credit union what they needed was about 4 hours total- but at least that's not sitting in the dealership. 20 hours after we walked out with the car my husband calls to say there is major issues with the car. He hobbles it home and the next time we start it, the dash is lit up like a Christmas tree. We called and got transferred to service. We waited 45 minutes on hold before we gave up and he took it to the dealership. He waited at least an hour there trying to get it scheduled to be worked on. They told him they can't prioritize it so it wouldn't be looked at until Monday. It was Thursday and Monday was a holiday. There was no priority given for our situation even though we drove it off the lot the day before. They didn't take him seriously and had a joking tone all while probably still having our check in their safe. We got it back on Wednesday. It was likely moded and a sensor disconnected causing the issue. We thought long and hard about keeping it but we paid over MSRP for a three year old car with dings so as soon as it had issues, I wanted out. Taking the car back was more painless than expected. We were assured that the refund to our credit union would occur within two weeks. Guess what still hadn't been mailed when I called three weeks later? Our salesperson was great. The return, other than the lack of refund on time, good. Everything else was a clusterfuck by people that could not care less about your experience. Never again. read more

Went on a Saturday just to check out what they had and to get an appraisal on my vehicle. I test drove a vehicle I had seen online and really liked it but was unsure what the appraisal for my vehicle would be. While test driving my vehicle was appraised and when the salesperson and I returned from the drive and my appraisal was done I was approached by the manager. He asked me if I had had any accidents in my vehicle in the past and I replied I had not (I had bought from CarMax on the east coast 8 months ago). He then explained to me that they had found front end damage and it had indeed been in an accident that had not been disclosed to me by the CarMax dealer back east. He then stated there was an error and offered to buy my vehicle back at the FULL price I paid for it!!!! I opted to go with the vehicle I test drove, they took my vehicle and I received a $2500 check for the difference in price!!! I was taken aback that they could be so forthcoming with their company, this is what true professionalism is all about. I will ALWAYS buy from CarMax in the future. Like most of these reviews, my car buying experience was absolutely stellar at the Beaverton CarMax. I bought a Nissan Juke with Alicya and never dreamed I would have to return it. Turns out the car gave me horrible back pain of all things?! Poor Alicya got me in the very next day and helped me purchase a Kia Sportage (which btw is the most comfortable car I've ever owned). The return process was so smooth and easy. I was in and out in about 2 hours! That would NEVER happen at a dealership. My amazing CarMax experience didn't stop there. I purchased a remote start system for my Kia and the third party coordinator they gave me to get it installed didn't work. The service department completely took over for me. They called around and found a shop who could do the install, gave me a loaner car and they drove my car to the installer so I wouldn't have to. The install went completely smooth and was ready for me to pick it up in 2 days! Honorable mention goes to Celine, the service manager for going WAY over and beyond to make sure the install happened, and Adam in service who helped get me taken care of with the loaner car. I will never go anywhere else for the rest of my life as long as Alicya, Celine and Adam are there! Thank you so much guys for making it the best car buying experience I have ever had! read more

Went into carmax for buy back on our older car ('98), and we were actually looking forward to it and seeing what we could get out of it. The salesman working with us was nice and polite to us...until we made our decision after the appraisal. My husband thought long and hard deciding whether or not the buy back was worth it (they were giving $300. That barely made back what we just paid the day before to fix a major problem with the car). I figured the reason for the low buyback was because of the problems the car still has, but it wasn't! While my husband was making phone calls, the salesman tells me that they mainly look at the YEAR and MILEAGE on the car! The car does have ~100,000, but if you put work into a Camry, they are known for lasting 300,000 miles! If that didn't upset us a bit, when my husband makes the decision (and it's to keep the car), the salesman comes off as rude and DISRESPECTFUL of OUR DECISION!!! I told him that honestly, Kelley Blue Book value says that the car is at least $1,300 in the condition it is. You could tell in his voice and response that he was pissed: he tells us that KBB is basically B.S. and that since they don't sell cars, we shouldn't be using it. What upset me even more is that he begins to say that the degree in which we listed our car on KBB was incorrect, and in much worse condition than what's described as "good" on the KBB site. Oh, and the ending of his rant? : "$300 is the best offer. I can tell you now that dealerships aren't even going to buy back your car...." Okay, was that even called for?!?? In the end, I'm sorry we wasted an hour of the salespersons time...but does he realize that our time was wasted as well, and that he left us with a bitter taste in our mouth about CarMax?! I kept reading reviews that said CarMax gave them a fair price on the purchase of their old vehicle. So I tried it. Did I get a fair price? You decide. kbb.com listed my trade-in value at $10,000 to $11,000. CarMax offered me $9,000. Nationally, CarMax sells cars nearly identical to mine (same make, model, year, options, and similar mileage) for $15,000 to $16,000. My feeling is that, while the people were pleasant, the overall experience was overwhelmingly negative. The problem was that the consultant said that they would be interested in my car and encouraged me to drive down from Olympia, WA (2.5 hours each way through brutal Portland traffic). In retrospect, I should have known not to believe a word he said after he told me that Kelley Blue Book applied only to new cars (?!). In the end, I was very upset that I wasted an entire day to get what I feel was a very low offer from CarMax. read more

