Anyway the sign is gone but the restaurant is still here. We were waited on by Iris or Isis - she was the nicest server ever. Had lots of regulars coming in as we were eating but she always stopped by to make sure we were good. He got the big breakfast with everything and I got the BLTA on a croissant. Everything excellent. I've always wanted to visit Eppie's as I remember seeing the big sign back in the day. This Eppies in West Sacramento is at a former Denny's location. The outside is a little old and the restaurant is a bit hidden away in the back, but the inside has been kept relatively clean. I also found the servers to be extremely friendly and welcoming. This is a diner in all the traditional senses. I came here for a good 'ol fashioned bacon, sausage, and egg breakfast and that's what I got. I got a great deal on it as I came before 10am and they had a special. Even with the deal, I found the menu prices to be very reasonable. The food is exactly what you would expect from a diner such as this. But what was a little surprising was that it wasn't super greasy. The bacon and sausage were well cooked and my over-medium eggs were just right. The flavors weren't upscale in any sense, but they do the job for what it is. If you're looking for a very traditional American diner experience that doesn't break the bank, you can't do much better than Eppies. read more

I stopped by Eppie's in West Sacramento for breakfast since I drive by all the time! The service was decent since my the server was on break. I had another server keep my coffee flowing, which I appreciated. I waited a while at the table to pay, but I ended up paying up front. I'm not sure if that was the proper way, but I couldn't wait forever. The food was solid and pretty much what you'd expect from a classic diner. I had the fresh spinach omelette with fruit and it was good breakfast. There appeared to be other reliable breakfast options that I would want to try from the menu. One of my favorite things is to find a great diner and eat delicious food. Sure, Michelin stars and servers in slacks and tablecloths are lovely. But I LOVE diners. And some of the best food and people are to be found there in my experience. Eppies is one of those places. I finally heeded the days long call for biscuits and gravy and decided to try Eppies today. And I'm SO happy I did because this place is a hidden gem! It's very clean, relaxed and has the nicest servers around. If I had more time I would have happily dined in, but my review today is for the to-go experience. I had the country scramble and onion rings-don't judge me I skipped breakfast! The scramble was so good and exactly what I wanted. The gravy was subtle but I appreciated the generous portion and sausages. The onion rings were crispy and perfectly breaded not too heavy. Everything was well packaged and arrived back at home ready to eat. I think if you're traveling on the 80/50 or a local resident you should absolutely give Eppies a try! They also seem very family friendly, with patient and kind servers who won't get upset at tiny picky eaters and their exhausted parents. In search of a nice restaurant in West Sac after my old favorite Club Pheasant closed. There are some very nice small cafes, but I wanted more of a restaurant feel. Came across Eppies Restaurant, which is really more of a diner, but there aren't many options nearby unless you cross the river and head into downtown Sac. The restaurant is a bit hard to find, being as it is tucked behind a Mexican restaurant towards the back of a parking lot. But there was plenty of parking on this weekday at about 12:30. We were seated almost immediately by a friendly server. Quite a few choices on the menu of the food you would find in a diner. They have some special selections just for seniors; but I had my eye on the regular menu, and I ordered a patty melt with a side salad. The salad was served first. It included fresh and crunchy iceberg lettuce and some veggies and a thin, but serviceable, blue cheese dressing. The patty melt was delicious. Meat was perfectly cooked, with grilled onions and melted cheese on grilled rye bread. I thought overall the food was good and the prices were reasonable. I've been going here for dinner with my wife and kids for a while now. The staff is always super nice and courteous. It's definitely a nice hidden gem of a diner in West Sacramento. Foods always amazing, I always clean my plate and a few bites off my wife's. Oh and if you are kind of a frugal person like me then you'll always be pleasantly suprised when you get the receipt. Oh I completely forgot to mention one of the best parts, the scenic nature view! If you go here definitely try and go with enough people to get a booth next to the windows overlooking the creek. What a find! This is good ole down home cooking. Smells like the house I grew up in. The flavours are just short of perfect. Not too much spice and certainly not bland. There's plenty of loving in all their selections. Like a great big hug from grandma with every dish. We ordered a carry out and sat by the water. Solid choice but one day we'd like to experience the dining room. Tim was the guy before me. When I say before me, I mean 6 feet away from me. He ordered the pancakes and these things were very incredibly fluffy and according to him, delicious! He eats them every weekend. Not a bad endorsement! I attempted the breakfast sampler and lost the challenge. Well worth it because not only was it filling, it tasted amazing. From around the picnic table I got a thumbs up on the Stir Fry Chicken Salad, the Rib-eye Steak Sandwich and Eppie's Tasty Tri-tip Philly. Michael had a bowl of Split Pea soup and claims he couldn't eat all the ham (there was that much). Next time I'll be visiting their Seniors menu for folks 60 yo and up. It's like a series of combo meals for a couple bucks less! What little of the waitstaff we met, they seem great and the atmosphere looks pretty comfy. What a wonderful surprise! We ordered a California Burger with onion rings. Both of us cleaned our plate which is so unusual especially for my husband. He even ate their homemade roll. I remembered the old location of Eppies in West Sacramento when driving to the Bay Area on i80 back in the early 2000s. Unfortunately, I never dined there until I learned Eppies was open in their current location. Had the country fried steak breakfast with scramble eggs and pancakes and all i can say is Wow, good stuff! My other dining companions had the Belgian Waffle combination and the Club Sandwich with french fries and everyone was happy with their dish. A return visit is definitely in order. I would like to try their Chili, burgers and the ribs and prime rib dinner specials on Thursday and Friday nights respectively. If all goes well, I'll bump up my rating to a 5 star. Ambiance is fine, casual and relaxing. I'd choose Eppies over Dennys without hesitation. read more

Thought we would give the last surviving Eppies a try. Have no idea how close it is to the original from back in the day, but this location has been here 30 years. Went on a Friday around 1:00pm. My wife had a garlic mushroom ribeye, I did the West Sac burger. THE PROS: Both meals felt like the toppings were fresh. Not canned mushrooms. The grilled zucchini, lettuce tomato and onion all quite flavorful and crisp. The steak and burger both had a good flavor. The hamburger bun was baked in-house and was great. Good sized portions. THE CONS: I didn't really have a "wow" moment. The place was a bit low-key, with service to match. Food was fine American diner fare, but nothing really jumped out at us. Things like my wife's cornbread, and my chili fries were just kinda "flat". BOTTOM LINE: Would I go again? Yes, and I'll try something a little more "signature" if that's a thing. I think I liked it better after we had left, and realized we were both full and satisfied! read more
