I don't usually write negative reviews, but I feel like people should know my experience with Carter Services in Torrance. First, I want to say the service techs, were excellent. They were friendly, professional, and clearly knew what they were doing. This review is NOT about them, they were honestly the best part of the whole experience. When I called to make the appointment, I was told it would be $159 to diagnose the dryer issue, and if I moved forward with repairs they'd apply $50 toward the work. I also mentioned my stove was having issues and was told it would be an extra $60 if I wanted them to look at it. I didn't commit to that at the time, just the dryer. The techs arrived, listened to the dryer, opened it up to confirm the issue, and gave me a repair quote that was basically the same price as buying a new dryer. So I declined the repair, which I think is a pretty normal decision. While they were there, I asked if they had time to look at the range. I mentioned to the techs that they quoted me over the phone an additional $60 to diagnose. They checked it out, explained what parts would be needed, and again the repair cost was close to the price of a new range, so I declined that repair too. Here's where the problem starts. When they totaled the bill, I was charged the $159 diagnostic fee for the dryer (which I expected), but then I was hit with an additional $149 labeled "Appliance Labor for Service & Repair," which they said covers troubleshooting and adjustments. On top of that, they charged ANOTHER $149 again for the range. So essentially, I paid close to $500 for them to look at my appliances, with zero repairs done. Huh? At no point on the phone or in person did anyone clearly disclose that I would be charged separate labor fees just to reassemble what they took apart. They had multiple opportunities to explain this before taking any action and didn't. That is very deceptive. I've used a handful of other appliance repair companies over the years, and not one nor anyone else I know, has ever been charged extra fees just for diagnosing or for putting an appliance back together after inspection. That's what made this stand out even more. I called the office and spoke with Katrina, but that didn't lead to any resolution. I'll be filing complaints with the CSLB, California Department of Consumer Affairs, and the BBB because this kind of billing practice isn't okay. Transparency matters, especially when people are already dealing with appliance issues and unexpected costs. Again, the techs themselves were great. But the pricing and lack of disclosure from the company is why I'm leaving this review. read more

Charged me the "member rate" of $200 for a 5-minute fix on a broken toilet chain. We were quoted thousands to put in a simple under sink RO system. Would definitely look elsewhere. read more

I had to have my washer and dryer serviced today. Mario, the specialist technician did a wonderful job cleaning the dryer vent and the inside of the dryer. I was shocked to see the amount of dryer lint he was able to vacuum out. He explained each step he took and provided us with suggestions on how to prevent such an accumulation of lint. The washer was having issues with a blocked drain and soap residue, which he promptly fixed. He offered the suggestion of using cleaning vinegar, (available a Home Depot) in the machine once a month or so to prevent soap buildup. I highly recommend Mario as he offered valuable information and was professional and friendly. We joined the Carter's quarterly service plan which saves you a trip charge, 10% off the bill and priority scheduling. Overall a great value. read more

Great technicians! Horrible customer service lately. This 20+ yr. customer will be looking for another service co. My recent service appointment had 4 negative strikes: 1) No call the night before or morning of the service date providing this customer an approx. time of technician arrival. 2) Nine days passed without any contact from Carters about the status of my parts order. I learned the parts were sitting in Carters warehouse. I had to follow-up with Carters at every step to get any help/info. Each call was answered with abrupt and seemingly impatient customer service reps. One rep was literally sassy (I'm being nice using 'sassy'). 3) The sassy rep told me she was very busy answering calls and didn't have time to call me alerting me my parts order had arrived. 4) During this call I was told the parts ordered were for a stovetop repair. At the time of my initial service call, I signed off on the contract and paid in full for dishwasher parts - not stovetop parts! Hearing this information put me over my limit. There was not a hint of concern for the mistake or offer of resolution except for a grudgingly murmured comment about having to go to the warehouse to see if my order was mislabeled. I was then put on hold for a considerable length of time while the rep checked the issue. I had to wait 8 more days after that call for the next available appointment to install the parts (the parts that were sitting in the warehouse!) Adding to my negative review was a call I made to Carters that was intercepted by an AI rep - A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME! AI could not help, not even an option to redirect my call. When Scott, the original owner, was in charge, Carters was was the premier local service co. with fantastic technicians and helpful, friendly, professional customer service. Sadly, Scott has retired and clearly, Carters service has declined. While the Technicians are still top-notch, the numerous mistakes/issues/rudeness in dealing with Carters customer service is infuriating and depicts a serious lack of customer care and professionalism. read more

