I had a vehicle transferred from Tulsa, OK to this store since it was closest to my house. It is smaller than most the other CarMax locations that I have been to but all the people were super nice and helpful! I think I have reached the age (55) where I am tired of being run over. Carmax (Denton) service department and manager need to learn what customer service looks like. Come to my library and I will show you what it's like to feel welcomed. Matt and Shawn you need some help in this area. Carmax you are wrong. I dont need an appointment to stop by your store to talk about an issue with the car I just purchased. It was sad to return the car but I really do have limits. I didn't want to face the prospects of conflict each time I needed service in the future. In fairness, i will add that the salesman, Frank, was a true gentleman. I can also state that both Madison, and Bre, who tried to help me when I returned for a second attempt and resolve the issue were kind and considerate. Unfortunately, when the manager, Matt, was informed he immediately stated I did need to make an appointment. After my experience with the service technician, Shawn and again with Matt, I knew the service at Carmax would be a perpetual problem for as long as I owed the car. In my opinion, the cars at Carmax are decent, and the sales individuals are professional and very helpful. If service after the sale is important to you, I would recommend you consider buying from some other establishment. read more

I picked out a new car & got an appraisal for my trade in. Unfortunately, my mom's name was also on my trade in vehicle, so she needed to be there... but she lives an hour away. They offered to hold the new car for me for 5 days (when they usually only hold for 1-3 I believe). I was thankful & scheduled an appt to come back. After realizing that we did not have the physical title to the trade in, we went to the DMV to get a copy.... and ran into a ton of issues. I needed a letter from Chase that wouldnt come in for 10-14 days. I went back to CarMax and explained and they called Chase and found a way to get the copy the next day. They also made an exception and let us file the purchasing paperwork then, since my mom had traveled there, so she wouldnt have to make an extra trip. I was able to leave with my new car and with no extra work needed on my part. I really appreciate how many hoops the staff jumped through for me to be able to complete my purchase! This was my first experience with CarMax and it was way better than any other dealership. Highly recommend. read more

Contacted the dealership online to sell my truck. The first offer was reasonable and clearly indicated it was only valid for 7 days. Give that the dealership is NOT open on Sunday one of the 7 days was not available i went on the next open day. Guess what the next offer was $800 less. When asked to explain why the value would change the "manager" working at this time could only offer "our website says it's only valid for 7 days". What a scam. I left this store drive less than 1/2 mile to a new car dealer and received an offer over $2K more than the orginal CarMax offer. Avoid Carmax at all costs, they will avoid assisting you after purchasing whenever possible. I bought a vehicle from Carmax recently. Soon after buying it, I noticed that the tires had a tendency to deflate. I called Carmax asking that they address this, and the representative specifically informed me that they would address this tire issue per my vehicle's warranty. They scheduled a service appointment so that this tire issue would be addressed. After calling ahead of this appointment, Carmax told me they would not honor this agreement they had made, and would not address the tire issue. So now I am stuck paying for a tire repair out of pocket because this company that had been promised to me. read more

Very poor car-buying experience. I have waited to post this review for a while, but decided to go ahead. I purchased my car a few months ago at this Car Max location. I had already checked online and found they had the particular car I was interested in. When I went to look at the car, the person who showed it to me didn't know very much about it, including that it required premium unleaded fuel. I even asked about this TWICE because I felt sure it required premium. Two days after purchase, I went to fill the tank, and what do you suppose it says right on the inside of the fuel door? "Premium Unleaded Fuel Only." I had to return to the dealership because, somehow, my financing documents had been "lost," so I had to go back and resign everything again. While I was there, I told the manager about the misinformation regarding my car needing premium unleaded fuel. He proceeded to man-splain to me about how you -could- put regular unleaded in it and it would be fine. He had no response when I asked if putting the incorrect octane level of fuel into my car would void my extended service agreement. This experience was so poor it soured how I perceived my new-to-me car. It has only been in the last month or so that I have come to like my car. I would not recommend this dealership. I will not purchase anything from them in future. Not really interested in doing business with any CarMax ever again. read more

