The most recent purchase, VW Atlas.

I have bought and sold about 4 cars, give or take, with this CarMax location. Every interaction has been simple, straightforward, and resulted in getting exactly the car I wanted, at a fair and reasonable price. As of late, I have one salesperson I work with on everything, Rocky. I first started working with her several years ago and was so impressed with her laid back way and no pressure engagement when selling. CarMax does not negotiate on price, generally, however their pricing is very fair from the start. The last purchase I made was an SUV for my daughter-in-law that I had shipped from a California location. We had looked at a VERY similar car at a smaller "buy here, pay here" type of spot. Their price was several thousand more, requiring the whole "working a deal" aggravation to get it to a reasonable amount, and after reviewing the sales contract, I found about $2,500 in additional fees for things we did NOT request. Those are the types of issues you can confidently know you won't have to deal with working with Rocky at the Oracle Road location of CarMax... and based on past experience, with ANY CarMax location

Main car air filter one day after picking up car at Tucson Carmax.

The Carmax here in Tucson was an interesting experience for me. The standard efficacy of the car buying business thats known, is still present. I was a bit annoyed at the lowballing that they did with our negotiated trade in seeing how it was in excellent mechanical condition - if not better than... However when you come to Carmax do you expect a certain level take it or leave it. Buyers choice... After test driving a 2018 vehicle we were sold on it. Financing was done very quickly through our own bank and the car was quickly prepped for receiving. However I noticed something odd about the front end of the car having stainless steel screws installed in the wheel well by the tires, not standard with the OEM manufacturing processes. To me it was quite evident that the car had received front end damage. I inquired with our sales Tech to certify that the car did not register with front end damage. Our sales person who by the way was a very seasoned individual having his own car business in California for over 20 years reassured us the car had 'not' been registered for front end damage. Uh huh... Upon receiving our vehicle and driving home and over the next two days, we immediately recognized a fault in the crash warning system of the vehicle. We contacted Carmax promptly on Monday morning and notified them having just purchased it on Saturday that it indeed was failing at something based on the error codes we were seeing from the warnings on the dash. It turned out that even though Carmax had prepared the car, they clearly decided either not to do a thorough check over the car, nor decided to make the repair on the necessary components which turned out to be part of the radar system in the front grill. Two days later the car was returned to us and the $1700 bill was literally paid for immediately through our extended warranty. To me it would seem like someone should be held responsible in either the maintenance or marketing of this car before it was on the 'sale lot'. We learned barely two months later the car in fact did have massive damage on the front end as an auto body shop had to pull off the front facia and showed us the amount of bad workmanship (on a previous repair) in that whomever it was, did not use appropriate OEM hardware upon the repairs. Furthermore, we learned Carmax completely failed to do 'basic' car care on our purchase. I now doubt they even changed the oil... I've attached photos of the cabin air filter and intake air filter just to prove how bad Carmax really represented here...I mean, they made zero attempt to look or care for this car ultimately. I'm frankly astonished at their lackluster prep work here. They knowingly did NOT check for electrical failures, mechanical repairs and clearly did NOT even take the courtesy to replace common air filters. I'm ashamed this is how they act. I expected a slip up here or there, but this was a whole new level of neglect. Update as of 31 Dec, 2020. The car mysteriously dumped the FOB's memory on both modules and all four of the TPMS sensors are inoperative. There is a scheduled repair date in the next week, we'll keep you updated how their repairs on this turns out.