I've had Carter Services repair our appliances for many years without an issue. But today was different. James came to repair our dishwasher; it's too soon to tell if his work is as poor as his level of professionalism. He charged us $450 and left my kitchen a mess. The rug under the sink was dirty, and the floor had dirt and white chalky bits stuck to the floor all over. Sealant had been pulled up from the floor tiles. Did he wear cleats and walk through a field of mud before coming over? Usually technicians we've used for any service--heaters, water heaters, appliances, whatever, put tarps or thick towels down to protect the floor, and often wear booties over their shoes. I did not relish coming home and having to clean up after him. Hopefully at least the dishwasher will work better but I have my doubts. read more

I needed service for both my clothes washer and dryer. I remember seeing Carter Services' vehicles in my tract, so I decided to give them a try. Calling and getting a hold of a live person to set an appointment was easy. They followed up on the day of to confirm the time frame in which the technician would arrive. The technician arrived; he was clean and professional in appearance. He was knowledgeable; and he serviced my appliances quickly and efficiently. I really don't ask for much; I just want to work with an organization that can provide the basics consistently. (We can see if they go above and beyond, later.) The service rep stated that he thought they would have a difficult time finding a replacement thermocouple because of the age of my water heater and quoted me $3,800 to replace the entire unit. The next day Carters followed up saying that the part was no longer available. My husband and I found the part online, had it delivered and we installed it ourselves. The service technician, Sergio, was extremely knowledgeable about Sub Zero refrigerators and was able to diagnose the problem quickly. Made an appointment with Carter Services yesterday to repair my microwave. An AI assistant assured me they repaired Lg microwaves, gave me a 2:00-6:00 pm window and told me that the tech would call or text before he came. I kept calling to make sure the tech was coming, and I was assured he was. HE NEVER CAME. I waited for 4 hours. Apparently, no one bothered to tell the AI assistant that THE BUSINESS WAS CLOSED YESTERDAY AND THAT THERE WERE NO APPOINTMENTS!!!! Never again. read more

I have used Carter Services for many, many years and always been extremely happy with their service and technicians. This time, I'm not so happy. Corey Lyles was sent to solve two problems. The lighted part on my microwave has digits that are not working. He asked if he could use my dish towel to set the microwave on when he set it on the counter, which was fine. However, when he was done and put the microwave back in the wall, my dish towel was on the floor. He had to have seen it, it was right there. He said the panel was not repairable or replaceable because parts were no longer available. The second problem was with my washing machine. It was making a terrible screeching noise. I went in to check to see how he was doing and he had my dryer apart. He did not ask nor did he have permission to take my dryer apart. He said he was checking for lint buildup. When he was done, he left lint on top of my dryer and debris on the floor from pulling the dryer out. I would think he would have cleaned up after himself. Now, I need someone to come back and put my dryer back together the way it should be. The top of my dryer is not aligned with the sides, which was not a problem before. There is also a chip in the porcelain where the top and side meet. James Mora has serviced our needs in the past and I've never been disappointed. read more

I have been using Carter services for about 18 years. They have definitely improved their service over the years and have broadened the scope of their service. My tech today, for fixing the heat on my LG dryer, came with knowledge and familiarity with the machine and had already trouble shooter before arriving. It turned out he had correctly identified the issue, but not only did he do the repair, he cleaned the interior, after he'd shown me how lint etc had built up, potentially leading to fires. He also checked my vent to make sure there was no obstruction on the exterior of the house. Really satisfied with the service. read more

Depends on what is meant by our experience. When I called to ask if they serviced induction cook top stoves the personal said yes. She explained that their service charge was reduced by &50.00 if I accepted the service person's quote. I understood and was satisfied with the arrangement. However, when Winston said he could not fix the stove because he was unable to get the out dated part. I was still charged the total service fee without the $50 reduction. I paid the $159 total fee but felt they should have honored a reduced service fee since we DID accept his professional opinion and his work had he done it Merna (telephone secretary?) said she would ask for the supervisor to get in touch with us. We moved in a townhouse with toilets that were continually clogged, tubs and basins that either were slow to drain or didn't drain at all. I finally called Carter Services. I was able to get an appointment to fix everything in less than a week! Keenan and Kevin came to save the day! They were very respectful, they even put booties on their shoes without me asking them to do so. The worked diligently and thoroughly to clear 4 toilets, 3 showers, and 6 basin drains.
