If I could give 0 stars, I would. Horrible customer service in the Service Department. I've been calling and calling to make an appointment, left several messages for my service rep and got nothing back. Called the operator who was able to make an appointment with me for an oil change. Was told it would take 45 minutes, ended up being there for 1 1/2 hours. I asked some questions about replacing fan belts for my AC. They told me I needed some work and that we could set an appointment once they ordered the parts I needed. I gave them my contact info which they confirmed with me several times and repeatedly told me I'd be getting a text or email when the parts arrived so that we could set up a new appointment. A week later, nothing so I called. The same person who had told me I should wait for a text told me she was waiting for me to confirm that I wanted to order the parts and get the work. What? Okay, so I confirmed that I wanted the work done and they said they'd call. Another week goes by and nothing. I call and again can't get to my service rep and she doesn't return my voicemails. I talked to maybe an operator who offered to transfer me to my service rep, and I asked her not to and expressed my concern. She helped me and said she would go ahead and order the parts and call me by the end of the day. No call back. What??? I call again, leave a voicemail, no callback. Call again at the end of the week and the service rep tells me someone keeps deleting my order to "clean up the system." It's been three weeks and I can't even get an appointment. I bought my car from Carmax 8 years ago and have had work done exclusively with them that whole time. My experiences have always been positive until this point. Won't be going back, ever. So disappointing. Oh yeah, the two people I worked with were Barbara and Marnie. Terrible customer service. read more

Wow I'm a little taken back I purchased a brand new Murano with 7k miles and it has a radiator leak. It took 2 weeks to get it into service just for them to take it to Nissan..where's the first month Carmax will take care of you? I was informed my car will be in for some days and can come after work to pick up a loaner. Just worked a 13 hr shift to be waiting a hour for a loaner car that should have been ready upon arrival. I love my car but the customer service here is a complete joke they weren't lying when they said CarMax the way Car Buying Shouldn't" be!!!!! And still waiting for my loaner as I write this review. read more

CarMax in Elk Grove, Ca- BAD Service. I purchased my car in LA. The Best purchase ever. was in and out within less than 3 hours. Got a great deal. after 3 yrs of having my car I decided to try the Elk Grove CarMax instead of the dealer. First time I took it in for a simple brake repair in Oct 2014. Came back really good. Price service everything. Ok so Feb 2015 I need major repair to my car alternator went out. It took 2 weeks to get an alternator put in??? and then I got the run around. Find out after taking it home they damaged my car. My hood would not stay open/up. They failed to look at the list of other items I requested for repair. I will not be bringing my car back there for major repairs. Just very disappointed with the all around service!! NEVER AGAIN! read more

Service department sucks! Never answers phone calls and doesn't return calls in a timely manner. took 5 days for me to get a call back!

This place is awesome! I went as a first time buyer and was a little nervous when walking in to see what I would get approved for. Jacob, my salesperson, was great and assured me that everything would work out. I got prequalified online that day and went into the store the same day. The whole process took about an hour and a half and was so simple. I gave this place a 5 star rating because I never knew buying a car and getting a car loan could be this quick. Highly recommend this place to everyone! read more

#1 my ass. I bought their warranty policy and was told that if I ever have problems they would give me a car while they fixed mine. After almost dying on the freeway today I was told that I would have to keep driving my car for 11 days risking my life or have them pick it up at which point it will sit there until the 12. And the lady I spoke to was rude. The only reason I bought there policy was because they ensured it would help protect me and my car I bought less than 4 months ago. That's probably why they have you sign a contact that asks for no bad reviews. Looks like we are all breaking agreements today. read more

I am so angry with this place. I dropped $21,000 on a Ford Escape and I've had to take it back twice already because I keep finding marijuana all over the car. They aren't offering me anything for the inconvenience. If I get pulled over I GO TO JAIL for something I did not do. I love the car but this is just crazy. Not happy with the company at all. I'm scared every time I drive it. Now I've got to take time out to try and locate a K-9 unit to sniff my car because they can't be trusted to clean it. read more

First time here and had high expectations. Good variety of cars, but they were all in bad condition, scratches, dirty inside and out and many smelled of cigarette smoke. Higher than usual prices as well. Not impressed and will not be back read more

