I'll just cut to the chase. CarMax Irvine offered $3000 for my mom's car. We then went right next door to Bidlane Irvine and got $5,100. Also, if you get online estimates through the CarMax website, make sure you record it. I told the guy at CarMax that the online estimates ranged from $3000 to $6,700 based on condition (My mom's car was in great shape). The guy claimed that he didn't have any knowledge about getting estimates through the CarMax website. He wasn't a new employee because he made a comment that CarMax furloughed him during COVID, so he has been there for at least 2 years. Maybe a car buying experience might be better but skip CarMax and go to Bidlane if you need to sell your car. read more

I haven't purchased a car here but I have sold a few cars here and so have my family members. It is a good place to go if you just want to sell your car and don't want to deal with haggling, people lowballing you,or selling to a private party. Be prepared to wait!! I had already completed the offer process online so I came in to finish, and it ended up taking almost 2 hours for them to inspect my car, write up the paperwork, and complete everything. For how busy they are it is pretty efficient but make sure that when you come that you don't have any other obligations to tend to because most likely you will be waiting around for awhile. My husband calls this the DMV of car sales...lol. The people are definitely more friendly but it does kind of give off that vibe. read more

I noticed right away the brakes were squeaking I made a couple appointments but unfortunately missed them I made an appt. at the Irvine store and it was determined that I needed new brakes and rotors. Jose Chavez made me feel very comfortable and would keep me updated just like he said he would. He was very professional, courteous and friendly. After I dropped it off he later called me and told me my car would have to spend the night which I wasn't planning for but I would've made it happen. This was the best, by far, car purchasing experience I ever had. I will say I did my research before coming. I researched many dealers found the cars I was interested in. Only CarMax offered the opportunity to reserve the car for me until I could come in, they actually held it for 5 days. No other dealer would even confirm they had the exact model still available let alone hold it. Upon reaching CarMax I met with Wayne, the gentleman who connected with me once I made my reservation, and he took me directly to the car I reserved. Although I was completely pleased with that car I asked to see others that were similar in style and pricing he showed me and encouraged me to test all I wanted. I went with my original pick in the end. I also had no financing prearranged and got a better rate than expected. Wayne did it all except the final paperwork which Vince helped with very thoroughly. One word : NIGHTMARE I went to Carmax to purchase a car for my daughter after being burned twice by a private party. I was preapproved online and we chose a car to have it shipped to the Irvine location. When the car arrived we were not offered a test drive because we had driven one the week prior that was just like the one that was being shipped I guess. As we were driving off the lot I noticed that the car was having transmission issues so we turned right around and brought it back to Carmax. There we sat another two hours while they gave us a loaner car which they promised was safe for my daughter to drive , I told them she had her drivers test and they said that she could use it for that purpose. Meanwhile I was told that it was going to take up to a month to pick fix the transmission so then we had to choose a different car and have that one shipped to the Irvine location, when we were ready to pick up a car we were notified that the horn on the car did not work therefore we would not be picking up the car that day so once again my daughter did not get her car. Not once have I received an apology from the general manager of the store , I get the runaround from a bunch of different people the only people who seem to pay attention to me are the people in the service department. So far they have sold me a car with a bad transmission and a second car with a horn that doesn't work and lied to me telling me that the car that was given to me as a loaner would be OK for my daughter to drive for her DMV test. At this point I am almost ready to contact a lawyer because I feel like Carmax does not know what the hell they are doing And I feel like we have just been taken for a complete ride by this dealership . Obviously they do not test the cars before they sell them. Lord know what you are getting. I'm really hoping that they will fix the horn and that my daughter will get her car and we can be on our way and hopefully never have to deal with Carmax again. My wife and I took our Ram 3500 Turbo Diesel in to see what Carmax would give us for it. They came back and totally low balled us. We say thanks and go to leave. We get in the truck start it and go to put it in gear. Guess what? The gear shift lever is broken on the steering column! We go back in to make a claim and I'm not happy. They claimed that their employe says it was fine when he got out of the truck. Total bald face lie! So we sit in their lobby for 2 hours and nobody would bother to make eye contact with us. Finally their buyer comes out and says, "Maybe it broke when he shut the door. ". What??? You're kidding, right?? Do I look that stupid? Finally Carmax agrees to fix it no charge, but they don't have the part. It will take a week to 10 days to get the part. There's a Ram dealer 2 minutes from them. Send someone over to the parts department and get the parts! It is now day 14. Here's the true bummer: The truck is in my driveway stuck in park and I can't shift it into gear. My wife and I have spent over $85,000 on vehicles at Carmax. Never another dime. Hope it was worth it to them. read more

