What an amazing experience! Stopped in on the way home after a concert overnighter at Yaamava. It was a Tuesday at 11a and it was an HOUR wait!! We were shocked! But after seeing some of the food, we got patient real quick!! About 35 minutes later, we were seated. The place has a cute, diner feel. The servers were nice and informative because there is so much to choose from on the menu. The four of us chose different items and were all pleased. Everything was tasty with huge portions! But that coffee cake....life changing! Would never plan on getting coffee cake but so glad we did! We thought at first glance it came with ice cream but no....it's a scoop of whipped, salty, creamy butter melting down a moist, cinnamon crunchy, coffee buttery cake that will just bring joy to your life. I remember when this was a little hole in the wall place across from the freeway. Word got out and now everybody knows about their coffee cake. It's out of this world. We might live an hour and a half away depending on traffic, but we would still travel for this coffee cake. In fact I would crawl through mud for this coffee cake. The people there are amazing. This place is the place to go for breakfast if you're in the immediate area of Redlands. I have been going here for years, since they opened at the little shopping area off Lugonia next to the DMV. The food has never changed. Always been delicious. The service is top notch. Very rarely will you ever have to hail someone down. They keep a full staff and everyone helps each other out. I usually get the corned beef hash as my go-to. I ordered yesterday (10/27) and I will say there was more hash than corned beef. A bit sad about that. Also who ever was cooking back there loves their butter because my potatoes and my sister's English muffin was doused in butter that we didn't eat much of either. The portions are huge. Carolyn's is our go to breakfast spot. The customer service is great. Although we have to wait a while to get in. It is well worth the wait. They have many choices of Eggs Benedict , and Omelettes. When I think about a breakfast place, I think of Carolyn's. I take them over any IHOP/Dennys any day. It's so nice to see how far they've come. I remember when they use to be in a smaller location. I love that they expanded and still kept it here in Redlands. This is the place to be and is always busy. What I love is that they offer the Yelp Waitlist. That helps me tremendously as I have waited almost an hour for a table before during the early morning. The staff are so friendly and attentive. I love everyone I come in contact with here. But what keeps me coming back--coffee cake. It's simply the best. Nice cinnamony flavor, beautiful layers, moist, warm and extra delicious with a scoop of velvety butter that just melts beautifully as it's being handed to you. If you're lucky, you'll get a corner piece and that just makes my day! I have tried different items from the menu but I notice myself going back mainly for the chicken fried steak and chilaquiles. Cute but busy breakfast nook! Reserve a table online prior to coming because this establishment is frequented by both tourists and locals. The coffee cake is just as good as everyone says but their chicken fried steak breakfast and coffee are phenomenal. Went to Carolyn's Cafe for breakfast and ordered a cup of coffee and the biscuits and gravy w/two eggs & potatoes, while my wife ordered the bacon & eggs. The service here is pretty good and the place is kept clean, which I like. The ambiance/atmosphere leaves something to desired it, it doesn't feel as homey and welcoming as some other breakfast cafes. When the food arrived my wife's plate was colder than preferred but it tasted fine. My order was decent but could have been better. The price was about average compared to other breakfast spots. Overall, I would like to come again and try the French toast and their famous coffee cake, but for now I give 'em a 3.1/5 read more

We came here on a Saturday morning before the rush and were seated immediately with no wait. The place was moderately busy just after opening. The service was excellent and the food was pretty good with special mention of the coffee cake being amazing. It has a nice old school diner feel to it and charming in its own way. I'm giving 3 stars because the staff is so good. This was our first visit...maybe the last. I am surprised at the business they do, as this was a Tuesday at 11:30am. There was maybe a 20-30-minute wait. The chef does not know how to cook eggs! My husbands over medium eggs were over hard. My eggs benedict was over hard. How can you screw up poached eggs? And the iced tea tasted old. I hate complaining, but when you're paying the sky-high prices we do in California, I expect the food to be good. Kudos to the Waitress and Manager.