I was under the impression that the car would be without any noticeable defects. It had gone thru an super check out according to the paper I had received. Mine must be the exception. I really like this car too. It is obvious that all the items were not checked inside the car which causes concern about the stuff under the engine! I am very upset about this, I just wanted to get a car that I knew was super looked over. That is what CARMAX is all about. I also see the customer service at this location is less than desirable. A little uppity for the new kids on the bloc. I will not purchasing a vehicle from here again. read more

On july 11 I bought a car from them, before I paid for it everything was great; unfortunately the car only came with one key, Don't worry about it they told me we'll make you a second key. On luly 13th I spoke to Barbara; she filled out the work order for the second key she told me it would take 3 to 4 days "if a week goes by and you don't hear from us give us a call" a week went by, no 2nd key; I called Barbara she said "I placed the order; once I placed the order it's out of my hands" then she said the guy that makes the keys went on vacation. (REALLY! a multimillion dollar company one guy making keys) then she says; "you know what; let me take your information I'll make sure you get your key" 2 weeks go by I called service department; no answer, I left a message; when they called me back I explained the problem the woman I spoke to put me on hold to talk to Barbara then she asure me Barbara would call me back; she never did. It's now 8/9/16 I went to Carmax talked to service department about my 2nd key they ask Barbara; Barbara said let me pull up the picture I will order it today. WTF??? REALLY? She said they couldn't make the key that the guy was there today and she would order it. Carmax, is this anyway to treat your customers? (cash paying customers). Then no body apologized it's like it's no big deal to you guys. read more

This review is only related to the service department. I had a great purchasing experience! I needed routine service on my Ford Escape plus I had a few other issues to be looked at. I called four times for an appointment last week and sat in hold for a minimum of 15 minutes each time without anything other than "Carmax service can you hold". After having more than an hour into phone calls, I figured I would just go in and take my chances. BIG MISTAKE! I went in and even though 4 service advisers were sitting at their desks, I was referred to a receptionist Sabrina. None of them acknowledge my presence! While speaking with her I recognized her voice as the person who put me on hold and then watched her do the same thing to another customer. When I asked her if I could get a 10K mile appt she immediately referred me to Jiffy Lube! I didn't get the chance to tell her about the other issues with my car. I then told her I had other issues with my car and that I called but didn't receive any assistance. She told me that she didn't hear me say that....she never gave me a chance to say it!!!! Well we don't have any appointments available till Thursday. That doesn't work for me. I was so upset by her demeanor and lack of customer service that I asked to speak with her manager. Oh he can't get you an appointment. She then told me that she couldn't help me. So when you upset a customer and they ask for a manager, you refuse? I told her I would file a complaint and left. I called their national office and spoke with a very kind woman who genuinely seemed appalled by my experience. (Judy) She called the dealership and I spoke with a customer service manager(?) named Kay. Now I see where the problem begins. She did nothing to resolve my problem except to refer me to the Ford dealership or Jiffy Lube! Don't they want to service vehicles???? She said she would speak with Sabrina. She never apologized for her employees behavior nor did she try to even resolve the situation. She was NO HELP at all. She kept me on speakerphone the entire time so who knows what people were listening to our conversation nor if she was a manager at all The fact that they have done nothing to resolve this problem, apologize for their rude behavior, or empower their employees to make customers happy is the entire reason for this review! If they can't handle something simple like routine maintenance, god knows what they would do with something more difficult or complicated!!!! read more

Tonight 01/21/16 my wife came looking for a new vehicle (why? I'm still trying to figure that out) anyways we came to look at a Chevy & the (nice lady Tammy) that was "helping" us could not tell us NOTHING about the vehicle. How many airbags does it have? How many cylinders? What's the Horse power? You know things dealerships usually know & it's usually on the window. But not Tammy, all she kept saying was I don't know, I don't know, I don't know... My next question was going to be... Does this take gas or jet fuel? But I left it alone. I know they have a lot of different cars that come & go on this lot, but damn can you just read the sticker on the window to me if I'm going to pay 30k for this thing? I like Carmax, just not happy with their I don't know team. read more

It has been over 2 months and still No Registration for this vehicle !! We have been stopped 6 times for non current registration dating back to August - 2019 It wasn't until I inquired 30 days later after the purchase about current registration tags then they tell me that there's a recall only by chance that I went there to make a payment and I found this information out ... NO one at Carmax had attempted to notify me at all !! I go back today again and we are on payment number 2 now for this vehicle still with no current registration !! Each time I go to their business office they tell me it's out of their hands but it's in the hands of the DMV so if this issue isn't resolved within the next 10 days then this issue will become a legal issue for me and out of my hands and into the hands of an attorney for breach of contract by selling me a vehicle that is not registered nor has it been registered since August of 2019 ..And I keep getting excuses as to when it's going to be registered ... People stay away from this Carmax unless your vehicle registration is a current one, as they are INEPT !!! read more

