    Country scramble with hash browns
    Kathy K.

One of my favorite things is to find a great diner and eat delicious food. Sure, Michelin stars and servers in slacks and tablecloths are lovely. But I LOVE diners. And some of the best food and people are to be found there in my experience. Eppies is one of those places. I finally heeded the days long call for biscuits and gravy and decided to try Eppies today. And I'm SO happy I did because this place is a hidden gem! It's very clean, relaxed and has the nicest servers around. If I had more time I would have happily dined in, but my review today is for the to-go experience. I had the country scramble and onion rings-don't judge me I skipped breakfast! The scramble was so good and exactly what I wanted. The gravy was subtle but I appreciated the generous portion and sausages. The onion rings were crispy and perfectly breaded not too heavy. Everything was well packaged and arrived back at home ready to eat. I think if you're traveling on the 80/50 or a local resident you should absolutely give Eppies a try! They also seem very family friendly, with patient and kind servers who won't get upset at tiny picky eaters and their exhausted parents. Can't wait to go back and try their steak sandwich next!

So many great things to say! Service 5-5 Food 5-5 Huge establishment lots of room great for a small seating or a lot of people. And my husband's family has been coming for many years and they always talk about how great it is . This is my second time there and I must say the food is just so good. I'm so glad I tried the chicken fried steak. Owner is the sweetest!

Just seen your captains uniform and it takes a while to earn this status

The restaurant is very clean. The food is excellent. It's unbelievable the cooked there doesn't excellent job Denise and the other the waiters the restaurant is just a good restaurant. They do an excellent job and I'm very pleased with them. I think they're much better than any restaurant in West Sacramento so keep it up Eppes.

What a bright, fun, airy space in the Ice Blocks! This place was hopping early in the lunchtime hour. Seemed like a mix between eat-in, to-go and pick-up orders. Fast, friendly service and great food. What more can you ask for? I enjoyed their Baja Green Goddess salad with Impossible chorizo (even though I eat meat) and picked up a vegan banh mi and seasonal BLT for some friends. All were tasty and nicely packed to-go. I look forward to returning to try more things and their different locations.

Inside, also an eclectic mix of seating with vaulted ceilings, cool/rustic lighting -- very much of a cool warehouse feel. I like. The counter order process is a little messy. First, the menu boards...it's a lot of delicious varieties that's hard to remember the exact names to order once you step up to the cashier. But the staff is wonderful, happy service people...that help you out to correct and clarify. My favorites: ============ * Impossible Taco Salad [5.0 stars] -- my favorite salad. * Mama Chen's Chinese Chicken Salad [5.0 stars] -- omg, the chicken. * Avocado & Quinoa Superfood Ensalada w/Chicken [4.5 stars] * Saved Drake Farm's Salad w/chicken [4.5 stars] Seasonal favorites: ================ * Seasonal: Tuna on wheat (they are huge) [5.0 stars] * Seasonal "The 8 Hour" Smoked BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich [4.0 stars]: Pork was tender, but way too sweet and on grilled panini? Hardly. It was a 6" roll cut in half, and barely toasted or grilled. Plus, it doesn't come with chips, c'mon! That's a necessity in my book! Also: ==== * The Farm Club Sandwich [4.5 stars] * Habanero potato chips by Mama Zuma's...excellent. * Love the soda machine. You won't find Poopsi or Poke here, only Puck's - an all natural, no artificial colors or preservatives (you'll have to bring it from the outside if you want it!). Recommend: The Black Cherry. One peeve: ========== No salt shakers. If you ask, they have to go to the back and bring out a little paper cup worth. Almost making up for it are really nice pepper grinders brought to your table upon request. They're known for their burgers, but even without ordering one, everything we tried was delicious. The fried sweet pickles with house-made ranch were my absolute favorite--perfectly crispy and so flavorful. The mac and cheese was rich and homemade-tasting, and the house chips with salsa and beer cheese dip were a great addition. Our friends ordered the mac-and-cheese grilled cheese (yes, really!) and devoured it, and the Reuben was also a huge hit. Definitely an 11/10 experience. This place is truly a hidden gem in Sacramento and deserves way more recognition. I highly recommend the tri tip sandwich with their au jus. It is so good. You order at the counter, grab your own napkins, and condiments are set up in a corner for you to get yourself. Not necessarily a bad thing, but something to know before going in. The biggest surprise for us was the portion sizes. I ordered two pancakes with bacon, eggs, and a side of fruit. The fruit "side" consisted of one grape, one small slice of pineapple, one blueberry, and one slice of strawberry ,it honestly felt more like a garnish than an actual side. The eggs were very small, and the meal didn't come with toast. Even the orange juice was on the smaller side. For two breakfast plates, we paid $47, which felt pretty expensive considering the portions. I'm an average-sized adult and left still feeling hungry... The vibe inside felt a little all over the place, but I did appreciate that they sell and support local products like breads. Overall, I'm glad we tried it since it's talked about so highly, but based on our experience, we probably won't return.

The fish was perfectly coated with breadcrumbs that added to each bite into the soft, kind of melt on your mouth, fish. Not sure what sauce they used but it was just enough, not overpowering, and didn't make the experience messy. The slaw/veg was just enough. Only gripe is that I wish the fish filled up the bun as there were some bites without fish. Waffle fries - a healthy amount. Fresh out the fryer, pipping hot. The fries were actually pretty good, an above average standard French fry with salt. The burger however was phenomenal. There was an amazing crust on the outside reminiscent of a backyard bbq. There was ample bacon, lettuce, cheese and sauce to make it a balanced bite. The bun was high end brioche style, they really went all out on quality of ingredients. Vietnamese Drip Coffee 4/5* Not as strong as I'd like but considering that they cater to the downtown working demographic, it's still pretty good. You can even customize it to be vegetarian friendly by subbing condensed milk with condensed coconut milk. Bánh Mì with Lemongrass Tri-tip 4/5* The bánh mì overall was satisfying and the ingredients worked well together. The bread had a light crisp on the outside, was fluffy inside, and ratios of the ingredients were balanced.
