This experience was...heck IS an epic fail! I find it hilarious that I got the "review us" e-mail before I got my car. I literally bought the car, have no car and the 150 point inspection "task" has failed...let me explain...
I took possession of my "new" Hyundai Azera on a Saturday and in two days I was returning the car to the dealership for repairs that should have been completed long before the car was put up for sale.
Now, let me preface this with I've always wanted to own one of these cars so to find one in such "great" condition, at its' age, is almost unheard of...especially with under 40K miles on it. And this is why I chose to have the vehicle repaired as opposed to exercising my 5 day turn it in option. I shouldn't have to settle because a group of people cannot do their jobs.
I got the car home from my "local" South Sacramento CarMax dealership and parked it in my CLEAN driveway. About 3 hours later my wife suggested we go to Costco to make use of our new very large trunk! As I backed out of the driveway I noticed two wet stains. I simply chalked it up to A/C condensation considering it was well over 100 degrees. However, once we got home from Costco I noticed one of the wet stains still there. Did I mention it was 100 degrees outside? The condensation stain had evaporated almost immediately after we left.
The other stain...RED in color...glory hallelujah...I have TRANSMISSION fluid on my pristine driveway! Of course a quick call to CarMax revealed two things...one, the service dept. is closed on the weekends so, number two, had to take time off work to take it in on that Monday. Oh, by the way, on the way back, discovered not a single button on the steering column worked. Not the volume up/down, the Cruise Control nor the Hands Free Bluetooth phone stuff. I deserve the blame here for not testing even ONE of those buttons when test driving the vehicle. However, in my defense, I had my handicapped son with us and considering it was 100 degrees plus outside I wanted to see how it drove and then be on our way. The interior was sooooo pristine that I didn't even think that those buttons might not work.
We got to the Service Dept. and Barbara was FANTASTIC! She took what was a VERY stressful situation and at least made it bearable. I can't say the same about the rest of the service dept. though...it looked like they were far more interested in their cell phones than in helping, what had to be 10, customers in their waiting area. Considering they are closed on the weekends you would think they would be hopping! Nope....only Barbara. And I'm glad for it because if I had gotten any of the other people I would have blown a gasket! What is with that by the way? WHY are Service Departments CLOSED on the two days that everyone else has off from work? EXPLAIN that to me!!!!! Not unique to CarMax either....SO bad for business if you ask me!
Now, TWO days later I get a call from Barbara telling me that apparently a part, that was supposedly fixed prior to my purchasing the vehicle, was the WRONG part and, oh by the way, it was aftermarket! Apparently Hyundai is CLEAR that it must be a Hyundai part. Now, I do not bemoan CarMax for investigating a cheaper third party part but apparently, as Barbara stated, it was clear in the documentation that third party parts do not work. Oh, and something called a "Clock Spring" was the culprit behind my steering column issues.
In typical fashion and as luck would have it, insert Murphy's law here, one of these parts supposedly is on back order and it will take TWO WEEKS before the car is ready! I've investigated and both parts, as far as I can tell, are available online. The same day I was told they wouldn't have them for 2 weeks. Shame that CarMax only sources, clearly, from one vendor...they might utilize ALL of the resources available...just saying.
Let me take a step back...this car was originally at the Roseville, CA store and I had it transferred to the S. Sacramento location. All of these "repairs" and their 150 point inspection were done by Roseville. Now, if you were the GM of ANY CarMax location and you had cars being transferred from other locations, by a BUYER, there are a couple of things I would take as guaranteed. 1. That Buyer is probably 98% likely to BUY said vehicle and 2. I would make SURE that the 150 point inspection was re-done instead of taking another's "word" for it. Because....had they done that inspection I can guarantee they would have discovered the steering column issue and I HOPE they would have seen the Transmission fluid mess that was all over the under carriage. But that's just me.
The saga continues...I bought the car at the end of July and it's now August 12th...5 days away from completion... At least they gave me a loaner so all is not TOTALLY lost. More review to come.... read more