I'm an internet manager with a dealership in the nearby Elk Grove automall. I wanted to get out of my lease, and I routinely field Carmax certificates from clients with appraisal values higher than dealerships offer. Since I have a little negative equity to buy out, I figured I'd drop in here to see if they could help me close the gap. My dealership (and myself in particular) pride ourselves on the client experience and making productive use of people's time, and never having been to Carmax, I figured I could expect SOMETHING similar on a newer establishment. Here's what I got: -I walk through the door at 10:15 am. There is a total of 4 clients in the waiting area, 3 of them together (so 2 parties waiting). There are 9 employees seated at desks. 2 of them have clients, 2 are on the phone, 5 are sitting at desks looking at screens, no clients seated and no phones in hand. A young associate was sitting at the reception desk. He asks what he can do for me, and I ask him for an appraisal. He informs me that "they are quite busy", (which made me chuckle a little), and I can expect to wait 20 minutes before somebody can help me. We look at each other while I smirk, and my glances dart between him, the nearly empty waiting area, and the slew of sales staff sitting behind him doing literally nothing. I blinked first and asked him why I would wait 20 minutes for that when (pointing to them) there was this group of people with no customers, specifically ones not even on the phone (which might have made it more palatable). His reply was insultingly priceless: "well it's a free service sir". If I were made of dictionaries, you couldn't have gotten a word out of me. Imagine walking into a restaurant with 30 tables. 2 of them have people eating, 28 are empty. You are looking at half a dozen servers playing on their phones. You are then told by the hostess that there will be a 20 minute wait because they're busy. Apparently a dealership that only sells used cars wants you to sit around because they're doing you a favor by giving you a "free appraisal service" so that they can still drastically underpay you for your car, and you should be happy to wait for the privilege. Nevermind that on their busiest days, ANY OTHER DEALERSHIP IN AMERICA will bend over backwards to get an appraisal started even if they're slammed, but Carmax, who is routinely sued and fined for not following safety or recall practices that auto dealerships are legally bound to, doesn't seem to think prospective clients walking through the door are worth assisting. This place is obviously special. Too special for you. Sorry Carmax, you have a bit to learn. I have a premium car I would have put in your inventory, but you'd rather ignore people in front of you so you can continue buying used rental cars at auction. Pretty obvious why they can't seem to stay out of regulatory crosshairs. And pretty obvious why they'll never get my business. read more

We came in the process went real smooth and thought everything was good. We noticed that the back door wasn't sitting flush against the car and they said that's no problem they'll fix it. Nothing big. We take it in and come to find out the car has had frame work done to it and shouldn't have been sold. Mind you we took it to another car max to get fixed and they said the elk Grove carnal should have never approved for it to be sold. Be careful of the cars you buy due to the fact they apparently push through cars that shouldn't be. read more

We sold our 2007 Infiniti G35 to Carmax back in October of 2014. Everything seemed to go smooth until I kept getting delinquent registration papers from the DMV. I mailed off the required paperwork to them since day one but somehow they never received it. I called Carmax to see if there's anything they could assist with but the receptionist was extremely rude. She told me she'd take care of it but I don't see how since she never bothered to get any info about my car or me. Last straw was getting yet another delinquent registration paper last Friday. Needles to say I will take my business elsewhere from now on read more

Fast, easy, professional staff and streamlined processing. Cody Getz was the perfect "salesperson". I was in and out in less than 2 hours.

Good luck trying to get a hold of anyone if you have any questions or need help with repairs after you leave. Once you drive off the lot, you fall between the cracks and are lost forever. Worst customer service car dealership ever. Ripped me off 2 Times in a row. Took my car to get checked out and they sent me home then called back the same day they had me make a new appointment. I was a little anxious to come in. I wanted to get my car appraised. I am thinking of buying a new car and need to know what mine is worth. This helps me decide to sell to the dealer or CarMax, for the best price. I was pleasantly surprised how nice and no-pressure salesman Keith was. Ryan appraised my car and he couldn't be any nicer. I highly recommend the South Sac CarMax. We looked at cars after the appraisal and I truly appreciated the cars being unlocked and the ability to look around and sit in the cars without anyone following us. You guys are doing it right! Salespeople were available anytime we needed them, without pressure. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. read more