Absolutely RUINED a surprise for my son. This place is garbage. As others on here have mentioned, the "detailing" they do is unacceptable. Who in their right minds, with any experience at all, would try and buff a DIRTY car ???? Decontaminate the paint first with a clay bar, then buff....obviously wash it first. What can I say about the windows ? We surprised my son with this car which was supposed be free of the imperfections we saw 2 days prior to taking delivery. When we walked out I was pissed !!! Maintained my composure as I did not want to ruin my sons first car experience. When he sat in it, we were recording and windows were so bad that you couldn't even see him sitting in the car from all the streaking left on the glass. I wish I could upload the pics and videos here. We literally had to pull over and use napkins on windows with bottled water so we could see out of it. Not exaggerating, windows looked like they were wiped with armor all tire dressing instead of glass cleaner. The list goes on and on but not wasting more energy on this POS CARMAX stealership. The CarMax auto inspectors had very poor communications skills with respect to the process of examining and inspecting my car for sale or trade in options. Not to mention the appraisal offer sheet came to $1,200 for a 2005 IS 300 Lexus and was given an Instant Cash offer sheet from Honda of RSM of $1,944. A difference of $744. I bought a used car from this location and overall the experience was pretty good. I would go back again. The service was professional, and they did honor a warranty repair that appeared shortly after we purchased the car. Don't expect the sales people to know anything about the actual model of the car, they will just refer you to the manufacturer. The initial prices they set for cars are actually a bit high. You can't negotiate at all, so the real value comes when they drop the price after no one wants the car at the initial price, which is what we did. The paperwork was a bit screwed up, so we had to go back and contact them once, and got passed around to multiple people before resolution, which is to be expected of any "superstore". Regardless, we are happy with a car transaction that yielded a good car at a good price that was smoother than many dealers--and without the slick sales pitch and games that dealers engage in. read more

The sales manager at the Irvine office will lie right to your face and say your car doesn't have on it what the online offer says! Even though the car does! They look for specific words that your vin doesn't have on it words that do not exist on your model car and claim even though my car has what I put on the online offer but he can't sell it that way cause the vin does include the word Sport! Poor customer service. Waited 1.75 hrs to complete the purchase of a car to find out almost 3 months later they never submitted the registration paperwork for the license plates to the DMV. Called them about the issue in the morning and they promised to call back today but never did. I'm on hold now on the phone for 1.5 hrs + as I need my license plates, the temp registration is about to expire and still no response. They give you a live person for 5 min to transfer you and keep you on hold all this time. This is awful. Will never buy from CarMax in the future. I wanted to check out cars with no pressure to buy, so I stopped by CarMax. I was helped by Ron, who didn't pressure me and was pleasant and easy going. I decided to test drive a Subaru WRX STI 2015 in World Rally Blue (what a fantastic color). It was an exciting drive, to say the least. Ron only asked for a driver's license from me and then we were off to test drive the car. I looked around some more and found a Lexus GS350 that caught my fancy. This was a good drive as well, but not as thrilling as the Subaru. Again, there was no pressure. They even do free car appraisals, but those take time. I didn't have enough time to check that out, but I think some day I will be back. There are a lot of great cars on the lot! read more

Took down some personal information then went on to ask about the 2018 Lexus rx450 I brought in for appraisal. He then asked about my payoff(lease), I was aware I had to come out of pocket. He mentioned someone with a similar car had come in earlier and actually showed me the offer that was made to Vuu Luu. I did appreciate him showing me the offer to know the ball park they would be in. What ticked me off is the personal information that was shown to me like Vuu's full name, address and phone number. I would hate if a company publicly showed my personal address/contact info like that. As far as the offer goes, it did come in about $2000 lower than a mobile service in Placentia. I took about an hour an a half out of my evening after work for this appraisal. I could've been at home with my kids eating dinner instead of wasting my time. Vuu Luu if you're reading this. The place is okay. Salesman was okay. My gripe is I decided to have a vehicle shipped for inspection. Cost me $150. I was skeptical but did it anyway. They told me it was great. Told me no marks on the headliner. Told me was like new. Told me would be clean. This car only has 15k and is a 19. So the vehicle arrives I go to see it and it's dirty. Caked with mud and dirt underneath. Every door when opened had dirt. Car had a funky smell. Car had major play in the steering and felt rode hard. I think they just want to get you in there to try to make the sale and will say anything. Don't do that. If they don't have it there at your local spot don't bother. read more

On my visits what stands out from this CarMax location is the service, bigger inventory, and atmosphere. I may not shop here for used cars. But when it comes to their appraisal services it makes the experience easy and comfortable, plus it's obligation free. Walk-in appointments can take longer before you see a consultation. While waiting I would use the time to check out their inventory at the lot. Compared to other CarMax's, this branch seems to have a larger selection. Like many car dealerships I like how they organize the cars on the lot by category, row by row. It makes it easier to find the car you like. The staff here has been great. They don't pressure you in buying a car. I'm more into buying cars brand new. But their appraisals on your vehicle are higher than the mainstream dealerships, with that said you do have some advantage when it comes to trading in your car here or take your appraisal at other dealerships. If you have kids there is a spacious kid's play room with tables, toys and T.V. to keep them busy. Also, this Carmax is clean and spacious. If you're looking for a used car or have experienced shopping at Carmax's before I prefer this location in Irvine. read more

After paying 21000.00 for a 12 year old Honda crv which is 3000.00 over blue Book, I called the service dept because the Bluetooth menu was not coming up. They first try to tell me that I was probably not pairing it correctly. I told them again that the phone menu was not coming up and the phone buttons on the steering wheel did not work either. They told me that my phone was probably not compatible. I told them again about the menu and the buttons. I finally brought it in the car to the Irvine service dept. and they could not get it to work with their phones saying none of them were compatible. I went to a Carmax in Riverside and took an identical car for a test drive to test the phone connectivity and it worked perfectly. The menu came up, the buttons worked and the phone paired easily. The service personnel just refused to admit that there was something wrong with the radio. I am very disappointed with their service and am forced to purchase another radio.
