Inside, it is a pretty standard diner but not too crammed together. The food is good breakfast food, and they offer a few gluten-free options. We tried the coffee cake(gf), pancakes(gf), and avocado toast. The coffee cake was more like angel food cake with a crumble topping, but it was damn good. It also reheated pretty well. My friend said the toast was really filling and good. It was more a mashed avocado over sliced. The bacon is AMAZING, and part of the reason we went back. Lastly, the pancakes were not great. They tasted like there was a bit too much baking powder. If you're in Redlands, I say make reservations and get something with bacon in it or on the side. read more

It's always busy and for a reason! It is normal cafe food but the portions and prices are fair and I appreciate that! The menu has a huge selections of pancakes, egg dishes, skillets, potatoes, breakfast burritos, chilaquiles, and lunch items as well. They also take to go orders over the phone which we have done for lunch a few times. I personally love their breakfast burritos with gravy but you can also serve it wet with salsa and cheese on top. And yes, as mentioned in all reviews: the coffee cake is stellar! You can actually pre order an entire coffee cake or if you are too full, its easy to get a slice to go. The butter with the coffee cake served warm is just incredible! *chef kiss* The staff are super friendly and making sure to get waters out as soon as possible and keep your coffee filled. I do agree, its best to get in line on Yelp via the virtual wait list and then arrive. You can eat inside or outside and on a nice day, its really awesome to enjoy breakfast out front on their patio. Absolutely delectable! My boyfriend and I went here for brunch on a Saturday morning. The wait was around 45 minutes with people constantly coming in and out. The service was quick and prompt and they seated up within the 45 minute time frame. Our food came out nice and hot and they accommodated all of our meal requests to perfection. Our food arrived hot and promptly. This cafe is clean and has cute decorations. The service we received was very good, but...... There were still quite a few of us in the cafe at closing time. The staff cleaning up isn't a problem at all, but maybe the younger staff shouldn't gossip about customers, employees, and hot dates while working on the floor around customers. Visited Carolyn's Cafe twice. Once on Thursday, March 20, and the other time was Saturday, March 22. It is located in a quaint strip mall in Redlands. Parking was easy. The first visit was great. We sat outside, and our waitress was attentive and friendly. Our second visit; however, was not nearly as good. I brought my boyfriend after we raved about it all day after visiting. He loves chicken & waffles and was very excited to see them on the menu. We ordered coffee cakes (you can't go here without getting them), and they came out before our entrees, nice and warm. My mom then received her food, followed by my dad, and then my entree came out. My boyfriend was left waiting for his. Our waiter came out and let us know that they were changing out the griddle for the waffles, and that it should be a few minutes. We decided to wait to dig in so that we could all eat together. Our waiter came back once more, and said it'll be a few more minutes. My boyfriend then told us to start eating, as he picked from our plates. The waiter came back again, saying the same thing as before. At that point, my parents and I were nearly done with our food. When we asked the waiter what was taking so long, he then informed us that their waffle machine was broken since the day before, and that they were waiting for the repair person to come and fix it. Our waiter this visit was also extremely slow, and our table went unnoticed for most of our time dining. We had to flag the waiter down to get refills. We would've appreciated if they had been upfront about this issue when we had ordered chicken & waffles, rather than having our guest sit, watch us eat our food, and go home with a full box to go.
