    Fried Calamari

Made reservations for 5:30pm, and the restaurant was already insanely packed! We waited about 20 minutes before being seated. Our waitress was incredibly kind and patient, explaining the dishes and even showing us pictures. We had 4 adults and 2 kids and still had leftovers. We ordered the fried calamari, white zuppa di mussels, Caesar salad, meatball pasta, and lasagna. Everything was delicious, though the meatball pasta was the least favorite. The lasagna was the clear standout--flavorful, filling, and something I'd happily reorder. And dipping the bread into the mussel broth was a 10/10! A busy, lively restaurant that I'd definitely recommend for groups.

MASSIVE food portions. This place is family style and suitable for like big parties. Our server was hilarious - he said the meatballs were small and they weren't at all. Everything was delicious and our pasta dish was from the special menu. Server took good care of us and the place was busy. We had a reservation and came a bit earlier than that but got seated on time. This place is right in Times Square, so expect long lines and long wait. Put a reservation in and this place is well known for their food.

What a fun restaurant and close to Times square. It was packed on a Friday night, glad we made a reservation for 13 and they were able to accommodate us. There were large parties and a party going on, a murder mystery dinner with people dressed in outfits from the 1920s. The ambiance is great, cool chandelier lighting and old photos and plenty of nostalgia and history. Family style Italian food, you get plenty to eat. The staff was nice, quick, attentive, happy to take a group photo, and sing happy birthday and bring out a treat. We tried some of their bread, caprese salad, and another salad, calamari, clams, pasta, meatballs, a chicken dish, and a few other items. It was fantastic. Great food, great taste, but I did not see any prices or the bill, it was probably expensive. Enjoy my photos.

I made a reservation which is definitely recommended as it's located in the heart of Times Sq and and it's a popular restaurant amongst tourist and theatre goers. There's plenty of seating for 1 or more with bar seating available in addition to large tables. Wait staff was attentive. Explained the menu hadn't changed in YEARS but there was some added features as well. The dishes are family style so bring your appetite and some friends!

Carmine's Time square highlight massive, shareable portions of southern Italian cuisine, a vibrant vintage atmosphere, and a highly central location, though visitors frequently cite long wait times and a chaotic, noisy environment. Meals are served family-style and are designed to be shared by groups of 4 or more. Popular enormous dishes include the Chicken Parmigiana, Rigatoni with Sausage & Broccoli, and the Zucchini Fries. The food is straightforward, heavily garlicked, and packed with butter and rich flavors. Expect lively, indulgent, and comforting plates reminiscent of a large Italian-American wedding feast. The restaurant has a bustling, cozy ambiance like old New York, but patrons note that it can get very loud during peak dinner hours. Service is generally rated as attentive and friendly, but wait times can stretch on--even for those with reservations.

Carmine's is a family-style Italian staple in the Times Square area. The dark wood and family photos on the walls are incredibly inviting, creating a wonderfully authentic ambiance. First off, the homemade bread is next-level. On my most recent visit, I tried the rigatoni with sausage and broccoli based on our waiter's recommendation, and it absolutely did not disappoint. The portions are massive, so you will definitely leave with leftovers for later. The cocktails are equally delicious, and they even add a little flare to the espresso martini by putting a logo right on the foam. Highly recommend!

This is a must when in NYC. I would encourage making a reservation to avoid the waitlist as well. The food was spectacular and family size servings for everything. Can't say enough good things about meal prep and the servers actually serve you food on your plate at the table. The lasagna was very good with just the right amount of sauce. The salad was epic and the dessert to finish off the night was by far one of the best choices. Staff is excellent and friendly. Great experience and can't wait to visit again.

Amazing time for sharing food with everyone you know. This place is packed, so you have to make a reservation, and the tables are packed together pretty tightly, but the art deco posters and the jazzy oldies add for a great old school Italian vibe. Dishes are all served family-style with huge portions for 2-4. We did ask for a bread basket, which had an array of plain white, cheesy, and marinara topped bread. The chicken parmesan was sliced really then and covered with a generous layer of mozzarella. We paired with broccoli, which was sauteed and super garlicy. Both were more than plenty for two people. We planned on having leftover parm, but it was too delicious. We saw another table with the Titanic dessert, and we were jealous but too stuffed. Maybe next time! Despite the crowd, service was great and the bathrooms were clean. The food came quickly and was all delicious. This is a great place the larger your party size so you can try a little bit of everything.

