Very good service from Ernie Avila, he was very accommodating about wearing booties in my no-shoe household, investigated and identified the problem with my heater quickly, followed up and got the part I needed the very next day, and prioritized fixing my unit in his first available window. Floor heater thermostat repair. The first fellow said, after inspecting unit, the problem was thermocouple, not thermostat. he had to come back in two days with part.he came back and replaced the part, but then said it was the main valve. The company sent out different tech the a different day with the other new part. After two hours, 2 other techs show up. "They need to check firebox" for cracks". They found cracks and said they could not fix it and I was left with no heat and had paid $768 in advance. The first tech should have seen the firebox issue when he inspected the unit which would have avoided the trial and error process of an attempt to repair the unit. All this happened over a week, many delays, no shows and calls. oh, and I was not allowed to speak with one of the owners (Justin and Tim) Ultimately, there was another fellow, not owner, who tried to apologize. I asked for a return of my money, which I expect to see in a few days. He was relieved read more

After conducting a thorough assessment of our refrigerator, he diagnosed the problems, ordered the parts, and fixed it as soon as the parts arrived. He was careful of our floors, and considerate of our time. Phone support / office staff answered our call quickly and arranged service quickly as well. We'd been working with Transform Co, who bought Sears & Kmart home services, for 3 1/2 weeks...they were rude, late, messy, and did not find for fix the problem. Called Carter's to fix the microwave in my microwace/oven combo unit. Why? Because they were the ONLY company that works on microwaves in the area that I could find. What a mistake. I had made the same mistake years ago and figured maybe they had gotten better, but NOT. Besides the $150 coming out charge, the tech put a glass of water in the unit and when it did not heat (as I told him it would not) he said that he would pull it out and diagnose it for $500 and then when he came back with the part it would be another $500 to install it and that did not include the parts. He left without even telling me what he thought was wrong with it (I already knew it was the Magnetron) So REALLY! I've heard it time and time before from neighbors that they are unreasonable and not that good, but what choice did I have. So, lesson learned agian. Don't call Carter's. read more

I have used them in the past with no problems. I will no longer use them. Just trying to make an appointment was a painful experience.

The repair person came over one hour later than expected, spent a short time here and said the part(s) were no longer available. The service charge was $148. I called a competitor who came within 2 hours, spent some time running different settings and found that the temperature fluctuated enough so that after the oven got up to temperature setting, it might drop as much as 20 or more degrees before coming back up again. The oven is usable as is, so I will not have to buy a new one which would have Scot's me $2,500-$3,000. The service charge was $89. read more

Recharged the Sub Zero refrigerator. Freon replacement is very expensive (over $800). The technician did offer to do additional work which I declined as it wasn't necessary. This is the second time I've had the same service performed so I knew what I needed done. I don't expect to need their services for another 10 years. We've used Carter Services for years and they never disappoint, they are communicative, professional, and respectful of my tenants, the units and the appliances. They can be a bit pricey, but the peace of mind that they know what they are doing is priceless. We had them go out looking for at a dryer that wasn't heating up- they called explained the issues and fixed the issue same day. Alex Mejia came to my house to inspect my downward draft, gas range stove top that was previously leaking gas. We got it in 2009, which lasted longer than expected, but we were hoping a simple fix would prevent us from having to buy another stove and a downdraft vent. He was very polite and his inspection was meticulous. The manufacturer no longer produces the needed parts and some of the screws on the burners were rusted, which means he'd risk breaking the glass stove top if he drilled. He could have attempted to do it and then charge me once the damage was done, but he didn't. He was fully transparent and explained every step. Called to have microwave door replaced. Office said they knew model and serial. Had us take photos. I advised the office to check for part availability prior to the visit. This was not done (? Tech refused). Tech arrived. Was about to check the website for parts at Whirlpool. I told him I had checked-"unavailable". He said " then it's impossible, I will not charge for the visit". He left. Basically wasted his and our time. At least they got no money. read more

I called Carter's to repair my Sub Zero refrigerator/freezer because it was leaking water, and there was mold inside (ewww!). They were recommended by Pacific Sales, where I bought my fridge. The woman that answered the phone at Carter's was friendly and helpful, and I was offered a same-day appt! I was very impressed so far! The appt time slot was 1-5pm, and I was told I'd receive a call when the repairman was on his way. By 4:00, I was getting a little worried that he wasn't going to come, but they assured me he would when I called for confirmation. I called again at 4:45 and the same thing happened. At 5:15, Scott Carter (yes, THAT Carter) called to say he was on his way. Scott was knowledgeable and figured out the problem right away. I had requested that he bring new air and water filters, and he did. My complaint with Carter's is their exorbitant pricing. I was told up-front that there would be a $98 service charge. I assumed that would be waived if I decided to proceed with the work, but maybe that was naive of me. Scott spelled out the charges, including $397 for service, but no specifics were given of an hourly rate or how long the repair would take. He also charged me $107 for each of the filters. (I later found out that Pacific Sales charges their customers $55 each for the filters, so I thought that was way too high a mark-up.) He was here for 2 hours and 15 minutes, was paid $495 for his time!! I think that is way out of line! I had to wonder if his prices would've been as high if he hadn't serviced a Sub Zero appliance. One last thing... while I was talking to him, he asked ME to clean out the gunky drain pan and some mold off another small part!! I was caught so off guard that I did it! ‍ read more

Not so good. Carter Services promised to call me the night before with a time window for the tech's arrival. No call. I had to call in the next day to find out. When the tech, James Mora, arrived, he said to my wife, "What's your Wifi password? But you probably don't know that" - seeming to imply my wife is stupid. After inspecting the device, he said, "I have bad news. It'll be $2,000 to fix your microwave oven." Me: "What will you do for $2,000?" James: "Fix your microwave oven." Me: "What parts will you replace?" He told me the parts. I asked for the part numbers. James: "I'll email them to you as soon as I get out in my truck." 4 days later -- no email. Visit concluded, I said "So it's $98 for today?" James: "No. $3,000." Me. "Ha ha. It's $98, right?" James: "No, $3,000." I asked again and finally got a straight answer: "Yes, $98." James may be a great service tech but if he could show a little more respect to women, give straight answers and deliver documents as promised, I'll bet he'd get more business. Sorry to say he lost ours. PS -- today another company fixed our microwave oven for $810 , far less than James' $2000 quote. read more
