I was excited to try this place as I'd been told the other location was great. This was a huge disappointment. My daughter and I had the fettuccine alfredo and it was awful. Very bland. What ever happened to cream, butter and cheese? Whatever this sauce was, it wasn't that! Honestly tasted like a jarred sauce. My daughter also found a hair in hers. I was done with mine at that point. They offered to bring her another, but she declined and had another side salad. They then offered us free cocktails. We got one beer. For four people. This is a great place to eat. The food is outstanding and is far and away the best italian food I've had in L.A. For so long there wasn't a decent place to eat in the Sunland-Tujunga area, and I can't stand cookie cutter italian restaurants. First of all, the drinks are cheap, strong and huge. Really enjoyed my dinner at Caruso's in Tujunga. The service was friendly, the food plentiful and hot. I ended up taking half my dinner home. If there was anything I would suggest, it would be to use less salt in the meal. I stopped salting my food years ago, so It may have just been that I'm not used to it as much any more. Clean, clean restrooms. Tablecloth covered tables, glass atop the cloth. As well as Italian specialties, pizza and sandwiches are served. They have a very nice variety of things. One of us had a half sandwich (cold) and soup combo; the soup was minestrone. Another had a veggie, thin crust pizza; very nice looking and I was told it was very tasty. Whatever my significant other had, it must've been tasty as he inhaled it. I am an eggplant parmesan fan. Caruso's was delicious: two breaded, fried slices of eggplant, ricotta and sauteed mushooms sandwiched between, topped with a very nice, flavorful marinara and good-and-gooey mozzarella. I called to see when my pizza would be delivered (it was already 20 min late) and the guy who answered was so rude and hung up on me after saying "it'll be there when It's ready!" The pizza is The only good thing on the menu however they use more than enough cheese and not enough dough or bread flour. The pizza is weighed down by all the toppings. Overall I was put off by this place because of their customer service, and their excuse for a small salad, which was the size of a Chinese takeout box. The pizza is good but needs a little tang from tomato sauce. Over and over I've asked them to put a thin coating of tomato sauce on the crust, but they don't. This last time I really made a point of begging the waitress to please ask the chef to put a thin coat on and she assured me that she passed this on to the chef, and I'm sure she did. And no, I don't want to pay extra for a side of tomato sauce. I just want a little on my pizza. What they served me was exactly the same as usual -- no effort whatsoever to honor my modest request for a little tomato sauce on pizza crust. If I didn't have a couple teenagers to feed I would have returned It. What is the issue here? They refuse to throw a couple tablespoons of sauce on a pizza? I come here once a week and normally everything is acceptable but decided to pop in on a Sunday night and get some pasta before heading home. First of all, the beer taps either never work or they run out. Next a lot of the servers tend to have a bit of an attitude when u ask about it. Next, i asked for a tossed salad and the waitress, bar tendress brought the salad back normal without remember what kind of salad dressing i asked for. Then i asked for angel hair pasta and they served regular fettuccine. On top of that when i tried to order another beer, she was in the corner pretending to be on the register when actually stuck on her phone. Third times the charm!!! Caruso's finally got all the kinks out! The food is awesome tonight! Compliments to the chef! We had the rib eye steak..cooked to order...perfect! We also had the cheese tortellini with pesto sauce...delicioso! For appetizers, we had the meatballs...amazing...and the calamari...yummy!!! To finish the meal off, we had cheesecake and tiramisu! Supposed to be open til 10 pm in Wednesday we arrived at 8:45 pm bar empty and 1 table in the back occupied - we ordered Chicken Marsala ( thinly sliced and rubbery/salty ) and Pasta Primavera - as we're dining we were treated to the loud conversation of the folks in back - turns out they own the joint - then the lights in the bar go off for the night - front door was left open kinda cold- owner in back blows his nose loudly then gets up from his table saunters past us into the kitchen and asked the servers in the loudest voice "where do I dispose of the toxic trash?" referring to the dirty tissues in his hand. Lobster ravioli is awesome with pink sauce. Have taken pizza home a couple times and loved everything I tried. The regular bartender is rough around the edges but in the most likable way! She really knows her stuff and when they ran out of the jalapeño tequila (the jalapeño margarita is awesome), she made me another drink she just made up and it was surprisingly even better than the margarita. Had the lasagna the last time and was solid tasting and a big portion. I also really like the decor but wish the bar was a bit bigger-we'd come more often just for a drink if it was. A really cozy neighborhood spot with a huge menu selection. I had the chicken vegetable soup and fried zucchini and both were delicious! My daughter and I thought we would give this place a try. I had been there when it was Al Read's, but this had gone through a long makeover....so why not. We stopped during lunch hour and were sat immediately. The place smelled great. They did a great job remodeling an old building. It was fresh and a lot more modern. The only downside would be that they need to open up the windows for some natural light. It was still a bit too dark. They also need to pipe in better music rather than a radio station with commercials. Our waitress Brii, was extremely pleasant and had a great smile. Our order came pretty quickly. The salads were really fresh and the garlic bread that accompanied was one of the best I have had. When we received our main dishes, they were hot and BIG....maybe a little too much food. But they were really good. I don't think the ravioli was fresh or homemade, but my daughter loved them. I ordered the shrimp scampi and it was amazing. Overall a nice place. This isn't the type of place you're going to want to have a romantic Italian meal at but it's a great place to get a pizza or a plate of fettuccine alfredo with sliced chicken. We had the fetuccini with mushroom sauce and although good, it was not great. We also had the chicken parmigiana which my husband liked but i thought was overcooked and tough. Had lunch, after reading one review saying place was to warm, I was surprised that it was very nice and cool, service was ok, but the pizza was really good, soup a little on the salty side but it was homemade, house salad with their homemade dressing was very good, pizza had a nice crunchy bite to it, they just opened give the girls a chance in learning their servicing skills, a little slow but I think in time they will catch on. Went there on a recommendation from friends. The service was great. The staff was helpful and friendly. We decided to take it easy and safe the first time in, so we opted for salad and pizza. The salad was darned good, with just the right amount of dressing, olives, garbanzo beans and tomatoes. It easily fed the three of us. As for the pizza, we went with pepperoni, olives and mushrooms.