Carmine's - Time Square Very nice restaurant in the heart of Times Square, great for a large group or just a couples date. Food is generous and very well done. Calamari - share the calamari, very well done with great dipping sauce and a large generous amount. Zucchini is also a great shareable dish with a large amount to go around. Ceasar Salad, I could probably pass on salad for another dish, but for salad lovers, go for it. Porterhouse Steak this is a must order, best entree on the menu and when paired with other dishes is enough for 6 people to share. Don't pass this up Chicken Marsala an okay dish, but complimented our meal perfectly. Penne Vodka this entree was a winner, another large generous dish, well prepared and very good . Justin was our server and took care of our table of six very well

Bring your Appetite...Carmine's is a good Italian restaurant with big portions. Food is ordered and is meant to be shared (family style). The menu has everything with a lot of choices. If you are a family of four, 2 plates is more than enough. Caesar salad was also delicious (they also provided us with anchovies!!). All the food was delicious. The staff was attentive and was always checking on us. The location is also near Time's Square which is near all the broadway theaters. The restaurant gave that italian feel. Overall a great experience.

I would recommend finding somewhere else to get Italian in the city. This was pretty bland and essentially a fancy looking Olive Garden. Also if you're going with just one or two other people you will have to all agree on what to get because it's only family style portions, so not really a good place to try multiple items. Would. Do we eat before the show or after? It's the all important question for theatergoers. We decided, since our show was at 7pm with no intermission, we would order the food to be picked up after the show. We ordered the Veal Scaloppini with Lemon and Butter, and the Rigatoni Country Style. We went into a side door which was great so we didn't have to deal with the crowds. Carmine's is always crowded. Beware of the huge portions as it's family style. The meats aren't as big, but delicious. I love the ambiance of the dark woods and steeps up and down the little sections, so your party can feel like it's private. If you've never eaten here, go. And if you have eaten here before, go again.

Cuisine: 7 Service: 6 Decor: 8 Value: 8 Overall: 7 After all these years, Carmine's is still one of the best place to eat for a large group of out-of-towners in the heart of Time Square imho. Does it have the best red sauce Italian food in NYC? No. Does it still have the best prices for giant platters? Maybe. Is it still a beautiful rustic looking restaurant that gives your guests the best Godfather vibes? Yes! Remember! Come with a group is my best advice. For me, the Fried Calamari is a must order at this place, though you need at least six eaters to finish the whole thing. Chicken Parm is very solid too. Way too much pasta, but I did enjoy the Penne alla Vodka. Everything else was alright, just not sure they are great deals anymore, especially the Baled Clams. I don't come here often and that's for good reason. However, give the restaurant its due respect for the purpose it serves - a decently priced meal for a large group in the middle of Time Square possibly rushing to catch a Broadway show. In that regards, this old school joint really fills the role.

Ask the Community - Carmine's - Time Square

    Is reservation required?

    No - but w/o a reservation expect a LONG wait - easily 30 - 60 minutes+.

What is the approximate cost for a group of 6 for dinner?

Depends how many items you order but for our group of 7 it was $40 pp!

Are there bathrooms on first floor? I know there's bathrooms on 2nd level but I cannot walk up stairs at the moment

Yes they have bathrooms on the first floor

    Is parking available?

Street parking is a nightmare but there is a parking garage directly across the street I think it cost us around $45 for 4 hours

Is there any gluten free options?

Yes they have a whole gluten free menu. It is excellent!

    Is there a kid's menu?

Not sure but this is a family style resto. So portions are huge and to be shared with people on the table. For example the antipasto was for at least 6 people for one order. I don’t think it was meant for one person

    Are jeans acceptable?

    Yes. This is casual.

Are there any vegan options here?

Yes there are. The menu is online.

Does Carmines in Time Square area have a private room to accommodate a business dinner meeting of 8?

When I went there with a group we were taken to the top floor. It is not a private room, but they definitely can handle a group of 8 or more.

Ok if our group of 4 in regular tourist attire?

    Yes, not a problem

Can you dine at the bar?

We were there in early Dec and there were diners at the bar. Bartender was so nice and invited us to sit at the bar while waiting for our table. Might be a space issue with amount of food! Family style-our shared meal and salad would've fed at least…

Are gift certificates available by e-mail?

Called on 12/7. Gift certs are done in person only.

How is the outdoor seating? Is there a cover? Any heaters? Thank you!

Hi Melissa, I was recently at Carmine's late October 2021. They do offer outdoor seating with a cover although the sides are open. Unfortunately, while I was there I didn't see any heaters. With no heaters I would recommend seating inside if the…

Can I reserve ahead of time ? Like order my food ahead of time to avoid a long wait ? Basically what I'm saying is can I make a reservation there & just tell them what I want before hand because it's a date. Can I also pay for my food over the phone?

You can order take out. You can also make reservations to dine-in.

    Is dance tonight?

    No dance

What Should I Wear When Coming?

stretchy pants, I guess. Family sized portions of mass produced food that tastes bleh.