My initial experience with the sales process was pretty good. The salesman was responsive, etc. However, AFTER the sale, I learned that my tires were six years old. I bought a 2014 FJ Cruiser, and took it to the local Toyota dealership. Everything was great, except the mechanic told me it's actually unethical to commercially-sell any vehicle with tires that old and/or worn. I called Carmax about replacing my tires, and suddenly my salesman "couldn't do anything" about it. I had to replace all four tires at $1600, which Carmax should've replaced, by default, before they even offered the vehicle for sale. Worse, from a simple customer-service standpoint, since my vehicle had no owners manual, I was promised a $200 allowance to buy one online. I had to buy the manual, and the jacket, piecemeal on eBay, which was only $74, well within the promised limit. Carmax actually refused to pay for the $16 jacket, penny-pinching to the extreme, and I actually had to argue back and forth, over their pitiful cheapness, before they, finally, begrudingly ponied-up the $16. After spending $51,000+, with $27,000 down, I expected a helluva lot better service than that. Sure, their smiling faces are great, when they're waiting to get your money ... but the absolute lack of graciousness (and even ethics) becomes evident really fast when they owe you some money in return. In the end, my FJ Cruiser is great, but that's thanks to Toyota as the manufacturer and the low mileage. If I had it to do it over, in hindsight, I would've shopped from a Toyota dealership directly, as they have higher standards in their customer care.

The GM, Mr. Stewart, was very kind and professional, and the best salesman of all time has to be Ryan Moore. Ask for him if you go there -- incredibly smart, patient, and helpful throughout the entire process. However, if there's any talk about a manager and you hear the name Loui/Louis... run the other direction. A previous manager had already given us a lower number, but once Loui realized the earlier offer , he refused to honor it. Instead of working with us, he let his ego get in the way, walked out of the conversation, and because of that, we didn't buy the car that day. Ironically, we called the next day, explained the situation, and they fixed the price anyway. So Loui, if you're reading this... guess who got the price you said was impossible? Before moving to Arizona, I was under the impression car batteries would last for 3 to 5 years because that's how long they lasted when I was growing up. In Tucson, the heat shorten the battery life significantly and so the forever program means they replaced the battery every other year, and I schedule an appointment for a new one. On this particular occasion, I brought my car in to get serviced as there was a recall on the fuel pump for my car and I was able to schedule an appointment at the day of my convenience. In the past I could work in the Customer Service area as they had a desk so you could set up your laptop at work. This day they ordered me Lyft to take me home, since the job was to take 4-5 hours. I was sent updated photos by text on the status of my car and a multi point inspection summary. John and Corey have always been very nice and professional in the service department. My family and I have purchased three vehicles with Enterprise at the Speedway location in Tucson. In 2017, I purchased my first vehicle with Enterprise, and it was such a smooth and easy experience that when my wife was ready to purchase a vehicle in 2024, we chose to work with Enterprise again. The experience with purchasing my wife's car was mostly smooth, but we did have our first encounter with the manager of this location, Robby. I don't have enough characters in this review to give all the details, but long story short Robby displayed aggressive behavior in attempting to strong arm my wife into paying for something Enterprise agreed to pay for on the day of sale. After reflecting on my most recent experience with Robby, this seems to be a tactic he frequently uses. Despite the initial encounter with Robby, we were still satisfied enough with our experience and the cars we purchased to recommend friends and family to utilize Enterprise for their car purchasing needs. We were so satisfied that we decided to utilize Enterprise for a third time in 2026 to trade in my first vehicle and purchase a newer one. The sales representative we worked with was fairly new at his job, but he was an overall pleasant person to deal with. The representative made representations consistently via text and verbally about the amount that would need to be paid for the vehicle at close. Based on what was represented and agreed on, we decided to purchase the vehicle outright without financing as we had done with our last vehicle in 2024. After spending many hours in the Enterprise office getting the paperwork together, we confirmed with the representatives several times that everything was in order before finalizing the sale. The purchase was completed May 13. Sometime before Independence Day, I noticed that on June 29th I had missed calls from a number I was not familiar with. I listened to the voice message left by the number and discovered it was the sales representative from Enterprise vaguely referencing the need for me to complete financing on the vehicle I purchased a month and a half ago. This was strange to me as we had paid for the car in full. The following days I was also sent text messages and on the 3rd of July, while I was on vacation, Robby began calling me and my wife. My wife attempted to call Robby back on the 5th but was unable to reach anyone or leave a message. On the 6th my wife called Enterprise to figure out what was going on because it began to feel like some kind of scam was underway. Robby initially spoke with my wife and was extremely aggressive and disrespectful, speaking over her and insisting that we did not pay the full amount and actually owed them money. At one point my wife inquired why Enterprise was attempting to contact us over a sale which had been completed over a month and a half prior, and Robby falsely claimed that Enterprise had been attempting to contact us "for a long time." My wife corrected Robby that Enterprise had only contacted us within the last week, and Robby replied by stating "Oh I don't know I just found out about this recently." Which further fuels the suspicion that Robby is willing to obfuscate the facts to leverage the situation in his favor. His willingness to lie doesn't inspire confidence that he is representing the matter accurately. My wife attempted to communicate with Robby about the events prior, and he told us that his sales representative was new and made a mistake in how much he told us to pay. Robby began demanding we "make it right" and made claims of how "nothing in life is free" and we "have to pay what we owe." At this point my wife conferences me into the call and Robby grew increasingly frustrated with us, stating we needed "to make it right" implying we did something wrong during the sales process when clearly he was trying to shift blame for some mistake that was made on their end. Ultimately, we paid what was asked of us on the date of purchase, if there was a mistake on Enterprise's part, I'm unsure how I can "make it right", and I certainly don't appreciate being aggressively harassed on vacation or during my workday. I also don't appreciate Robby attempting to make it sound like I have done something morally wrong. I will never deal with Enterprise Sales in Tucson again as long as Robby is manager.

