My family of 4 and I visited Durango on a road trip.  We located Carver Brewing because it was right across the street from Cream Bean Berry, an ice cream shop we were referred to by locals (totally worth a visit, read my review!).  We ended up eating here 2 out of our 3 days in Durango, trying Steamworks Brewing inbetween.  We found here to be the better option for us.  Let me start out by saying the staff was friendly and kind.  The decor is pleasant with a nice covered outdoor area complete with a mist system to help keep you cool on hot days. As for the food, wow, the chicken stew was outstanding!  On our first visit I was the only one who ordered it as a starter.  I am glad I ordered a bowl because it quickly disappeared between myself and my family.  It was on the thicker side and full of flavor.  On our second visit, two bowls were ordered and were both devoured just as quickly between the 4 of us.  On both of our visits, we ordered the steak nachos and a burger.  On visit one, my wife was impressed with my nachos that she had to order them on the second visit and I was equally impressed with her burger that I did the same.  The burger was juicy, tender and had a great flavor.  While the steak nachos were equally as flavorful.  The nachos were topped with a jalapeno sour cream and it came with some home made salsa.  Very tasty indeed.  My only complaint was we asked for some extra sour cream and were charged $1 without warning.  I always appreciate when a server tells me there is an additional cost for a charge instead of it being a surprise. Over all, if we had a 4th day in Durango, I believe we would be returning again. read more

We've been coming here the past 25 years or so, but I'm getting pickier and grumpier in my old age. At Christmas we phoned to ensure seating was available for my 98 year old, wheel chair bound Mom before making the trek out of the car through the snow. When we arrived 5 minutes later, the manager overrode the hostess and gave our table to someone else citing a no reservation policy. I finally gave it another go this week and it was like watching glue dry. Very slow and inattentive service. Probably 10 plus minutes to get a beer. They served the Oktoberfest menu without the advertised side. Sorry, but Carvers has lost their edge in this super competitive market. read more

Excellent selection of house brewed beers. I got a flight of 4 and they all had a lot of flavor and depth. I couldn't really pick a favorite. The stuffed mushrooms were tasty and the kale salad was fresh and delicious. Our entree of a bone in pork chop was tender and juicy. The mushroom gravy underneath was so good we asked for more. Service was very good and the food came quickly. They probably could've spaced things out a bit more, but we were hungry, so no complaints. read more

The green chili pork soup was delicious. Thank goodness, because it was the only item on the menu that sounded good to me. My husband enjoyed his reuben sandwich, but was not super-impressed. Another person in our group ordered the chicken enchilada and it was so tiny. Our server was friendly and upbeat. Our food came out only a minute or so after our appetizer arrived, so that was a bit annoying. read more

After receiving some bad news we decided to grab breakfast in town hoping to cheer ourselves up and boy was this the ticket. It was 10am so we got the breakfast menu. We were hoping to get a good functional breakfast and instead got one of the best meals we had eaten in months. I got the California Benedict with tomatoes and avocados and it was so good I'm surprised eggs Benedict is ever served any other way. It had all the eggy, silky, creamy goodness of a traditional Benedict while the fresher ingredients lifted it to make it feel lighter and fresher. Even the hash browns were a step up from what I normally get. It had all the things I love about hash browns like the crispy golden delicious bits but the flavors were deeper and more developed than the typical pile of potatoes served as a breakfast side dish. I loved my meal so much that I didn't even steal much from my husband's plate (we normally swap meals halfway through) but I did get a taste of his green chili omelette which was also excellent. He claimed it was the best thing he had eaten and couldn't stop telling Pamela the waitress how amazing the food was. He is a real port snob insisting that a true port is dark, sweet and high alcohol content. Since ports aren't as hip as IPAs and even Ales,he is usually disappointed by the ports at breweries but fell in love with the limited release one he tried here. He loved it so much that we spent a small fortune to get some to go. Lastly, we split two desserts (not sure if that is normally an option at 10am but the waitress and kitchen made sure we got what we wanted.) The root beer float made within house crafted root beer was excellent and exactly what you want from float. The other was something I had never tried an Orangsicle (?) thingy (sorry I can't remember the details since husband picked it out). It was very sweet but we couldn't stop eating until we had scraped every molecule off the glass and we talked about it all the way home. The service was excellent. We were seated instantly and despite every table being full we never felt like we were waiting. Our waitress checked on us often without feeling like we were hassled and quickly got the answers for all my husband's beer snob questions. Will definitely return and bring our guests to show off what great restaurants Durango has to offer. Thank you to brightening up an otherwise crappy day! read more