What is their policy on baby strollers?

Credit cards recently comprised Times Square location?

Nope, besides, Credit Company wont hold you responsible for fraudulent charges. Eat away!

Can you bring your own wine?

No, they have a full bar.

Is there a menu specifically for kids?

Yes. It's a famous family restaurant.

If you come with a group of 4 or more, including the birthday person, they eat for free, which is a pretty nice perk. This place lived up to every bit of the hype. We did the $125 option which includes lobster. If you have people in your group who are on the fence about spending the extra money, just remind them it's only about $35 more and that's basically the cost of one lobster anywhere else. Here you're getting unlimited lobster. The food literally just kept coming. At one point we were running out of room on the table. One thing I really appreciated was that the staff noticed and started putting multiple items on the same plates instead of bringing everything out separately. It sounds small but it actually helped a lot and showed they were paying attention. The drinks weren't super strong but they definitely weren't weak either. The happy hour menu is excellent, and the cocktail program is equally creative. On my most recent visit, I tried the Nam Gin Martini--unusual, beautifully balanced, and delicious. If you're dining solo, I recommend sitting at the bar, where the talented bartenders are happy to offer excellent mixology advice. There are several dishes I especially recommend. The Zabb Wings are crispy fried chicken wings tossed in a spicy, tangy dry rub of toasted rice powder, chili, lime, and mint. They're intensely flavorful and highly addictive. The Steamed Whole Fish is another standout: a whole branzino swimming in a vibrant, intensely aromatic broth of fresh chili, lime, mint, garlic, and culantro. The pork belly with chili and garlic is another dish worth ordering if you're looking for something rich, spicy, and deeply savory. Fish Cheeks was founded in 2016 by Thai immigrants--brothers Chef Ohm and Chat Suansilphong, along with Jenn Saesue and Pranwalai Kittirattanawiwat. The restaurant was born from their frustration with the homogenized "one-page" menus that dominated American Thai dining, which often centered on sweeter, standardized dishes such as Pad Thai and Massaman curry. Even the name reflects the restaurant's philosophy. The fish cheek is considered one of the most tender, flavorful, and prized parts of the fish in many Asian culinary traditions. When Fish Cheeks opened at 55 Bond Street, the team famously adopted a strict "no Pad Thai" policy, encouraging diners to explore regional Thai specialties and seafood dishes such as crab curries and whole steamed fish. It was a bold gamble that paid off, earning critical acclaim, including recognition from The New York Times. In 2022, Executive Chef Dustin Everett, formerly of Momofuku Ssam Bar and Pig & Khao, took over the kitchen, introducing seasonal dishes while preserving many of the restaurant's signature favorites. The experience extends beyond the food. Fish Cheeks plays contemporary Thai pop music, giving the restaurant a lively, distinctly modern atmosphere. It feels energetic without losing its connection to Thai culture. One important thing to know: this is not the restaurant for you if you're looking for Pad Thai. Fish Cheeks is about pushing beyond the familiar and discovering the bold, complex flavors of Thai regional cooking. The restaurant is popular, especially during peak dining hours, so reservations are highly recommended. Sitting at the bar for a cocktail and a few dishes or settling in for a full meal with friends, I always find Fish Cheeks to be one of my favorite places in NoHo for adventurous, sophisticated Thai food.

Ambiance: This place has a nice ambiance, definitely very "New York" -- dark (you can't see how dirty the floor is) and loud music (maybe too loud). The fries were overflowing. * Caeser Salad with Salmon: My wife got the salad with Salmon (they only have a few salad options) and she enjoyed it. * Prawn and Crab Risotto: I got this and I have to say it was VERY bland. It was carrying a large amount of roe, which I was actually happy about because I enjoy it and didn't want any of it to go to waste. However, the roe deep inside wasn't fully cooked during the initial steaming process. I had to go back and forth with Ash and the kitchen staff several times, but they remained patient, attentive, and committed to making sure everything was cooked properly. Ash, one of the managers, provided excellent customer service throughout the experience. While I was waiting, he kindly offered me a complimentary cup of New England clam chowder, which was absolutely delicious and very much appreciated since I was starving. Before leaving, I also ordered two more 2 lb. steamed lobsters to go. I explained my concern, and the staff made sure they were thoroughly cooked before packaging them. Both were perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious. I truly appreciate the team's dedication to customer satisfaction and their willingness to make things right. Their excellent service, combined with consistently great seafood, is why I've remained a loyal customer for years. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be back. Thank you!

Felt like it was lacking seasoning both salt and other flavors. Cashier was friendly and gave great suggestions to the people in front of me. Service felt a bit slow for a bowl of chowder and a Katsu Sandwich. Took nearly half an hour to get my food.