The salesperson was friendly and knowledgeable, and there was zero pressure. He seemed to focus on finding the right car for our lifestyle, and didn't shy away from discussing downsides as well as positives. He did more listening than talking, which was an unexpected plus. We shopped at both Beaverton and Clackamas, but ended up requesting a distant vehicle using the website. That car never moved until 5 days later when we asked why it was still for sale at the original location. We actually gave up on Carmax because this process had us feeling set up for disappointment. The salesperson was responsive and helpful, but "the system" never did what the website said it would. However the car did arrive, in fact we were called while at another dealer. Other than moving a car, shopping online was a good experience. The car we ordered had solid info and clear photos, which was a big help. Test drives are only allowed on a very limited, flat circuit. It includes 217, but depending on traffic there may be no way to get over about 45mph. Lots of happy-talk. Every car is "your car" the moment you show interest. Tires are 20% tread, brakes have 30% life, mileage is always highway, stuff like that. The so-so interest rate was "terrific" (maybe they see a lot of poor-credit buyers). Standard sales tactics, really. Refreshingly, there was no "let me check with my manager." Sales/financing is very computer-based; the rep walked through the steps, so we understood what was happening. One selling point was competitive finance offers, but that doesn't happen if your credit is decent because Carmax claims you. In other words, "the manager" is a computer algorithm. At least the algorithm is fast and never "steps out of the office," so it's better than my previous experiences. From deciding to buy to driving away was about an hour. Service is our biggest concern. Friendly, attentive people, but missed or flat-out wrong communication. Seems very understaffed. Our one interaction wasn't awful, but also not confidence-inspiring. So overall, a better experience than car-brand dealerships, and nothing felt smarmy. Everyone we interacted with was pleasant and professional, but Carmax still feels like a giant car-selling machine. read more

People were nice but I got low balled by a lot. Carmax was the first place I took my 2003 Honda Accord with 85k miles. I was offered $3200 because the transmission was slipping. I told them I am the original owner and I have never noticed that. They said that price was fair. I refused and took the car to Kuni used car center were I was offer $5200 without a test dirve! My experience with CarMax exceeded expectations at every step even after the purchase. The trick for CarMax is to have done your homework first-- Kelly Blue Book, shopping around to compare prices, etc. First of all their website was super friendly, and they made it easy to make a list of my favorites. I also got emails later in the week/month of price drops for a couple of the cars on my list. So when it came to buying a pre-owned car, I chose CarMax because they had the right used car for me and their price was competitive so much so that I felt confident enough that haggling was a moot point because I knew what was out there. When it came to the buying experience, Jerry Egger, an associate at this location, was easy, affable, and knowledgeable too. Coincidently he also owns an Acura MDX and told me about his experience both the good and not so good. He was thorough too... he had his service department deal with an issue in the trunk that he discovered upon our second visit. I especially liked that I never had to set foot at the DMV for a license plate (they have them there) or anything else-- they take care of all the paperwork at closing. Another great advice I took that he gave was to get a pre-owned car inspection at the dealership during the 5 day window for return. This was crucial as they found a few issues that I subsequently emailed to Jerry. Their service department was excellent-- they really stand behind their pre-owned car certification-- and fixed the issues that were revealed by the inspection. Finally, their CarMax extended service prices are very competitive as well, certainly better than that of the dealership, and yet you could still use the dealership's service center with their warranty. The only thing that kind of irked me was that they don't use CarFax so you don't have a history of the maintenance from previous owner(s). I originally found online a ford explorer xlt in tx for 31998k and from the get go, I offered $30k. The guy from texas said that was fine and he would have oregon rep contact me to make arrangements for shipment. I talked to hunter and paid $895 to ship vehicle. I am now being told it is still $31998+187 dmv fee=$32185. I told hunter I agreed to $30k_dmv fee and if this was not going to be the case, i would not have paid to have it shipped up here. I can't believe he was going to quivel with me over $1998. I said $30k from the very beginning. I never changed on that and now I only have my word against this Texas man. NOT FAIR- NOT HAPPY. I even had a 99 dodge intreprid as trade-in. I either want the deal I thought I had or I want my $895 refunded back to me!!!!!!.I am not happy with carmax and I've asked for a district mgr, vp, decision maker, and instead I get hunter calling me back that he got notification I wanted to reset appt for pickup. I told him I said no such thing and I want manager to either make this right or give me my money back. I know $1998 make not be a big deal for some of you but it is a big deal to me and $30k is what I offered and it was agreed to.