*BUYER BEWARE* Shop at CarMax, they said. The CarMax business Sloan is " BUILT ON A FOUNDATION OF INTEGRITY", they said....It seems to me that the Carmax of Denton did not get the message. On Friday 4/30/21 I was contacted by Tiffany with the Denton Location about my pre-approved loan for a car. After giving me two choices for vehicles I picked the older model vehicle with less mileage. We finalized my financing and Alex informed me I has approval offers from Exeter and COAF. I picked Exeter and agreed to the BuyFromHome Delivery for a down payment of $850 with monthly payments of $276.70 monthly. I was told the car would be transferred from the Plano location to Denton after it was inspected. Around 12:59 pm, after my financing was chosen I was texted and told "Okay Cindy the walkaround came back all good! You will receive an email with the tracking info when the car ships out." I asked where I should send my proof of residence, income, and insurance. They sent me a link to upload my paperwork like Carvana. I was impressed with the efficiency at which the process was completed. At 6:18 pm I texted the number and informed the rep I would be sending the requested paperwork the next day. The texted reply was "Perfect! Once the car arrives I will have them reviewed and we can make an appointment for the home delivery." That afternoon and the next day I got my paperwork together and shopped for insurance. On 5/1/2021 at 8:45AM, I texted the same number to ask questions about insurance coverage. Then sent the documents in for review. The next morning 5/2/21: I received a text that my vehicle has arrived to the Denton location. That they were working on getting it ready for you and noticed you're anticipating a home delivery! They asked for bank statements showing the deposit and also sent a new link for additional income I had declared. The rep claimed once it was uploaded we can finish the approval process and then move forward to scheduling your delivery. The information they require was private but well documented in my financial statements but this was not good enough: A rep named Matt called me about my additional income and we agreed to take it off finance application because apparently I did not need it. Matt informed me that he had to run my credit again to find out if I was approved. Of course I was approved again and (good news) I would be paying $3.00 less a month. Then things took a weird turn. Matt informed me that I would need to bring my original paystub with perforated edges or print them out of the dealership. I thought this was an odd request for a home delivery so I asked about it. This is where the entire experience went horrifically wrong. Matt informs me that he was not aware this was a home delivery. He placed me on hold to ask some questions and then came back apologizing and stating that they could deliver the vehicle the next day. I informed him that I would prefer the delivery be made on 5/8/21 which is my only day off. Matt informed me that this might be possible but the earliest could be the following Tuesday (he seriously said that) but then he said he would have the concierge department call me that afternoon to speak with me. I shared with Matt that the whole idea of my using their BuyFromHome service was not making me feel secure or confident in the purchase of the vehicle. He told me that he would try to rectify this error of miscommunication and mishandling. Right as I'm getting ready to work Joseph from their concierge department calls me and tells me that the delivery car they used is broken and may not be fixed till Tuesday. I'm offered the limited option of waiting for the delivery or Curbside pickup. Neither of which were convenient for me at all and their delivery vehicle breaking down is not the problem of the customer. I mentioned this to Joseph and his response was it wasn't his problem either. He then informed me that he would have management call me the next day. I was starting to see a pattern. The next day I received a text from Denton Carmax at 7:49 AM that said, "Good morning, this is CarMax reaching out on the Sentra you had on hold. Are you available to talk or text?" I was not available at the time but around 9:52AM texted I was available. I received no phone, no text, no voicemail, no email, no smoke signals....zilch. I received a similar message around 2:15PM to which I immediately replied I was available for 30 minutes. There was no response during that 30 minutes. In fact, I had to send a message at around 2:49 pm that I had yet to here from anyone from CarMax today and that Joseph informed me that I would be hearing from management to so far no one has followed up and the car I'm purchasing. Then suddenly, my phone rang at around 3:03pm. I was so livid because I had been misled so far. Today my sale was cancel by Mgr. Nat Cruz who was unbelievably disrespectful. The sales process was great and we love the Jeep. BUT I have to say.... DO NOT buy a car here IF anything NEEDS REPAIR. This location has one service person and sadly they cannot keep up. We had a few items that required repair and after leaving the Jeep there for over 2 weeks the back window was still not repaired. Waited 3 weeks for the window, then a couple weeks to schedule the final fix. Multiple calls, left messages and almost 2 months after the purchase had to send the car to college without the repair complete. :( read more

I arrived at 1:30 as agreed upon only to discover there was no one available and she had my appt. scheduled for 2:00. I showed her the text showing they confirmed our 1:30 appt. but she did not care so I politely left. This location is nice for me because I live in Denton. I bought my truck from another CarMax location before this one opened. I had a mechanical issue with the truck recently, and the service department (quite understaffed due to its newness at that time) went above and beyond to help me get it back on the road. Renee was very helpful in explaining the entire process step by step. We were there for just under an hour and walked out with a check for the amount quoted online which, according to research we had done prior to requesting the appraisal, was very fair. Do not deal with these people, promised to deliver one day then took extra week because they lost title. Then when finally arrived I gave cash for down payment and then 5 hours after they sold me car they call and say they need additional down payment and now saying the employee Forgot to get the down payment and I need to pay them again for downpayment. Why would they give me all paperwork and car if I didn't pay? Now they say pay more money or they will take car. They are crooks. read more

I bought a used Hyundai Tuscon from carmax and had to return it a week later due to transmission problems. They called and let me know the problems were sever and told me I needed to pick a new car and they will ship it here at no cost. I also requested a new loaner vehicle because the one they gave me also has engine problems, speedometer issues, and water in the headlights. They assured me they would get me a new vehicle and someone would call me back to confirm. This was 9 days ago. I called and spoke to multiple managers and employees letting them know the issues I am having and they just blew me off like it wasn't a big deal. The loaner is also incredibly bad on gas and I let them know I am leaving for vacation next weekend and would not be able to afford to drive the car they gave me and yet I am still stuck in it 2 weeks after my car was dropped off. I call daily trying to resolve this issue and just keep getting told they're sorry and someone will call me back. extremely frustrating. read more