When i spoke with Rocky he said to go through the warranty. The warranty explained they do not cover the front end either being not aligned properly or not being aligned at all when it was suppose to be aligned when the rack and pinion was changed. I explained this to Kim(the office lady) after talking with the warranty company and she said she understood why they wouldnt cover something like this. A few times i was told someone would call me back about this, no one called. At the time i started calling all that i could notice to the eye/ear was that the steering wheel was crooked, the original clunking noise was back and the front wheels were pigeon toed(pointing inward) due to this it started to wear a balled section along the outer edge of the front tires. Because i am not a car mechanic, i looked over the 5 year maintenance plan i was given when purchasing the vehicle. Firestone complete auto care is a participant in this program. After seeing this i have brought my car to the local firestone complete auto care place here local to me. They have diagnosed what is going on with the front end of the car. Per Firestone complete auto cares inspection: the car was given back to me with the front end is so far out of alignment that it is twisting the other mechanical parts of the front suspension and steering. Due to this it has damaged the front tires, suspension, control arms and sway bar bushings. This is all explained in the documentation that they provided and i have attached below. To recap, i had originally brought the vehicle back due to a clunking noise coming from the front end. The inhouse mechanic said it was the top of the front suspension and mentioned the rack and pinion was bad as well. The 2nd time the vehicle was brought back was to replace the rack and pinion. Our appointment was for 930 or 10 a.m., it was explained we had to wait in town for the vehicle to be done, at 1 pm i stopped back in and asked the mechanic if he was done, he stated he hadnt even started on my vehicle yet. Per your mechanic he stated he needed 2 hours to complete the repair, and 1.5 hours to bring the vehicle to have it aligned and return with the vehicle. 1.5 hours after he started to work on my vehicle i was called and told it was done and i could come pick it up. I have reached out once a week to confirm if the alignment was done. Last week or the week before i was able to speak to and ask Rocky if the alignment was done, Rocky stated that the mechanic there stated yes the alignment was done. This vehicle is not safe to drive now at this time. I do a lot of driving for work, i have had to park this car while i have been waiting to here back. This is a direct result of the mechanic either not doing the alignment, or whom he brought it to did a terrible alignment job which in turn has damaged/ruined the main steering/driving components of the vehicle. I do not recommend this USED car dealer.
