Dr. Ramos was recommended by my husband's dental office. Her knowledge and bedside manners were impressive. My review is based on her support staff. My appointment was on Aug. 8th. After my consult, I was told by the front desk receptionist I would be emailed the treatment plan with cost. I waited several days then on Aug. 13th I called the office after not receiving an email. I was told someone would email the plan momentarily. I then received a call from a staff member requesting my dental insurance information. I was annoyed with the request because I provided my insurance card for photocopying the day of my consult. I gave the requested information then received the plan via email. I received the treatment plan with two figures; one of which was handwritten with no explanation as to which I am responsible for. I sent an email to get clarification and the following day I get a voicemail message that the handwritten figure is my responsibility. Stellar support staff is just as important as the practitioner in my opinion. It would have made a huge difference had I received an apology for the delay. This office may charge a premium for "a pampering touch"; however, I was not on the receiving end of attentive service from the support staff. I have decided to save myself the potential aggravation with this office and move forward with my treatment with another periodontist. read more

I had dental implants done at another facility. I came to Dr. Ramos for a second opinion as none of my teeth on the right side were matching. She indicated I need the implants corrected and a different type to be used because my gums too were damaged. I was very nervous and she immediately put me at ease with her knowledge and expertise. I have recommended her to several other people. She is trustworthy and gave me excellent advise. She even evaluated my gums which was also a very different diagnosis from my previous dentist. I will admit that Dr Ramos is a very kind and sweet woman, but I felt scammed at my consultation and almost lost a lot of money. Allow me to explain. I have deep pockets in my gum so my dentist referred me to Dr Ramos to get dental surgery. Basically the Doctor would have to peel back my gums and clean the deep pockets. I have something called juvenile periodontitis. I went in for a consultation and the bill came out to be $3481 per quadrant which meant if I did my whole mouth I would be spending $14000. Obviously I didn't have this kind of money so I went to get a second opinion where the doctor said that this price seemed a little high in his opinion. He also recommened me not to rush into surgery because basically it would take out a lot of my gum and my teeth would look pretty gnarly. SOMETHING DR RAMOS DID NOT TELL ME ABOUT. Instead the second opinion was to monitor my deep pockets and get deep cleanings once a year with normal cleanings every 3-4 months. If my pockets get deeper then consider surgery but definitely don't rush into it. Dr Ramos gave me a sense of urgency that I had to get surgery right away. I'm glad I got a second opinion!!! Anyways I cancelled my surgery. I uploaded a picture of my bill just so everyone can be informed because I feel like dental billing is so subjective and unclear. Summary: very nice woman and appointments can be quickly made but I felt scammed and misinformed. Also make sure you do not cancel your appointments because THERE IS A $400 CANCELLATION FEE if you don't cancel 48 hours in advance. UPDATE: So I decided to get a third opinion on my gums from dentex dental. I got the same diagnosis of juvenile periodontitis but decided to get surgery since my deep pockets weren't getting any better. The specialist I went to this time around charged me a total of $5000 for the surgery which I was ok with because it was for my entire mouth. I only have to go in once to get my entire mouth done instead of four separate times and the total time would be about 3-4 hours. The surgery is also minimal because it uses new laser technology to reattach your gum to the teeth. Dental surgery is never going to be cheap but I'm happy I found a cheaper and less minimally invasive alternative. read more

I needed an oral surgeon ASAP that was close to my job for a killer infected wisdom tooth. I found Dr. Ramos on yelp and couldn't have been more lucky! Everyone at Dr. Ramos' office is amazing. They took me in same day and were able to schedule my surgery two days later while other places wouldn't have been able to schedule me for surgery for weeks. I was a little nervous about getting my tooth extracted however the staff here was very attentive and made me feel comfortable. I cannot recommend Dr. Ramos enough. I just had gum grafts on five teeth yesterday and thus far, my recovery has been painless and easy without any painkillers aside from ibuprofen and extra strength Tylenol. During my consultation earlier this week, Dr. Ramos was very thorough in explaining which teeth needed grafts and why. Her staff is very knowledgeable, and when I called to ask several questions leading up to my appointment, they were patient and more than happy to help. I was anxious when I found out we would be doing conscious sedation for the procedure -- I have anxiety about oral surgery, so I would have preferred to be knocked out entirely. However, the procedure itself was entirely painless and I was very relaxed for the whole thing. Her staff had my medications and a milkshake ready for me as soon as the procedure was over. I had a lot of questions as soon as I woke up, and the assistant was happy to get me a pen and paper so that I could ask her without speaking and disturbing the gum grafts. Last night at around 10:30pm (about 10 hours after the procedure was over), I was concerned because I thought one of the periodontal grafts might have come loose. My friend called the emergency line for me and whoever answered (I believe it was Dr. Ramos) was very patient in explaining that it was probably just a blood clot and to not disturb it at all. I never thought a doctor would answer a patient's call at 10:30pm on a Friday night! All in all, I can say that Dr. Ramos is probably one of the best dental health professionals I've ever received treatment from, and I would highly recommend her to anyone who needs this procedure done. It may be on the pricier side compared to other periodontists, but the experience is well worth it!! read more