We love to try local restaurants when we travel and this one did not disappoint! We stopped through Durango on our way to Park City, Utah and searched for a breakfast restaurant that served some unique and ordinary dishes. I ordered Heuvos Rancheros with local chorizo and it was delicious. Next time, I will ask for an extra side of green chilies so that I get spice in every bite. We also had the malted waffle. It was very good, but wish the syrup was served warm. My daughter had Sweet Potato Hash and the sweet potatoes were not cooked all the through, so it was our least favorite dish. My husband ordered Mexican Scramble and he loved it! The hashbrowns are a must no matter what you order! Oh, and , we loved the décor! read more

In town for business and decided to give Carvers a go after ten plus years. Of course we remember the burgers and the bread bowl. Tried the bread bowl with chicken soup, Caesar salad, and three of the variety of burgers they had on the menu. The burgers were juicy and I ordered salad instead of fries with my Rodeo burger. Bread bowl was good as I remember and of course who doesn't love bread! Even got butter to finish off the bread that the soup was served in. Overall a great experience and the wait service was pretty good even as it picked up with the lunch crowd. Definitely need to try the breakfast next time we are town based on the reviews. read more

Friendly service here and I had a delicious imperial stout, not quite as good as the special anniversary one at Ska at the moment but for one town to have two in this category at all is a marvel. The info about the beers is really useful. Bf enjoyed both his beers although I don't think he was totally blown away. We were almost put off coming by the relatively early closing hour but they were happy to serve customers past it so I think it's just to give them flexibility if it's really quiet - is worth taking a chance and you always have Steamworks nearby to move on to. read more

This was our first trip to Durango. We were excited about trying some of the local breweries. Carver B C did not disappoint. Unique menu even uses some local ingredients. The Mahi Mahi stuffed Pablano Pepper & the Cajun Chicken Mac and Cheese were delish. Beer selection was great. We really enjoyed the Raspberry Wheat & the Old Oak Amber Ale. Our waiter Slade was amazing. The seating was a bit tight & the room a bit loud (high ceilings) but could still converse. We will definitely be returning. read more

We have been coming here since i was a baby, i always remember it being delicious and the bread bowls were my FAVORITE. Well its May 2023 and they no longer have bread bowls all of a sudden (they had them in winter of 2022) and it broke my heart because that is the only thing i like to eat here. The past 3 years weve come the food has been aiming for trendy and hip than delicious and home cooked. Its very dissapointing and my parents and i have decided we wont come back here. Last year the mushroom mac and cheese was rank, the mushrooms were tough and inedible. This year my father got the pork green chili sausage and it was terrible! The flavour was indescribeable (not in a good way) and the texture was of raw meat with a chewy casing, it was disgusting. The beer cheese soup was cold and not in a bread bowl, which i had already been upset about, and overall we were not impressed. Unfortunately this family tradition of 24+ years of coming to Carvers is over. I hope they realize that they need to focus on their loyal costumers who enjoyed the old home cooking style instead of trying to be trendy and popular with their weird inedible dishes. read more

Once one of my favorite places to eat in Durango, now not so much. A smaller menu and not very tasty.

Enjoyed a delicious salmon with quinoa and roasted vegetables with curry. The curry was light, aromatic, and delish. Almost not enough curry for the dish. My fiancé ordered beef tips with gravy, mashed potatoes and green beans. I thought the dish could've used a little more green beans, but it was quite yummy. We both enjoyed our beers although I did not think the IPA was hoppy enough. Still a good beer. Our server did very well. He was attentive and friendly. What more can you ask for? read more

During our trip to Durango, we actually enjoyed Carvers a little more than the "other" big name brewery in town. My wife and I went with a burger, which was very good. And they do these sidewinder potatoes that are awesome! They are basically thick, curly fries, perfectly crispy! Can't pass on them. The beer was also very good. We did the raspberry wheat and the home made root beer. Loved them both. read more

Driving south from Montrose, we decided to have an early lunch in Durango at Carver Brewing. We were disappointed that at 11:10 AM, they were only serving breakfast. Our breakfasts were very good however. My wife had one of the egg Benedicts and I had the special, steak and eggs. Service was excellent. read more

Always a go-to every trip to Durango. Friendly staff and good beer. Facility is nice and clean too.

Between four of us, we had a wide variety of food and most of the beers, including a flight. All of the beers were good with something for everyone, even some fruity type beers. All of the food was very good, everyone was happy. If I lived here, this would probably be on the top of my brewery list. Also plenty of room inside and outside with a great back patio when the weather is good this would always be my choice. read more
