Chile Relleno and Chicken Enchilada Combo Platter

Chile Relleno and Chicken Enchilada was just average, nothing special. The beans was very good but rice was a bit salty. Salsa was thumbs down . I give 3 since the service was excellent and attentive.

Underwhelming at best. The food was cold and not much flavored. Elder lady who "greeted" us was not To friendly. But Lady who attended us was nice. Has potential to be good I think

There certainly isn't a lack of Mexican foods in the area and as the competition increases the bar is set higher each time. Carnitas El Indio is definitely one that is authentic and above the bar. This unpretentious homestyle restaurant underwent a facelift since the last time I was here; a much needed renovation. Still the place is simple, choosing rather to concentrate on good food - and good food it is! The helpful server helped me navigate between the two options for Birria de Chivo - the plate or the bowl of soup. She suggested the plate which came with a small bowl of soup and a couple of tortillas on the side.I had chosen Carnitas El Indio hoping to score a plate of Mojarra Frita for lunch but when I saw Chivo, one of my favs, I knew I had to abandon my original plans. The Birria de Chivo was all that! Flavorful tender cubes of goat lounging in sauce like a sea otter in the ocean on a sunny Pacific day. Come here if you want good food without the glitz nor the incessant chatter of hipsters. Next time? Mojarra Frita or maybe Barbacoa Plate.

The music was good and sports were available if that's your thing Cons: It took 30 minutes to receive our appetizers and at that time I was told they could not fulfill a portion of my order, I withdrew my order of rice and bang bang sauce. After 30 more minutes most of our order came out with the exception of the garlic bread. I was told that it takes a significant amount of time to make and asked if i wanted something else instead. I felt an hour for two burritos was excessive so declined adding anything else. Moments later my bread appeared. It took a full hour and some change to receive our order which I thought was unreasonable, especially since at this point we were the only patrons. Overall: Food was alright, reasonably priced, and portions were aligned with the price. However, I would recommend ordering ahead or anticipate a long wait time. When we went we were one of two patrons but it seemed they had a fair stream of take out orders. I frequent the area but do not live nearby and nothing caught my attention enough to return.

Positives: - calamari was fried perfectly, batter was light and crunchy and seasoned nicely. - Fish and Chips: portion was HUGE could not finish it. Fish was fresh and flaky, batter was light, crispy and not oily. - Fries were crispy and nicely seasoned and not overly salted. - Coleslaw was tasty, crunchy, and not too creamy or soggy. I don't like it when coleslaw is a soupy mess. - Price was very reasonable for the quantity and quality of food we got. - Us "old folks" enjoyed the background music from the 80s. Good ambiance. Cons: - Default tip option on card scanner started at 20% for a place where you seat yourself, order at the counter, and pick up your own food when called. I manually entered 10%. - Clam chowder was good but seemed to lack something (Spice, pepper, acid?) and flavor was more creamy than I like. My wife really enjoyed it in the bread bowl and thought it was good... I barely got a taste because she went through it quickly.

It's the perfect place to stop before or after a movie, after grocery shopping at Trader Joe's or Whole Foods, or even after a workout at 24 Hour Fitness. My go-to order is the salmon with garlic butter, always delicious. Somewhat recently (past year or two) they changed their rice and I'm not a huge fan of the new noodley rice. I've since swapped to roasted corn.... but I miss the original rice, especially when the garlic butter would go onto it! I also love that they have a rewards program now because I've been racking up points pretty quickly, especially since my whole family loves this place and we usually place pretty big orders! Parking is plentiful. The plaza gets busy (especially the PCH-facing side) but thankfully there's always some spots on this side.

It has generally been a place I've enjoyed and recommended, which is why this stood out. There's always been some normal inconsistency in portion. Some days the fish is bigger, some days smaller. Same with the shrimp, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. That never bothered me. It's part of a busy seafood counter, and I've never felt the need to say anything. What I got today was different. The fish taco was on the small side and dry, but the shrimp taco was the issue. It was served fried, very dark, and overcooked to the point the shrimp was tough. When I opened it after a few bites, I realized I was mostly eating tortilla and toppings. There were only about three shrimp total, which is noticeably less than what I've consistently received here before. In prior visits, I've also been asked whether I want my tacos grilled or fried, including the shrimp, and I've consistently chosen the lighter, non-fried option. What I received today was not that. I approached the counter politely and simply said the taco wasn't good, pointing out the quality and portion issue. I wasn't trying to make a scene and I'm not someone who returns food, especially over something this small. I was more pointing it out so it didn't keep happening. I was told nothing could be refunded because I had taken a few bites, so I asked to speak with a manager. That's where this went sideways. Instead of listening, the manager immediately dismissed it. She repeatedly told me that what I described was "not possible," insisted they have never prepared shrimp any differently in her 27 years there, and said they only ever serve three shrimp. As someone who has ordered this exact item many times, I was essentially being told that my own experience did not happen. The conversation ended with me being asked to leave. I've worked in and managed restaurants. Mistakes and inconsistencies happen. This was a simple situation that could have been handled in seconds, either by replacing the taco or offering a refund. Instead, it was denied outright and escalated. This wasn't about a $5 taco. It was about how it was handled. Being told that your repeated experience is "not possible" and then being asked to leave is not an acceptable way to handle a reasonable concern.

From the hostess who greeted us to our server throughout the meal, everyone was friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed to care that we had a great experience. We started with the calamari, which was perfectly cooked and disappeared fast. Then came the Fish & Chips. The fish was crispy, golden brown, and cooked perfectly. What really surprised me was the portion size. These weren't little pieces of fish hiding under a pile of fries--they were massive pieces of cod. My wife and I couldn't stop laughing at how much fish they served. To top it all off, we shared the key lime pie, and it was outstanding. Smooth, creamy, and the perfect balance of sweet and tart.