Okay, I'll start this by saying that I know I should have gone to a periodontist a long time ago, but I had heard so many horror stories that I kept putting it off. My dentist has been urging me to go for a couple of years, and I finally realized that I really needed to bit the bullet go. Last week, I went for my appointment with Dr. Ramos, and she was really terrific at this first meeting. She did a thorough exam, and then mapped out a plan that was conservative... in other words, try some basic things first (a deep cleaning) and see if they solved my problems. So that was good (not having me do drastic things first). But, then the day came when I had to really to get brave... for the deep cleaning appointment. The night before the appointment, I was really getting nervous, because I had heard stories of people being in excruciating pain for weeks (and one friend said months!). That night, to assure myself that I had chosen the right periodontist, I read all the reviews here on Yelp, and my courage started building. Still, day of, I was quite stressed. I am happy to tell all of you that the appointment went GREAT. Valerie did the deep cleaning, and she couldn't have been better. She explained clearly what was going to happen. When I told her that I have a neurological injury that can cause pain to spike, she reviewed about the options for pain relief during the deep cleaning. We made a choice together. And then she proceeded, with her talking me through the process... and I can honestly say, it was pain free. After the appointment, I was worried about that night and the next day... but, folks, just no pain. I'm still stunned; I was expecting tons of pain, and there was none. Phew. They say they provide extra "amenities" that are completely unnecessary, that might be why they jack up the price. I was referred to Dr. Ramos by my regular dentist when it was discovered that I had a fair amount of bone loss around one of my teeth and needed some bone grafting. Even before I went in, I was put completely at ease by the friendliness and professionalism that all of the staff displayed during my phone calls. My first visit was for an initial consultation, which went very smoothly. Dr. Ramos even managed to make that painless. She took the time to show me everything that was going on (I love when there are photos and screens right in front of me- no mysteries). She took the time to explain what was happening, what was needed, and what the plan of action should be. They prepared a written estimate with a long term plan, so I knew not only what to expect for treatment, but also financially. They even gave me all of my prescriptions ahead of time, so I could have them filled before my proceedure. I went in first thing in the morning, already relaxed due to one of the Rx's. The proceedure was done under "conscious sedation", so I wasn't completely out. To be honest, as soon as they ran the IV, I don't remember a thing until it was time to wake up. I love that! I brought some headphones and my favorite playlist, and didn't feel a thing. You can tell this office is run by women, they think of all of the creature comforts. They have massage pads on the chairs, soothing music, and comfy soft blankets for while you are out. Dr. Ramos even called me that evening to check on me to make sure I was feeling ok after my proceedure. I am pretty wimpy when it comes to medical proceedures, especially dental ones. If IV's are involved, that is always the worst for me. I had nothing to worry about, I was in excellent hands. If you need any periodontal proceedures done and live anywhere near the West Side or Southbay (I live in Huntington Beach)- go see Dr. Ramos. If I could give 10 Stars, I would! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Ramos for years now and have always been pleased with her work. Her office is warm and welcoming, with friendly staff that always greet you with a smile. I am a current college student and am home for winter break. I needed my top wisdom teeth to be surgically removed, as they were impacted, and had a short gap of time in my schedule to have this procedure completed. Dr. Ramos and her staff were very accommodating to my schedule. They were prompt in calling the day before the procedure to confirm with me and made sure that my medication was ready for pick-up at the pharmacy. The procedure was unbelievably fast, only about 45 minutes. I did not feel any pain and was woken gently, with comforting, positive remarks, and a Slim Fast shake. A staff member kindly wheel chaired me out of the office and wished me a quick recovery. I did not swell at all and only took pain medication on the first day. By the second day I was up and about, continuing with my normal, daily routine. Dr. Ramos made sure to call me at home, ask how I was doing, and answered any questions that I had. You cannot buy a Bentley for the same price you would buy a Chevy. And I wouldn't trust any ol hack when it comes to my health, teeth, and gums. If you want the best, you gotta spend the money for the best. She completed 3 different procedures for my teeth and gums over the past 1 1/2. It took this long to complete due to the complexities involved. I won't bore you with all the details. She doesn't have gimmicks, or make you spend money for smoke and mirrors. I am in the process of having an extraction and implant completed with Dr. Ramos. My experience so far has been amazing. Everyone that works there including the doctor are so calm and soothing and kind! The thing that I am most shocked by is how little pain I have experienced with both procedures. I didn't even take any of the pain meds prescribed for the implant, only took the anti inflammatories and literally had hardly any pain. Periodontia is an area where, unfortunately, I have a great deal of practical experience. I have seen four different periodontists over the past 20 years for various gum problems as well as implants. While all except one of these periodontists did a great job, I would rate Dr. Ramos and her team at the top of the list---by far. As some of the other reviewers have noted, this is not a "bargain basement" operation, but I have always believed that you generally get what you pay for. Furthermore, I recently had a problem during an implant procedure where I lost my "flipper" (temporary tooth). My dentist advised me that I would have to pay approximately $500 for a replacement. I did not really want to spend that kind of money---especially since my permanent crown would be ready in only a few weeks. One of Dr. Ramos' assistants fashioned a temporary tooth for me less than an hour after I called and only charged me a tiny fraction of the aforementioned replacement cost. This is only one example of what separates Dr. Ramos from the rest of the pack and that is her highly competent, congenial, and professional team of assistants. read more

My experience at Dr. Ramos office was AMAZING! I needed gum grafting on my bottom teeth. The day of my surgery it went better then I expected, I did not feel any pain or discomfort at all throughout the day.
