This Carvel is located right on Hillside, with a small parking lot and outside seating. No indoor seating/eating available since there is just enough space for 6-8 customers to stand somewhat comfortable while getting their dessert. This location has what looked like 3 double soft serve machines, two decent size sections for scoop ice cream, ice cream cakes, pre-made ice cream cones to go, pre-made soft serve with fudge or caramel or strawberry to go, packs of ice cream sandwiches as well. They did not have single ice cream sandwiches, which was a bummer for my child who wanted to get one. Two young adults were working, although one was cleaning in the back and the other was helping the three groups of people that were waiting to order, with me being one of the groups. We got a small sundae dasher and single kids scoop with sprinkles. I inquired if the strawberry soft serve was ready since I noticed a blinking light. I was told yes, but I saw the machine popping the soft serve out as the employee tried to get it out....but the person told me it was okay. For the kids scoop, we took one scoop of cake batter. The scoop was small, where most of the cup was empty. I asked if that was the size, as it looked a bit small and was told yes. We got rainbow sprinkles and were surprised to see it barely coated the ice cream. We paid just under $14 for a small Sundae dasher and one kids scoop in a cup with some sprinkles. To my surprise, we were also charged for a hand dip. I don't know what a hand dip is, but I know that's not what we ordered or what we received. The quality and unknown charge were disappointing. Giving 2 stars because the employee who helped us was pleasant and parking was a breeze because of the parking lot. read more

Although there are several closer Carvel locations, this is the location that I frequently visit (less nowadays... Summer is only 6 months away!). The service is always friendly and accurate. Since the recent change in management, it is running even smoother! I think most of us have fond memories of Carvel ice cream. On my last visit I was curious about their new product, butter cream. The nice young lady (I'm sorry I didn't catch her name, as she did a great job) offered me a free sample of the soft serve, and I knew then that I had found the flavor of my small milkshake. Butter cream is a delightful slice of fall fun! (There is a sentence I never thought I'd write, but I stand by it!!) The soft serve at this location is always perfect, no ice crystals, and great texture! Another favorite, which this location always seems to have on tap is the pistachio flavored soft serve. I recommend you pair this flavor with i a fudge brownie Sundae Dasher, you can thank me later. Don't forget a pack of the iconic Flying Saucers which they always have in stock and freshly made with associated flavors and add ons to choice from. Head on over for a treat, even at peak times, the line moves fast and they have a cupple of outdoor tables for when the weather is nice. My son wanted an ice cream cake for his birthday and thankfully Carvel was open (a few weeks ago, amidst COVID). I called ahead for a particular flavor but they wouldn't have that ready in time for me to pick up within the hour (I'm not complaining since I called just an hour before I wanted to swing by and pick up something). The gentleman on the phone said they had several other options which were in stock, so I dropped in a got something else which my son and the guests enjoyed. Although they sell Carvel cakes at local grocery stores such as the nearby Stop & Shop, I suggest coming in to this Carvel store so that you have a much higher chance of getting a fresher cake, and you will certainly have more options as far as flavors and sizes. They can also more easily personalize something for you. There is an adjacent parking lot so you easily can pop right in and out. It was nice to see that they also had a large container of hand sanitizer for their customers to use. The two ladies who helped me were very friendly and efficient. No doubt I'll come back here. PS: I didn't look up the Yelp reviews on this location before I decided to come in so I was pretty surprised that there were so many bad reviews over the past year. First, let me say that I love soft serve ice cream. And, in particular, Carvel. My local branch was renovated a couple of years ago and since then, it's better than it ever was. They have 8 choices of soft serve with some flavors rotating by the season. The wait staff is exceptional. They are courteous and cheerful all the time. After eating out, I skip dessert at the restaurant I was in and head here for my sugar fix and I'm never disappointed. read more

I went here on Friday July 16, 2021 to support the local Girl Scout Troop who was getting a percentage of sales for the day. It was a great day for ice cream since it was a heatwave. I would recommend this Carvel if you are in the neighborhood and want to get some ice cream...they also have ample parking! The service was fast and the person who assisted me was very friendly. I ended up trying the Churro ice cream flavor that was advertised. I got it in the waffle sundae cup with churro topping pieces (not the crunch). The crunch pieces are similar to cinnamon toast crunch. The ice cream was delicious. It was more than I bargained for so I had to take the rest home with me. After leaving the movies on Christmas Day, we were driving and noticed an old school-style Carvel was open so we popped in for some takehome treats. The one employee inside was very friendly in chipper and took her time which each customer. I was happy to see they still had the bourbon caramel ice cream which is amazing. The place is very spaced out with a variety of ice cream pints, sandwiches, and ice cream bars placed around the wall. The ice cream cakes are placed in the center of the store. There are a few tables if you're going to be bringing your family and friends to hang out on a hot summer day or during the winter, it's never too cold for ice cream! They have special sometimes, like Wednesdays buy one pint of low fat ice cream get one free. Deals might change every so often. Master and Visa only, no Amex cards are accepted. I've been visiting this Carvel location for years now. However, when I stopped in to purchase a cake recently, I was extremely disappointed by the lack of options. The freezers that were once full, had only a handful of cakes in them. The customer service I experienced that day was also terrible. My questions were met with one word responses & the girl who wrote the birthday message on my cake looked like she could've cared less about being there. In addition to that, when I cut into the cake in the evening, expecting to find even layers of chocolate and vanilla ice cream, I found that most of the cake was chocolate with only a thin layer of vanilla on top, and there were barely any crunchies. Was happy to see that it's under new management and that they brought more items to the menu. Been there twice and both times it's an "are you seriously working here" type moments. The female cashier with the dark hair and dye job they have working there pretends to not to know how to make your order. Don't go here. Service is trash the person who takes your order and makes the order is one of the rudest individuals I've encountered in the food service business. I'm not speaking off one experience it's been two isolated experiences. 1) SMALL BILLS- My family and I came to order ice cream and upon giving our order we were scolded by a lady claiming that "it's ridiculous that you don't have small bills" she went on to explain the owner is going to yell at her because we had given her a $50.00. This review is about a cake. I ordered an ice cream cake for my husband's birthday cake a few weeks before his birthday, and went to pick it up the day of. I ordered a special cake with a vanilla-vanilla interior, since that's what my husband prefers. We got there at close to 2 PM to pickup our ice cream cake on the day it was due and the cake still wasn't ready. She also took our receipt for the information, so it seems as though they had lost their copy of the receipt and this was why the cake wasn't ready. The thing that bothered me most, though, was that I said this cake was for my husband (aka a man), and there were hearts drawn over the cake. I was just standing there and then another worker asked if i was being helped. I told her the girl started and left. I was standing there hot with my mask for several minutes. 3-4 people ordered and left. She came back and said she was looking for supplies. Looked around and went to back again. She was looking for the spoon to make the carvelanche. Finally it was found, i asked her to use fresh ice cream since mine was now melted. She should have done that without me telling her. I have used this Carvel for years and wanted a "Fudgie The Whale" to celebrate my Mother-In-Law's 96th birthday. And their simplest soft serve -- vanilla, has the perfect amount of flavor. Its very hard to come by franchises that stayed true to the test of time. This place is typically packed during the summer months. And occasionally you can score some credit coupons. All around a solid place that brings back childhood memories.