I made an appointment and was seen right away when I arrived. My car was shipped from San Jose, which took 4 days to arrive but that was ok for me. I got a car with very low miles and manufacturer warranty still in tact. I am very happy with my Carmax purchase. Financing took about 1 1/2 hours due to short staff in the finance department otherwise, the process was great. I would absolutely buy another car from Carmax! read more

I will start out with the positive. :) The financing experience was excellent and seamless. Prior to getting to the finance point, I did have to wait 45 minutes while the salesperson tried to locate the car that was transferred from Roseville and I did not appreciate that. Prior to the 30 day expiration of the warranty there was an issue with the car and I took it in for service. WORST experience ever! Checking my car in for service was fairly quick but it took over an hour for the loaner vehicle to be brought around. I was there 90 minutes total just dropping my car off. My appointment was for the next day and when I followed up I was told my car wasn't even looked at! I usually take my car to the manufacturers dealership or Carmax in Roseville and will more than likely do so going forward! read more

I can't stand this Carmax! They have the absolute worst service in auto repair. I had to take my car in twice both times they My car two weeks and did not call with updates. I made an online appointment to look at a specific car but also wanted to look at trucks. Natalya helped with all the trucks, in and out of them, the features too, then we looked at the car. I loved it and wanted it, but also wanted to look around a bit. Although I didn't buy the car from them, the experience was great, no hassle, no haggling, and none of that dealership game of "hide the price" and try and make money off of you. I will return there because they provide a "no pressure" experience and they have very, very good prices. I visited 4 dealerships after Carmax and a salesperson bad mouthed the way the prices aren't negotiable, and he said they were too high, but he could not offer a better deal. He couldn't offer the same quality of car for the same price. I may have bought somewhere else, but CarMax earned my future business and if anyone asks me where to shop for a car, I'll tell them to look it up on line, make an appointment, get pre approval put into the CUDL system, and go to CarMax. read more

Awesome!! I came from Paul Blancos to CarMax. Called and got a quote over the phone, met my salesman and he showed me the cars I could afford. I test drove a few and then went in to discuss the details. Everything was straight forward and upfront - the computers don't even face the opposite direction. Everyone was friendly, well-informed and professional. No slick talking - no commission boosting. Just efficient business. The facility was VERY NICE which didn't hurt at all. I am very happy with my purchase and very happy with who I purchased through. I have tough credit history and they will work with you as much as any other car company will. They offered me a lower interest rate than Paul Blancos (and they are supposed to be the final stop for bad credit). If you're looking for a car - LOOK HERE FIRST. I bet it will be the only place you go after that. read more

I had an appointment for 11:00 to confirm the internet $9,900 appraisal of my Altima. We are having a terrible storm here in Sacramento with lots of accidents, trees down, etc. I arrived 15 minutes late for my appointment due to the storm. I was asked to fill out a form which included everything that I already provided online and I had the completed online form with me. OK so I filled out the handwritten form for them and was told it would be 45 minutes before anyone could look at my car. So I drove 30 minutes in the monsoon only to be told I had to wait. I am not desperate to sell my car, I am getting ready to buy a new car and wanted to see if Car Max offered more than the trade in amount. I just wanted a quick and stress free experience; Car Max offered neither. Their customer service lacks, especially since they had at least 10 sales people standing around chatting with each other doing nothing! That is the perception I had and I'm sure it is shared by others that go to this dealership. read more

