I was told it "should be covered by insurance" and that I'd only pay the difference, so I agreed to move forward. At checkout, I paid $350 and was told I'd be reimbursed after insurance was billed. Later, I found out my insurance didn't cover it at all. My concern wasn't that insurance denied the claim, it was that I was led to believe my coverage had been verified. Had I known I would likely be responsible for the full cost, I would have waited until I was financially ready. I asked if they could offer a discount given the misinformation, but after more than two months of trying to reach the manager, I was told there was nothing they could do because I had received the service. What disappointed me most was the lack of accountability and willingness to address my concerns. I ended up canceling my follow-up appointment and won't be returning. I would recommend confirming that your insurance has actually been verified before agreeing to any treatment that could leave you paying out of pocket.

The practice is very clean and they have the latest equipment (for example, they were able to do a 3D xray). Unfortunately I had an extra tooth in my gums that also needed to be removed. I was put under general anesthesia and woke up to a successful surgery. My healing has gone as expected (I'm about 5 weeks out now). The doctor's team was available via text and got back to me promptly to address all my concerns and questions after surgery. I was also sent home with aftercare instructions and all the pain meds I needed. 1 week later I had an in person follow up and things looked good. My appointment time was at 9am on 10/3/2023, with Dr. Shabanian as my examiner. The office called me about 2 weeks ago for an updated visit since I have not been scheduled with their office in the past 5 years. My last visit with them was dated back in December, 2019. I asked the receptionist over the phone if they had a Endodontist on site and I was told yes there was a specialist. Therefore, I accepted the new appointment made on 10/3/2023 at 9am. I came into the office early, filled out paperwork, waited patiently in the lobby until I was called... Dr. Shebanian kept eyeing me up & down from my peripheral vision as I was sitting in the lobby, without me knowing he was my dentist. (It was only me & him in the lobby room at that time.) He greeted me in the most unwelcoming manner and then directed me towards the examination room. I sat in the chair, as he looked over my OLD charts that was from 5 yrs ago and asked me what's wrong. I proceeded to tell him that I know I need a lot of work done; I already had my bottom wisdom teeth pulled out from a previous dentist, now my mouth is in pain on the right side, and I just need a dentist office that's willing to HELP me fix my teeth. Since I went to Choice Dental on Hawthorne Blvd. Ste. D, during the 5 yrs since the last time I've been to Dr. Shabanian office. I went to choice dental as an alternative because I needed to remove my bottom wisdom teeth. But I was not happy with the long waiting time and not filing the correct X-rays to my Medical insurance to approve a root canal application. Dr. Shebanian's office is prejudice to customers having low-income medical coverage (medical) or a person of race/color. After I told him what happened with the other office, He began to get frustrated, being rude towards me, making unnecessary comments, and would not even let me speak. Before the exam even started, he was not trying to make the effort to even look or checking inside of my mouth. He kept telling me that "it doesn't matter what's going on in my life and don't not blame outside influences for what's wrong with my teeth." Clearly it was all about making money to him and did not want to give me the time of day. He then proceeded to escort me out towards the exit of the office until I got my mouth fixed by someone else, then he WOULD BE willing to help afterwards.... One of his comments that he said to me, "I don't know how you are still eating." Being disrespectful to the point where he didn't want to do the examination. Making assumptions about me that "I am a patient who only comes in when they are in pain." I was trying to make sure what services were covered by Medical and the cost of treatment if I was to move forward with them as my dental office. Dr. Shabanian kept speaking to me in a very condescending manner, making it seem like I did not know what he was talking about. My response was "ok" to every statement he made about me and his approach was negative. I kept replying "ok" because I did not want to escalate the situation and make matters worse. During the exam, he kept huffing and puffing, sighing as he was grabbing dental instruments like he did not want to work on my mouth. Once he finished cleaning a small area of my mouth, he sent me on my way with a root canal information card to another place and said if I don't show up for the appointment that I would have to schedule myself anyway, he would not help me anymore. I felt like I was being forced to do what he said just to get the help that I desperately need. Why would Dr. Shebanian office contact me after 5 years, just to degrade me & not properly treat me?? Therefore, I left his office very upset and felt disrespected on that day. Since then, I have removed myself as a patient and will not be returning back to that office again. And this complaint has been reported to the Dental board of California.