Excellent experience selling our car here. I was expecting the usual low ball, insult your vehicle aggravating hassle. We were offered a fair price, given a week to think about it, and were able to complete the transaction with absolutely none of the usual shenanigans. I would go so far as to call the entire transaction a pleasant one. Would not hesitate to buy or sell a car here again; as a matter of fact, we were so impressed we're thinking of getting out from under the payments on our new car and buying a nice used car from them! Just purchase a white 2015 Nissan Altima last week. Sales rep was good. We dropped off the car yesterday, which was scheduled for leather seats installation. Today they called to say they have to do the install next week due to error scheduling. My wife mentioned to Lorna the exact same year and model loaner, drives much better. (I agree and so does my mom) Also our car shakes and wobbles back in forth on the HWY. We also noticed a small repaired dent on passenger rear side panel and found a cigarette butt in back seat. Her reply was not all cars drive the same and did u check the history of the car, and you can't return it? My wife replied yes insisted they look at the car. Lorna ssid we'll look at it. I'm getting nervous now!!! To be continued.... 8/14/2016 My issues have been followed up on and resolved. Spoke the manager and was pleased to know they took my situation and made it better. I had set an appointment with Chad, an internet sales men in the Stockton Blvd. location. He took about 15 minutes to simply verify the car over the phone in which I was interested in and then finally set a "-" no hassle appointment.. I walked into the show room and noticed each sales associate "seamed more like a used car sales man, rather than a Carmax no hassle consultant".. From there I waited patiently for the rep that "Chad" had set to "take care of me" because "Chad" told me it would be to difficult for me to find the car I had inquired about, because there were so many.. " It can be difficult", Chad mentioned!! Oh Gosh, I bet he was right! Ahh, I love being underminded ! On January 17, 2016, we went to CarMax to check out their inventory. I had already browsed their website and saw many vehicles that I was interested in. You can hold vehicles online and schedule appointments to test drive. We entered their sparkly reception area and we were immediately greeted by Nick. He offered to assist me and pointed me to the direction of the cars. He suggested that I look around the lot for 15 minutes or so and then he would come out and allow me to test drive any car that I was interested in. All of the cars on the lot are unlocked. While my kids sat in corvettes, l ventured towards the more practical vehicles... As promised, Nick came out 15 minutes later. He asked which vehicles I was interested in and pulled up all of my options on the computer. We drove around the lot in a golf cart and located the first vehicle that I was interested in. I have always wanted a Jeep. The Jeep Patriots were within my price range and were readily available. There were several colors to choose from and the mileage was low. I had been pre-approved for financing prior to coming to the car lot. I test drove the vehicle and liked it. My pre-approval price was not enough to cover the taxes and fees of the purchase. I did not want to pay said taxes and fees. I told Brian Nick that I would contact the finance company and request an increase of the loan amount. I contacted the finance company and received the increase. Nick was off the next day,(and unable to do my paperwork) but set me up with Brian. I arrived the next day after work for my appointment with Brian. He was very nice. Brian was no pressure, he offered financing through the dealership and a few other upsells which I politely declined. He accepted my position and we moved forward. He never pressured me or made me feel like I needed to reconsider. He went over all of the paperwork with me and then we waited for the finance guy "Alfred" to finalize his part. Brian went to have the car washed, cleaned and gassed up. Brian and I sat in the waiting area chit-chatting while waiting for the paperwork to be finished. About a half hour later Alfred came out with the final paperwork. He took his time and went over all of the paperwork with me. He was friendly and patient. He gave me copies of all the documents and Brian stated that the car was ready. I was in and out of the dealership in less than two hours! I have purchased several cars and have never not spent the entire day at the dealership. I could not believe how fast and stress free the process was. I love my car and am grateful that I was able to obtain it so easily. Thanks Nick, Brian and Alfred great customer service is very important to me. I felt like my business was important to CarMax. For a long time I have held out for as long as I can the idea of purchasing a new vehicle. You know, new car= car payments but it was time to retire my old car. I had searched for weeks. I couldn't find anything ideal. My first car shopping experience started at Niello Acura. There was so much pressure to purchase that I became very repulsive. Through the following weeks, I kept striking out. I decided I try CarMax. As I walked in, I didn't know what to expect. It was such a large place with a huge selection but their inventory didn't stop there. Their online inventory is extensive nationwide. I was greeted by Rodger then we proceeded to be seated in front of their computer to browse their inventory. Rodger was very attentive and had a lot of questions for me regarding my preferences . We shared laughs. It was a quite comfortable experience but unfortunately I didn't find a winner. A couple days goes by...I was excited when i finally found my car as their inventory changes daily. I texted Rodger and he was able to reserve the car until I came in to pay the non-refundable transfer fee to ship from their Nevada location. Even then, he questioned if I was sure about my decision. I really like his no- pressure, relaxed attitude. During the transport of the car, I received notifications of its journey.  When it finally arrived, we did the usual test-drive. The application for financing was such a  quick process. Signing the papers was probably the longest in comparison to everything else but it wasn't horribly dragging. Here I am 2 months later...I have never been so much happier and satisfied with my decision and my experience. I LOVE my 2014 Acura TL. Thank you so much, Rodger! read more
